  • I used Minoxidil (Rogaine) on my receding hairline for the last two months and here is my first update! It's been said that it takes 4 months to see any changes, but I have some changes already!
Check out my website post: lifeanddiy.com/minoxidil-befo... with the before and after photos.
I am trying my best to show you really accurate before and after photos and videos. And, I didn't do the best job with them because I had an issue with my camera & switched to a different one. I also wasn't thinking about this experiment when I rearranged my studio lighting setup, which can really change things. I am working on fixing this up and taking more photos so I can keep things as consistent as possible for future updates. I'm also going to make sure I wear my hair exactly the same in future before and after photos.

    THE MINOXIDIL PRODUCT I'M USING⤵
This is the one I ordered: amzn.to/3Hhv5u6 and it includes 3 bottles. I've barely used 1 full bottle in two months. So, this one will last quite a while. I've heard the generic brands are just as good.
CLEANSING SCALP OIL TO PREVENT FLAKES⤵
    notyourmothers.com/products/c...
This product has really helped cut down on flaky scalp issues. Many people also apply other oils to the scalp when not doing a treatment. It can help with preventing flakes. This product is incredible as I apply it to my scalp before I get into the shower, then wet the hair, and then use it to cleanse the scalp as I apply a bit of shampoo to the other part of my hair. It works beautifully as an oil and cleanser in one product. My scalp loves it.

Sweetie, You are a beautiful woman with the type of beauty that requires little to no make up. You have a thick beautiful head of hair already. I appreciate your experiment that might help women who actually deal with pattern baldness. I just hope you aren't going to create long term issues from chemicals in products. Enjoy your beauty. As a 58 yr old woman I know what a short, fleeting stint it is. But inner beauty, dignity and confidence takes its place. ❤

Thank you for your kind comment and beautiful message. 🙏 I definitely don't want to create any issues from chemicals, as my health is more important than this. So, I will look into that more. It helps a bit that I am using a very small amount, but I still want to be careful. I'm curious about the possibility of maintaining hair growth after doing a stint with minoxidil, then stopping fully. I'd like to see what happens and share that. But, I know you are 100% correct that inner beauty and who you are is most important in this short life.

Thanks for bringing this up! I think this is a topic up for debate, as there are a lot of unknowns and contradictory information out there. I want to cover more details like this in other videos. I know there is at least one study that contradicts this, and more research is on the way. I need to look into it a lot more, but this is really important for people to know that this is a real possibility. I've searched around a bit for videos and posts from people giving updates many years later (after stopping Minoxidil) and some people have retained much of the hair growth. I just saw a video of a guy many years after using Rogaine to grow his beard and he stopped since then and he just gave a 5 year update, still having a full beard. There are definitely other cases where the issue of hair loss was pretty severe and the person used multiple methods for hair growth/retention and after stopping, it all fell out. So I've read a variety of things. I will definitely chat about this in the future. I've seen numerous comments/questions like this on Realself.com where the person is asking a doctor about it - see this one as an example: www.realself.com/question/new-york-ny-hair-fall-stop-minoxidil. I'd be curious to learn more from doctors who have helped patients with this for many years, many patients, to get their perspectives on it. I'm sure there are so many factors involved. If anyone reading this comment has any long-term experience with this, feel free to share it!
Here's an excerpt from a review paper, stating, "Approximately one-third of the treated patients will obtain terminal hair growth using a 2 to 3% solution twice a day. Patients should receive treatment for a minimum of six months to evaluate the drug's efficacy. Factors associated with patients who obtained new hair growth include: a thinning versus absolute baldness, treatment initiated at a relatively younger age, and hair growth noted within three months. Following a positive growth response, there may be a reduction in new hair growth gained with minoxidil use for more than one year. Stopping the medication is associated with an exacerbation of hair loss." - pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3066259/ This paper was from 1988.
And, a more recent paper from 2023: Vellus-to-terminal Hair Follicle Reconversion Occurs in Male Pattern Balding and is Promoted by Minoxidil and Platelet-rich Plasma. Unfortunately with this study they didn't test things separately with just Minoxidil or just PRP. Still, very interesting. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10599155/

There is a huge community of men who use minoxidil off label for beard hair growth, and it has been observed that once hairs follicles reach full adult size from their vellous size, they continue to grow on their own like regular hairs without the need for continued minoxidil use.

Guys even doctors recommend 5% minoxidil for women, and it does not interfere with ur hormonal system. But 5% is mostly used for androgenic alopecia for men and women. Many recommend the foam, bc the solution can drop on ur face or pillow that is why you can have patches where grow hair. You can easily avoid this if you wait an hour before sleeping after applying it and washing ur hands afterwards.

Thank you! The more videos I watch, the more I realize that there are many options to try out for hair growth. I have experimented with microneedling alone for hair growth, but didn't keep up with it enough to see a change. I don't want to inject the minoxidil into my bloodstream, so I probably won't be doing these things together. Nano needling is another option that I think would work really well because it creates much tinier micro-injuries and it would allow the minoxidil to get right into the surface of the skin easier, but not deeper. I may try that someday.

