- It's a lunchbox that can re-heat and warm your favourite foods and leftovers to make lunch that little bit more exciting. It works on mains electricity and can also be adapted to use in a car / truck with a cigarette lighter connection. So... let's put it to the test, we have some leftover soup and peri peri chicken, Mrs Barry wants to go to Ikea, what a perfect combination!

Nice
yes
Concentrated fruit drinks are in the frozen isle of the US super markets and they are everywhere. Most popular flavors are Grape and Apple. They come in a round frozen tube.
Barry you've been shopping in sainsburys again haven't you mate lol
I travel a lot and I use this to warm pre-made food from the supermarket to save money. In about half an hour food is good to eat, but not boiling hot. BTW you can press the center of that rubber on top and it opens for the steam to come out trough the small holes.
"Electric Lunchbox" sounds like either it's a restaurant at Disney World or it's a band that just dropped the hottest new album of 2021.
Tonight on Barrys Kitchen Barry has given up on Burning down the Kitchen so tonight we have a special episode of Barry trying to burn down the car.
🤣🤣🙏
More upvotes and happy chittering noises for this comment
lol
I'll stick to putting hot stew, soup or chili in an insulated Thermos/flask. You can even put boiling water in it to cook up hotdogs on the go or keep tea or coffee hot. I guess I am old school. Ya know I have a vintage Aladdin container that keeps a serving of ice cream cold for about 6 hours.
Also, you don't have to worry about the contents sloshing out if you hit the brakes!
look for a microwave called "wavebox" you can use that in the car too many truck drivers have em, small compact and easy to use with a carry handle...
A lot of trucks have an inbuilt microwave fixed in the sleeping pod in the back
I got a mini 800w microwave from Amazon and because it was pink it was 50 quid 😂 Plugs into the inverter of my van 👍
Hello the silicone cap does not have to be removed, you can actually push on it in the middle and it will hold the heat inside and let the steam out
Yes, that is how it should be used. It also wouldn't take as long to cook food that way 😊
I was thinking that throughout the video. It wouldn't have fell out all over the place either.
"mrs B said some things that will change you" ... Best thing said in a UA-cam video since the inception of 0-3 sad onions!
You should have brought it with you empty so you can keep your Swedish Meatballs warm 😁😁
As a truck driver here in the US, I have a triumvirate of tools to keep me fed. I have a 40 qt igloo cooler, which is stocked with everything essential for a weeks worth of breakfast lunch and dinner. I also have a lunchbox size heater for dinner. And last but not least, I have a teapot so I can have either hot tea or coffee. All of these appliances can be used in my truck utilizing a 12v socket. I have no need for fast food, unhealthy foods, and on weight watchers I have lost 100 pounds.
Congrats on your weight loss, that’s great going!
Giving up fast food and unhealthy food for me was really not that much of an issue…Oreo’s on the other hand, that was tough! The problem I have is that because I plan and prepare my own meals ahead, my public interaction is way down. Driving for a living is very isolating.
Nice! Glad you found ways to eat fresh and healthier options for a job that makes it difficult to do so! Hope it's still going well
I am a truck driver and would love to see a video of a fellow truck driver eating healthy.
@@volvowagon70isolating indeed!
There's probably a toaster for in-car use. I'm just saying.
Probably best left there, I think.
in fact, there's even a deep fryer for in-car use, prorbably meant for caravans, but it does exist lol
The way Chloe said "Are we allowed to eat it?" Is so British and sweet I love it
Growing up in Sweden it was a proper treat in the winter when you got hot blueberry soup, which is just a tiny bit thicker than what you got from the IKEA, served together with what Wikipedia calls rusk in English. In Swedish it's "blåbärssoppa med skorpa".
I would really like to eat something called blaberssoppa 😂
I got to say Barry I'm so glad I found your channel again I love your videos they're nice to just watch and relax, I was just having my lunch and having this to watch just is comforting and enjoyable. Love the gadgets you show!! Keep being amazing💕
I actually got a version of this as a gift and I really love it especially for thin meat that could go tough in the microwave. The steaming feature keeps the meat tender and it gets pretty hot!
I usually let it run for an hour and have great results.
Every time Barry mentions the bonus scene, I'm like "Don't give away our secret..."
Chloé: « It stinks in here 💯 ! » also Chloé « This looks amazing ! »
😂😂😂
I went without chef Mike for a year during college, only to find these thermal isolated lunch boxes at my parents'. Its basically the same thing they make waterbottles with, but shaped like wider, shorter cylinders. It's particularly convenient for soups and Asian food like rice and curry, etc.
Thank you so much, I am going to use mine for the first time on Tuesday when I return to work. I am looking at product reviews in order to make sure I am using it right.
Threat kind of car-powered foods heaters are available at every truck stop in the USA for all the long-haul drivers. Or regular drivers, too, it's not odd to take a 5-8 hour road trip. I've taken dozens in the Midwest.
