Hey chums,
This time, we take a look at the Trolls, and in particular the ways some of them shape the very foundations of the Beta kids’ session, as well as the kids’ early lives. As such we mainly talk about Karkat, Gamzee, Vriska, Terezi, and Tavros in this video--but don’t worry, we’ll get to the the rest of the trolls soon enough!

This comic‘s bizarre themes are as uncannily poetic as they are abundant.
It’s like the War and Peace of our generation.
Didn’t Dave kinda get his revenge...? By showing Gamzee his origin? I can see that as a revenge tactic, but an unknowing one?
Gamzee is both a clown (juggalo) and a puppet, and made the beta boys fear him. :O
I just re-noticed that the troll's prospit team are the main assholes that messed with the human session the most, the derse team mostly kept to themselves/died to gamzee/became jokes in the dream bubbles.
Maybe that's part of the active/passive idea that's sprinkled everywhere
It'd make sort of sense because rose and dave aren't exactly crazy active compared to john and jade
VoidHugger you also have to consider aspect as well. Certain aspects have personality traits attached to them, such as time and its attachment to action over all else.
That's why I hate how Prospit gets so much more attention than Derse. Can't we have a Derse-swayed session protagonist for once?
I know someone who googled a list of Terezi's passwords when they found the first password screen and accidentally skipped half of the comic
Yeeeah, I didn't like that shit either cuz like anybody who has any kind of obsessive compulsory toward wanting to know shit would undoubtedly do that and I had to really stop myself from doing it when I read through it.
I did look one up before, and only saw a blue glowing mist thing, then got confused and went back. Looking back at this, I’m super glad I didn’t press the ==> button and spoil the entire retcon thing.

i went somewhere around page 6000 and i was confused as fuck, so went back and finished the comic.
I hate this. I hate how internally consistent this bullshit is, because it makes it unbelievable but I know it's really there. He wasn't even planning to keep it going for that long.

So has anyone else noticed how smart the girls in Homestuck are? While movie/TV scriptwriters are writing wallflowers Hussie keeps providing manipulative, scheming dogs who are constantly poking at the edges of reality
Light is the aspect most closely linked with intelligence. With the lone exception of zebede every single light aspect so far has been a girl. Rose, Vriska, Aranea, Joey, and Konyyl are all light aspect and not very different from each other
Just to keep facts straight, As of the time of that post (and this one), Joey had not bin confirmed nor denied as a Light player. Good day.
Well, there IS still the chance that Joey could be a Life Player.

Rose is pretty much the smartest Homestuck character for the first 4 acts, she literally carries everyone through.
Hussie is best troll
My theory is that Hussie is a genetic twisted version of Kanaya or Kanaya is a self-introduced trollsona of Hussie(but that theory isnt mine)

@@STOCKOUP It's pretty believable as same zodiac and the fact that is Kanaya the one who "gets rvenge" on Erida, a character who is probably an insert of someone Hussie despises/had beef
We all know that Sweet bro and Hella Jeff are the most important characters in the story.
I think it's a bit misleading to say that Gamzee's influence was the cause of Jack Noir's rebellion. We've seen Jack take action against the Black Queen in half of the Jacks shown in the story. Operation Regisurp happened because Jack recognized that BQ had made herself vulnerable.
And in the other two cases, we see Jack rebelling not against the Dersite royalty, but against the "rules" of the Purple & Gold Cold War that exists in the Medium prior to player entry, by murdering unawakened dream selves. One of those cases was because of the BQ being replaced by an outside influence, but the other was simply because he'd been bribed with scottie dog candies.
It seems to be Jack's base role in SBURB to be a power hungry rules breaker; all that Gamzee's actions did was define the form of that rebellion.

@@thornangel16 i think i just found my typing quirk, () if you think about it double parenthesis usually mean important information that can be ignored. This would be a great use as a jade bllod or lower(or grey if your karkat) and highbloods would mostly ignore you in chat.

Terezi (along with Sollux) were also the reason why the kids and the trolls were even able to communicate in the first place, through having Dave wire her a bunch of boonies. It's a paradox, so Dave is just as complicit in the chain, but it feels important enough to be worth a mention.

theres so much influencing and counterinfluencing between multiple universes here that my brain is becoming a fractal
Homestuck just has this narrative that puts a lot of weight in to pretty much all of the characters actions and motives that make their struggle feel so real and overtly complicated. Anyways, thank you optimistic duelist for this wonderful video for my weekly dose of homestuck fan indulgence.
One thing I always thought was that alternia was a reffrance to enternia from he man as they do seem like polar opposite yet similar at the same time

I'm curious if anyone can answer my questions. 1) Do you have to beat your denizen or can you just do the *Choice* to get the grist hoard 2) How does the DNA for first guardians work, never fully understand 3) Can multiple sessions from the same planet win? 4) If one session scratches does it messes up all the other sessions? 5) Is it possible for a beta session to win the game or are they destined to scratch? I can't find decisive answers, so I'm curious what others think.
1. You don't have to beat your denizen, as long as you agree to their terms.
5. There's nothing saying that a beta session can't win
Cathie Upchurch 1) an important part of The Choice is that it normally isnt a choice at all, since the denizens will know what youre going to choose. as far as i understand it, all denizens will offer a different Choice to each player and if they refuse, they will fight to the death. 2) the genetic code for each first guardian is stored in the subconscious of one of the players (beta session was rose, alpha session was jake). this code is ectobiologically combined with different objects that determine the intelligence of the guardian itself (a dog for bec vs an omniscient cueball and lil cal for scratch).
Cathie Upchurch 3) i’m not sure about this one, but i don’t see a reason why not, provided each session’s players have stable ectobiology loops. the reason we focus on the beta kids is because they’re directly responsible for the failure of the troll session. they are also the main characters of homestuck, so go figure. 4) no, each session from one planet is separate and has its own incipisphere. 5) “beta” is just the name slapped onto the B1 version of sburb, it doesn’t have any ramifications for the session itself.

I mean Cal/Lord English was also using his Lord of Time powers to influence Gamzee through his entire life to *do* that stuff in the first place. You see the cueballs in his eyes showing direct influence all the time when ge interacts with the kids too

Like, Eridan, Vriska, and Gamzee?
Even Terezi and Kanaya could be counted as they aren't low bloods, they could be considered middle bloods.
But the low bloods actually didn't start killing people, besides merely defending themselves.
(Besides Aradia, but she's a special case what with having become a robot made with the intentions and "biology" of a high blood. )
It may be the way that trolls are socialized, highbloods are taught they are meant to kill other trolls and lowbloods are taught to just take it.

Only one note: Jack's hatred of the queen does not seem to stem from clowns, but from the prototyping process in general. Regardless of the specific prototyping, Jack always develops a vendetta against the queen in every session.

I never realized all their chumhandle abbreviations were components of DNA. Holy shit.
Except for the Cherubs, who get the nucleotide base for RNA instead. And the Chumhandle John changes to, EB, is on the surface a reference to EarthBound as another commenter on this video pointed out, but it could also reference Ethidium Bromide, a fluorescent dye used in genetic sequencing that also has mutagenic properties.
