Is one of the most looked for Mercedes as weren´t sold as much as the four door version, i know people seeking since the 80´s a car like this and they never found one my two of this aren´t from my country but one from the netherlands and other from Canada(the turbo-diesel 300CD)but after all the 80´s 500SEc was the most beutifull car when released, i have three of them with diferent engines and finishings or extras
The underside is coated with rubber which conceals a lot of the rust and is nasty to remove. It took me 2 months working 3 hours a day to repair the rust.
i have all the coupé from mercedes being the oldest a american version of the now called S class , 1965 , 280 SC. I have two of this, one came from Canada with a 300 turbo-diesel engine not available in Europe that had also the 230CE, loved it, it´s a great car and with american bumpers or the front beer bench to warm our backs with the heat coming from the engine while drinking a beer, this before go surfing at a perfect beach with long area of sand and perfect increasing size waves of crystal clear water in the afternoon, this in sunny late November and in early 90´s, whle listening to Pixies , Jesus and the Mary Chain, the Cult, Siouxie and the Banshes, also a bit of Mission and Sisters of Mercy at personal taste for better seasoning. but what a car it was , refering to the at the time bought turbo-diesel, of this colour, have also a early 70´s w114 coupé with the tinier body also the 74 coupé w115( big body) ,same body but better finishings as the already sold at the time w123 tinier body only in 77 ,not sure now they released the 300D with the bigger w123 body, allthough my father drove a w115 240D 3.0 or with the 300D engine in 75

If it was originally sold in Sweden then it only has 156hp. They had some other emission laws at the time. Looks like the shifting points needs to be adjusted. You can see it shifts way to early compared to the markings on the speedo when you floor it.
Early shifting on full throttle, make sure the kick-down solinoid is working correctly. When the solinoid switch is depressed the transmission will only shift at the red line.
That paint color is stunning and the interior color compliments it perfectly. What a beautiful car.

Oke. Here the where pretty common. About 20 years ago. Now the are also pretty rare but also the normal 123 sedan is rare seen on the streets

i have the same exact 280ce, in Petrol Green paint. im restoring mine because has some rust on the bottom

240D was a 4 cylinder diesel. The 300D was a 5 cylinder. Yes, u could get a 200D...hopelessly slow.

@@JMSpeedshop yes EGR. Our 250 from 1980 had 128 hp instead of 140 hp but still managed 200 on the odometer.
