This is a compilation edit of an adventure that I filmed in November, 2016 while trekking the Three Passes in Nepal. The Himalayan vistas in the Everest region are absolutely breathtaking and the people are incredibly friendly. This trek starts and ends in Namche Bazaar, and covers 120 miles (195km). You go over 3 high passes; Renjo La, Cho La, and Kongma La, all well over 5,000 meters (16k feet). I also made a little swing to Everest Base Camp to check out that monster. I completed the trek in 12 days.
Here's a gear list for this Trek:

Hi! I don’t usually have bleach blond hair, ha! This was filmed in Nov/Dec 2016, but it feels like yesterday. Nepal is truly one of my favorite places on earth. I’d love to bikepack there someday! How many of you have been?
This film overwhelmed me with emotion. I cannot even imagine how incredible this experience must have been. I'll be heading there after pandemic. This motivates me to excercise hard every day.
You’re in for a treat! Enjoy
Been to Nepal via India
Great video Ryan. I've been lucky enough to of been twice... Manaslu and Langtang. Excessive snow forced us back on the first trip, and then covid/lockdown force back on the second trip. Definitely a special place, amazing views and great people!!
I've traveled twice to Nepal and yes it is a special place. I subscribed to you after seeing your gear check video for my Annapurna trek. My second visit was inspired by these videos. Loved them there brilliant 👌
Thank you thank you so much for loving our wonderful country Nepal.
N: Never
E: Ending
P: Peace
A: And
L: Love
That’s called NEPAL
NAMASTE 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love that!!!
Nobody has told this to the Maoists, police, corrupt government and helicopter rescue scammers.
@@karipintakivi9153 You say that like everywhere doesn't have a corrupt government, moaists, and outrageous 'rescue' or 'medical' scams.
Example being my country, USA - in my home town we have literal maoists who protest on the street and carry rifles on a weekly basis, the government is beyond corrupt with no real representation or care about the populace beyond buying votes, and if you need rescue in a national park you get charged $30,000 to $40,000~ or at least a good friend did when they got lost hiking in the grand canyon during winter.
This is the best video I have seen so far. I’m a real Sherpa from Lukla... flying Boeing 767 as a captain... in the USA..
No way! That’s so cool. I bet flying into Lukla is a rush
I love the Bulgarian telling you about walking slowly to find your internal balance...amazing
That guy is so cool!
Back when we could freely move around... missing those days.
Those were the days
Haven't been back home in nepal for 3 years now. Can't wait to go back. Thanks for bringing back those old memories.
I miss it too, such a beautiful place
I did EBC in April 2019. I absolutely loved Namche Bazaar. Stunning place. The entire trek from Lukla was incredible. The Everest region was truly an amazing experience. I hope to go back some day.
That whole area is something else! So cool that you got to experience it
I am getting pretty stoked... going in oct this year- Lukla to EBC. I am not a hardcore hiker but more mtbiker and surfing. So this high elevation adventure is a little intimidating but exciting. Any advice for a first timer?
Love those dark blue mountain skies.
Yeah, they’re stunning!!
Your cinematography is just staggering. You have such a special gift when you hit the record button. Thank you for sharing Mr. Van Duzer !
Thanks Jon, all credit goes to the beautiful mountains ;)
I fell so he has different skills like it's documentary rather than vlog. I like that most
Man, you had such a good energy in this video!
So lucky to have been born there. The most magical place with the warmest and kindest people. Miss it everyday!
You are so beautiful people you exploring our Nepal beauty
Many thanks welcome always.
I love Nepal!!
@@duzer you very welcome.
You know our government doing nothing very poor our Nepal but we got many beautiful Himalaya again many thanks for your hard work come .
I love my county 💕 Nepal.
It’s an amazing place!
Nice video Ryan. I've done EBC, Kongma La pass and the Gokyo lakes as my honeymoon. We lost our guide, got lost and slept out at 5300m for 14 hours with just a sleeping bag on kongma La. A real nightmare at the time. We may well go back to conquer it properly one day soon.
I just back from EBC trip like a week ago and I already missed Nepal, Namche, Tngboche, Dingboche, Laboche etc..
