  • I made a sliding pantry door using Amazon hardware (Link below) and a barn door I reclaimed from an old barn.
    The Process:
I started by getting an old barn door. The barn door in question was from a family barn that was slated to be torn down. Once recovered, I used a brush mounted on a drill to brush off all the loose bits of dirt, grim, and wood. Once it was all brushed off, I used a sander to knock off the edges so that the wood would feel nice to the touch. I then applied three coats of Polycrylic. (Link below) The Polycrylic is water based, dries quickly, and comes out clear which makes it ideal. I then mounted the hardware making sure to follow the included instructions. I made sure the mounting points were in studs so that it would support the weight of the door when installed. Once the door was mounted, I notice that the door would drag against the wall so I installed a modified caster as a spacer and for the door to ride along. I think the project turned out great!I have provided links to the hardware and materials used to do this project. Unfortunately I could not find authentic barn doors on Amazon. I think this will need to be sourced locally. : )

    The stuff we used:
    - Barn Door Hardware I used

    - Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish (Satin)

    Safety Notes:
Barn doors are heavy, I made sure the bolts were going into studs when installing the hardware given the weight of the door. Double check the weight limit of the hardware and the weight of the door before attempting this!
