Hi Shannon. Mary from Tucson here…. A couple of years ago I made a shoulder bag with tshirt yarn and I never use it because it is SO HEAVY! I still have some left over and have been meaning to make a basket with it. My 2024 goal is to use up all the yarn I no longer love, so this video is a reminder pull out that leftover tshirt yarn and get that basket made! 😊. Thanks for sharing your crochet love with us ❤
I just picked up the T-Shirt Yarn by Big Twist yesterday at Joann's. My plan was to make an infinity scarf, however once I started chroceting I could tell it would be way too thick for that. So I'll just make a cat mat instead. Interesting concept that Joann's came up with though for this yarn.
I'm kind of in the same boat as you with the tshirt yarn. Back when I first learned to crochet 12 or 10 years ago, it was new on the market, and I grabbed like 3 skeins from Hobby Lobby on clearance. The only thing I could think of to make with it was a rug, but I didnt really need one, so it has sat in my stash all this time and I only just remembered it because of this video lol.
I’ve been making baskets using 8 and 9 mm hooks. I find it quite easy to work with in my experience, the new t-shirt yarn. I use quite a lot of tension to ensure my baskets are able to stand upright by themselves and I’m contemplating a rug or two for my bathroom. I wouldn’t advise it being used for wearables but baskets, rugs and pillows are more appropriate.
I tried it once. I was given a bag of yarn last year and I got some t shirt yarn. I made a bag with it. No l would not go out to get it.😊 I think if I were to get some l would make a rug with it. I would use single crochet since I like a tighter stitch with less holes. I think a half circle one would be cute.
Hey Jessie! I think you’d like it! Maybe a good cat basket……. Actually my cats favorite toy is a 6 foot length of tshirt yarn lol. It’s super springy 😹
Glad to know this is available, Shannon! A while back I purchased a pretty wooden laser-cut basket top and bottom that came with white t-shirt yarn to crochet into a basket. I'd much rather make it in something other than white... yay!
@Lisbeth_59 I did! I want to say it was Red Heart Symphony…..but I can remember the exact name! And I’ve also made a blanket out of bernat casa yarn which is an odd yarn too 😃
I’ve always wanted to try this type of yarn but it’s so expensive that I want to have the right project picked out first and I’ve just not been able to find something.
I’ve made baskets and bags with it. I agree that it’s very heavy for garments or other wearable items. I don’t like working with it. It hurts my hands after a while.
i have got a really small ball of this kind of yarn and i have used it to weave on a plastic canvas and make a bag. it is as stretchy as yours is but i think it will turn out great. i am really curious how it would look knit :0
Hi Shannon ❤ glad you are presenting this I was just thinking about trying it, have you ever tried making your own with tshirts ? I like them for plant covers, coasters and I’m trying to make sourdough mason jar covers .
I have definitely thought about it but never tried it!! I also thought about looking at thrift stores for jersey bedsheets for a larger amount. Those are great ideas!
T shirt yarn is my mortal enemy haha. I hated working with the Lion Brand line of t shirt yarn for amigurumi but I bet it would be good for making baskets or rugs.
What’s your opinion: what would you use T Shirt yarn for?
I've made shopping bags, mats and baskets with it. For a project with good structure, it's great.

You’re welcome Mary and thank you for your kind words and support! I’m glad I helped jog your memory to use up that tshirt yarn!! 😃

I think that’s a great use for it! My cat plays with a 6 ft. Length of t shirt yarn. It’s his favorite toy lol

That’s funny! You’ll have to let me know if you end up making a project with it!!! 😃
I bought the taller skein of t-shirt farm to make a basket for my yarn. I made one a couple of years ago and I love it!!!
That’s awesome! It seems like basket making is the best use for it!

I totally agree with you Melissa! I think Tahiti yarn is great for home decor but don’t advise wearables either!!!