Ryan, it's nice to see your adventures. Dude, though I don't know you, I'm proud of you. You're a guy who brings joy. In this day and age, that's a superpower. Keep doing what you do and I say that as I am little selfish because make my day better and it's always time well spent. have a good day.
I'll keep doing it my friend, thanks always for your kind words. Hope you're doing well
3:40 that small boy is super super cute and made my day
He sure is cute!
This guy was born for this... Absolutely flying through the trails...🏃🏃🏃
Nepal makes me happy
I did the Everest trek from Lamosangu in 1974. No beer or wifi in those days. I enjoyed watching your original series on Three Passes and now this edited version. Being 70, I'm now a cyclist. I know it's much easier to recommend things to others than to do them yourself but anyway, how about doing some epic rides like across Asia or the length of S.America.
Very cool, Nepal must have been a different world back then. I’d love to ride in Colombia, that’s high on the list!
Dirt roads in Kathmandu. Khumbu was almost empty and Sherpas had seen few westerners. I'm 72 and spent 20 years, on expeditions and guiding in Nepal. Planning to go see my sherpa brother when travel permits.
I met that old man sitting at donation box on my 2019 EBC trek also. I guess he is always there. Thanks for sharing your trip !
I bet he makes quite a lot of money!
@@duzer : His name is Mr. Lama Seru, a very high spirited man who constructed/repaired a portion of this trail to make the trek easier for tourists.
Amazing video by the way. Motivated to go there asap.
Cheers ☺️
"Breath-giving", for sure!
Nice way to put it, right?
Feeling nostalgic watching this. Also trekked here in 2016 and truly one of the most beautiful and magical places I've ever seen.
It’s out of this world
I already watched this video but i still watching because i love mountain and trekkers
This one is quite a bit different than the series I made years ago. Enjoy!
I’m 14 and I just Finished watching the GDMBR and it was AWSOME! everyday when I get home from school I get on my bike and ride in my neighborhood. I want to ride the GDMBR when I’m out of college or Maybe before then. I love your adventures so much, I also love backpacking and rock climbing so much to. Thanks for posting videos!
That’s awesome!! Love to hear this. I wish you all the best, and I know that you’ll make these bike dreams come true!
Good to hear you huffing for breath as you hike up a hill. Similar to me, only I’m 14,000 feet lower.
Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, that air is THIN! Thanks for watching
Going back to Nepal for my third time after corona. I did Annapurna and Tamang heritage/Langtang trek before. I also met my wife going over Thorong La pass. All because i watched this series. You made such inspirational and helpful videos. Three passes is my goal next time. I can't wait. Its such a beautiful country. Namaste!
You met your wife on Thorung La?? What a place to fall in love.
@@duzer we met there and fell in love in Pokhara and later Thailand. We went back to Nepal the next year together ❤. Thanks again for the inspiration!
Very cool story. I wanna meet my wife in a similar fashion.
Yoo Ryan, I'm from Brazil and I watch you almost every single day, I'll do my fist Bike tour December!😁 You inspire me
Hello my friend!! I wish you all the best on your upcoming adventure
@@duzer thanks 💪🏽❤️
Hope u meant inspire cause it's not a good thing if he expires u 😂

Thanks for visiting our country🤗❤️
Still to go to Nepal.
Ment to be there November 2020, Got postponed.
Hopefully this November 21 and if not it will be November 22.
But the best thing about it, the mountains will always be there, so I will get there to be sure.
If anyone else is heading out in November give me a shout.
Bag is already packed 🇺🇲❤🙏🏴 Brian
You're gonna get there my friend, and it'll knock your socks off!
@@duzer ❤👍
I have to add something. Those shots, when you rare heading up over Renjo La Pass with Ogi, you still had those shots where you had to go up ahead and put down the camera or you had to go back and get the camera.. just crazy to think about that while you are struggling to breath, to make the video even better. Amazing.
Yep, it’s a lot of work to get those shots, but it sure makes the video better. Thanks for noticing the details.
OH My GOD!!What a beautiful and picturesque view thru out the video!! Spin the prayer wheels anticlockwise more please!!
