They lacked credibility because were very young, siblings and all had identical long hair. If a middle aged man with a crap voice had written those verses they would be called a poet.
I still remember the moment I first heard this song. I was at a car repair shop with my parents and this came on on the TV in the waiting room. I got the album for Christmas and listened to it none stop for month!
I am so proud that they didn't turn into washed out teen stars!! Looks like they stayed healthy and level headed through all the money and fame. Good to see :)
No wonder everyone who listened to this when it first came out, immediately had better mental health! The words slap, the tume slaps, and their harmonies slap! I'm an almost 38 year old woman and I remember throughout the years having bad mental health times and I'd think of this sing and blast it on repeat while driving and things didnt seem so bad when I got back home.
I'm so glad I came across a short clip of this today on my Instagram. Incredible they wrote this song as young teenagers. They were way ahead of their time.
They were the 90s equivalent to Bieber, girls loved em and guys hated them. But now I've grown into a man I can see there is a huge musical difference in comparison. They are actually talented...
Hear hear! I'm 35, and I have to tell you, once I hit my 30s, my music taste just kinda exploded. I am going back to old favorites (like Hanson!!!), but finding new things, and it is wonderful! No more feeling like I have to fit in and like what everyone else likes.
Unlike so many of the pop "artists" manufactured and marketed primarily for consumption by teenage girls, Hanson have always been a real rock 'n' roll band who play their own instruments and write their own original songs. Despite having continued to tour and release fantastic albums over the years since their "Mmmbop" days, the band does not receive as much exposure and publicity as they once did and still rightfully deserve because in order to maintain their artistic integrity they decided to part ways with the major record labels in the early 2000's. I am an adult male rock music fanatic (classic/indie/modern/progressive), and I am not embarrassed to admit that I have gone to see them perform live in concert multiple times since 2003. Every tour, they have consistently put on a great live show.
This makes me miss my sister so much she thought Isaac was so cute. June 20th it'll be 12 years since we lost her to colon cancer at 45, she was the best big sister ever. Now I'm 49 4 years older than she was when she left us and hearing this song breaks my heart in the best ways

I never gave these guys the credit they deserved when they first came out. Nowadays I realize how actually good the songs were, and how talented of musicians they always were. Hindsight is 20/20, and now I’m 38 and can admit my mistake.
SAME! I'm 37 and i still rock everything 90's as 99% of music today is cookie cutter trash. I bopped to this, hell i bopped to Back Street Boys and Britney Spears... i also rocked Korn, Manson, Limp Bizket, Metallica. I find the the 90's is a genre in itself, just a mix of everything good 😁

People can laugh or take the piss all they like but this song took them all around the world!!! And the harmonies are fuckin crazy, only brothers can sound like this...brilliant version of the song
I'm glad that "The Masked Singer" might get these very talented men the re-exposure they deserve. Of course MMMBop was sticky sweet bubblegum, but if anyone took a second back in '96 to look a little deeper, you would realize that they have a lot more in common with the Jackson 5 and the Beatles than Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees. I've always been on the lookout for hooks and harmonies, and even though I'm more of a metal guy, I would stand tall in front of my fellow rivet heads and tell them that talent is talent, and they need to open their eyes. Proud fan in my mid 40's. Go Russian Dolls... get out there, slay the rest of the posers and win this thing.
I never understood this song when I was a kid and thought it was nonsense, though it has a catchy beat. But 24 years later when life hit and I lost family members and people I love, this songs hits so damn hard and actually got me emotional. Whoever you are, always appreciate the people you have. It was a hit back then, but the lyrics do
Really make sense now that we are older
I'm not a teenage girl, but lord have mercy, I love these harmonies. Those boys have the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.
They're in their 30s, now, so.... :) I agree, they are awesome!
Fifi Aames I'm jjj
Fifi Aames jjjj
No lie, these guys can sing GREAT ! MUCH better than anything on the radio now !
Kathryn Poole Ed sheeran should join with them and Andrea bocelli
Outstanding. I am 63 and I still groove to Hanson. MMMBop still gets me going. Love these boys, and have watched them grown from kids into men who really love each other.
Kathy Welcome I'm 51 and a fan too!!
Those harmonies are absolutely amazing.
This is their best live version without a doubt.
Talented brothers - love the tight harmonies that sharing a gene pool can create!
Peter McD yes this!!
Makes me wish me and my 3 sisters had practiced a little harder in high school choir 😝
Never underestimate Hanson. These guys had kept evolving their harmony and structure of their songs as they had different voices when they were kids.
People made fun of these guys but honestly, could those people who made fun sing and harmonize like that? What was their talent? Not a damn thing. These guys are very talented and glad to se they still entertain. They are very good at that.
Sung Yul Taylor Well Said Love These Guys
no kidding. these three were always incredibly talented. and they’re not full of themselves at all. as a professional musician myself, i have the utmost respect for them. maybe i’ll be that good someday. :)
I love your comment
Absolutely out of this world talented. No filter, no backup tape. This is incredibly just raw and live!
I'm a 55 year old man , and this sounds quality, if they ever come to the UK I would be there, brilliant
Listen to their later albums and you’ll realize how truly talented and amazing they are. So underrated as they came into their adult voices.
100% agree, fantastic songs later on. I like that they still clearly love playing this song still after 25 years
Agreed. They just came in at a rough time, having to compete with so much. But still an amazing group.
Why is this is so addictive to listen to!!
These guys prove that their talent was more then a famous pop song, pure talent pure musicians. Pleasure to listen to.
The harmonies are insane.. It's clear they have been singing together their entire lives.
Wow! The harmony...
