Congratulations Kim!!! It’s been an absolute pleasure to be your flight instructor so far, and can’t wait to see where this adventure takes you. Now let’s go get your PPL!!
Watching the series from Australia and loving it. You are THE right instructor for Kim, well done Matt.
Matt, well done mate! Nice work! You are an immensely talented instructor imo. When you get ready to retire, remember how good an instructor you were. Maybe go back and do some more instructing then. In the meantime, I hope you have an amazing career. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
You are a kick ass instructor , 🫡
@@sebastianandnoel2012 "I'm just here to chew gum and kick some ass.... and guess what, I just ran out of gum..."
Awesome to see you comment on here, Matt! I was just lamenting that I never got to live out my dream of becoming a pilot, a dream I chased for decades before being forced by life circumstances to give it up.
But I have thoroughly enjoyed several flight channels on UA-cam in recent years, and live vicariously through them...including THIS one! And I'm just finishing watching the series of videos about Kim's training, and I'm glad to see all of it--good, bad, hard, easy, and so on...to show every side of what training is like. Because it ain't all sunshine and rainbows...nor SHOULD it be.
Matt, you're an excellent instructor, and just what Kim needed to both find her center and her confidence, so she could see that she was ready to solo and just needed to push past the fear and anxiety.
Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. It's not truth. It's your brain rebelling against logic, reason and common sense. Sometimes, fear is a warning, to make you more aware of your surroundings...but it's detrimental when it makes you freeze up and get stuck in inaction. That's when you have to push through and past it, to show your brain it was all just smoke and mirrors.
Did any recognize what a FANTASTIC instructor Matt is ? I flew 35 years for one of the major airlines and also worked as an instructor in the training department. Matt is going to have a great career ahead of him.
Yup. Watching him handle his first emergency was super impressive too.
I totally agree.
Matt is destined to become chief pilot at some airline!
Congratulations Kim!
My eyes are suffering from rainstorm here...
Yes, I had a great instructor in 2008 named Tim P. I would say he’s definitely moved into the airlines by now. He had 400 and something hours back then. I was his first student to get my private pilot.
I'm an Instructor as well, and I'm taking notes from this young man. He certainly knows how to read his student. Great job to both of them!
Matt is Amazing!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This video series is incredible! Showing the mental struggles and mental breakthroughs is something no one else has really showed. Congrats Kim!
As a student I love that aspect as well. I haven’t solo’s yet and every flight is a mixture of, “I have no idea what I’m doing.” And my instructor telling me I’m doing very well. Stakes and nerves run high!
Not really, she scared to fly. I wouldn't fly with her
Airline pilot here in tears. You showed all the feelings I felt, but wasn’t allowed to show in my Air Force days and subsequently during my civilian pilot training.
Nothing feels better than overcoming fear and realizing you're stronger than you think. Congratulations!
My first solo was 50 years ago, and it still feels great to see someone do their first solo. :)
I am not a pilot but I cried when you landed I was so happy for you Kim. I am really into helicopter flight simulation and I love it.
Me too Haden Me too!
Hey! me too but I like flight simulation on airplanes. It would be great to chat and fly on IVAO someday :)
I did cry during climbout on my first solo. All the studying in ground school, flying lessons...the enormity of what I had accomplished hit me all at once. I was *so* pumped. But I had to wipe my eyes put the emotions away. And I did...until I picked up my instructor at the tower, taxied back to the flight club and tied my Cherokee Warrior down. Then I quietly let loose. 😃
shit, i did too! Great job!
Kim, EVERY pilot has been there. Self doubt, apprehension, fear. But we have ALL overcome these emotions to achieve something special, as you have done. John Wayne once defined courage as being scared to death, but saddling up anyway. I have seen no finer example. Absolutely outstanding!!! Congratulations!!!
So, so proud of you, Kim. You'll never forget the first solo. And I hope you never forget Matt, because he's an amazing instructor and you were lucky to get him! I hope you got the sensation on your third pattern that that was YOUR airplane. The first two, I'm sure you felt like you were trying to check all of your boxes - but that third pattern, that's when you start to feel like you're in command, and that PIC is no longer just a cute acronym. The more seat time you get, the more solid that feeling will get. It will change you forever for the positive. Well done!!!
Oh well, could keep it together until 11:29. That smile said it all. Congratulations Kim!
