Sisi-City: The New Capital that could Bankrupt Egypt

  • Under construction since 2016, "Sisi-city" as it's often dubbed is the ambitious plan of the man who has ruled the country since 2013, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The man wants to leave his mark on the country. To do so, he is multiplying pharaonic constructions. Widening the Suez Canal, building infrastructure or, more recently, constructing the world's largest artificial river ... There are plenty of major projects.
But the construction of this new city 45 km from Cairo remains the most titanic project currently underway in Egypt, and indeed on the entire African continent. A veritable playground, seven times larger than Paris itself. All this for a colossal budget, estimated at between 52 and 60 billion dollars. A place built for records and excess, which could well lead Egypt to ruin... And that's what we're going to see today, in this new episode of Looking 4.

[Isa 19:18-25 KJV] 18 In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction. 19 In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD. 20 And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them. 21 And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform [it]. 22 And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal [it]: and they shall return [even] to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them. 23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. 24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, [even] a blessing in the midst of the land: 25 Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed [be] Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.

Greetings from the UK! This looks awesome and very impressive. I hope this works out.
The budget is not too bad....50- 60 Billion dollars? Here in Britain, that is half the cost of a sub-standard high speed rail which doesn't really go anywhere (check out how absurd HS2 is). Also impressive is the scale of the project and how quick it has taken to build. Here in Britain, it has taken over 5 years to build ONE hotel in an arch facing Buckingham Palace. Words cannot do justice to the colossal failure UK construction is but words cannot do justice to the amazing feat that Cairo is performing now.

    • @czarofallthecanadas8145
      @czarofallthecanadas8145 4 місяці тому +18

This is true, although the 60 billion figure is a bit more complicated than that. Part of the reason Egypt can build this so cheaply is because labour is so cheap, but labour is so cheap because the country is poor. Egypt will have more trouble affording this because Egypt's GDP is about a tenth of the UK's. (I'm using nominal GDP instead of PPP because the debts are denominated in foreign currency. This is different from the UK in that the UK is financing HS2 with debt in its own currency. Because of that if worst comes to worst it can just devalue the debt by printing money).
Also, this comes at a time when Egypt is struggling with a currency crisis. Basically Egypt is the largest importer of wheat in the world. They need foreign currency in order to pay for all that wheat so their people don't starve. All this extra debt is an extra drain on their foreign currency reserves, which is not good. Add to that the fact that wheat prices are at historic highs due to disruptions to Ukrainian and Russian wheat exports and that Egypt's foreign-currency debts before this were already quite high before this, and you see why people are worried about Egypt's situation.
And, on top of that, because of a Dam in Ethiopia that's being filled, there's a chance Egypt might lose its water, not be able to grow any food and have to import even more, but that's a whole other issue.
      Edit: Greetings from Canada

      From official sources:
[The financing of all projects in the Administrative Capital is completely outside the general budget of the state, and the budget of the new administrative capital is independent and completely separate from the general budget of the state. This clear statement came from the Administrative Capital Company, which confirms that there are no burdens on citizens as a result of the large projects that are being launched in the Administrative Capital. This dispels the rumors circulating about the sources of funding for various projects.
On January 24, 2021, the Ministry of Finance said in an official and clear statement that financing the construction of Administrative Capital projects, as well as new cities, is done outside the state’s general budget, independently and separately.
The Ministry of Finance explained that the state’s success in creating an economic value for the land on which these projects are located, and transforming it into a source of financing, so that this economic value resulting from the sale of land to investors is used to finance construction operations and pay contractors and workers’ dues.]
So, don't worry on Egypt, worry on your canada and their puppet regime, the people who built the greatest civ with magnificent builds, for sure they know how to rule their country, no one can steal our land or our water, we've an army for that, an army you don't have! so yeah worry on yourself!