Excellent. I can't wait to get back out there myself. Nepal is so addictive.
I agree
Amazing video!!!! I hope to be there in 2022 if the Covid let me fly to Nepal. Meanwhile I am warming up in the Andes! Greetings from Argentina!
ola ,i love to trek sud-America, i hope to come back your country, especialy to Aconcagua
summit,i just tell you Nepal is beautifull too, Annapurna circuit and Everest three passes
are stunning...greetings from France!
I was there three years ago , including the Island peak. I met some American guys , it was fun . You guys are born for doing things like that ...
Thank you, Ryan, for sharing your story. Spectacular views! It inspires me to experience the three passes trek by myself.
I did this trek spring 2018... truly the most memorable trip of my life. Nothing coul wipe a smile on my face either. But it took me considerably longer time to finish it, with few backlashes on the way due to altitude sickness. Thanks for sharing 😍
my favourite videos from you man! I'm trekking the EBC next week and I'm so pumped, thanks for the awesome work! :)
No way! That’s so awesome. Have fun
Wow
You're in for a treat doing this in the dead of winter :) I did the same in 2018 and it was indescribable. Have fun!
Fabulous time to go. You will get lots of clear weather. Good sleeping bag is highly recommended.
@@rachelselvaranee thankyou!
Awesome footage
I got altitude sickness on way back from EBC.
Missed Chola pass.
Oh bummer! Hope you get to go back someday
@@duzer At least I reached EBC to actually do a magical performance. The following year, I did the Annapurna Circuit Trek. I had no altitude sickness for the 2nd time. I admire your goals ... I needed a porter to guide me otherwise I probably get lost! In Norway, I was the last to return from my Trolltunga trek and finding the markers in the cold rain was difficult!
Loved this. As a young man, my hero was George Mallory. I read everything I could find on him and Sandy Irvine. It was a dream of my adventure buddy and I to get to basecamp, like you did here. When Conrad Anker found Mallory's body, I almost packed my bags and went. Since then, my buddy has made it several times. I opted to have kids. Looks like I will be about 75 yrs old before they are out of high school. I may never make it to Nepal, but thanks for the vicarious experience of traveling with you.
I'm glad that I could show you a little piece of Nepal through my lens. I hope that you can make it over there someday!
It's funny hearing about the high altitude and the need to walk slowly but all of you are walking pretty good pace. Goes to show how fit you all are really are. The lack of oxygen and cold makes us really appreciate being able to exist there and appreciate the sunshine. Makes us realize how precious oxygen and sunshine is in lower elevation.
I'm a big fan of oxygen ;)
Incredible video. Definitely one of the best. That blue lake, dang! I loved those kids you met and did the selfie with. That was great.
Those kids were so cute!
Nepal seems awesome. Thanks for another great video, Ryan.
It’s incredible
Tengbuche lookout is amazing with natural beauty.
Ryan, not gonna lie, watching this and having been there being inspired by you brought some tears - reliving these moments again. I remember feeling the same as you and my heart feels full all over again :')
Editing this together really brought back all the feels
Amazing. I’ve been studying and watching lots of videos on EBC, Annapurna Circuit and also the Three Passes. This is by far the best video I’ve seen and think you may have sold it 👌
You will LOVE it!!
My single favorite UA-cam video. I love that there is no soundtrack. Big fan of the channel!
Awww thanks! I really appreciate your comment
Great video and what an amazing place. Here was our trip if you would like to see
Everest Base Camp and Island Peak trek
Thanks
Just ordered two priority turis for myself and daughter. Looking forward to spring!!! Cant wait to get out !!!
Right on! Those are great bikes
cool! Maybe we even crossed paths in Nov./Dec 2016. I was also trekking around the three passes during this time. Nepal leaves footprints on everybody´s soul. You never come just once... I have been back again and cannot wait to climb Mera Peak once travelling is possible again.
Did the same trek two years ago and this brough back the happiest memories. Thank you Ryan!
