I first watched this film as a white belt back in 2014, And the second time I watched was as a black belt in 2023. It really rekindled what I first felt doing this for the first time. Thank you Stuart for this masterpiece.
That's funny, I did basically the same thing. Started in 2014 as a white belt and now in 2023 being a black belt, watched this video once more... (although I did watch it once in a while during my years as a colored belt 😉)
Third recent ‘Black belt’ here. Started my journey 2012 ----fast forward DEC 18th 2023----> now a Black Belt. Congrats to all the white belts that never quit. 🖤❤️🖤❤️
This video made me start jiu jitsu. last year i was very depressed for some reasons, and i was looking for a change.. I watched this movie, i don' even remember how i found it, but i did, and i just have to say... Thank you Stuart, and thank you Nic for making this movie... first time i fell in love with a sport in my life i am happier than i ever was
MrKosko8 awesome brother, I can attest to the full benefit of BJJ for mental health, there is no better environment for a person to overcome their demons. Keep it up bro...also go watch Roll 🖐🏼👊🏻
+Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood Nic, I watched this when it came out...and after almost three years it's very refreshing it watch it every once in a while. Thank you for being an inspiration. I hope I'll have the opportunity to meet you some day.
@@JiuJitsuBrotherhood Just now seeing this! Still watch it every here and there... A purple belt now and a competitor, a huge fan of you Soul video too. Keep it going!
Your never too old to start. Started this year at 39 years old, best thing ive done in a long time. Its painful, its sore, but its something ill do till I die.
+Justin Trout Me too! Had a few injuries at the beginning, had to learn that im not twenty anymore. But now i found my way, listen better to my body, roll a little slower and cautious...and i love it :-)
OH DAMN i feel kinda stupid now. Now i got how that realates to my comment. Well you also got cauliflower ears. Started to get it on my left ear, but it was nothing big and it is gone now.
I’ve watched this many times over the years. Always been my favorite video on UA-cam. And it always inspired me in BJJ and in living a more grounded, aware life, but I always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to make something as powerful and immersive as this video. Now years later I’m on my way to becoming a videographer, and this short film is always in the back of my mind. I eventually want to make something as impactful and beautiful as this. Thanks Stu
I've always had an interest in jiu jitsu. I have never practiced martial arts. I remember watching this film with Nick two years ago and I became so inspired to train jiu jitsu but never had the resources to invest in classes. Now two years later I'm watching this film after my first time rolling and after two classes of bjj. I have to say I am over joyed and proud of myself for making this happen. I am very blessed to have this opportunity. Nick is a tremendous inspiration to my training.
I watched this back in 2015 and 5 years later I got my blue belt. Very inconsistent for the first 4 years and 9 months. Life has been a challenge. And the last 4. Months have been of non stop hard work. I always go back to this partícula video for light in a dark day. Today is one. Thank you 🙏🏾
Of all the sports I've played there is NOTHING else in this life quite like the perfect roll. The back and forth chess match, technique vs technique with minimal energy spent from both parties, the roll that's simply... Perfect. BJJ. It changed my life for the better.
All of The video from Stuart Cooper are awesome ! you are doing a pretty good job for the BJJ community ! But this one is just on another level ! All of the things that this guy is talking about are making so much echo within me ! That exactly how I see all of this as a perfect coordination of Physical skills / Spiritual state and consciousness about the universe that playing a game with itself ! Thanks man ! You made my day !
I honestly believe in my soul that jiujitsu conquers the divide of nations, and it surpasses all indifferences that humanity faces, and it truly is "the gentle way"
I watch this video at least once a week and damn does it choke me up everytime. It incites an incrediable amount of passion within me to just be the best version of myself on the mat that I can be... Free of ego... Free of fear and just totally in the moment. Thanks for taking the time to putting this food for the soul together. Cheers!
I trained with this fellow, Stuart, in Rio de Janeiro at Gordo's... He was a purple belt at the time. Very good jiu-jitsu and now I see he's an amazing artist as well.
