Man, finally some legit plyometric movements! So many “plyo” workouts have you doing deep squats and staying on the ground when the whole point is to minimize ground contact time and be explosive. I appreciate the progressions as well

Thanks for teaching me something. Just started doing this yesterday at therapy. Torn ACL and meniscus recovery. Now I can impress my physiotherapist with my knowledge;)
These are really good. After decades of distance running, I'm trying to restore some of my boyhood spring & foot speed, so I've been doing some plyometrics a few times a week. I probably got ahead of myself: From 'power skipping' I moved straight into box jumps, but I'm almost certain I'm doing some of that knock-knee stuff y'all warn against. So I'm gonna back up, and start working those 'ninja landings.' I'll have a friend watch this vid, then watch my knees. Thanks so much!
Huge help! I'm a 45 year old competitive tennis player and have lost a ton of explosiveness since ankle surgery. Been looking for beginner progressions for plyometrics, and it's been very hard to find.
Thx for explaining in as much detail as possible, not just the movements, but how/why they work. I’ve recently started doing plyos for hockey, and the exercises are good; I am already seeing improvements, but it helps to have that detailed understanding of how that stopping energy is harnessed. I feel like explaining the stop in terms of ninja stealth helped me visualize the flow of kinetic energy; how it’s kept and harnessed from one movement into the next, rather than lost in a clumsy, abrupt stop.
Great video. A friend asked for some help with increasing his vert, and I needed to find a video that explained plyometrics really well. This was perfect. Wish I had this when I was training in college!
This video made me subscribe. Perfect balance of demonstration, instruction, AND explanation of the theories behind everything. We got the what, how, and the WHY. Just awesome!
I'm trying plyometrics and HIIT at home again, after my physical therapist told me to. This was a good introduction! I had surgery on my leg 10 years ago and it's still smaller than the other, lol. I used to do ballet, and the jumps remind me of it actually.
Awesome, thank you, I've been putting the cart before the horse. I really like the idea of using the 'ninja jumps' (or landings) to establish good control and body position. I'll watch out for that valgus phenomenon too, need to do these with a mirror make sure I'm not doing that.
Thanks for the tips! Been doing the workouts from Syro Workout till now, but I am definitely gonna incorporate a few of those exercises now as well. :D
Great video! Scary training on them knees but you don't know what you are capable of accomplishing unless you eliminate fear...thanks guys! Liked and subscribed!
I feel like I can do those with practice. Not that I don't think I had the strength for it but my coordination might be a little off lol. I've just never done it before. The one I may not be good at is the depth jump. I could never get too high even in martial art but always wanted to get better at it. I may have to try some of this stuff since I need to learn it. Trying to become a personal trainer and trying to learn as much as I can on how to properly do more variety of exercises.
Do you think that doing these exercies at home on the concrete could be somehow dangerous for my joints? Better go to a park? Great video thank u again😃
Loved the video! I'm a recreational tennis player and I was looking for videos to help with plyometrics. Could you recommend any other of your content that would be good for tennis? Thanks :)
oh yeah nah should do plyos before any kind of strength training in a session as they are the most demanding on the nervous system and should be performed when fresh to get the most benefit 👍
Ncsa's guidelines are to incorporate them separately. For example you do plyometric training for the legs and continue upper body strength training and vice versa, you do upper plyometrics followed by lower body training
How would you work this into a lifting program? And in guess the bigger question is how do I work plyometrics into my lifting program? The goal for me is to be a more functional athlete going forward.
Mathew Fraser I usually do plyos the day of lifting. It tends to be after but if it’s a leg day I might do it before depending on if I’m lifting heavy or not.I’m not an expert or anything but it’s given me some decent results
@Fitness Culture I need some drills to work on landing softly. I sound like a bag of bricks when I'm jumping. What's the appropriate way to land to keep it smooth, heel to toe or toe first?
You might have already done this, but I would love to hear your opinions on plyometric training and its application to modern parkour training. UK team Storror are probably the most famous, and they are exceptional distance jumpers, yet, other younger parkour athletes continue to push those limits; Team Phat, Ed Scott, Travis Verky, for instance, mixing plyo and precision landings with some Jackie Chan shit NOT in the gym!
I haven't done plyometrics since high school. I'm in my mid 20s now and want to get back into it, build back some explosiveness and speed for sports and stuff, but I don't really know how many reps/sets of each exercise is necessary. Are there numbers we should be aiming for?