DUDE! I am always so focused on your bike videos, but finally sat down to watch this on the big 70" 4K TV screen and wow, just wow! What an incredible trip and experience. It is nice to see you off the wheels and hoofin it on the mountain. I love how you interact with locals, no matter where you re. I have a friend who went to Nepal in 2013 but not near Everest Base Camp and you truly captured the culture and lifestyle there. Well done buddy, so glad I spent time watching this. I did not pause it or get up at all, I was enthralled. It's obvious you were too.
Oh wow, thanks for giving this one a shot! Nepal is one of my favorite places on the planet, it's truly magical.
I did Everest base camp trek last year. Your video brought back such beautiful memories. I am waiting for the next opportunity to go back to Nepal. 💙💙💙
It’s amazing
Ryan WOW what a nice place!!!!!!!! I can imagen the Clear Air.. thank you for sharing
The cleanest air!
Okay, I’m ready to go to Nepal now. Great surprise for my Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing Ryan!
Hope you enjoy it
You are most welcome to Nepal🤗
I have watched so many videos on Everest Base Camp treks, this is one of the best. If this doesn't inspire you to visit this region, nothing will, great job. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks! That’s a huge compliment.
@@duzer You're welcome bro, seriously good video.
I was there in 1985. The mountains look the same, but the food and lodging look way different!
Yeah, you can order just about anything, even in the middle of nowhere
I wanna go back to this absolutely breathtaking country. Thank you for this video. I love these versions where there’s no music and just scenery, nature and you (: really captures the experience best in my opinion
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm liking creating these longer cuts with no music, feels more immersive.
That was an amazing film. I leave to do the three passes on March 28th, i'm so excited!! It will also be a solo trip.
Great Video, have done the 3 high passes myself and I loved it.
Once international travel resumes I’m planning on going back again, hoping for March 2021 🙏🏻
Right on! I wanna go back as well
You surely know how to admire the nature.
I love your trip
I just love what you’re doing. I’ve done three bikepake trips to Durango, and Bisby so I there. Keep doing the rides! Blessed
Awesome! Have fun out there
Awesome! Trekking in the Himalayas is on my bucket list!!
It’s something special!
when u feel alive like this, u make us feel alive...thnk u
It’s a great cycle, isn’t it?
Great video! Thanks for your efforts in making and filming it, it's just amazing
Thank you very much!
I'm amazed by your effort to walk back all the time to film yourself hiking ;) Awesome video
Thanks for sharing. What a grand adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it, it's a magical place
Im so happy this is an old video , all i could think about is how hard it must be for these communities when someone gets covid. It for sure is a double edged sword ,because it is their livelihood.
Beautiful video Ryan!
Yeah, COVID in rural communities anywhere in the world get hit hard because they don’t have quick access to healthcare. I hope it’s safe to travel sometime in the next year
Exactly, these communities would get hit hard by an outbreak. Hopefully we all get our vaccinations and can travel again freely, maybe in a year or so
Perfect video for a cold sunday morning!
It’s definitely the perfect time to sit inside and watch videos ;)
Excellent training ride from Minnesota!!!
This series made me do this....best Information on YT mate. Cheers from Germany
Right on!! Did you love it?
@@duzer exactly as you said...another planet. Those giant mountains make you feel so small. No Words to describe that stunning beauty!
It’s a special place!
@@duzer but Gorak Shep is hell freezing over 😅
So true!!
My friend, you have lived 100X what I have. Thank you for sharing your love and adventures! I only dream about visiting SOME of the wonderful places you've been, and Nepal would be one of them!
Nepal is a fantastic place to visit, hope you can make it happen
Awesome video blog, best I’ve seen on hiking in Nepal, headed there at Easter to do the 3 passes trek, can’t wait!
An excellent video adventure. It would have been cool if you had flown that drone over the top of Mount Everest.
I was a rookie drone pilot back then, don’t think that was an option. Also, the air is too thin to fly that high
This was really good to watch. I lived in Nepal for years, came home to visit parents before getting married, but the pandemic happened and I’ve been stuck since. This video reminds me of why I stayed there so long, why I want to spend my life there and why I’m building a school there.
Nepal is amazing, good luck with your school
#LivingTheDream Awesome video...amazing - I love it. Keep up the life, Ryan!!!
