Sweet video! Thank you for posting this. And super awesome work on the fire obsidian. It's so beautiful! We picked up a bit of fire obsidian and electric blue obsidian this past weekend at Quartzite. I'm gonna have to do some practice runs before attempting to work on the fire obsidian. Again thank you for posting this video. Great work. 👍👍
I've had people tell me they are scared to work it but my advice is to find a cheap silver or gold sheened obsidian and practice on that to get comfortable with working it. It really isn't all that bad!
@@RebeccaMittner-c1p Quartzite, Arizona QIA Powwow Gem & Mineral show was this past week/weekend. The vendor we bought from was from Oregon. I can't remember his name from the top of my head at the moment.
It does help to have a higher dome on pieces to reduce a light bulbs glare - but the sun REALLY helped. I got lucky we had a break and got a little bit of sunshine!
I agree with you on a couple of things...one, that is BEAUTIFUL, cannot argue with that and two, Diamond Pacific wheels, they are the best. Apparently in our opinion at least. I was taught on them, I prefer them but boy are they pricey...Thanks Kyle, great little video.
They are pricy but they produce a quality finish! I started out with polishing with expando drum wheels and then was using the nova wheels on a pixie for small stuff.
I have a fairly large piece with two separate lines running through it. I’m scared to death to attempt anything with it yet. I’m more of a tumbler kinda guy right now. But some days I’ll take it on
Gotta be careful to avoid the claims out there. Claim owners are out there near daily and are going after people often for claim jumping. You could find it outside the claims but it's just harder to do.
The layer is in the stone and in order to show it, I have to grind down to just above the layer and if you go too far - you can go through it and lose the color. There are some pieces that have multiple layers but each layer can be different. and it does help to know which way the layer is bending before working it.
@elizabethlewis3509 zero dust when using water. When using my other machines without water, then I wear a mask, have the garage door up and have a fan blowing it outside.
Sometimes you can find it on Etsy or Ebay - though, it can be spendy. If you know what to look for in the rough material, you could find it cheaper at rock shows or rock shops if they have obsidian from Oregon.
I did! It took me 3 times as long to wash my hair after my rockhounding trip the other week and I decided to just keep my hair shorter. Water isn't free hahaha

Where is Quartzite? That obsidian was Spectacular. I’d like to try and get some.

Very beautiful indeed, sir. Well done, and thank you for the video .
Thank yo!
I think that cab turned out superbly!
Thanks for the tips throughout the video, much appreciated!!
Thank you!
Yup that's a stunning piece
The shot of it taken outside was definitely easier for me to see the effect of that particular fire obsidian. Wow!

@ I have a Kabking 8, hope to eventually replace their wheels with DP. Ones I have now are not well balanced and or not round, causing vibrations
Well done! I appreciate these how to or technique videos.
Thank you! I'll keep doing them because it's free!!!

I say go for it! If you can find any other sheens of obsidian - you can always practice on those before making the jump to the special piece :)
I didn’t forget either , I’m probably gonna have to wait till spring to get the material to send you from lavic and the Cadys
Those fireobsidians are incredible❤❤❤❤
Fantastic job. Of course. Didn’t expect anything else. You’re awesome bud.
Thank you!!
Incredible piece!🤩
Im going to have to drive down to Oregon and find me some of that material!

@WorldofRockhounds oh, 100%, definitely not in to claim jumping.
👍👍👍👍 very good video gemstones 👍👍
Simply amazing!! Great job my friend!
@@MarsStones1 thank you!
Very nice!!!
😎
Great results.
Nice sunshine shot. Great video. Learned new things.
Can you grind out the layer that shows the fire or will it be throughout the rock?
How do you which direction you need to polish?

Thanks for sharing!
great stone
Yes very very beautiful
Ive been looking at cabbing this stone. Just weary of online sources as its rare and hard to find raw material. That carpet wheel worked wonders !
It's a really gorgeous obsidian!
I don't have any of those! I'm gonna have to go on an obsidian hunt now! Lol
Hey Kyle
Howdy!
Thank you !! I learn er a lot ! That’s Almost as bright as a black opal ! Ps Oregon is my favorite state !
@qiqi2692 there are pieces that are even better than this one too!
@@WorldofRockhoundsmaybe the region of Burns , OR has lots of em . I heared that the ground there is one big layer of obsidian .
L 🌈 VE it!!
Those tiny impurities are phenochryst
Did you get that from glass butte? I have a few pieces that I found last year that I am sure have fire but I only have a tumbler. 😢
Why aren't you wearing a respirator?

Hello, please tell me if obsidian has a magnet or not
It’s like opal obsidian
Oh my goodness! Where can I get some?

Pretty material, but I think Davis Creek Rainbow obsidian is even prettier.
Did you get a haircut ?
I did! It took me 3 times as long to wash my hair after my rockhounding trip the other week and I decided to just keep my hair shorter. Water isn't free hahaha