Congrats, Kim!
You demonstrated your innate resilience, especially your ability to overcome your self doubt and fears.
Really proud of you!
The emotion on your first solo is an internal battle that only those that have challenged the bonds of earth can know. Nice work
So well said, Side Slip!!!!
I remember when I did my first solo, 32 years ago, in a Cessna 152, when I took off, I was screaming like crazy, many emotions and mixed feelings happened at that moment, greetings from Chihuahua
12:00 Everyone is crying in this one.
Congratulations Kim. You made him cry. Well done. You got it.
Congratulations, Kim! What a proud moment and accomplishment. An event you will never forget. You even had Kris getting a little water (tears of joy) in his eyes. Keep up the good work. You will have your PPL before you know it. ✈️
On. A lighter. Note Kris looked more like a proud papa. 👏 like to see the look on his face when his son solos. It may be the same look. 😆
Nice job Kim!! And you were cooler than a popsicle on a July summer evenin!!!!
You guys are amazing. As a viewer, this was more emotional than I expected. So proud of you Kim. And Kristoffer- I felt it man.
Lovin them callouts! Your hands, feet and brain were WORKING 1000% as one unit, AND your instructor and viewers (and soon your passengers) knew exactly what you were thinking, doing and fixing!!! Congrats Kim - blue sky’s.
Scott. KLZU
Awesome Kim! We've never met, and yet I was choking back the tears right with you guys. Took me back to that defining moment of my first solo. I remember getting about 50' off the ground and thinking, "Well, I've got to land it now, no turning back!" Thanks for sharing this experience with the rest of us, you are doing great!
Congratulations, Kim!!
Kim, I remember my first solo like it was yesterday even though it was 50 years ago (1970). I landed, my instructor got out of the Cessna 152 unexpectedly and said “that’s it. Don’t forget what you know.” And, he was off. I took off and sang to myself “He flew the air with the greatest of ease. That daring young man of the flying trapeze.” I had never sang that song before then and never after that wonderful afternoon but, I was a pilot from that day on. Enjoy Kim!
Congratulations Matt. You have brought Kim this far toward her pilot license. You're a great instructor.
Kim congrats on your solo. The landings were so good.
You had a hard time believing in yourself but you're getting past that. I think you will kill those demons and be a great pilot.
You got this.
Chris you're the man. I can tell how proud you are of you women as you should be.
Enjoy each other. Enjoy flying together.
I soloed on Oct. 4th, 1970 in the late afternoon on my 16th birthday. I remember it like it was yesterday. Congratulations Kim, you done good girl. Love this series. Don't tell Chris, but I think this is better than his regular vlogs. LOL This will forever be in your memories. Can't wait to watch you get your PPL rating.
Now, how does that feel? Fantastic eh ! Proud !!!! Sooo jealous ! A pilot is born/ made ! Perfecto !
Awesome Job, Kim! I know none of us are as vested in this as Kris, but the comments reflect just how mush we ALL are cheering you on and pulling for you! Such amazing work on your part, Kim.
Congratulations Kim. Chris, you did a great job supporting her. Kim on to the cross country. Fly well.
First landing, not a dry eye in the house! Great job Kim.
Well done, Kim! A day you will never forget!
Congratulations Kim! Very well done. The whole solo patterns looked solid as a rock. You really got this. And also hats off to Matt for being such an amazing instructor and person.
Congratulations from France Kim ! "souvenir souvenir" for me too, it was in 2006, gift from my wife Anne 🥰 In front of you now of course PPL but also I imagine: mep licence !😅
Way to go Kim. So proud of you and for you. So glad to finally see this. Congratulations.
Well done Kim I got very emotional watching you achieve your goal to your first solo and at the end I was a bit tearful so glad to see you get there
Congratulations Kim,,, we were All pulling for you, 🎉🎉
And at the time of watching this, over 60,000 viewers were holding their breath on that first landing. Great job Kim, congrats and welcome to the club ! - That said, what an amazing job Matt is doing. CFI's don't get enough credit. They lay the foundation for every pilot, leaving behind a piece of themselves that the new pilot never forgets. A big shout out to Sporty's for what looks like a great program as well. Thanks for sharing this special moment with you. Safe skies always Kim !
Congrats Kim!
Really enjoyed watching your journey. Learning to fly is 50% skill and 50% emotions. You've handled both so well.