Stunning! I am so happy that I started travelling the world 10 years ago, because 2020 and most likely 2021 will be 2 years paused (for travel at least) out of my life. This year, I turn 60 and would love to go somewhere to celebrate that milestone. We'll see, it's in July, so maybe, but only if my 14 year old can come with. Until then, I am at "yak speed' :) bike rides nearby (I did just put a trailer hitch on my tesla so that I can take my bike places, I wish I did that sooner) and rowing in the house :) Thanks for this beautiful inspiring video,
I hope you can make something cool happen with your kid. Happy 60th year
I was sailing around the world when I got turned back. I had big plans to sail for years and it was being financed by charter guests. I had a year of guests scheduled but when it all got canceled I went bust and sold the boat. I'm writing because we are having similar problems of travel but wanted to send encouraging words that we really do have so much to see and do near us. I'm starting the Arizona Trail next week and when I finish in May, I'll prepare to ride the Continental Divide MBT. I won't be in the South Pacific Islands but I'll still "get out there!" 😉👍
Love it Ryan! I've always wanted to go to Nepal so maybe before I die I'll make it. Stay safe and Namaste.
You’d love it!
What an interesting adventure.. all the best from Jordan 🇯🇴
All thumbs up, thank you so much, I enjoyed every single second. It felt so intense that I am not sure I was there instead of you....must be the altitude sickness or what....
Altitude sickness has been known to pass though youtbe videos to viewers ;)
I don't think I've ever seen anything like this video. That was wonderful. I felt like I was there!
Glad you enjoyed it! It’s such a special place
Brings back fond memories, thank you.
Editing it did the same for me, like I was transported back
your spirit is so positive dude..stay like that and just enjoy as much you can..and ofcorse continue to make souch beautiful videos
You can count on it
My favorite videos as well and actually made me do the same thing back in 2017!
Nice!! It’s a magical place
Thanks for taking us with u 👌🏻✌🏻
Ryan that was an incredible series! I’ll say it again your positive demeanour is absolutely the best. What amazing footage- the best I’ve ever seen!
Thank you so much!
So I need to say I look for video's about the small villages in this region. Ryan, You are the best when it comes to this. I wonder how people find the material to make the amazing building in the middle of nowhere. I love this!!! I am from Colorado and wished I did what you are doing when I was younger. Thank you thank you!
Meeting the people along the way is always the best part. And those kids we met toward the end were so cute
Thats what i want also biking and trekking
Ryan,Very nice video!
Congratulations!👍👏🙏🙏
Thanks! 😃
Thanks for the journey, you make it look easy.
Great video...this is the kind of videos make me stop doing my homework and sit down to watch and have a relax time.
I’m proud to be a homework killer ;)
I needed this today.
Glad I could provide
Thanks soooo much for all that footage!! This Nepal thing has been a bucket list ambition of mine for too long. Off the charts EPIC!! You killed it Ryan....
Thanks, I hope you can go there someday!
You made reality of 3 pass Trek..
Wonderful ! Thank you for sharing your adventures ❤️
Great adventure - well put together. I love this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for posting this. I didn't take enough footage of my three passes trip, so I'm relying on your video for memories. I was about to say we had similar weather until I realised we were there at the same time (perhaps a few days apart) - so similar weather would make sense :) Incidentally, as a former Boulder resident, I was saddened to hear about the shooting. It seems so out of place for such a friendly, welcoming city.
@doogsy3 I was there just ahead of Ryan, it seems. October and November. When you go back, do the passes route. It's much quieter and the views, as you can see from the video, are mindblowing.
Nicely done, showing people how to altitude pace. Met too many folks who don’t know or don’t follow the trek high, sleep low etc and their trip suffers. I miss the himalaya high. Looking forward to taking my travel dollars back to Nepal. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks. I really hope to go back in the next few years!
@@duzer The Himalaya never stop calling once you’ve had a taste. The Karakoram is equally addictive. Thanks for the gift of video and bringing this into our homes 🙏
Im amazed that you did it without trekking poles.
We plan to trek EBC this Oct, this video really helps .....nice job bro
