Thank you, Ott! I can't count how many fish I've lost from the head shake/leverage of split rings and treble hooks. For me, my nemesis has been the rat-l-trap type baits. They'll be the first batch of baits I apply this treatment to!
I tried this EXACT technique yesterday! My local Bass Pro had a friendly officer escort me out before I could get one of those biggins to bite though. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for taking the time to teach us. From one skinny water jet boater to another you should come to Georgia some time and catch some Shoal Bass. They fight the same if not more than a Small Mouth. Many thanks and God bless you and your family!
This is not new this coming from California fisherman late 90s when they use swimbait not to lose fish when fish fights to get free they using this tip
I've seen this before but searched for it just now because I had trouble today with my line getting caught in the split ring. I am using this on a small bait that is said to be sensitive to the weight of the split rings. The #1's are hard to work with, and the braid is much less expensive and more readily available.
Great video and tip. Excited to give this a try. Have some mid size jointed swim baits that I have had trouble keeping fish pinned because the eye for the split ring does not swivel. Had about a dozen smallmouth shake loose just yesterday, 4 of them were 16 to 18 inch range. Frustrating to keep losing quality fish again and again. What size braid do you recommend? Thanks for sharing!
If I have to. I try to have multiple of the baits rigged and can get through the day or at least until our breaks. I’ve not seen them get weak like your main line.
Ott, another great tip. I'm already getting better at tying the fg knot after seeing your last video. I'm assuming you don't change your hook size as I saw you using the same hooks. Did you say what pound size braided line you use? I will rewatch video to see if I missed it. 🙏🎣🐟🦃🦌
Great tip! I have a question though. Would it be even more advantageous to remove the split ring at the line tie at the nose of the bait and use a loop knot in addition to your tip?
Hey that's a good tip have you tried letting the back one out 3-4" to catch those that just swat at it ? I think some of them just can't see very well the way they miss it sometimes ....
What is the weight comparison between the split ring and line? Would be interested in how this would impact weight sensitive baits like topwater, jerkbaits, etc.
As I Live and Breathe Ott, Way to much Time Effort. I get it, " In Theroy", but the Pro's have caught all sorts of Species , with Regular hook/ Split Rings. Yes technically, the additional rotation of the Treble could make a bit of difference, but Statistics Percentage , are not going to Justify. Finally, most Bass guys ,haul hooked bass in with ,blistering speed Authority ; laying on deck, reading what brand shoes you are wearing, before bass knows what just happened.
Otts giving out all those sneaky secrets. Y’all better take notes 📝
Yeah bro this has been well kept guarded for a minute
Damn. Probably the best crankbait tip I've seen in a long time.
Just how many tricks you guys know lol 😂, it’s not enough time in the day to tell us !!!! Thanks for the tip....
Thank you, Ott!

Great tip Ott ... Never thought of that... The Frye Guy
Best technique I’ve seen for this, noted! And your FG knot vid really speeds up the way I tie now, thank you sir!
Absolutely correct on both counts.
I had no idea that would be so simple🤷🏻♂️😜👍👏 now I have something to do this winter😂😜
Wow dude! I have been tournament fishing for 20 years and I've never seen that . Fantastic tip

Ive been on the Flint before. Want to get down there again. Or some of the other ones too.
Thanks Ott i’ve never seen that before i appreciate your tips and videos God bless 🙏

Correct! And salt water too
Thanks Ott great job easy to see how it"s done.
Great idea I’m bout to give it a try , definitely see it helping keep them bass on!
What size braid do you use thanks it's a great tip
Thanks Ott. Great tip for showing them something different. Bet it would work great on those ledge fish.
Wow, great tip, Thanks Ott!
Awesome tip buddy! I really enjoy your videos!
Love watching your videos, definitely someone I’d love to fish with! Keep it up 🤘🏼
Wow 😮 that's crazy 😂 thanks I'm going to try this
I use this for swimbaits, but I like your know better! I burn the ends with a lighter though. Great way to use up discarded braid!
Pros - Great at reducing leverage!
Cons - Try getting it un-hung now. 🤣
Sweet tip. Thanks, Ott!
That's a fantastic tip. Nice...
This is an epic tip. Thanks for sharing.
Hello, Thanks great video, it's fairly easy with more practice this old gizzer will "get er done" quicker.
Very well done video
Thank you.
Great tip Ott, thank you
Always heard about this im definitely going to do this with my glides
Used the dragon claws to swap those split rings!! Hes not human lol
😂
Tried it, works great! How often do you need to replace them though? I mean they gotta wear out eventually.
great Ott!!!
Great tip. Thanks
That is slick thanks man

Good! Glad it worked.
Great idea.

30lb is my go to
Cool tip. Do you re-tie these knots throughout the day? How often do you check them for any abrasion?
If I have to. I try to have multiple of the baits rigged and can get through the day or at least until our breaks. I’ve not seen them get weak like your main line.
I may have missed it but what pound test braid do you use? Great tip that I will be using on Cherokee soon. Thanks!
I use 10lb on spinning
Any rule of thumb for line poundage?

30lb. Sounds like I didn’t say
Wow. How many tournaments have you used this in? Awesome tip!
Great tip! I have a question though. Would it be even more advantageous to remove the split ring at the line tie at the nose of the bait and use a loop knot in addition to your tip?
I use a snap there sometimes without a split ring. I use a loop on top waters though.
Hey that's a good tip have you tried letting the back one out 3-4" to catch those that just swat at it ? I think some of them just can't see very well the way they miss it sometimes ....
I’ve not. That would cause it to hang on cover more I think and could catch the front hook.
What is the weight comparison between the split ring and line? Would be interested in how this would impact weight sensitive baits like topwater, jerkbaits, etc.
It’s lighter for sure. Can’t be much though. It would affect a suspending jerk bait more than anything.
Genius!
What pound test do you prefer for the braid?
30
One question Otter... what size braid do you use? Or does that matter?
I use 30 for this. I was using 50 in chart to show for this.
Can't the knot end with the tie loosen and slide thru the loop?
What pound test was the braid?
30 is good or 50. Any where in that range
I may have missed it, but what size braid do you use?
30lb
Would it work well on a trap?
Very well!
Would you use on a jerk bait. Thank you
Wonder how that would work on a jigging rap ?
I like to finish with a double square knot.
Ott
Please zoom in on the braided line after it’s connected to the triple hook
You can’t see the final result
Ott
Make sure your shirt is a good contrast against the lure colors
Just sayin
if it aint broken?
There’s some truth to that too
Go guys...please 👇💞💞

When do you use this and when do you use split rings. Based on the video there arnt any negatives aside from time.
