These 280CE’s are one of the vastly under appreciated models and will in my opinion only appreciate in value. They are beautiful, and embody the time in MB history when quality was job 1. They have true vintage and classic lines, but are a great car to also drive and enjoy. Great for rallies and vintage events. I have two, a 78 with 55k original miles and a 1980 with a suspect albeit possible 20k miles. Enjoy your new classic, it is gorgeous!
The Euro bumpers and lights look amazing. The colour combination is also really nice. This model really grows on you. They look better with the H&R lowering springs. The rear windows are always a problem in the power window cars, but they can be repaired and reinforced. Mine are both US cars, automatic, the manual is also very nice. Does yours still have the exhaust shields? I did mine in black powder coat and detailed the chassis and suspension. The 78 has the original radio without cassette, the 80 has an aftermarket radio, which I agree, must be changed. Pick up an extra door stop while they are still available, or lube and service your originals. Get a pair of the special wrenches necessary to adjust the valves. Enjoy!
- That is indeed a gorgeous one. (Newer paint does help). I've always loved the W123 coupes. Youre right: great lines. - Not top of range tho. These were the "E-class" of their day. Still great value. - If you use her for daily driving, make sure you keep on top of maintenance (they need constant little fixes), and make sure you cover her not with classic /collector's or with regular ACV insurance but at least with "stated value" insurance (take photos, log all maintenance and updating expenses), or best of all, "agreed value" insurance. - Audio is weak. You need a lavalier or headset mic.
I had a 1981 280E it did not have a revolution counter, maybe on your car this was part of the Italian spec. Rare to see a Euro specification car with A/C, in the US automatic climate control was standard!

My car's battery sits on the right hand side. it is a left hand drive, so maybe it has something to do with the steering column or something bring on the left. Otherwise everything else looks identical.
@@vintagewheels4992 No Mine is RHD with the battery on the left. I see now I got my lefts and rights mixed up, most likely because I am standing in front of the car when I am looking at the engine. Sorry for the confusion.
Hi could you tell me whair you located headlining for your car and front and rear windscreen seals as I am restoring 1 which is completely missing Headlining
@@vintagewheels4992 I was about to buy it in Magenta but a Fabio in Milano purchased it and wanted to sell it to me but you came over with your truck. Do you have whatsapp? There are some left in Italy but prices very high. How much did you pay? What is the highest price you would pay for a very good one? Help me find one. I live in Rome and can help you in many ways.
Thank you for your answer. I can buy one for around 6K but I don’t know nothing about those kinds of Mercedes. But if you said that price can be up to 20K maybe make sense to get it.
Just be careful. It can look really good but can have big rust issues. I will release a new video soon. You will see how it looks once you get the paint off.
I have seen a really nice one sell in the high 40’s USD. Average to good condition $15 to $25k, with all parts intact. I believe that in concours condition, $75k USD is a reasonable expectation.

Can’t agree more with the under appreciated part. I dont understand how they aren’t recognized more by the vintage car community.

That noise is the hazard light switch, it's faulty.
Central locking is vacuum operated, with no vacuum pump.
It has a vacuum tank in the boot.
Difficult to fix, if u don't know the system....
Superba....

Thank you
The Coupe is a beautiful shape.
Hello, Great video. Would you be able to send me option equipment numbers translation what they mean. I'm looking to buy w123 2.3 1978. Thank you

I have two cars benz w 115 and 123
Both vehicles do not run very badly
The w 115 car was the official car used by the world’s first prime minister
My dream is to get those 2 cars running
It is not easy
The politicians of sri lanka have stolen the national economy and the whole country is in debt to the world
The country is now being run by IMF and world aid
Everything is taxed
Just breathing is not taxed
I have seen benz cars abandoned in some countries which are in the best condition
Both my cars have about 60% damage to the bumper
Recovery is difficult
If you have the body of the w 115 or 123 cars in you possession, I would be grateful if you could provide me with the body of those cars.

Best mercedez....
The Italian option is that it automatically sounds its horn at the car in front 1.7 seconds after the lights go green.
I have to check that in the sales catalogue 😄
I quite like that colour. Not original but quite classy.
It doesn’t look bad, but when you compare it to the original it makes more sense

I ordered the headliner on german ebay thru seller “colorado-car”, Front and rear seal i order on mbzclassicparts

Can please someone tell me how much this car can worth in perfect condition?
A good specimen with low mileage is worth north of 20.000€.
