- Hi guys. Today I'll compare 2 of my retro emulators. The R36S with ArkOS vs the Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS. Are they any good to play Nintendo DS games? Let's find out!

You can activate the quick mode in R36S. Saves where you ended the last game, shuts down the console and if you start again you are where you left. It’s not even starting the main screen, you jump right into the last played game.
Really? I'm gonna look that up for sure because it takes years for me to get back to the game I last played
@@thatssovert Jup. Just look for "enable quick mode r36s" and you should finde something. Its quite simple and works great
Yeah but why would you want to? The controls on the R36S handheld are worse than having arthritis
Wait until more wizardry comes to onionOS and brings 60fps to most DS games. The community is just insane, because the device is loved.
There is an hardware limit not software limit about the 60fps.
Even wizard can't overcome the hardware limit of mm+
Can't wait for the Flip to come out someday, I really want something that's as powerful as the R36S and beyond, with the portability of the Miyoo and, the community behind it!

Difference is, the build quality
Miyoo Mini Plus can last you years upon years with how well-made the handheld is
Whereas I would be dammed if the R36S lasts more than 2 years for the average person
And nowadays the Miyoo Mini Plus is barely more expensive, it used to be a $30-40 dollar difference but now it's only $5-10 dollars more
Which is the better build quality? Unfortunately my previous retro handheld developed vertical lines on the screen

Same DS experience with the powkidddy X55 ... you cant do screen overlay... and having 2 screens t the same time kill a lot of screen realstate... I hope someone can find a way to do the overlay... X55 is extremely confortable.

I had the mm+ since last year, but was amazing. One of the best vertical handheld I've ever had. Then got r36s this year for almost half the price, and it blows mm+ out of the water. The speaker, analog, screen and comfortability just trumps mm+. But mm+ has better controls, better software, smaller, and community destroys r36s support. But I still prefer r36s with updated arkos and modded buttons.
It's weird how they managed to deliver so much with such a low price
There's actually a pretty decent community growing up around the r36s. Plus almost everything from the previous r35 is relevant too

@@LN7747 they're both made well, but r36s feels more durable. The membranes are very hard though.
can you not install onion os on the r36s to fix the software issues if it affects you so much?
also you can soften the dpad just by a little DIY you can eaisly find it on yt

As far as I know you can't install Onion OS on the R36S.

You're the first youtuber mention about the right joystick and camera angle using shoulder button. Honestly i thought the joystick for move and camera angle for some game. Kinda sad coz I've been doing a lot of research for satisfied myself.

It depends on the game! I wish Spyro had the camera angle function assigned to the right joystick but it's the shoulder buttons. But I'm sure there are PS1 games where you can rotate the camera with the joystick, it's just not all that common
I'm going to try some mods on my R36S, try a way to make the triggers silent and install a vibration motor.
Shoulder button fix with a cut sponge and isolation tape works fine.
Both are good, just got the r36s and am not going back to MM+

If you get a Miyoo Mini Plus install Onion OS, then you will have a fun time
But personally both of these handhelds are going to suck if you're only interested in DS games.. They aren't dual displays so it's really difficult to play DS games as most require use of both screens.. It's more of just an added bonus more than anything
So if that's the only reason why you want one of these handhelds to just play the DS Pokémon games, then just buy & easily mod a DS lite

If i want to save my Progress in a nds Game on my mm+ , i Only get a Black Screen after that ans cant start the Game , even If i restart everything. Theo Game will be Only a Black Screen.

the R36S shoulder buttons are annoyingly load. You can't use them in bed if someone next to you is sleeping lol

@@thatssovert but to be honest. For $37, it’s worth it. I was able to pay this on sale and it runs some dreamcast and n64 games
Open back (6 screws), cut a kitchen sponge, isolation tape it, put it between buttons and triggers - problem solved. Needs a little trying around but worked perfectly for me.

@@arlokkkk doing so you can also fix the digi pad very simple. Just loosen the correct screw a little. Just look it up, its easy

Really? Dude unfortunately I have no clue. Have you tried reinstalling Onion OS or updating it to a new version? Or reinstalling Drastic if you've installed it by yourself
@@thatssovert so I bought a memory card off Etsy. The guy downloaded every game on it with the latest update of onion I guess and drastic but I’m gonna format the memory card and re-download the games again you win you lose some. It was good at first, but ended up messing up after a few few days.
Maybe you check update of Onion OS because your drastic has maybe bug or your file nds incorrectly.
I already test many games nds are work well on miyoo mini plus with 4.3.0 RC Onion OS. (Also Onion 4.3.0 RC has available NDS emulator)

Hello. Can you tell me (how do a video) how to save a game with R36S please ? I don't know if I do this correctly because I have a freeze "0% save statut" and nothing is saved ... :(
Really? That's so weird! Usually pressing R3 brings you to the savestate menu.

Nothing happens. I do "select" + "X", select a slot, and "save game". I valid with the "A" button ... and no save ...
Meh...a retro console for me goes from Atari to Ps1, anything above that I buy the specific system to play the game or emulate on my Laptop
Apparently it's recommended to put the r36s into sleep mode, that way, it can resume the game instantly, and only turning it off if you are going to stop playing for a while.

How are you able to turn off miyoo mini plus in the middle of a DS session? It crashes my game if i do this for some reason..
Make sure you're using the native Drastic version, install Onion OS 4.3 BETA
The side (or back) buttons on the R36s are garbage. The material is a rigid plastic that makes them sound horrible, generating an internal echo. The ones on the miyoo mini have a rubber coating added to a lace which makes them much more premium.
Possibly the rear buttons of the r36s are among the worst that have been on any console throughout history.
The better solution if you are really into ds games? Buy a DS 😅
Exactly, DS games on both of these handhelds aren't ideal at all and it's really just an added bonus on top of playing retro games