This song sounds better sung in their adult voices - the harmonies have more depth. Gorgeous earworm song all around :)
When they first came out my friends and I all said "She's hot!" Then we found out they were all brothers. We never spoke of it again.
Jason Jaeger 🤣
😂
Jason Jaeger HAAA
Just say no homo, works every time
🤣🤣🤣
They NEED to release this as a single... I'm in love with it and them... 😍💐
you can get this live version on itunes.
pretty sure they did that already...in 1996.
I meant the acoustic version, smart arse... 😕😷
+Billi Detheridge they've made many acoustic versions of this song and many others...
This version is on iTunes and another version they released in 2005, but this ones the best! They do it acoustically every tour! 😃👍🏼
I'm so glad I came across a short clip of this today on my Instagram. Incredible they wrote this song as young teenagers. They were way ahead of their time.
Me too. I had to listen to the full version.
For some reason, I really love and appreciate this song now.
That’s how I found myself here as well! Great song!
Me three!!! I just saw the video on IG!!!❤❤❤
Was 10 when I first heard this back in 1997. 20 years later I'm still loving it. This song will never grow old and is still fresh to my heart.
same mate and same years 🖤
I’m 142 years old and I still listen to this because it reminds me of being a kid
Can't say i'm a massive fan of Hanson, but I saw a clip for this on a friends Facebook feed and have to say, it's an awesome performance!
I miss the ‘90’s, especially when roller blading to this song was cool.
I did the same to thing song!! 😂
They were the 90s equivalent to Bieber, girls loved em and guys hated them. But now I've grown into a man I can see there is a huge musical difference in comparison. They are actually talented...
I was just thinking the same thing.
I feel like I've found solace with you guys... Being 30 rules, you can like what you want free of judgement!
Hear hear! I'm 35, and I have to tell you, once I hit my 30s, my music taste just kinda exploded. I am going back to old favorites (like Hanson!!!), but finding new things, and it is wonderful! No more feeling like I have to fit in and like what everyone else likes.
This comment should be top, Amen.
Puberty,
you have done it again.
20 years later the only words I know are mmmbop
I’m pretty sure I caught a “yesterday” in the beginning.
mmmbopbadoobadopbadoobopbadoobadopbadoobopbadoo yeah yeah
Plant a seed plant a flower plant a rose
I sing what I want
That’s kind of sad.
This makes me miss my sister so much she thought Isaac was so cute. June 20th it'll be 12 years since we lost her to colon cancer at 45, she was the best big sister ever. Now I'm 49 4 years older than she was when she left us and hearing this song breaks my heart in the best ways
❤
This is absolutely incredible. Could bring a grown man to tears.
As someone who grew up in the 90s, I feel young again listening to this stunning version! Thank you Hanson!!
Stephen Baldwin, Nico Rosberg and George of the jungle... the trio you never knew you needed!
50 year old woman here. Love this song 4ever❤
I'll be 35 this month! I still love this song! Can't believe it's turning 28 this year!
They were so young when this song came out that twenty years later they are still young.
Imagine UB-40 covering this. Or any reggae group.
Hard to believe that three kids from Oklahoma came up with this in their living room.
unbelievable sound from these guys and this is coming from someone who absolutely hated hanson as a teenager. Now im 33 and im singing along, my toddler is dancing to it and fiance thinks ive gone crazy.
Got me in tears listening to this... remembering the fantastic days of my youth!!
Thank you Hansen! Still incredibly talented musicians.
Love this song!!❤
They do those harmonies in PERFECT PITCH... Amazing.
I never gave these guys the credit they deserved when they first came out. Nowadays I realize how actually good the songs were, and how talented of musicians they always were. Hindsight is 20/20, and now I’m 38 and can admit my mistake.
Also 38 here and my same exact same thoughts
Brings back the times, sitting in my friends basement watching much music tv. How I long for those years. I’m in my late 30s now
SAME! I'm 37 and i still rock everything 90's as 99% of music today is cookie cutter trash. I bopped to this, hell i bopped to Back Street Boys and Britney Spears... i also rocked Korn, Manson, Limp Bizket, Metallica. I find the the 90's is a genre in itself, just a mix of everything good 😁
Can’t beat the grunge
@@billbaker7358 Yea i love me some Greenday, Silverchair, Foo Fighters, Sound Garden and Smashing Pumpkins and who doesn't like Nirvana... i feel like making a playlist now and going down the rabbit hole 😎
I’ll be sitting here on the couch tonight with a cold beer listening to nirvana. Thanks a lot
@@billbaker7358 Cheers 🍻
As a kid I couldn't stand this song. As an adult (and them now adults themselves) I appreciate and enjoy it a lot more. Can't get enough of it. The message, the harmonies, the song structure. Hanson is just one of those greatly underappreciated groups for sure.
I saw just a one minute clip of this on my news feed so I had to come find the full version. Thank you so much for uploading this. So many memories!!
me too! 😀
Me too!
Me too!! Does anyone know where I can buy this version ???
People can laugh or take the piss all they like but this song took them all around the world!!! And the harmonies are fuckin crazy, only brothers can sound like this...brilliant version of the song
I was in the 6th grade when this came out. Now im 31. Damn how time flies.
Hnub Yaj same!!
like nooo way you were in 6th grade? like shut upP!!!
On the same boat pal
same here
Same here. This song came out in '97 I was in 4th grade.
Every lil bro with an older sister that grew up in the 90s knows this song by heart.
They sound incredible. A song that was #1 in 25+ countries all at the same time? Wrote their own music, lyrics, and played their own instruments? WOW.
Tell your loved ones you love them. One day you'll wake up and they won't be there anymore.