I know a lot of doctors say minoxidil doesn’t thicken hair but I can’t deny the changes I’ve seen in my experience. 5% mens product is absolutely fine for women, as my daughter(covid related)found out from our family dermatologist. Its just marketing hype! We like the Kirkland because of the way it looks on dry thicker hair.
Also, we get it in a super saturated solution with tretinoin for absorption, but mix it with the Kirkland.
As far as how quickly it may have less benefit after use, I didn't use it much in 2023 and kept the astounding gains from 2022. At yearly family events there is usually a gaze up and look of puzzlement lol.
I also use a Wolezek 850nm/650nm combo red light bulb which is supposed to stimulate mitochondrial function.
My hair stylist said she was amazed and said I should have kept a journal, as she had never seen results on a man using minoxidil. Oh, forgot to mention occasional use of Nizoral, also unproven, so I don't know.
Thank you for your channel, it gave me courage to try the microneedling a couple years ago along with other products.
Luck to everyone on thier journey to find balance and health!

Are you sure you have androgenic alopecia? If you are doing carnivore make sure you are getting enough Biotin because carnivore can deplete that, high protein I think. Biotin deficiency can cause hair, skin and nails problems. Biotin is needed to stop hair from going into dormant phase. Either supplement Biotin or eat liver / egg yolks. Those are both good for choline anyway which is important. I've had sebhoreic dermatitis and tellogen effluvium since I did carnivore (started about a year in) and even after going off it didn't go away. I don't have the shedding so much anymore, but my hair is a lot thinner. You may also need more riboflavin. But, I think biotin was the big thing. I've heard it can cause potassium and calcium deficiency too and I'm supplementing those, you need vitamin D levels to absorb calcium of course. I can't eat liver or fat due to IBS-D. I'm trying glutamine 5g empty stomach now for the IBS-D based on studies and I even saw some data that biotin deficiency causes visceral hypersensitivity in nerves in digestion. But, I think I have the post-infectious IBS-D and studies have shown that 5g gluatmine on empty stomach can work for that. Oh, and Biotin or calcium deficiency can cause the insomnia symptoms you are all experiencing in your family on carnivore. And, calcium is needed for the Biotin enzyme to work. But, Calcium helps sleep really not magnesium, unrelated to it's role in Biotin.

There are some good reports that Minoxidil works wonders when done in combination with red light therapy and microneedling. Also, people won't notice things like that about you. We humans are so critical of every fine line, wrinkle, etc., and we do things to slow the aging process just to make us feel better about ourselves. It's funny, but when I had my stroke in April 2022 I lost about 15 pounds of muscle. Then we went to eat out with friends that we haven't seen in a while and they said I looked great and asked what I was doing? I told them I had a stroke! Lol... The only time people can really notice a difference is if something drastic happens. For example, you go from 140 pounds to 100 pounds. Or if you go from 140 pounds to 200. Maybe if you lost a couple front teeth people would notice. Lol.. Keep up the good work - I always enjoy watching you! Gets me motivated.....

Biotin is a great one to take for hair and nails. I'm not really strict carnivore anymore, though I still eat very meat-based. I'm still working on fixing the sleep issues though. But, I am going to put a pause on it for now and look into it a lot more. I'll do a video on it coming up.

    • @alexv5349
      @alexv5349 4 місяці тому

@@LifeDIY yes it seems to affect directly the production of some type of collagen and shortens telomere according to a study done on animals (i hope they didn't make them suffer btw with the experiment :/ ), but i've absolutely no idea how, what it does exactly and what would be the consequences on the skin for example.
BTW, a bit of receding hairline might be the consequence of DHT (yes even if you're a woman as DHT is a byproduct of testosterone, women do produce testosterone too even if it's less than men and they have more sensitive receptors to DHT/testosterone so the same given amount of testosterone will have more effects on women. If i understand correctly what i've read !)
So trying a dht blocker would be effective, i'm not talking about finasteride for example, but some "natural" dht blockers like rosemary oil can be as effective as minoxidil 2% according to this study: www.researchgate.net/publication/274571514_Rosemary_oil_vs_minoxidil_2_for_the_treatment_of_androgenetic_alopecia_a_randomized_comparative_trial#:~:text=In%20a%202015%20study%20of,groups%20experienced%20a%20significant%20increase
And if you use dermapen on the receding hairline it could work too, as dermapen according to this study www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3746236/#:~:text=There%20was%20no%20significant%20adverse%20effect%20in%20both%20Microneedling%20and%20Minoxidil%20group.&text=Initiation%20of%20new%20hair%20growth,Minoxidil%20group%20%5BFigure%208%5D.
So why not using dermapen + rosemary oil at the same time instead of minoxidil for example ?
That's just a thought, i'm not even convinced myself, i'm not a pro, i've just read about that because i've a bit of receding hairline too and i don't want to have alopecia, as a male, i have way more chances to have an alopecia than you ... Oh and I use Nisim NewHair Biofactors Shampoo, I dunno if you heard of it, but it's great, try it 🙏🙏
