It's actually easy, people just over-think the heck out of it. There's many ways to get into 'mixed voice'. If you need more help, contact me at my website: www.rachelgerrard.com
If sufficiently developed, is it safe to sing in this mix all the time, as opposed to going into head voice? It took me a year to learn the coordination well enough, to where I can take that mix about as high as I want. When I first started out with it there was always a ceiling.
Definitely - I think mix voice is more related to the head voice than to the chest voice. It’s way better for the voice than a weak or airy head voice, and you can start to open up the vowels and add more variety of tone after a while without it “flipping”.
What the hell does mixed voice mean to you? No, really, mixed voice (if you're talking about the combination of TA & CT engagement simultaneously, then it should not exist according to all the several Otorhinolaryngologists I talked to). If you're talking about a resonance thing, well that's a whole different story...

Sounds like chest voice to me - totally appropriate for the genre, no need to change anything!
