I remember these 3 mods that added the Engineer buildings from Team Fortress 2 by pitman-87. There were sentry guns that you could configure exactly what mobs it would target; dispensers that would heal you, restore hunger, and repair tools at the cost of materials; and teleporters that could take you from point to the next and back again.
Idk if anyone remembers this mod, but it was like a Pandora’s box and the world would get slowly hotter and hotter, with the grass dying, then oceans drying, then trees setting on fire, then you being set on fire if you were outside while the sun way out, until finally lava starts raining down from the sky and you’re forced to go underground.
I love how old mods had this, "let's do it because we can" mentality to them. People didn't care if the mod fit with the vanilla game because people wanted to push the boundary, and I miss that nostalgic feeling. Now days all the mods want to be vanilla friendly which is nice and I understand why people like that, but I will always miss that feeling of, "fuck it just do some weird stuff"
Here's a few mods I used to enjoy: 1. Millenaire mod, the mod with fleshed out villages and accompanying villagers from different ancient cultures. Always nostalgic seeing this one for me. 2. Clay soldiers mod. Enough said. 3. This is a bit of a combo. There was a mod called the Gulliver mod that allowed you to become smaller or larger. Pairing that with the Little Blocks mod made it so you can have entire towns on just a few blocks. Really cool back in the day.
11:00 Yes flans mod is still active, a good flans mod server that's usually up every now and then is Tyrants and Plebians, which is an amazing server taht uses a heavily modified version of flans mod.
Evil Minecraft really was an amazing experience. I believe it even contained the first rendition of 3D items object in minecraft before being added officially into the game.
Correct, even the blocks had a quite unique way of being destroyed in a sort of a 3D animation. Never seen such a comprehensive vanilla feeling mod since then. I might still have a copy of the mod on an old laptop, hopefully to try and run it successfully.
I think that MCHeli deserves to be in one of these videos. Originally it was a port of a Japanese mod and added insanely realistic aircraft into the game but it never got updated to later versions and the original Japanese mod no longer exists.
MC heli is my childhood, I remember playing with many military aircraft, helicopters, and turrets in creative mode. From small to giant aircraft, even bombing/destroying the village with small to giant aircraft. Very sad the people behind this mod are abandon his/her own creation, and unfortunately I heard the mod itself are closed source meaning it's kinda impossible we can get fan port for 1.12.2 or above.
I think Thaumcraft would fit one of those lists. The original one, not Thaumcraft 2, the most annoying yet very fun and interesting mod I used to play and it was in almost every single modpack back then
Of these mods, the ones that I remember using were flans and twighlight forest. Twilight forest was really cool but it tended to be pretty laggy in my LAN coop so we got rid of it after a few save files, the uncrafing table was pretty powerful too, letting you trade levels for diamonds by disassembling tools found or purchased from villagers. I remember using flan's mod back in the day, that was fantastic. A buddy and I had a war on a flat land world fighting in and around a village, doing infantry duels, dogfights, causing mayhem to the villagers via air raids and we crashed the game by hitting 2 tank shells against eachother. That mod was also very helpful as back then there was no village trading put the guns were so strong with decent control of the ww2 guns you could kill an iron golem and creeper in the same mag and have material to make multiple mags from that, the planes were also really good for getting around
Flan's mod is what started a modded serie by my french favorite UA-camr AznDark (who still do modded MC to the day) called Fly for Flan's, it's a massive modded serie that focus around Flan's mod and other mods(exept for season 6 who had tech gun instead) , also what I liked is that the season 3 introduced a lore and some story "cutscene" before the gameplay start, with Morph mod But the serie stopped since and he said he will continue the serie with season 8 on Hytale
I think the modding classical age was somewhere between 1.1 and 1.3, then after 1.3 there are the middle ages, then 1.6 births the golden age. After that there is the forgotten period and with 1.12 came the reinessance. Of course that was short lived with another dark age, until 1.16. That brought the second reinessance and then came the enlightenment with 1.19 making a completely new era for mods which are crazy nowadays.
I can’t even calculate how much hours i spent on watching the spider queen mod, it was so cool to be able to have different kind of spiders and just make a army. Sadly back then I didn’t have minecraft myself so i could play it.
