You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back, and it’s gone so fast
Ooh yeah, it’s gone so fast
So hold one to the ones who really care
In the end they’ll be the only ones there
When you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care?
Can you tell me who will still care?
      Care?
Say oh yeah, and in an mmmbop they’re gone
Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose
You can plant any one of those
Keep planting to find out which one grows
It’s a secret, no one knows
It’s a secret, no one knows
      Knows, no one knows
      Well can you tell me?
Whoa, no you can’t cuz you don’t know
      Can you tell me?
You say you can but you don’t know
      Can you tell me?
No you can’t cuz you don’t know
      Can you tell me?
You say you can but you don’t know
      (Which flower’s gonna grow?)
(Is it gonna be a daisy or a rose?)

Agreed! My first gf I ever had was huge into these guys. Superfan status. She wrote fanfic and all that stuff. Naturally, that's all she really listened to, so I got myself a copy and listened to it quite a bit. She passed away suddenly at 18 with no cause of death ever being found. After hearing the news from a mutual friend, I had to revisit the album from time to time in her memory.

Man, time flies so fast in a twinkling of an eye. We're on time capsule, everybody gets old. Fact of life no one can escape. This Hanson's song I listened in the late 90's such as nostalgic.

Seeing these men grow from the boys everyone knew and still sound like this is kinda haunting. I'm 42 now, have a wee boy of my own and ill show him the original of this song. I'll explain how he can do anything, I'll tell him to enjoy his youth, I'll tell him I'll be there no matter what he decides to do, as long as he isn't wasteful. I didn't have a dad, I'm winging it and can only refer to things like this song from my childhood, as silly as we thought it was back then. But listening with adult ears to what those fresh faced happy little kids were saying back then is poignant as hell. Time shows you that you do indeed only get so many relationships in this life and I can count on one hand which ones lasted. Beautiful song, beautiful message and I look forward to seeing them do the 50th anniversary version!

I always loved this song and even the message about friendship, which ones will last and which ones don't. This came out when many of us here were kids and certain each friend around us would always be in the picture.
Adult me knows the truth behind the song and gets it.
I'm glad we got these guys as part of our childhood. I have always had an appreciation for those who can write songs about something other than love and heartache.
