This Was the FIRST Minecraft Glass Texture…?

- Minecraft version 0.0.19a is a documented lost Minecraft version from the early days of Minecraft classic. However, what you may not have known, is that this version contained the very first Minecraft glass texture in minecraft history, which was an icy blue color. This version was never released outside of an IRC log on June 19 2009, and luckily, someone named greenslimy had taken a video of that fateful day. This is the story of Minecraft's oldest glass texture, and how it was dug up after 14 years of being lost.

If we had gotten the blue texture seen in that c0.0.19a dev version that looks like ice I wouldn’t have been very happy
i love these omniarchive tales, nobody's really done anything like this yet on youtube. it'd be nice to see you keep it up
Was ice even a thing in those days? It's pretty funny to think every time you look at ice now you're technically looking at the original glass texture.
Not then until infdev
Nope, ice was added in alpha - and technically it isn't the exact same texture
Watching that GreenSlimy video hit me with a hammer of nostalgia, back before I could convince my grandmother to buy me Minecraft, building underwater bubble networks with Sponges in the Web Version of Minecraft Classic back when that was still a thing.
It actually is still a thing! Back when Minecraft had it's 10 year anniversary, Mojang brought back the old In-Browser Minecraft version!
I can't seem to post the link but it's still up! If you Google "Minecraft Classic" it should appear as the top result.
The 1.0 glass was weirdly nostalgic for me. Probably because I only used to play P.E and Minecraft P.E used to be very behind on updates, so there wasn't many blocks. So glass played a large part in every structure/house I built. Great times 💯🙏
love the in-between texture between the retired 10 year glass and the original ice block glass.
Killing it with this content lately man. Keep it up!
love these videos! it would be cool to see you do a video on old obscure minecraft rumors
that would be a really cool topic. got any in mind?
Wait. Did glass get a new texture in 1.14? Ahh... yes I play with the good old classic textures, so I've missed that update.
The less transparent glass makes more sense.
If you've ever seen old windows, the glass can be wavy.
How would Steve be able to make almost perfectly transparent glass?
I also just think the old texture looks better.
I don't know about liking the old texture more than the new one. My only beef with the old texture is that it can be hard to see through. It still is a good texture though.
People don't care much about realism or what makes sense, but you can prefer whatever you like ofc. I think most prefer the newer glass textures just because they're nicer on the eye, you can just see through windows easier and from further away, and connected textures mod/optifine grants even more visibility through huge glass structures or farms.
Hi Ryan, man who would’ve guessed that Minecraft GLASS could have lore
Let's go more videos!! Can't wait for the next episode pf Extreme Makeover Pond Edition
Blue glass that looks like ice, and transparent glass that looks like shattered glass
the classic sponge texture we all knew and loved and wished for in survival ;(
One thing you didn't mention which is really cool is the amount of people who owned/bought the game at the time at the top of the video.
pre 1.14 glass textures looked less like a gird the farther you were away while the post .14 textures did the exact opposite
Love your content 😎👍
Cool video i really want to see the next minecraft better then adventure live stream🎉
0:28 Or be like someone like me who mainly rather uses the Developer Art with Dev Art+ ever since 1.14 (or any texture pack all your Minecraft life) and somehow get so used to it thinking the modern textures are still not the norm...
Crazy how people can find this
Good video!
this was so interesting!
but you just showed that the second glass texture lasted for 10 minutes so how the first texture could be the shortest lived texture?
I kind of misrepresented what I meant by that - the second glass texture that lasted 10 minutes wasn't isolated to this version, Notch had created it well before June 19 and tested it in development builds. It was already teased and made public before this. The icy blue texture was created, tested, released, and made obsolete all in the same day.
Ironically the first official glass texture that looks like ice actually looks BETTER than the ice textures we would end up with, because ice in game looks very blue while that first ice texture looked more white-ish and lighter, making for a more realistic ice.
I honestly think the glass texture that came in 1.14 is one of the worse textures in the game. I like the old one way better.
I kinda like the old better bth
Interesting
id like to know what screen recorder he uses because obs wont work for me anymore v.v
OBS! try running it as administrator every time. I used to have issues with it until I started doing that.
ok ill try that!@@PaladinRyan
Nope still crashes v.v