Its still around Search up tyrants and plebeians Or Art of War The community of the mod is what kept it alive There is much more content you cant get in the regular Flans mod or the content packs
Seeing this video reminded me of the Orespawn mod. That was the PEAK of my early Minecraft days. I only got to see it on UA-cam since I never knew how to install mods back then.
about flans mod, one server in particular is still doing very well and that is Tyrants and Plebeians, which had their WW2 event a couple months ago with hundreds of people on several different teams fighting over land in a heavily modded world map with realistic industry and fighting.
i dont know if this counts but legend of the notch was one of my favorite mods ever i revist it yearly to try and beat it it comes with a map and everything i really hope they bring it back one day
id love to see the invasion mod covered here. it added some really smart and dangerous mobs to the game with a tower defense element which was super cool to see but sadly has been entirely forgotten since then
@benderman2468 basically, you'd have to inject the mod files directly into the game files as if they were vanilla assets and for that to work META-INF had to be deleted/replaced
All of the old Thaumcraft versions, 1 through 6, would be cool to see. My version of choice was Thaumcraft 4, but iirc every version was wildly different from the previous or succeeding versions.
Flan’s Mod actually has a continuation called Flan’s Mod:Reloaded from what I checked out there aren’t any weapons it adds on its own but it does allow other mods to make weapons.
Witchery and Mob Talker. One let you enjoy all the fun and mischief of being a classic witch and the other launched basically all the anime style art we know today.
Wanted to say I love your videos and I think your style of covering the old content does it great justice! Dynamic movement I think it was called, you could crawl through one slot spaces and it added new swimming mechanics with Diving off cliffs as well as the ability to grab onto the ledge of blocks for better overall parkour and player movement, I remember loving this mod so much as a kid. I remember it being a bit difficult to get compatible with other mods which is why it didn’t get as much coverage or praise, I also believe running and new underwater swimming came not long after in the main game which probably caused this mod to suffer the same fate as others you’ve covered in this series
maybe not underrated, but certainly forgotten; Witchery. It was in so many 1.7 packs, but seemingly hasnt been updated since. It was on of the first really huge gameplay mods that didnt veer into tech and automation that i can remember in my 12 or so years of playing minecraft, and i'd love if to see it in the spotlight. Especially for how it changed villages
For the horse mod! The creator of it was asked by Mojang if they could use his models and some of the code and they told Mojang that they could and you can even see them in the credits of the game! :D
Trains and zepplin mod (it was renamed to traincraft later on) is hella nostalgic. Hell i remember the hype when they where able to add coupling so you could make an actual train consist
I really love mc mods, and I also love to see the evolution of mods, the first mods just being more like plugins, and now there are mods that could be a minecraft update, like alex's caves. Great video ryan, I hope you continue with series!
gotta say, from every single one here, evil minecraft had the most potential, at first it had a lot of features notch/mojang couldnt add first like dirt/grass slabs to terrain and pigmen, and also things that wouldve spiced up the game by a lot like playable races, its so vanilla+ yet so unique, now there are things added that are just very peculiar like wizard and lizards, but i feel like if it kept more vanilla+ and closer to what minecraft was back in beta (and even early release) it couldve been much more memorable, and 100% an incredible way to play minecraft, imagine if all the races were a non aggressive version of minecraft monsters like skeletons and creepers, or anthro versions of passives (like pigmen/piglins), it wouldve been so cool suprised nobody tried to do something similar to that to old versions or even modern minecraft
Who's remember Lycanite's Mobs, that oddly mod for monsters from Doom or from somewhere yet? And also Techhguns, added weapons from many of FPS shooters.
Since we're talking about Minecraft nostolgia, there was this one old Minecraft modded lets play, from between 2011-2012, that i cannot find for the life or me. I just remember that he had a base that was a cave inside a mountain, a mod that added alien guns, some weird arena made with leaf blocks, and it ended with him "dying" in a plane crash, which i think was Zeppelin's but it could've been something else. I hope ill be able to rewatch it one day.