Well done Kim! Such an awesome accomplishment to get that 1st solo under your wings. You have done a tremendous job and have a lot to be proud of!
This young guy is a great instructor. He's not only a very knowledgeable and competent pilot but he connects with his students. Reassures and encourages them. From my background and career, a lot of instructors and systems were geared to testing and weeding out the "undesirables". Teaching and building up the student was not a common trait. It was a military system and when I became an instructor/trainer, I never took that approach. I wanted my trainees to succeed and I knew each one of them had a different personality and learning style which calls for different methods. Many years later, I felt great satisfaction in seeing all of my trainees succeed in their careers. Several of them surpassed my accomplishments and that makes me proud.
We have all been "training and flying" along with you since the beginning. and we are all SOOOOOOO proud of you!
Wow! Great video. I soloed almost 50 years at 16 with my father watching. It's a day you will never forget.
Amazing series that, I'm sure, so many Baron Pilot subscribers have been waiting for. Congrats, Kim. Keep it up and maintain confidence in yourself.
Excellent, Kim. Congratulations. There's a big sky out there waiting for you!
I cried for joy watching you solo!!! Brought all the memories back from over 40 years ago! Like Chris and the whole community… PROUD OF YOU KIM!!!!!
Congratulations Kim!!!! I still remember my first Solo. It’s the best feeling in the world. Can’t wait till you finish your ppl!!!!!
I soloed back in 1989 but can still remember thinking as I was taking off by myself for the first time "well I've done it now and what goes up must come down so let's do it right". What a feeling of relief and joy to accomplish something like that. You don't get to experience too many feelings in life like that.
For most of us, it is the only time that we were totally responsible for our own survival.
I thought similarly on my first solo too. 'Airborne! Woohoo! Now, the only way you're getting out of this alive is if you get it all right'
And it's a unique situation; more or less the only place you can be where you are totally alone and cannot be directly helped.
Watching Chris cry is priceless. One proud man there.
Kim you are so honest and real and not afraid to show your raw emotions. Congratulations on your Solo. Looking forward to seeing you fly that Baron like a Boss !
Congratulations Kim. Great job and something you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Welcome to the family!
Congrats!! 25+ years later I still smile at my first solo and was blessed to do it right behind watching my wife do hers. She ended up in the local paper because her landings were more , um, 'presentable' than mine. Some moments in life are truly incredible. What makes soloing an airplane extra special is soo few have accomplished it. Welcome to club Pilot Kim - Rock on! (and great job Matt! Knowing which tool to pull from the box at the right moment is truly a skill. She is lucky to have you! )
Congratulations. That's the best feeling in the world. You have mastered the air to leave the planet. You can do anything!
Phenomenal Kim. Its been fantastic watching your journey to this moment. You should be incredibly proud!
You could see (and hear) her confidence improve with each landing. Throwing a curve by switching runways made it even more rewarding.
Outstanding. First solo is a moment you'll never forget.
So happy for you, It's one of the best feelings when you solo!!!!!! You will never forget that moment. You know it's true LOVE when the ? Camera guy is emotional also!!!!!!! That's for sharing it with us!!!!
Matt is such a calm and patient instructor! Congratulations to Kim!
Piece Of Cake! You nailed it perfectly Kim. Certainly got the adrenaline flowing (rush) and you maintained a professional composure on all 3 landings. Congratulations and remember to maintain thine airspeed lest the ground come up and smite thee!
Yay! Way to go Kim. So happy to see you shake off the earlier flight and do so well on the solo
Way to go Kim. You did FANTASTIC!
Absolutely unparalleled video. This video series is amazing. So many emotions have been felt while watching this series, including excitement, sadness, happiness, pride, envy and nervousness, just to name a few. Congratulations, Kim, on an awesome accomplishment!
Congratulations Kim on your solo. Well done.
Phew, didn’t realize I needed a cry today. All the emotions hit when you made that first then second then third landing. 🥲 Even the simplest mention of flaps by Kim was making me tear up. I don’t want this series to end. But I must say…Kim I am so dang proud of you. Really truly grateful for the both of you. ❤
Well done, and many Congrats Kim!! All 3 landings on your nemesis RWY 4 were BUTTA!!! You tamed that RWY for sure!! 😎🎉
I just had tears watching Kim’s 1st Solo! Congratulations!!