I dont want the threat kind
I love my electric lunchbox for work. I don't transport my food in it though. It stays at my workplace and I just use my normal Tupperware things for getting my lunch to work. It's just lighter.
Here I am thinking it's an electrified lunchbox to ward off thieves. . .Silly Rabbit
Some taxi drivers have these, so they can have warm healthy food in the car.
My hubby is a truck driver and uses something similar to this, its normal to put the food on a few hours before they want to eat and he loves it
Lol a gadget made for offices without microwaves in a time when most of us work from home. Nice.
Pretty sure others have pointed it out, but you do not have to take the steam vent cover off. You can press the center and it should flip up and release the steam (because it can flip up and down)
After you're done venting the steam, simply press the sides and it should close it back.
How often do you have to vent it?
“avocado isn’t a fizzy drink mrs b” hahahaha
Push the center of the vent with the plastic in place and the sides pop up opening 4 small holes to let steam out...
if this was friday of last week, there was an accident in bridgwater which backed up all the way to weston. I never went to that IKEA but might now
I have a crock-pot lunch mate. Pretty much the same things as this and it was a life saver this year. My office was "essential" and I used it to have hot lunch while avoiding the public microwaves all year!
Funny😀. Cute. I have one arriving today. Thanks 👍
Your forgetting that you would go to work or plug-in car and then there would be a few hours before lunch. So yeah it slowly heats. I use to use one in my Semi truck (18 wheeler). Worked great. Mine also cooked the food not just warmed it.
I work on wind turbines and I have one of these. Plug it in up tower and have a good warm lunch by noon. Mine takes around an hour but works well.
Do the blades slow down when you plug it in?
Fun gadget! We have an inverter in the car and do slow cooker meals on road trips. We learned by experience ALWAYS bungee cord the lid on.
I have one for my job, out driving in the truck all day. They are a good purchase. One thing to note, you do not need to pull the soft plastic out, just push it in so it pops up in reverse.
Lady, that's some speed on those narrow roads! Is it Barry Rally??
Why does lovely Mrs.B look so done in the videos. 😂 Thank you for keeping up with the great work Family B! 🤲💐
Ikea looks interesting. I've never been because there isn't one anywhere near me.
It really is. See if anyone has a walking tour here on YT.
The layout is amazing. I got stoned and tried to go backwards. I chickened out. Got some meatballs and went to the entrance.
The store is a walking adventure.
The new amazing invention of a tiny croc pot.
1. What did you guys buy in IKEA?!
And 2. Where's the mini food and giant food gone Barry! I miss it so much
You have to press the plastic button in from the center, which vents the holes, you don't have to remove the cap completely lol
I do not have mains power. I have been using a similar item for 2 years now, as I do not have an oven. It is brilliant. Yes. They are slow, but they work! Greetings from Dimboola in Victoria, Australia.
There is a big Clive tear down video on one of them
I just reheated some chips from the chip shop and gravy in the plastic and within about 20 minutes I could not touch them they were hot .the gravy started to bubble in that plastic container but I don't know if I should have left it in ..
Looking forward to some decent at work
I mean, most work places have microwaves which you blast for 60seconds and its at temp. My concern with this thing in the car is drain on the car battery.
Why does everyone do the steamer cap wrong. You don't have to take it off. Just push it and the edges pop up. Then when you want to close it push the edges back down.
I would love to see you only cook with a car, Cook on the engine, maybe cook a steak or some salmon in the exhaust pipe etc. You can buy an "exhaust-pipe burger attachment online.
The manifold is safer and better.
There's an episode from a couple years back where he tried baking cookies on his car dash. 😋
I got one of those years ago from I think Aliexpress or Wish … brought it to work with me and plugged it into my wall outlet about 1/2 hr to warm up my food. Works quite well. Wanted to get and try the Itaki lunchboxes where they actually cook the food.
Barry, I feel like you should have sat behind Mrs B and seen how the box sits on the passenger seat and you can film it from the back?
"Barry, you've been 5 days"
"I'm trying to bake a cake..."
Thanks for the laugh, that was awesome!
Was the bottom of the whole thing hot? Can I put this on the seat next to me while I drive, or should I keep it on a cookie sheet on the floor board? I don't have a center console in my car.
How far up are their seats in the car that the centre console is so far back
There are "flameless cookers" that look like that but use US MRE heaters under the metal insert. I think they're a camping gadget. They heat up way faster than that thing too. XD
On those thermometers you can't measure through a small hole. The laser doesn't do the measuring, that just shows you what direction it's pointed in. The actual "cone" of measurement spreads out quickly, like a flashlight.
My mom would love it, but my dad wouldn't like it due to thinking it's a fire hazard.
I got my husband to me when he worked on the road! But Barry, you don’t take the circle thing off, you press it in and it curls up to release steam! (Then it won’t spill)
To keep it from falling over again, place a non-skid mat under the food heater. 😊❤️🇨🇦
“You mean you never had an avocado for breakfast every day?”
