  • This is a 3x speed build of my 65x50 laser engraver. I didn't edit out any of the mistakes I made. I bought this engraver as an impulse buy. I did zero research ahead of time on it.
    I used their instructions and started with their software.
    You can buy your own here:

    I just watched this after I assembled mine. Mistake #6 was annoying for me. The whole process was being that the parts are so close in sizes and the so called tutorial video they give doesn't say any of these differences. Are you sure mistake #3 was a mistake? I did it according to the tutorial video and my sides are identical, thus don't mirror each other. Even though they don't however, they are still centered so I left as is. Mistake #7 wasn't in either the manual or video of theirs. Amazes me that people don't seem to double check their own product material. Glad to see you also had a lot of extra parts! Haha, that was the main reason I'm looking up other people's builds! I got mine from Universal Laser. Won't be able to test it until tomorrow. Afraid I might blow up my house at this point... ;)
    Thanks for the video!

      I'm glad you found it useful. I'll re-watch the video and double check mistake #3. I need to do a follow up video as I had to modify mine just a bit to get rid of a bug. The bug I had was that the carriage for the laser wobbled. When the laser moved left, it would tilt one way. When it moved right, it would tilt the other. I had all the eccentric bolts as tight as they would go. I ended up having to redrill some of the wheel holes on the plate to make it tighter on the rail.

      I took another look at Mistake #3. Looking at the parts, I can see where identical parts would still work. My slight OCD would get annoyed if I didn't mirror them, though. I also believe the instructions that came with mine showed them as being mirrored. It won't hurt either way.

      Haha, I have the same OCD and when I got to that step (though I watched their tutorial video), I hesitated a few times because mirrored seemed more natural. I don't even think I saw any other instructions with mine though but once I found the video from their email I just went with it. I still haven't even tried it because I lack a laptop (only desktop) and need to find a place that won't set off my smoke detectors. :(

    Thanks ofr the video. The wires look like a bit of a tangle. What can we do to tidy them up a bit?

      I have a second video with what I did for some of them. The video name says 7 month update.

    Hey David, many thanks for taking the time to post this. The documentation available is pretty poor and watching your approach has helped a lot.
    Did you have any issues flashing GRBL? I'd love to use it as It's what runs my CNC Router and CoreXY Pen Plotter and I'm quites familier with it.
    Thanks again

      Sorry for the late reply. I don't always get notifications from youtube for some reason. I did not have any issues with flashing grbl onto the board. I just downloaded the imaged and flashed as normal.

    i need those instructions because i can't tell what bolts and goes where. I don't even know how you set up the motor.

      The instructions are in a zip file on Banggood's website. I think I linked to it in another comment.

    Hi My mistake was not watching your video all the way through to avoid many of the same mistakes. Does it have limit switches? And am I correct that there are no belt tensioners other than the nut and screw?

    • @DavidWalling
      @DavidWalling  2 роки тому

      correct. There are no belt tensioners other than the nut and screw. It does not have limit switches, but I never home the machine. I typically use my hand to push the laser to where I want 0,0 to be and then tell the machine that that's "home".

    Are you still using this machine?! We just picked one up (already assembled) from someone selling it on FB. I was worried since they only gave us a small booklet and only certain parts were in English. Do we just hook it up to our laptop? To install the software?

    • @DavidWalling
      @DavidWalling  3 роки тому

      Yes I'm still using this machine. It's working quite well. Yes. You should be able to hook it up to the USB on your laptop to run it. I'm a big fan of LightBurn. It has the ability to create the design and to send it to the machine. I also run mine on a small raspberry pi running cnc.js, but that'd be a more advanced setup.

    I got this same machine, the servos i received are 6 pin but the wiring to the controller is only 4 wire. They do not look like the servos in your video. Any thought on how i should proceed?

      Nevermind i just realized that one end of the cord was 6 pin connector.

    do yo know to fix problem on print scale im sorry for my bad english

    • @DavidWalling
      @DavidWalling  4 роки тому

      Not with the default firmware. With grbl, there's an x and y scale setting that you adjust. I burned a 100mm square and measured the sides. Then I adjusted those values until it burned the right size. There's math you could use, but I was lazy and did trial and error.

    I live in a very rural area. Internet is horrible will this run without the internet.

    • @DavidWalling
      @DavidWalling  3 роки тому

      Yes. Absolutely. You do require the internet to download the software and the drivers (same zip file), but once installed the software will control the laser locally through a USB port.

      @@zotzurbambu8992 Looks like Banggood doesn't sell this engraver anymore. If I remember, it came with Benbox. You can try doing a google search for that. Or you can go through the trouble of flashing grbl onto the controller and using something like lightburn or cnc.js to drive it.

      Got mine from Universal Engraver with the same issues. I have no clue what I'm doing. No instructions. No DVD. Nothing labeled.