Congratulations Kim and great job! Bravery is being scared and doing it anyways!! And Matt, you are the MAN!!!
This sure reminded me of my first solo, especially when you lifted off for the first takeoff, brought a tear to my eyes. Be very proud of this accomplishment as a pilot, from now on every flight is an adventure and a learning experience forever. Be safe and enjoy. Phil

Wat to go Kim! I remember my first solo and I was a ball of nerves but I nailed and I felt on top of the world. A great accomplishment that not many people can do.
Congrats Kim , I have been a huge fan for a while. I love watching Baron pilot. I am so proud of your accomplishments and I know your hubby is too. You guys were not Alone when shedding tears, I was too good luck and you me see me waving from the ground when you fly over Pensacola ,
Bob the instructor is a huge asset! Top job by him. Congrats to all!🏆🥂
Congratulations Kim!!! Welcome to the flying community. Well done!!!
Congratulations on what is one of the many milestones in General Aviation. Only those who have accomplished their solo know how empowering it is. Thank you also for being so vulnerable on camera. My fiancée is contemplating taking this jump, and showing her your ups and downs emotionally will show her that yes, she can do it too. Again congrats, and Happy New Year.
I am a new pilot as of June of this year and Its is not easy but with practice and study you CAN do it. Great Job. I have my shirt tail framed and on the wall. I fly places now.
Congratulations on your very first solo Kim😁
Kim you have great habits and discipline!!! Congratulations!!
I am a low hour pilot (2 years- 200 hours). I am proud of the progress you have made. You slayed your demons and now You can fly a plane! Congratulations! July 9th Solo, Can we go straight to the checkride? The suspense is killing me! 🤣😂🤣
Great job Kim !!! - I must say, ..... I teared up a time or two myself. Such a monumental accomplishment - Congratulations - job well done. Now, ...... let's go get that CheckRide done !!!
11 Days! Wow! I know it's weird to hear from a stranger on the internet, but I think we're all very proud of you! Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us.
Welcome to the club, keep it up Kim, no more tears Chris.
Good Job Kim! I am a post-solo student pilot myself and I really identify with this series you are making. I went through all the same challenges you did but it was part time training over 2 years. Getting as far as you did in 11 days is really something to be proud of.
Congratulations Kim you did Great alot better than ever could . Stay safe
I like how you vocalize all your actions through all aspects of flight, not everyone does. I do this as well whether with passengers or by myself. It helps keep you focused. Congrats!
Congratulations. You'll never forget this. I have my shirttail from nearly 50 years ago. Well done!
Not gonna lie: This EP hit me right in the feels. Well done, Kim!
So proud of you Kim!! You will go far young lady.
Way to go Kim, first solo is in the bag. I can see Kris is going to have his work cut out for him for the Baron's left seat.
I foresee a race to get into the Baron's Left seat in the future!! haha
Man this editing is phenomenal!! I loved the AWOS over the B-roll of her taxi out for her solo. Genius!!
Congratulations Kim! Very glad to see this solo! I’m proud of you for the courage to stay the course and push on to the reward of first solo! It’s like a birthday day I celebrate yearly in a small way usually by taking a flight and marking with a good meal out with friends and family. Next year will be 30 years for me, and I will tell you that it’s a moment that you never forget, you’ll see! One day hope to fly the twin Velocity down y’all’s way, I’m trying to teach my wife to fly and have been showing her your journey👍, we will try to meet y’all some time! Again, big congrats to you on an awesome 1st. solo!
Instructor / Student is all about team work. You guys have it in spades. Congrats to both of you.
This is a really really good series. Loving this as a CFI in training
Oh wow, Congratulations Kim. Ya done good! You'll be putting on the hood anytime nowalways happy to see someone achieve their goals.
Congratulations, Kim!! Talking yourself through the solo really helped the event, too!😅 We viewers could actually feel Kim's confidence as she made additional solos.
Kim a day you will NEVER forget... Congrats! I did it on my sixteenth birthday and I am now sixty-five and think of it often!
I was actually doing pretty good until I saw Kris losing it, then all bets were off. But as I noticed after the video there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd, great job Kim. I've watched a lot of solo video's but this one hit number one, I can't wait to see where your adventure takes you next 🙂
Congratulations, Kim! Well done!!!
