As a white man I want to say its important for us to speak up too. Black women have beautiful hair in every style. Their hair shouldn't play a role in the workplace (or anywhere else). we don't mandate any other race and the way they wear their hair and black women should be treated equally. I support black women I hope you do too!

Not black but living in Canada, I've heard of similar things from our First Nations population. The main tribe in my area is Objibwe and I've heard from some male Ojibwe coworkers that their long hair was not acceptable... despite all the girl having hair past their shoulders. But when you need the job, they sadly need to compromise by cutting their long hair (which has significant spiritual value according to tribal beliefs).
This even happens on a larger scale. Hockey is a big deal up here and the NHL had a former player of Ojibwe descent named Chris Simon. A tough customer and not afraid of anything. He was pressured to eventually cut off his long hair because when it came to assessing penalties, he was the easiest to spot on the ice since his long hair covered his jersey nameplate. Even when he did nothing wrong, he would be the first one the on-ice officials would point at.

They said it was a distraction and that i should wear a black wig. They considered braids as unprofessional. They even took pictures of me in my office and send it to the CEO. I was an HR manager
I told them that i have rights and asked them to show me where it's written that a black woman can't wear braids at work. I refused to change my hair and said that i was ready to start a fight. One year later they were begging me to stay because i was just ....very professional 😊

Telling her to change her hair is like telling her to deny her heritage ! She looks very sophisticated with her hair, women of color have so many styles to wear their hair and they look amazing. Hair as long as it is clean and not some crazy distracted way is a personal choice and should not be asked to change , yes in the food industry, warehouses and jobs like the hair can sometimes be a hazard and should be pulled back or netted but other than that it's not morally or ethically right to ask for a change.

The Mom at the end is raising a child for the good of our future, just the way her Father raised her. It was a beautiful thing to watch!☮️🌎💟

I have a friend who was asked by his employer to cut off his dreads(neat dreads, let me quickly add), just because he was applying for a job at his place. I got so mad. I'm glad that this is coming to light. Thank you, WWYD🙏🏻

I can absolutely care LESS what a persons hair looks like, if they have tattoos, If they decide to look however they want to look. All of that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with someones work ethic. If you’re a hard worker and a good person, I could care less what someone looks like. And even if someone isn’t a hard worker, I could still care less about what anyone looks like. Let people look like whatever makes them happy. We should all find any form of happiness that we can find at all times.

It’s stomach churning to know that these situations are actually happening. Somewhere out there this is someone’s reality…
