Yeah, loveweb or at least the character Manon seems to really see 4chan in a rose-tinted lens rather than be honest about the more displeasing reality. Especially when Manon goes in about how "4chan and anonymous had no gender" which misunderstands that the entire idea was that the communities focusing on gender wasn't really a necessity and everyone was seen as "equal" in terms of gender was because it was expected that all users were male by default and thus the website and community always had a strictly male outlook and that focusing on gender as anything other than male would be basically pointless and cause needless division for what was seen as an insignificant minority at that time.
I am not going to say that 4chan in its history was always the far-right cesspool that it is now. As historically it could be argued that it was a far more progressive and diverse place, especially in a time, (inheriting much of its culture of revolting from traditional formal society from its older father site 2chan), where being seen as a geek, otaku or any other person that didn't conform to societies expectations was very much frowned on in society and risked mass ostracization.
4chan was that place for those types of people, where disenfranchised young men went to truly break free of that societal baggage to joke and poke fun of themselves and others and break the rules of what was expected of that society they rejected. It wasn't an egalitarian paradise, sure. But it still had a strong inclination towards youth engaging in rebellion against tradition conservative society. Which is entirely ironic considering how many boards on 4chan are now and completely ignore that old 4chan specifically was at least in some large part was a backlash against their values, and memed them for everything they were, trolling or mockingly satirically identifying themselves as said rabbid far-right extremists because of how they saw them as embarrassingly overly-edgy losers who they could use for getting further attention and shock-value at the expense of both the extremists they parody, and outsiders who didn't get the joke which could've been milked for even more lulz.
For those who don't get my point, it is that 4chan at its heart truly wasn't about the extremist discriminatory, conservative ideology that it is known for nowadays and often even served as a backlash to those views. Though at the same time we shouldn't sugar-coat what those communities as being this all-inclusive utopia either, and remember that they were just as often simple agents of chaos who had no true allegiances and were more often than not wild-cards, trying to cause as much lulz as possible, never serving as anyone's personal army. They'll also find your location for stupid shit.
These videos have such a nostalgic feel to them, this stuff seem like stuff from like 2011 and stuff
i just found this by chance, but as soon as i saw the ponytown footage over blushades talking i impulsively went "WAIT, IS THIS CHANNEL WHY I ALWAYS SEE THAT GROUP THERE EVERY TIME I LOG ON???"
i don't know how true it is but they always stood out to me omg
love the silly little tidbits, aesthetic, and simple animation by the way!! this was a fun watch :D
Damn. It's weird seeing someone write the history about what I've lived through. We are old now.
I still remember the day my weeaboo status badge was physically ripped off by a gundam coming down from the sky the moment I set foot into Japan. It immediately put an otaku badge on me and then flew back into the sky.
What an epic moment.
Nothing like a classic Detective Pony reference at 4:17 . Elegant, never change, Shadok, never change
and with elevatorstuck in the background
this thing genuinly feels like someone is having a war between 2 sides in their brain and is slowly loosing their grasp on reality
*Squints*
That font...is... *OH boy*
*Quantum Leap Intro Music*
Manon and Cybermare go so well together that this ship practically sails itself.
yess! i loved this episode. it keeps getting better
10:32 guess what?
THEY DID IT
what-
WHAT THE “DIGITAL EXPERIENCE” YOU TALKIN BOUT
Now this is high quality animation and content
The little movements of the characters while they talk make them feel so alive
It was very nice of Blushades to aid you on "the pool's closed" meme. What a lad. Thank you Bushaids.
I love this video it's so informative and it's genuinely just great.
Ironically I just skip to 9:32 and it ends up being rule 34
Stumbled upon this video at random, and it's really nice!
Well done and just informative enough, perfect!
Thank you.
PS:
Maud and Applebloom arguing about internet rules, perfect!
Really interesting video and I love the interactions of those 2 !
