    Great job. This completely changed my color grading quality I'm getting from my camera. Insanely well done.

    Close, but this is wrong; the C100's color space is actually Rec709 already. Only the gamma is canon log; color space is not cinema gamut. Your results will look much more natural if you make this adjustment in your first node (rec709 + clog instead of Canon Cinema Gamut + clog)

    I'm a little confused by the purpose of this process as well. I did a side by side comparison of the c-log converted to rec 709 and c-log to ari - rec 709 and they are exactly the same. It doesnt seem like you gain any dynamic range or anything by converting to ari first, its just an extra step?

    There's one huge thing I immediately notice with this camera. I don't know if its the fact that it's a very old sensor or if its the bitrate but colors don't seem to have many levels of shades. It's like the greens have a few shades as do the reds and the orange. This is a problem all camera's from 2012 - 2016 suffered from unless they had 10bit

      @@terryvideo Does this method reduce the dynamic range of your clips? I noticed sometimes when applying canon default luts it clips my highlights on my c70, which is dumb bc i bought the camera specifically for its DR lol.

    • @terryvideo
      @terryvideo  2 роки тому

      @@wcsdiaries this method should showcase your dynamic range - it could be possible that your original raw clip is over expose? also, try adjusting the highlights on the curve - bring it down a bit.. if it's still clipping, your raw footage is over exposed. The canon cinema line has one of the best DR and color science in my opinion - so it's probably a color grading or exposure issue

    I do have a question about color space transform. Isn't output color space and gamma based on the monitor and not the look you are trying to achieve? For instance I have C70 and shot log2 so my input color space would be Canon cinema and my input gamma Log2 with my output color space being rec709 as most screens are in this color space.

    • @terryvideo
      @terryvideo  2 роки тому

      Yea - that's how i understand color space. It's not a color grade rather transforming the colors to a fixed range of colors and luminance value before grading/applying a LUT. Rec709 being the standard color space.. so it's safe to build a grade in that space.

    Hello, great, great colors for your video, but I have a question I have two options to buy a Sony A7III or a Canon C100 IIat the same price, I ask about sharpness, dynamic range and colors, and is the quality of Canon FHD really comparable to 4K

    • @terryvideo
      @terryvideo  2 роки тому

      yea c100 mk ii has a 4k sensor downsampled to 1080p.. so what you're seeing is a 4k image but not raw dimensions.. if you want a cinema camera, def c100.. if you want videos and photos, then sony a7iii

    I just bought the Canon EOS R6 and started shooting with Log 3. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in DaVinci Resolve 17 or 18. As soon as I drag it into DaVinci Resolve, I can only see the audio and not the video from the clip. I haven't found a way to solve this problem, but maybe someone knows what I'm doing wrong.

      this happened to me. i’m assuming you may be using the free version of davinci? the codec you’ve shot in is too high for the free version of davinci. try using proxies but if that doesn’t work then i used adobe media encoder to lower the bit rate and then it worked fine

    Great video thanks! I was wondering why you are converting to arri Alexa color space and then converting arri alexa to rec 709. Is there a reason for this?

    • @terryvideo
      @terryvideo  3 роки тому +1

      it's not a necessary but arri alexa has a nice flat/log profile to color in and it's used by many professionals - i also see it as taking advantage of davinci's color space tool

      @@terryvideo I was wondering about the second color space transformation on node 3. Why the color space transformation instead of applying the Arri to REC 709 Lut that comes with Davinci on node 3?

  • @Despolitizado
    @Despolitizado 11 місяців тому

    Your tutorial is cool, but dR has this flaw of not including the most popular color profiles like Canon's C-log. A lot of people still have a 60d or 70d and use the program, so an appropriate profile for the C-log or CineStyle is crucial for the evolution of the program. It took you a long time to transform the C-log into Rec 709, which is totally wrong. This process should be almost automatic, as it happens with other modern cameras.

    Interesting. What are your project settings when you bring in your footage? Are you in DaVinci YRGB or DaVinci YRGB Color manage? What is your Timeline Color space?
    Can't seem to bring in my Canon Log shoot footage without DaVinci wanting to raise the levels in my original Log footage? I want my import to look just like the original Log.
    I can see this if I toggle the Bypass. Can't seem to get the original footage on the timeline without DaVinci applying something.

      Davinci Resolve YRGB, Rec 709 Gamma 2.4, hmmm - maybe try updating your Resolve or check if your monitor is calibrated for color grading.

    Hi, good video, but I have a question: I recorded some test C-log videos with my new Cano R6, and when I move them to the timelime in DaVinci, I cannot see the video; it only shows the audio green graphics....so, I'm rather new in Davinci + this new C-log = I'm getting a bit crazy....well, I hope you can help me and give me some easy steps or guidelines on how to appropriately import Canon C-log videos and see them in the timeline. Thnks indeed....Bye