I love Jiu Jitsu, its improved every aspect of my life through mindset. Things just happen to move a little smoother...Great video and keep doing what your doing because its absolutely amazing
I am pleased to have discovered this video, I was left somewhat disjointed over nic's departure from LondonReal, but it's great to see that he is well and teaching. Very grateful StuartCooperFilms!
I watch this video all the time, you need to do more like this. Classic combination of music, philosophy and action shots, epic! The Blackmill song is now one of my pretraining warm up songs I use to get me in the zone
Had this thought for a while, and I call it the Theory of Cool: When people do anything at the highest level, it looks cool. Therefore, whenever you're training, try to look cool. It doesn't mean that you're doing it right, but looking uncool probably means that you're doing it wrong. Great to hear a similar sentiment from such a talented, intelligent guy.
I watch this everyday . Keeps me goin, When I don't feel like putting in the time . This video motivates my GJJ/BJJ game . So inspirational This video explains why I took my life from the street thug I was . To this humble being I am now 15 years later. Jiujitsu prolly saved my life. Im not out in the streets of cali actting a fool now. Jiujitsu is exactly whats said . A game of war and play !
Great video, thanks so much. Love your brand. I got my black belt after 10 years of training 5 days a week at the age of 62. I am now 64 years old. I also love and am inspired by your words that you want to be 60 years old and still training, using almost no strength, with timing being everything. Well, those are true words. I am to stupid to quit and so is my 63 year old training partner. We can't quit because then the other will feel lonely. lol. Anyway, if I can give a snap shot into the future for those 30-year olds what it's like at 60, it sucks. We can NOT bang anymore, we can NOT use strength, nor speed, and certainly not athleticism because it does not exist. What does exist is exactly what you said, using almost no strength, with timing being everything. Usually, when the rounds start, I take a defensive position, wait for my younger partners to try and pass, try and sweep and counter everything they do. I might be a new black belt in BJJ, but if they gave rank for defense, I would be a third degree black belt in defense. No joke. its all about defending first, assessing the situation, looking for little weight shifts to take advantage of a sweep, looking for my partners to get frustrated or gassed out trying to whoop on an old black belt for which they can not so easily. Also, as soon as they get a position, no matter what rank, and I feel there is little chance of escape or reversal, I consider that a danger and tap. One time I was training with a 33 year old purple belt and he got a bicep slicer on me and of course I study the defense. However, I was lazy and did not defend in time and felt pressure on my bone and tapped. His mouth dropped, his eyes opened wide and he could not figure out why I tapped. I said at the end of the roll, "sure I might have powered out of that bicep slicer, but better to tap today and train tomorrow than have black belt pride and get hurt and be sidelined for a few weeks." He understood and now there is no fear of me tapping out and no ego because I am still training daily. So in conclusion, thanks for making this great video and love your brand. Allen
Well said, as a Christian, I have learned so much from jiu-jitsu that directly translates to my gift of faith. Afterall, the Lord trains my fingers to fight and my hands for war. There is such an overwhelming deepness here, I am not even skimming the surface yet.
This is amazing, it's inspiring to become not just a perfect jiu jitsu fighter but the perfect martial artist. This man is one of the best philosophers i have ever seen.
When I received my training to be a yoga instructor/ teacher it was at a school that was named after the "Lila" concept . You're one of the very few ppl that I've ever heard speak on that topic . I remember when. I first heard it I thought of how it was very relatable to Jiu-jitsu,martial arts, budo etc . Great stuff as always Nic & Stuart.
I didn't do anything but exercise. I thought I was tough before that. After my first day on the mat I realized I was far from it. It humbled me. Now my muscles are smart muscles, not something I can show off or have people think I'm tough.
stuart cooper keep the awesome videos coming! my favorites would be "Robson Moura Jiu jitsu has no end", "The spirit of Jiu Jitsu" and "The journey never ends" awesome work!
This is one of the most inspirational videos as it pertains to training BJJ for the right reasons... Great video. I might watch this every day before training...