@mashedpotato7219 I appreciate the suggestion, but it definitely wasn't that. I'm almost certain that the series at least started before 2013, and the terrain and mod list was different too. Definitely had less technical mods (unless you're talking about a different series Ssunde made)
@TRDario You are a God damn legend. This has been living rent free in my head for the last 12 years, the worst part is that I've seen his channel before when I was looking for it but completely overlooked it. One of the very first mods I've got into as a kid was Lycanites Mobs (now Schism) it was probably one of the easiest mods for me to adjust to your play-style and had some tools to allow you to add onto some of the content it had to offer. I understand that it sort fo resurfaced due to RLcraft, but kind of phased out after RLcraft died down in popularity, would love to see it mentioned even though it may not be so applicable to your search in finding underrated and forgotten mods.
i remember , Better Than Wolves, Biospheres, Fossils and Archeology, Beekeeping Mod by Nandonalt, Painterly resource pack, Magic woods (?,) Fairies mod.... I mostly got into modding from yogscast and the pack you could download from them was often the highlight of my childhood MC saves lol.
Flans mod.. man, what a legendary mod! When it was released firstly, it was shockingly ambitious due to content packs about guns, vehicles, robots, armour and even robots! Yeah, I still remember when I couldn't install it correctly for 1.7.2 and played without guns, but later fixed and I was the happiest man ever! First experience is always sweet
Its still around Search up tyrants and plebeians Or Art of War or monorisu channel The community of the mod is what kept it alive There is much more content you cant get in the regular Flans mod or the content packs Ur welcome to join the community if u want
There's a download link for Evil Minecraft 1.2.5 floating around, but I imagine any versions earlier than that are completely gone. Having been reminded of it, I tracked it down and managed to get it booting -- the instructions required manually installing it into a jar file though. Thanks for reminding me about it
Good video and thank you for bringing all this nostalgia from modded minecraft, because I am sure that many of us feel pretty joyful after reopening those forgotten memories of classic minecraft. On the other hand, I don't want to spread the negativity, but I gotta just add that, inclusion of Twilight Forest into video about forgotten mods even with your justification isn't really fitting. Like okay, I get it, time frame in which it came out wasn't really perfect, but even then it was popping of on UA-cam and because it was just released, you can't say that it was "forgotten" for that time. So yeah, you can always use some of community suggestions and my recommendations for next video are ForceCraft (AKA DartCraft), BuildCraft, ProjectRed or HBM Nuclear Tech for mods very popular at their peak, but yet almost tottaly forgotten mods nowdays.
I think that throwing bricks is built in supplementary or immersive weathering now, idk wich but one of them at least, I'v seen it in a modpack recently
If i remember correctly throwable bricks can be found in supplementaries mod for more modern versions of minecraft. Im using this mod in my modpack and while i was setting things up its come up to this mod and i think i've seen that options in its configs (1.19.2 - forge)
There are definitely ways of expanding Simply horses, Focus on Carts. Make villagers use horee to make bigger farms and collect crops, add farming tools thay are strap to horses and donkeys
Tropicraft should absolutely be in the next one if you're planning a next one lol aether is an amazing dimension mod but the vibes tropicraft gave were top notch
I'm pretty sure Notch asked permission to use code from Simply Horses to make the vanilla horse, so no stealing happened. I could be wrong though. Good video though!
The death of all the classic mods are 1.7 means the market for mods severely went down. If Minecraft ever wants to recover their popularity, they need to focus on making it easier to make mods and help mod creators in hopes that they can revive the modding community
I always did want to try multiplayer survival with rival rebels but evidently having the recipe to a nuclear bomb be comprised of all but cobblestone makes for overuse of nuclear strikes
Anyone remember a civilization mod that added big Mayan city's or something similar and you could trade and talk with the NPCs? I've looked all over for it but I've never found it and it seems like a fever dream.
Found this video by searching for a spider queen remake, only to have my heart broken once again. It used to be my all-time favorite mod, and after it's abandonment yet again, I've almost given up hope for a revival/remake. Playing it in modern versions with stuff like create, ars nouveau, and ice&fire would be a magical experience. Is it too much to ask to be a clockwork spider witch?
I don’t know if those mods are forgotten, but some suggestions are fossil and archaeology, Millénaire, the old slenderman mod and the old alien vs predator mod.
the guys who made the simply horses mod was asked by notch if his mod could be put in the game. he agreed, and his name is in the end credits to this day. (at least that's what i've heard)
what was your favorite old mod back in the day?
Even tough i didn't play bock in the day, i think the biospheres mod could be a famous challenge map, like skyblock
It's called legacy edition
Idk it may help
It's from the official mod wiki
Wasn’t mo creatures what inspired mojang to add horses? Even the creator of the mod worked with mojang apparently
That is true
Yep! They even got him at Mojang so he could help implement it.

me too, its in the process of beein ported to newer versions like flans mod
God the biospheres where so cool.
