- For my final AP Stats project, I performed a statistical analysis of if there's a bias for any specific Homestuck Aspect. Here's my findings!
i worked on the editing from 2 pm to 11 pm yesterday and had to bring my computer to school to finish!! tehe!!!!! no but i genunely had a lot of fun and im really happy with how it turned out.

hmm. no.
There are aspects who are rarely shown in the comic itself, Doom is the most egregious example.Even a victim of this, the Life aspect, got a good sample with Jane.(I miss canon Jane). Which means that people know less how the powers, function and how the exercise of such aspects work.
on the other hand, i'm way more interested in the less-featured Aspects exactly because they aren't as present and are more mysterious

Doom would do the opposite.
Blood would unite and solidify things, or strengthen bonds and connections.I have thought about it for a long time.
@@visionofsolace8961 Karkat Vantas was a blood player and did keep the trolls somewhat together and less murdery for a remarkable amount of time.

agree, i find it interesting particularly acknowledging popular/sensical view of aspects especially in life/doom since they can be interpreted quite true to their name. I find it especially interesting here the equal lack between hope/rage players for the same reason. as someone who loves analysing classpects, boy *howdy* are those two a nightmare, if not just because most examples are unclear destructive classes. in tandem with the fact they dont have even as much "title" appeal with those vague interpretations as doom/life, i didnt imagine it at first but it. does make sense! next to doom they are incredibly difficult to analyse, and unlike doom they dont have as much instant appeal (plus the stereotypes of the two aspects can be quite polarizing to character development and sway more nuanced characters) (i would also be interested to see how many purpleblood rage players there are...)
even if its not a noteworthy divide in this sample, i think this sort of analysis into character creation decisions is quite interesting & worth exploring! if not to then go and make the most niche one to feel special... but really it is interesting to see these statistics and what might have led to them being what they are. ohhh i will go on forever i just love this stuff
I was sure Time and Space would dominate as I think in canon there were more of those than any other. That these are considered more important than any other. The results for Time are as expected, but space surprised me.
Yeah, technically Space and Time are the two requirements for a session to begin. Since the Alpha kids were just an extention of the Beta session, they still had Space and Time players with Jade and Dave

What’s worse is that some aspects can be just more important than others. If you want a proper session you need to somehow find someone that has the space aspect without knowing for sure if they’ll have it. Certain aspects are just story crucial and the game of SBURB will fail without them.

As a math-autistic (my highest AP test was a 5 on the statistics AP test) Homestuck who was reading it back when it was still being released in its OG form and experienced/was a fan when many of the events mentioned in the iceberg shown and with homestuck being a special interest of mine, I just want to say kuddos on this school project/vid. I was good on my brain and glad to see a fandom still thrives! wonderful art, editing, and statistical analysis!
I just wanted to say, all of your art and editing look great! What's your fan adventure called? And I hope your teacher gave you a high grade.
It really doesn't matter, but to be pedantic, characters don't only receive aspects or powers after reaching god tier; they have them through the entire story, or at least after starting SBURB. In important moments, characters like John and Terezi used their aspects without god tier, and all characters are influenced by their aspects throughout the story in terms of both personality and their metanarrative arcs. God tier just seems to give control and strength.

I haven't read homestuck, I hated the hell out of stats and failed it once, and I don't understand half of the shit you mentioned, and yet somehow this video was extremely interesting (except for the forced AP stats inclusions of your DF and such) and I genuinely hope to see more of your content in my subscription feed!

Both rage and hope seem to by tied to delusions (apart from jake), and people often like their OC's to have common sense, which is why hope and rage seem to by slightly less popular than the others.
The main doom player (Sollux) is sane (compared to the other trolls), smart and a powerful psychic, which explains why people make doom OC's despite doom not really being explained.
also more likely because of how much people hate Gamzee and Eridan lol (the two main characters of both of these aspects)

this was really interesting!! :D especially with thinking about how when me and my friends made homestuck ocs we got aspects assigned to them through the extended zodiac quiz, which im pretty sure has an uneven distribution of results. (take this with a grain of salt) but im pretty sure ive heard the test is more likely to give you an aspect like time or space, as theyre required for a successful session, while aspects like life and doom are the hardest to get :3 great video!!

seer of doom here ! i used to classpect people but most of them where getting mad at me because i was not giving them their favorite aspect or because some of them where asshole and though i would put them in Lord or muse for some reason (i hate everyone who claim to be Lord or Muse or claim that their OC are Lord or Muse) but yeah,, i think people forget the whole art of classpect just to attribute themselves what they want these day without giving a damn about the whole "growing" thing

Cool! Nice to see a null result when there's so little attention given to studies that fail to disprove the null hypothesis. And seeing as the classpecting community, well, doesn't tend to use much scientific rigor in their analyses... it's a nice change of pace!

This align with extended zodiac. time being the most common to doom. So the results aren't surprising of course most are gonna chose the most and least aspect

My plans for a Homestuck OC would have their aspect be Doom as that's my aspect since I most at home with that. Which is befitting as it's an aspect that doesn't even really get shown off in the comic. So the irony that befalls me is that my aspect is one that suffers the most while suffering from a lack of representation.

I guess the closest I have is my classpect Knight or Prince of Life, I do have OC's but I made 12 troll OCs one for every class and aspect so it doesn't count for "which is more common", I imagine the aspects of the original four John, Rose, Dave and Jade are the most popular, Breath, Light, Time and Space

Great video. I didn't understand half the math in this video (in spite of how math-oriented my high-school years were...) but that was legit interesting. I'm also surprised Hope was at the bottom. Even though Hope is a difficult Aspect to grasp, I'd have expected that the powers we see being used from the two Hope players in canon Homestuck would have at least convinced some people to make their fankid or fantroll Hope-bound.
I wonder how many people classpect their characters from their personality and narrative arc rather than the other way around. I am one of them, but that doesn't say much.
pretty cool stats project! i think maybe it'd be cool to use a webscraper instead to gather the data, so you could get a larger sample with ease but maybe that's just the CS major in me talking

There's an actual order to the aspects, (Which the table is laid out in), but the OC order doesn't match the order and I find the fascinating, plus I believe the 4 most important aspects for a session to be Time, Space, Life and Blood, and while Time is the highest and Life is pretty high, the fact that Space and Blood were in the bottom half was interesting
Edit: I feel like a much larger sample, accounting for people like me, who do sets of 12 characters (1 for each aspect), would be interesting

@@aeterborne Because the blood player is often the leader (see Karkat and Kankri) due to being the aspect which is naturally suited for leadership (due to its link with relationships)

I’m suprised time beat out space considering Space is needed way more than time, time’s inclusion in a session is to act as a failsafe in case of failure while space is what is actually required to succeed

Cool idea to perform statistics on. Though I am now curious what the results for each of the 12 aspects are.
You said Time is the most popular and then breath, so I would imagine the next two popular would be Light and Space as Light's popularity with Rose and Vriska are apparent and the fact that Light is about information so there is a lot of potential you can make with characters who think in terms of Information and Luck and whatnot. And also Space because Space is also required for a Sburb session but also since Space is about creativity and most people who create OCs tend to also be creative types, I would assume there is some bias to assign OCs (And themselves) to the Space aspect. I would figure since I also consider myself a Space-bound, but I am curious what the results of your study were.