I think y'all forgot about rule 0, which is DON'T FUCK WITH CATS
Bro chill
I feel like the TF2 tts voices really complete this. Honestly, a Loveweb on TF2 would be pretty neat! Idk if it’s not obscure enough for that, but it does have interesting history :)
IT'S TEXT TO SPEECH!!!
@@DecidiousGreens Um… Yes…? I didn’t say it wasn’t, I just abbreviated for simplicity (: I figure anyone watching an Internet history series would be knowledgeable enough to understand what I meant by tts (and if they don’t, there’s always Google)
Rule 72 is if there is a song, there is a megalovania version of it
14:19, AHHHH, ITS A LION, LIKE THE VIDEO
*AND GET IN THE CAR*
I only just found out about this series and I LOVE it, manon & cybermare are a blessing
also, lmao, REALLY making sure the prophesy of r34 is fulfilled in this one
Imagine some boomer seriously searching about the rules of the internet, and then seeing this video.
Just found this show through your posts on the pyro discord, I swear I ran into your channel before, before never caught onto this amazing series somehow. It’s awesome sauce!
"Upgrade from f$@% awful to f&@# stupid." My fauvorite quote
10:25 : "No exceptions, Manon from LOVEWEB" 2024 and i still dont see nuthin 😭
Ah, a wonderful trip down memory lane. Kudos on all the classic gifs and memes. Praise be to Raptor Jesus
1:50
They forgot the footnote to Rule 2: Rules 1 and 2 only apply to raids
Here's one:
Rule 49: if it exists, there's a Friday Night Funkin' mod of it
Btw Fun Fact: The Rule announcer is soldier from TF2. Don’t Believe me? Look it up. I’ll wait.
Loving the TTS Soldier voice reading out the rules
With a thumbnail like that number 34 is going to come into play before the video lmao
The entire channel gives me insane "ive been on the web for far too long" vibes and i love it.
at this point i think shadok WANTS manon porn, there's no way you would even MENTION rule 35 without wanting it to be made and even go as far as to mention that there's literally no porn of it yet. you've cursed yourself shadok, but i believe you see it as a blessing.
UPDATE: there already is.
the old internet is so interesting to me, almost makes me wish i was part of all of this (but i imagine its not like everything was perfect back then, it's just that the most interesting things are what we remember...)
thank you for satisfiying my curiosity ^^
i think this one is my favorite episode.
Never herd of this channel just saw the video.... im showing this to my nephew when he gets older
Yeah you should
10:00 The fact that you're using _this_ song when talking about r34 is terrifying.
Damn You beat me too it...
It's like I'm really back there again. But way less troubling. Awesome video!
10:40 welp, you got what you wished for
Rule #3 of the updated rules is the truest thing that has ever been written, especially in terms of video games as that's APPARENLY the only way to truly preserve them.
i like how the thumbnail conveniently cuts off rule 34
Thank you for this entretaining video! It's refreshing to see someone talk about the early-internet norwadays. And I love the quality and formate of this video too ^^
love the Apandah video!!! 0:06
Rule 72: if it exist a megalovania will be made of it
Ai voice generation is getting really good. Still a bit muffled but are way less robotic.
Rule 51: If It Exists, Someone Is Gonna Make Phonk Out Of It!
Oh boy, I sure do love exploring the rules and guidelines of the World Wide Web. I sure do hope one of them isn't more adult oriented and based on the number 34
The pool's closed thing was funny as hell tbh.
10:46 "someday, you will answer for your sins. And god may not be so merciful"
As soon as I saw the custom "Rule 15", I knew exactly what it was! XD
Loving this channel so far! ^~^
it exists now. Good.
I want this series to be appreciated by more people
I've done some scientific research
There are Already actual rule 34 of LoveWeb
R34 speedrun, eh?
Thats terrible, anyway Sauce?
Bro I was not expecting soldier from TF2 to read these
Sorry, Manon, but I GUARENTEE there will be naughty art of you and Cybermare in the future now.
Especially considering your reaction to the idea.