Just playing in an orb was sick as can be.
i remember , Better Than Wolves, Biospheres, Fossils and Archeology, Beekeeping Mod by Nandonalt, Painterly resource pack, Magic woods (?,) Fairies mod.... I mostly got into modding from yogscast and the pack you could download from them was often the highlight of my childhood MC saves lol.
I will always miss how many resource packs were availabe compared to now. So much more to make, it makes sense.
I totally forgot about Rival Rebels
Dude I used to love Spider-Queen. Must be my top 3 most played mods.
didn't think I'd be waking up today and seeing footage from an old skydoesminecraft mod review.. damn
Flans was one of my favorites alongside this fallout inspired post nuclear apocolypse texture/resource pack. those go well together
Nostalgic mods I remember from 1.5.2:
- Better Dungeons
- Crayfish's Furniture
- Jammy Furniture
- Diamond Meter.
Flans mod.. man, what a legendary mod!
Its still around
Search up tyrants and plebeians
Or Art of War or monorisu channel
The community of the mod is what kept it alive
There is much more content you cant get in the regular Flans mod or the content packs
Ur welcome to join the community if u want
Rival Rebels is still one of the best pvp and gun mod to this day, honestly.
I love how there are so many mods that add in high tech or fantasy elements and the last one is just
B R I C K
Please do a review on Better Than Wolves! It’s sooo good!!
The Hardcore End was a good one. Hardcore End: Reborn is still in development.
I miss spider queen so much. Tbone's series on it got me into modded minecraft
Being a fan of Rival Rebel’s, I’ve had a lot of fun with it’s spiritual successor HBM nuclear tech mod for 1.16
If you make another vid on this topic please include the Millenaire mod! it was one of my favorite mods back in the day and just seemed so in depth.
If i remember correctly throwable bricks can be found in supplementaries mod for more modern versions of minecraft. Im using this mod in my modpack and while i was setting things up its come up to this mod and i think i've seen that options in its configs (1.19.2 - forge)
holy fuck biospheres just brought me back my god the nostalgia
❤
I should really update Modern Biospheres...
ngl would love for a spider queen mod but like something diffrant called "monster queen/king" like one where you can chose a mob to play as
There are definitely ways of expanding Simply horses, Focus on Carts. Make villagers use horee to make bigger farms and collect crops, add farming tools thay are strap to horses and donkeys
I know 1
Solar apocalypse mod I played the og version there is a fan updated version called solar apocalypse refabricated.
Tropicraft should absolutely be in the next one if you're planning a next one lol aether is an amazing dimension mod but the vibes tropicraft gave were top notch
Mo creatures is so nostalgic to me, i remember watching my favorite youtubre back in the day and spending hours watching he tame the animals, Hi Ryan
ohhh i miss spider queen so much... i adored playing it :'o}
curious fact, mo'creatures had horses as well and the lead dev for more creature actually worked on vanilla horses
God I missed the “Spider Queen” mod, it was really good
Rival Rebels, such a classic!
Oh another good one was ore spawn mod sad to see how that one ended
The gray goo mod reminds me a lot of Conway's Game of Life.
YES! FLAN'S MOD!
Millenaire, Tektopia, Sim-U-Kraft, Lycanites Mobs, Grimoire of Gaia
"Oh boy, minecraft is sure acting real funny right now. Was there a new update?"
Evil Notch (he made my game Evil Minecraft):
I'm pretty sure Notch asked permission to use code from Simply Horses to make the vanilla horse, so no stealing happened. I could be wrong though. Good video though!
Does anyone else remember the tropicraft mod?? Something about it just makes me love it
The death of all the classic mods are 1.7 means the market for mods severely went down.
Twilight forest is probably the best exploration based mod ever made in MC.
Anyone remember a civilization mod that added big Mayan city's or something similar and you could trade and talk with the NPCs? I've looked all over for it but I've never found it and it seems like a fever dream.
I think it's called Millenaire! If you haven't found it yet! (One of my favorites!)
R.I.P. Engineer's Toolbox by Emasher (and gascraft with it)
the guys who made the simply horses mod was asked by notch if his mod could be put in the game. he agreed, and his name is in the end credits to this day. (at least that's what i've heard)
Hi! I'm the author of Modern Biospheres. ^^
I appreciate the feature!
I thought nobody was interested.. 😢
