Hey Nastasia! I am so thankful to have found your channel. I have pages of notes on all the tips you provide and hope I can discover some new things and get the ball rolling in this field. Just now starting to get into Voice over as a hobby/side gig. We will see where it goes! Thank you for all your help and guidance!
Thank you for the video. It’s been very helpful as I am venturing out and about to make my first demo reel here in a few days and I’ve been searching UA-cam for advice, wisdom, knowledge, experience, etc..
1 when the ultra demo came up, it jumpscared me 2 if I was trying to do a character demo, would 3 be fine? I’ve listened to a few people character demos, and 3 is usually what they do.
Thanks for your videos, super helpful! When you discuss writing scripts for demo, does that mean we should never use the exact wording from existing commercials to demo with? I saw a top voiceover coach on UA-cam suggesting we do this but would you suggest we always write our own material for our demos?
Hi Natasha..so glad to came across your site..i appreciate your ideas and how u share your journey with u..un new to this but always wanted to do this. I do my voiceover from my android phone and send 3 ti a voiceocer agency..they responded positively but i have no formal training or respurces..i told them .but there respond was aa soon aa a job comes up they will contact me. I still feel i want training then take it from there.
heyo, if it's alright for me to ask - did you write your entire demo reel on your own? and is it alright to use public domain scripts as part of demos to send to potential employers?
If your goal is to get into cartoon/animations and that is your strong suit then most definitely. You should be showing off whatever attributes are your strongest!
I go a bit more in depth for gear in my "How to become a voice actor" Video. That may help you a bit further! My current gear setup is under the news tab on my website as well if you want more options.
It's a segment in your demo. Say you do a 1 minute demo of a commercial sryle. You might have 3 or 4 different types of styles you want to do. You might do 15 second segment of an upbeat commercial style or another 15 second segment of something more dramatic, and so on.
Really appreciate this video. I have a couple of questions. Is having a slight foreign accent a problem when it comes to English VO work? Would demonstrating the ability to speak or pronounce words in multiple languages beneficial in these demos? Thank you!
There are jobs that sometimes prefer accents. Make sure to advertise both. In todays industry they often ask for specific ethnicities or backgrounds so you can use it to your advantage in many cases!
What a great video, thank you! Your voice is really beautiful 🌻 Question: if one speaks 2 languages, would you include clips with both languages or separate reels? And if to prepare clips what is the standard naming system?
I personally would have a separate reel for different languages. And the naming systems are different among different customers. I will have agents and clientele who have different naming systems. In general, have the basic title ("Game Demo", Audiobook Demo" "Commercial Demo") and then also include your name in the file name if you are sending them off to people.
Not really, demos are separated by use categories. So, commercial, e-learning, audiobook, video game etc. You don't need to subdivide any further than that.
Great Vid! Do you use real company names in your demo script or replace with a bogus name that you come up with? When doing a demo for Ullta did you actually use Ultas name in the demo? Thanks!!
So I am a little confused is a demo supposed to be comprised of your past work or is it you creating your own script to demonstrate what you can do for a client/industry you would like to work for?
It can be either, if you have a large client and a real spot you did for them then that is great to showcase, otherwise many create demo's of what they are capable of.
It depends on the person, some people just have "the voice" and sometimes agencies will actually prefer them to remain untrained to not impede their natural voiceover. However, it is useful for most people to get a voice over teacher at some point. You don't need one to start out, but it may help further down the line.
I'm pretty sure back then I was using Audacity which is a free editing software. Now I use Adobe Audition which is $21 a month, and I would say the quality difference is noticeable. Adobe is a much better platform to process the audio.
YOUR DEMOS ARE AMAZING IM SCREAMINg
That is very kind thanks!

Great question
this was great, thank you so much
Awesome, thanks again.
Thank you, this information is very helpful! I'm just wondering, what software did you use to make your demos? They sound amazing!:-)
Hi there! Any I made myself I used Audible, I have a tutorial for Audible as well!
@@nastasiamarquez6472 hey, do you mean audacity?
@@DoctorKnotsDE Audacity is an audio recorder and editor software
Can i write a script for a cartoon type of demo, if you know what i mean? Like instead of doing a commercial script could i do a cartoon script?
If your goal is to get into cartoon/animations and that is your strong suit then most definitely. You should be showing off whatever attributes are your strongest!
Thanks alotttt
What video software do you use to produce your videos? I love your videos by the way. Great information. Your my hero
Thanks so much! My sister edits the videos for me and she uses adobe premiere pro!
Nice video - good to the point explanation
Glad you liked it!
Can I use passages from books I own or would is that copyright infringement?
Copyright lasts for 70 years from the author's death.
Can I use sample scripts for my demo?
Do you mix your voice recording and background music by yourself or you just deliver your voice recording alone?
Great info, my issue is getting lost in choosing the gear to use. There’s thousands of options. What’s your setup? Microphone to DAW?
I go a bit more in depth for gear in my "How to become a voice actor" Video. That may help you a bit further! My current gear setup is under the news tab on my website as well if you want more options.

Haha yes I did not anticipate how many people that would scare! Good to note for the future.
@@nastasiamarquez6472 how long have you been doing voiceover work?
Thank you this was super helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
What software program do you make the demo on?
I currently use adobe audition and sometimes outsource to industry professionals for a demo.
what's a spot?
It's a segment in your demo. Say you do a 1 minute demo of a commercial sryle. You might have 3 or 4 different types of styles you want to do. You might do 15 second segment of an upbeat commercial style or another 15 second segment of something more dramatic, and so on.

Only the background music was a bit distractive (loud), although a fun piece :)
I personally would have a separate reel for different languages. And the naming systems are different among different customers. I will have agents and clientele who have different naming systems. wow your website is so organized
Thank you!
This is amazing! Where do you get scripts or do you create them yourself? haha your dog says that's enough.
Hi could u tell who hires voice actors AD Commercial Agents or AD Commercial Production house
Some agencies will have the categories of voice over work on their websites!

Still like the video. Thanks for this. This is pretty much what I did for my Commercial Demo
We be using chatgpt to write our scripts in 2024

It's ironic that the sound quality on this video is so bad for someone that works in the audio industry
