  • Trek to Nepal in March 2023. Completed 3 passes anticlockwise. And glad we did as other way looked more difficult. We went early March to avoid the crowds. Got beautiful weather, plus good snow falls which added to the experience. Lost no days.
Thanks to Makalu Adventure makaluadventur... for their great organisation and our guides Shiva Bhandari and Suraj Pun for your excellent support. Have now trekked Nepal in November and March. Both have many positives (there are no negatives).
Day 1: Lukla to Jorsalle. Went to Jorsalle instead of Phakding. Longer and harder first day, but worth it the next day.
Day 2: Jorsalle to Namche. Shorter day to enjoy more of Namche
Day 3: Namche to Sonasa (via Everest View hotel and Khumjung). Something different rather than staying two nights in Namche.
Day 4: Sonasa to Pangboche. Good hard solid day
Day 5: Pangboche to Dingboche (was originally going to go via Ama Dablam BC but not able to). Be sure to visit Cafe 4410 at Dingboche.
Day 6: Acclimatisation day climb up Nangkartshang peak. Beautiful view.
Day 7: Dingboche to Chukkhung (and Chukkhung Ri). Both in the one day. Good solid hit out. Amazing views of Ama Dablam.
Day 8: Chukkhung to Loboche (via Kongma-La pass). Loved this pass and crossing the Khumbu glacier in the snow.
Day 9: Lobuche to Dzongla. Beautiful walk in the snow. Seeing Thukla and Periche from the other side of the river was great.
Day 10: Dzongla to Thangnak (via Cho-La pass). Great to walk on a snow filled glacier lake.
Day 11: Thangnak to Gokyo. Crossing the wide Ngozumpa glacier amazing.
Day 12: Gokyo to Lungden via Renjo-La pass. Harder than it looks. But views back to Gokyo spectacular. Gokyo is magical.
Day 13: Lungden to Namche: Lots of work being done. Nice to go through towns like Thame.
Day 14: Namche to Lukla. Great to encourage those coming up.
Thamel always great fun and plenty to do.

Concur with David below ... great photos! Interspersing panoramic shots with framed, cropped pics brings it alive. Especially liked your selection of mood, perspective and the ethereal feeling of the moment[s] ... crossing the suspension bridge in the mist!! I trekked into Annapurna Base Camp in 2010 and will be doing the Three Passes in November/December with my son. On earlier treks [India, Ecuador] I carried camera gear [Nikon D810 and lenses] weighing 5kg. There is no way I could do so on this trek, so I've had to 'compromise'. I'm taking a Nikon Z50 with two lenses, coming in at 850g. Hopefully I manage to get images nearing your quality. Cheers

thanks for the feedback. Hope the trip went well with your son. Send me a link if you post them on utube. At 5,500m every kg counts!!

I appreciate the spectacular pictures ... without all of the blabbering that i find in many of the other YT videos for 3 passes trek ... hope to make it either this year or next!! Surprised you didn't take in Everest BC, but maybe it wasn't a good choice for this time of year.

Thanks David. We did EBC in 2017. If I had done my research better, we would have included the 3 passes!!! But it's great to go back again anyway. Enjoy your trip.