There's nothing called "Sisi-city" it's known in Egypt by Administrative Capital or the New Capital, but I see you tried hard to draw a bad image on this thriving and very important project to our country just before the elections! yeah? coincidence for sure! right?!
You also spilled many false info, the whole script acting like those false media of the muslim brotherhood party! you can't even know the difference between the iconic tower and oblisco capitale! LOL
AND It's FASCINATING how you "forgot" to mention the most important thing that has been declared MANY TIMES by the prime minister and the president himself which is "not a single Egyptian pound from the state budget is spent on this major project. It is all came from selling lands for investors" but of course if you mentioned that then the rest of your script will be unreasonable!
      From official sources:
[The financing of all projects in the Administrative Capital is completely outside the general budget of the state, and the budget of the new administrative capital is independent and completely separate from the general budget of the state. Abd-alFatah alSisi is really changing the face of Egypt to way way better, by eliminating slums dwellings and those chaotic districts and offered a suitable homes for poor people, tons of infrastructure projects that is needed for the heavy industries domiciliation, reducing unemployment through these projects, and eliminating diseases spread in society through for years through free health initiatives and the comprehensive health insurance project that we started, in addition to establishing many technological universities, developing the education structure, huge agriculture projects, building about 14 new generation four cities, many green energy projects, high-speed train lines and developing transportation, eliminating terrorism and strengthen the army so we can live in peace, and also allowing so much freedom of speech unlike president Mubarak era, and much more.
So yeah he is the greatest leader we had since Muhammad Ali, but of course there's people who against him bcoz of the inflation, they don't understand the basics of the global economy, but for me the only critique is that he allowed more than 9 millions of immigrants to enter Egypt which affected many aspects of our life like society and economy.
Anyway, that's why we choose him for the third presidential term, deal with it.

@@portcybertryx222 I think people think of this the wrong way, Because even if many "upper class" citizens relocate from the heavily congested Cairo to the new capital, While the less wealthy citizens stayed there, This would actually make a lot of space and room for people still in Cairo themselves to grow and expand their businesses.
Such difference would require massive numbers of people to relocate. But if the city were to reach it's target capacity of 6M people, Which I believe would take at least 1.5 - 2.5 decades, Then you'd have a far less polluted Cairo, With far more efficient infrastructure and transport due to less congestion, With more housing units offered for rent & sale making it more affordable, Many more jobs opportunities for people who otherwise wouldn't have gotten them with higher salaries due to thinning work force on the (local) job market, Small businesses and micro enterprises that decide to relocate will allow the ones that stay a bigger portion of the market share. I could go on and on.
All meanwhile, Wealthier people could use their capital to participate in shaping the emerging economy of the new city.
Now, People need to stop treating this as if it's a government initiative aiming to improve the living standards of less privileged Egyptians, Countless such projects were already made over the last 10 years and are being made. And of course there's hope that such improvement will ultimately be a result of overall economic growth. But it has been made clear that the NAC is a capitalist for-profit investment project, With the parties funding it expecting financial gain for their investments. It's not intending to exclude "the poor" because this is irrelevant.
A wealthy person won't be forced to buy an apartment and leave Cairo, And a less fortunate person won't be forced to stay in Cairo as we leave it to crumple into a massive chaotic ghetto. NAC isn't going to draw attention away from Egypt's largest city and the center of it's economy. And why was the plan for a new capital proposed decades ago, Before anyone could even fathom the possibility of a popular revolution, If the only goal is to protect the government? Like really, Some of those conspiracy theories are ridiculous.

There's many level of residential compounds in the new capital, and some of my relatives "mid-class" has bought apartments there already, some sold it with a higher price and others still has it, moreover there's about 14 new cities that are currently being built outside the boundaries of overcrowded cities in order to disrupt population congestion, about 9 of them finished already, and it offers 3 levels of housing from hi-class to economic class with reasonable prices.

Those will either need to put the money on the table for the construction, or alternativelly they will need to pay for renting those properties over the rental term. Nothing in this world is for free. As the new capital is primarily catering to the official administration of the state of Egypt the state of Egypt will at the end pay for all of this. In what form or way the state will pay does in the end not matter.

Even if it is a vanity project, it is hyperbole to tag it as "the end of Egypt". My approach to planned cities is that if they have to be built, it would be better to build then in stages. The experience from previous stages cures so many unforeseen problems that afflict cities built in one go. Depending on the outcome of the current war in the middle east, the Suez Canal could be losing a good quarter of its business. It is real possibility that maritime commerce may find it very attractive to bypass the Suez in favor of the Northeast Passage through the Russian Arctic. What, then, would become of the shiny cities being built on either side of the Red Sea, Sisi-City, NEOM, etc.?

This clear statement came from the Administrative Capital Company, which confirms that there are no burdens on citizens as a result of the large projects that are being launched in the Administrative Capital.