“Avocado isn’t a fizzy drink Mrs. B”
We love Mrs. B 💕😂💕
Could be an idea for a Barshens, can Barry bake a cake in his car oven in the time it takes to reach Ashens.
Cool
cheers quite a fun thing and useful for some folks i'd imagine... there are some pretty more full on ones though but this was a bargain
I have chopsticks ,fork and 2 spoons. I like my lunch box.
You’re supposed to put water in the bottom.
So I have a "Portable Car Stove" that looks like an old school lunchbox and it heats food. I really do like it for heating foods. I just buy disposable loaf tins that fit inside and I'm good. Or I'll have food stored in glass and heat it up in that.
The oven sounds safe enough. It’s the toasters mrs B needs to be worried about
I feel like one that keeps stuff cold will be more useful.. like the miniest mini fridge :)
When at work I have a microwave. When driving I go to the Golden Arches ect.
On some vans ur cigarettes lighter where u plug it into does not turn of when car is off
2 hours of food in the danger zone temperature? Yum.
I love my electric lunch box.
Now im super curious about the cigarette lighter oven!
The time and effort for this... may aswell have microwaved the soup and put it in a food flask or normal coffee flask for the soup and itll last a lot longer
Never realized how small Mrs b was until I saw her seat in the car.
Hi, Does it come with 2 plugs. One for 240V 3 pin plug for use at home and 1 cigarette lighter adaptor. I dont understand how it could be hot wit car 12 Voltage power. Thanks.
Thanks Guys 🤗
I don’t think this is so great for reheating food, it has your food in the temperature zone that bacteria thrive in for a long time. Heating the food first at home to 70°C and using this to maintain the temperature seems like a better use
have a pop at baking a zebra cake.
Nice idea I think you read my mind as I was planning on doing that soon!
@@mrbarrylewis great minds...
So.. its just a crockpot that is mildly more convenient to travel with?
Presto brand makes a portable traveling slow cooker I've wondered about. Sort of a similar concept.
Good video but I gotta thank you it doesn't feel like a bad idea you make me laugh every time I watch one of your videos keep up the good work ✌💖💪👨🍳🎅🚌👍
If you're interested in why the car was so much slower (and why the oven will never feasibly work for something like baking a cake)... Cigarette lighters are 12v and typically have a 15a fuse, so will never use more than around 180 watts (12*15) and realistically less, since at that point the fuse would blow.
By contrast, a typical oven can draw anywhere from 2 to 5 kilowatts. Given a small enough "oven" 180 watts could realistically bake a cake, but at that point you're literally talking about something akin to an ez bake oven (maybe slighter warmer) baking a "cake" that is about the size of a typical cookie and taking a very long time to accomplish it.
oh man ideas for the fizzy drink,, ice cream or sorbet, wine, or cake(or even bread like in a banana bread or other sweet bread) i wonder if any of those would be good
Barry have you ever tried or thought about cooking using just the car? Things like burrito for example
Hi to you all . Watched the video and was very impressed so ordered straight away . 02-07-21 1350 have the same hot box in me greedy mitts so will try out and let you know .but carry on love the vlogs
best wishes Martin King
How the hell did you go to IKEA with the wife and not come home with a box that only just fits in the back with the seats down...😳
My husband is a trucker.he cooks his food in his luchbox
Hey Barry do a gadget vid featuring the Ember Electric Coffee Mug please
Please can we have the recipe for the peri peri chicken as it looks yummy! 😋
Check out the review of the oven from Tom the Taxi Driver.
Can we get a recipe for the Piri piri chicken. It looks great!!
Maybe Ashens could use this on his next "food" test.
I love my lecky lunch box! Makes work pack ups so much more fun than a butty!!
If you're alone you can put it next to the seat next to you and hold it in place with a seat belt.
I have a tiny portable refrigerator that I adore
you need to remove the vent plug when you heat up!!!
juice concentrates were more common in the us when i was a kid, 15-20 years ago. i almost never see them anymore. i think one reason is the rise of artificial sweeteners, which means you can make much more compact powdered drinks that won't go sticky sitting in the cabinet and will mix in more easily. another reason might be that juice concentrates are maybe seen as something for poor people? idk
oooo I have never seen inside an Ikea
What does Mrs. B do for work?
On the road great idea office or workplace use a microwave every work lunch room has a microwave and if you haven’t your workplace simply doesn’t like you leave get a better job.
calling it now, I think when used with a 12v cigarette lighter it'll blow the fuse in most modern cars or worse cause the wiring to overheat and melt the insulation.
I stand corrected, nevertheless something to consider though
as long as it's not a cigarette lighter toaster, it'll probably be okay ;)
Thank goodness it wasn't an exhaust pipe burger cooker... :P