A half circle would be cool!!! Yeah, I’m with you tho, I probably won’t be going out and buying anymore!! 😃
Hi Shannon! Thank you for sharing! I have never used t-shirt yarn but I’d love to make a basket and a rug one day with it 🙂
Hey Jessie! I think you’d like it! Maybe a good cat basket……. Actually my cats favorite toy is a 6 foot length of tshirt yarn lol. It’s super springy 😹
@@ShannonTalksYarn Lol 😂
I've not used T shirt yarn.. your pink cake colour is cute & it worked up nicely as an accent blanket ... maybe could make a pet blanket with it 🐕🤗🐈
Thank you! It’s definitely a different type of yarn to work with. You’ll have to let me know if you ever try it, I’d be curious what you think of it!
I would make bags, hats, baskets and rugs😮
All great ideas Rachel!!! 😃

I’ve been so curious about those wooden tops and bottoms, will you keep me posted on how you liked it please? 😃
@@ShannonTalksYarn absolutely! 🩵
Thanks!
Baskets are great for tshirt yarn also sun hats
I do love a good sun hat!!! 😃
I've seen so many people make baskets with the new t-shirt yarn. It's made me want to try a basket myself.
I think home decor pieces are definitely the way to go with tshirt yarn!!!
Never felt the need for it , and thanks to your great review I will not be tempted. I think I prefer stiffer baskets and hats.
Definitely stay away from it then, it’s not stiff at all! 😂
Thanks for reviewing that yarn! I have been wondering about the new Big Twist because I have a couple ideas for the Red, White, and Blue.
Creative Grandma is making baskets for Memorial Day and 4th of July.
I was wondering braiding for a rug rather than fabric scraps?
I bet it would be much softer on your hands and easier to work with!
That’s a good idea!
You’re very welcome!!! 😃
I got 4, made 2 cat beds so far. My fur babies love them and i still have about 1 1/2 “cake”
I think that’s such a good use for it!!!!
Your edits are hilarious!😂 I'm thinking I'd make a floppy summer hat...maybe?
lol thanks!
I love a good floppy summer hat!!!! 👒
@@ShannonTalksYarn speaking of unusual yarns, didn’t you make a basket out of that meshy, netty novelty yarn?
@Lisbeth_59 I did! I want to say it was Red Heart Symphony…..but I can remember the exact name! And I’ve also made a blanket out of bernat casa yarn which is an odd yarn too 😃
I’ve always wanted to try this type of yarn but it’s so expensive that I want to have the right project picked out first and I’ve just not been able to find something.
I think you're smart Meagan for not jumping into it without a project!
I’ve made baskets and bags with it. I agree that it’s very heavy for garments or other wearable items. I don’t like working with it. It hurts my hands after a while.
It doesn’t seem like it would be, but it really is!! I’m glad you’re had good experiences with other things! 😃
Hi Shannon 🤗 I’d like to use t-shirt yarn to crochet a bag! 🥰🧶🤩
Hello my beautiful friend! Is this type of yarn popular there in Australia? I’m curious! 😃
@@ShannonTalksYarn Hi Shannon 🤗 I can’t buy this unless I go on line…so I’d guess, no it’s not popular here! 😏🥰🧶🤩
Well you’re not missing much my friend! 😂
Hi Shannon! I have never tried t-shirt yarn but maybe for a basket 🤷🏻♀️
Hello!! It would work great for that! 😃
It's meant for sturdy projects like bags, baskets, etc, not wearables despite it being a "t-shirt" yarn
I've only seen Zpaghetti used for baskets and rugs. I don't think it's conducive to wearables
I’d have to agree! It’s just to heavy and stretchy! 😃

I think the plastic canvas is a great idea!!! I think it will give you the structure that the yarn is missing!
Hi Shannon ❤ glad you are presenting this I was just thinking about trying it, have you ever tried making your own with tshirts ? I like them for plant covers, coasters and I’m trying to make sourdough mason jar covers .
I'd make a little bag with it
I have definitely thought about it but never tried it!! I also thought about looking at thrift stores for jersey bedsheets for a larger amount.

T shirt yarn is my mortal enemy haha. I hated working with the Lion Brand line of t shirt yarn for amigurumi but I bet it would be good for making baskets or rugs.
Hahaha!!! So I shouldn’t look for it in an upcoming “Will it Ami” video from you!?!?!? 😂😂😂
I've not used t-shirt yarn. If I were to, I would likely only make rugs.
That was the most I could figure out too!! 😃
...or basket
I think that would be great! 😃
