If I were to come to Egypt I see even 500 egyptian pounds worth a 1 hour carriage ride throughout the pyramids. Them asking 200-300 is not too much and is not scamming, even if they would do the same for 100 for their own cousin or friend. Another aspect which many bring up is them "overcharging" tourists.. But you have to remember these people do not have the money to travel the world like the tourists are doing. If you can afford a 15000 egyptian pound plane ticket, but cannot fathom paying more than the poor locals... You are the problem. Let these people eat.

I work at a horse rehab farm and it's insain the amount of work need to properly care for these animals, clean stables every day, cleaning horse shoes, fresh water; thru definely aren't receiving that and it's horrible

As an American, Egyptian history and geology enthusiast, and someone with entrepreneurship on the mind, setting up shop as a tour guide would be a cake walk with these guys as competition. I love the sun, the heat, and teaching people about things I enjoy. Maybe buy a hybrid electric bicycle to pull tour carts instead of animals, lower the overhead a lot. Get buff and tanned and get paid for it all.
I understand they have to make a living somehow, but all that pressure to get you to pay for stuff plus hiking the prices takes away so much from the experience. Hats off to you for standing your ground and doing this solo.

so, let me get this straight or correct me if Im missing something here. Some locals charge 200 EGP ($13 USD or 10.60 EU) for one hour ride. He is only paying 100 EGP. To me, that is very cheap. These people have to feed their families and feed those horses or camels. Maybe I am missing the picture here but, in my opinion, this guy is just being cheap. I wonder if he knows the meaning of (service tip) I doubt it.
Because it costs 50 pounds for locals. Ripping tourists gives a bad impression of Egypt and especially Giza. The scammers are quite hostile towards the more honest working Egyptians and people are kind of forced to have ridiculous prices, which attracts more people to quit their jobs (median salary is quite low compared to developed countries) to do this. Also, many of these scammers treat their animals extremely poorly, as in the video you probably have seen includes a camel screaming in pain. Plus they don't pay taxes, so the government misses put revenue that can be used for school, infrastructure, Healthcare, etc. Even locals say to beware scammers and not use their services, they pocket the money to themselves and hurt the egyptian society in the long run.
I am Egyptian and frankly I watched your vlog about Egypt. If you decide to visit Egypt again and be exposed to the same event, go to the nearest policeman and he will do whatever is necessary to help you. We honorable Egyptians. We are sorry for everything that happened to you,

In the Middle East, it is not bad to give 10% extra to be nice. So, next time agree on a price a bit less than 100...like 75 then leave him 100...that would be nicer...crazy, I know! In Germany it is not common to do that, but sometimes "trinkgeld"

One day all the sand will be removed and then the REAL glory of that place will be seen. There are hundreds of tunnels and shifts all under the Giza plateau. Those pyramids are older that 10,500 years old.

so, let me get this straight or correct me if Im missing something here. Some locals charge 200 EGP ($13 USD or 10.60 EU) for one hour ride. He is only paying 100 EGP. To me, that is very cheap. These people have to feed their families and feed those horses or camels. Maybe I am missing the picture here but, in my opinion, this guy is just being cheap. I wonder if he knows the meaning of (service tip) I doubt it.

Because it costs 50 pounds for locals. Ripping tourists gives a bad impression of Egypt and especially Giza. The scammers are quite hostile towards the more honest working Egyptians and people are kind of forced to have ridiculous prices, which attracts more people to quit their jobs (median salary is quite low compared to developed countries) to do this. Also, many of these scammers treat their animals extremely poorly, as in the video you probably have seen includes a camel screaming in pain.
Plus they don't pay taxes, so the government misses put revenue that can be used for school, infrastructure, Healthcare, etc.
Even locals say to beware scammers and not use their services, they pocket the money to themselves and hurt the egyptian society in the long run.
I am Egyptian and frankly I watched your vlog about Egypt. If you decide to visit Egypt again and be exposed to the same event, go to the nearest policeman and he will do whatever is necessary to help you. We honorable Egyptians. We are sorry for everything that happened to you,

what he was trying to tell you when he "lost you" was that to see the actual treasures (gold etc) you have to go to the museum close to Tahrir square. Bakhshish is tip. In the Middle East, it is not bad to give 10% extra to be nice. So, next time agree on a price a bit less than 100...like 75 then leave him 100...that would be nicer...crazy, I know! In Germany it is not common to do that, but sometimes "trinkgeld"
He agreed on 100 and the guide immediately tried to change it to 400. When that happened, the tip was immediately nullified.
