Thank you so much for posting this. I was only 12 when this happened and I wouldn't discover SD until I was 15, when they aired the documentary "Another State of Mind" on Night Flight. Punk Rock ruined my life, in the best way possible.
I was in the front row taking pictures of this concert. I still have them today sitting in a shoe box in my closet along with many other pictures of other punk rock concerts that I took around this time period. From time to time a pull them out and look at them. It's incredible really. I'm 54 now, I was 18 when I was at this show! If I remember correctly, this show was Social Distortion and Black Flag.
You should post those pics somewhere, it's always great seeing unseen photos/videos especially from back in the SoCal and New York scenes when punk was coming up...
Sadly punk was already on the junky collapse! Darby dead, Gun Club losing it. Crime burned out, Valor having stole Christian Death from rozz, everything just limping along, the straight edged bands were putting out some ok shit, but with non of to cool anti fashion theatrics!
That’s awesome, I’m 46yrs old grew up in the South Bay. I was too young for those legendary Olympic Auditorium shows, but have heard a lot of stories. Those shows were wild, wish I could’ve been there .
spirit, the times, Pendleton shirts, mini skirts, and Henry Rollings on Unsolved Mysterias, saw grandpa Camel Joe in Anacrime last Christmas, still good show
Mike seemed pretty comfortable with letting that dude give him a little vocal break, while John seemed to be all "Yeah that's enough man" *kick* *kick* haha.
That dude, I believe was Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies. And I think this was around the time Mike joined the program. Regardless, this is pure punk gold!
@@theluckydevils3700I don’t think Ness got clean until ‘86, or at the very earliest ‘85 (and that would have had to have been no earlier than towards the end of ‘85 according to everything I was told). At this time, in late ‘84 he was deep into the H.
Shit, I was hoping someone could have solved this mystery by now (it’s been over a year). I’m guessing that is Bob Stubbs AKA “Bob Bitchen” on the kit. The time would have been right.
@@rangga9256 Yeah I finally got confirmation on this last summer. He was still really new at this time. He replaced Bob Stubbs, who wasn’t with them for very long. I think Bob only played a handful of gigs with SD. It was a pretty rough time for them.
hi. long time ago, my dates may be wrong, i thoughtthey played first then buthole surfers then pil [which i did not film] I think there was that back drop for pil ... at olympic.
I never saw PiL at the Olympic so I guess I couldn’t say for sure. I did go to a lot of shows at the Olympic though and never once remember seeing a curtain. I can’t imagine where they even hung it from. Plus the Olympic always seemed to have security lined up on the stage. I don’t see any of them either.
Well it’s definitely a cool video. It’s been so long ago I can’t hardly remember most things. I saw PiL only once at UCI in about 85’. I guess maybe they had the rockstar approach and had their equipment setup and made everyone play in front. That’s kind of lame. I can’t remember anyone else ever doing that.
I was there it was too the olympic and yes they had a curtain in 1984 they played with buttons surfers social distortion and pil playing lots of see pistols songs that night and a full blown riot with the lapd that night ! It was the first riot I had ever been in and or ever seen ! I was 15 years old drunk high and loving it.this was my first Olympic show ever and first huge punk show Thank you Gary Tovar and goldenvojce productions it cost $ 5.50 then bexg yesr prices went up to 6.50 with the exploited agnostic front youth brigade dr know show and may 85 also had subhuman scream then next weekend gbh show and n um subs next weekend the English dogs show great Olympic shows also in 84 was new tsol with Joe wood and the circle jerks Mia detox wasted youth others Olympic auditorium era was the shit for punk.rock in la

Amazing then, and now. You could always tell there was something on another level to Social D
Those were the days. Thanks for taking me back to the music of my life.

Wow! Before Ness starting playing les Paul’s. Great video 🙌🔥

So Happy Now that Mike Cleaned up the dope🙏🙏🧠 Thank You Mike Ness for all the Guidance.
My first punk rock gig was SD in a small place in Vegas "Pinollas" and Mommy Little Monster was a relatively new record. Fucking great Band. My fave!
Ah yes before the fame, killer So Cal Band ; I drank Old English beers with em the year before this in Philadelphia , “A toast on your grave 🎶”
Thanks for posting! These are SD's best songs!

they had great gear.. 1964 sg junior is the best
I'd love to hear them play "On My Nerves" today. I don't think they do that anymore, although I think they played "Playpen" when I saw them last year.
Film much? Cool reflection of times gone but not forgotten.

El sonido era genial ,ahora estan mas calmados , me gustaba el de antaño
