With this, you can create a library of various brushes; splashes, clouds, grass, leaves, bushes, and trees. Even decals such as bolts, rust, nails, stickers, etc. Previously I would always drag in a new image and duplicate it to my needs, dragging lots of different layers around, this is going to change a lot for me.
Really good example, really well explained. Thank you. I am an experienced Photoshop user/instructor and have not used this kind of brush before, but I feel well-equipped to try it out now.

I can't get the brush to keep the texture if I change the size of the brush after a fresh launch of photoshop. If I click another mix brush then come back to that preset it works again, but if I change the size it vanishes. Is making multiple size brushes of the same thing the only way to fix this?
I had the same problem with the brush vanishing. When I selected the option " Load the brush after each stroke" it fixed the problem. Make sure that's enabled when you save the preset.
hi, in your tutorial making waves when it comes to making sure you tick load brush, i cant load brush it only ticks solid colours only it wont put a tick at load brush.
Thank you for the novel selection method using Apply Image repeatedly with different Blend Modes. Stephen do you have other tutorials demonstrating the uses of Apply Image that you can refer us to? Or would you consider making such a tutorial for us?
Hello Stephen, I’m a new subscriber for your channel. My question probably has a very obvious answer but here goes nothing. So, I’ve seen many tutorials on how to create brushes and it’s fairly similar to this process (getting the subject separated from the background using channels), but it’s always with white subjects. I’ve seen lightning, waterfalls, clouds, this beautiful wave breaking of yours but I can’t recall seeing this done with other colors. I’m assuming it’s equally effective as long as you can effectively separate the subject. Is it possible and acceptable with colored subjects or it works well only with contrasty whites? Or do you use a white subject just because it’s faster and easier for UA-cam tutorials purposes?
Hi. Just found this tutorial....I have figured out how to create the mixer brush, however when I save it....( I thought was saved anyway) create a new one... THe first one is gone, and stamps whatever the 2nd one is... Not sure what to do to fix this.... Thanks
Hi! Thank you for this. Can you possibly help me? I have tried doing this but starting with a png that is already cut out, but when I try to make the brush, it works, but part of it is faded out. I've done tried doing it with your steps in the channels as well as alternating the background in channels from white to black and vice versa. No matter what I do, it still is faded out though the original image isn't. Could you possibly do something that you don't take from a photo but is something already an overlay or cut out?
Can someone help me? I'm trying to make a brush with this tool but I have the Alt key set up as a modifier key so I can quickly access the Eyedropper while using the Brush tool; as a result, alt+clicking while using the Mixer Brush Tool simply eyedrops the color. I can't figure out how to change the modifier key settings. What should I do?
Hey great tutorial, but I found it just today. But while saving the brush into tool-preset, PS cc recommended me to save it as a brush preset instead of a tool preset, and I did the same. But when I'm trying to re-use the brush on another document, it just appears as regular round brush and not then I saved. Any workarounds or did I miss something? Thanks again for the great tip.
@@waysfreelance5761 I had the same issue. Even worse in CC2020 the tool preset would not work if I changed the brush size. I solved it by creating a brush preset rather than tool preset. After alt clicking on the image: edit menu-define brush preset. That fixed it. I had to go through the edit menu though, not the brush panel. To use the new brush, activate the mixer brush tool and choose your new brush from the brush panel. Works great. Thank you Stephen for an excellent video.
Never used the mixer brush, but I might start now... cheers!
Brilliant technique Stephen!
Stephen, thank you so much. I great video which I will book mark again to watch. Peace.
Great tunes.
Thank you air.
thanks!

yup!
Yes, this is so good. I was always thinking how awesome it would be if you could create brushes from images and they are saved as images. Thank you.
Such a useful video - many thanks!

when I close photoshop and reopen the tool preset only works in the size it is made. When resizing it disappears. Does this happens to everyone?

Adobe brushes only see black information as the subject to create brushes from.
are you able to do this in krita?
