Agreed! I've worked in retail for a LONG time. I remember a woman going off on my co worker because of our return policy that employees don't make. They walked in holding hands and left with him walking ahead of her looking disappointed.

I was in line at a deli one time, a younger woman was working. There was a man in front of me that was so rude, so demanding and literally demeaning this employee. I’m very shy and incredibly non-confrontational but I couldn’t stand for what I was seeing. I basically told this man how I felt about him and he stormed off. The poor woman working there was crying. I told her that people like that customer are miserable and feel the need to bring others down to their level. I told her she’s doing a great job. The manager saw the whole thing happen and came up to me, thanked me for being so nice and then gave me my sandwich on the house! Of course I never expect anything in return, I was just being a decent human being. But it shows a little kindness goes a long way!

Being rude to us will cost you, literally. Usually if a customer is nice, or at least not rude, and misses a sale or good deal, I will usually remind the customer and ask if the customer would like to take advantage of it. If you are rude, my lips are sealed. I live in a state where we have to charge for bags. If you are polite I might just skip the charge. End of the day, just be polite.