Once u make jiujitsu a way of life . You become a open mind. A soul comes out within the soul. This video explains my whole phlilosophy on life and the art .When they become one u become a different person
Seanie, I'm 35 and training for my brown belt exam which is due in November. Although I practiced different MA's when I was "young" I picked up jiujitsu at later age. I didn't know who Nic Gregoriades was until I watched this video; but as a young jiu-jitsu student I hope that someday I can walk in the practice of jiu-jitsu that way, or something isomorphic to it. Wonderful video.
Amazing story man! You inspired me to go back to training. I quit BJJ because of financial reasons and was never able to go back. I hope to roll again soon. Keep training!
incredible, my first ju jitsu teacher once told me that to him ju jitsu was more than just an action, or a contest, or anything physical. To him it was as close to understanding religion as hes ever come. That may not make sense to some people, but to the people who have felt it, they know exactly what he ment.
Excellent video. Thank you Nic for this great testimony. Furthermore, thank you Stuart for putting so much time and effort in making these outstanding videos.
Awesome video! I've fortunately had the opportunity to roll with Nic and he's a great teacher with an awesome outlook on Jiu Jitsu. Definitely a lot to be learned from him!
This video is so well done... I've watched it multiple times you've really grasped the concept of BJJ in my eyes. It's an art and something special and I loved hearing your point of view on it
In the future I wanna have a good job (earn good money so I can spend it on the things I love like Kimonos), be surrounded with the people I love the most like family and never stop doing Jiu Jitsu ...never
Keep going. Don't dropout of BJJ! Continue to train. Get your black belt and become an instructor. You can have your own school. U are still so young, your whole life is in front of you. Congrats! Keep going! Turn your life around and become the success you were born to be!
woww. this is amazing. thank you! i've been doing yoga for years and just started doing jim-jitsu this month for the first time ever for the exact same reasons you mention in the video. very inspiring
I've been getting interested in BJJ but always steered away because I thought it was just another hyper-masculine one-dimensional sport. This video talking about play, yoga, and plant medicine gives me another perspective on BJJ. Love the idea of "soul rolling". Thank you for this video
Awesome video! I'll be thinking about the fluidity of movement and his peaceful state of mind on the mat tonight at Bowie MMA. I'm far from there, but the journey sure is fun...
If you know anything about the benefits of Yoga, or the history of it's practice in relation to Jiu Jitsu training, then you understand how much of a direct impact it has on your Jiu Jitsu game.
I first watched this film as a white belt back in 2014, And the second time I watched was as a black belt in 2023. It really rekindled what I first felt doing this for the first time. Thank you Stuart for this masterpiece.

I started in 2012 when I was 38 and have been on and off for 7 years. I received my purple belt in Dec 2018 and feel a new passion for it.
The only thing i HATE with brazilian jiu jitsu is that I did not start earlier.
im really hating this ringworm on my freaking face!
Ruben Narvaez What do that have to do with my comment?
getting ringworm is another thing that sucks from bjj.
99% of bjj practitioners are expossed to some crappy skin diseases...
OH DAMN i feel kinda stupid now. Now i got how that realates to my comment. Well you also got cauliflower ears. Started to get it on my left ear, but it was nothing big and it is gone now.
Ruben Narvaez Get antifungal cream.. problem will be gone in a week! Lamisil is powerful...

Keep going. Don't dropout of BJJ! Continue to train. Get your black belt and become an instructor. You can have your own school. U are still so young, your whole life is in front of you. Congrats! Keep going! Turn your life around and become the success you were born to be!
woww. this is amazing. thank you! i've been doing yoga for years and just started doing jim-jitsu this month for the first time ever for the exact same reasons you mention in the video. very inspiring
wow inspired i needed this as a jiu jitsu student
i love this video so much...it always gets me excited for the next day
I've been getting interested in BJJ but always steered away because I thought it was just another hyper-masculine one-dimensional sport.
Stuart kills it again, bravo.
If you know anything about the benefits of Yoga, or the history of it's practice in relation to Jiu Jitsu training, then you understand how much of a direct impact it has on your Jiu Jitsu game.
I am Brazilian. I practice BJJ and I am part of an Ayahuasca church. These two experiences have given my life a totally new different meaning.
Wonderful and beautiful video. Thank you very much.
