Christ- this was one of the most useful tutorials!!! I've watched so many videos- but only yours really helped me out!!!
I went on a video binge with these tutorials. You are clear and precise. I went for years in classical painting so switching to digital is quite difficult but these make it seem less intimidating. I look forward to practising with your tutorials :)
Bless your soul. You were straight forward yet very well informed about your tutorial. Thank you; you’ve actually helped my life 😩
Absolutely love Ctrl+Paint tutorials. I have several of the premium vids, and they're just awesome.
This is really helpful! I've watched lots of other tutorials, but this one really helped me understand! Thank you!
Thank you so much :'D. I'm in art school and everyone's just expected to know this stuff. No one teaches the fundamentals, but it's posed an interesting challenge and I've been adapting quickly and teaching myself a lot with my professors help. Anyway, this really met me where I was at, I've been doing a lot of flat shading, but traditional is where my love lies. Been trying to figure out how to blend digitally because thats where the industry is right now for the most part.
You Sir make some of the finest tutorials out there! Well prepared, good looking and helpful, thanks for your effort and keep on the good work!
Thanks! I really appreciate it :)
Since I've delayed putting them on youtube, you'll be seeing a lot more in the near future. There are roughly 250 on Ctrlpaint.com, and soon they'll all be here as well.
I miss Matt so much, he has The best tutorials ever made
Thanks for the video! I've been trying to watch every blending video there is, and you just made the best one! 🙌🏻
ohmygod Where has this video been all my life? ive looked at tutorial and, tutorial and, nothing was helpful. people would make 30 minute videos on how to shade but, the message never got through because they would just go blah blah blah. however, you managed to teach me shading in 4 minutes.
Same here! I also used to firmly believe people just used the smudge tool to blend. Then I got confused as to why all of my art was turning out so blurry and soft edged, even when using a hard brush. Its because the smudge takes away too much of the pigment and just moves it around rather than a smooth blend like this method.
Thank you Ctrl+paint for this great tutorial. After hundreds of videos sourced elsewhere, I finally understand the method from this one 4 minute video.
This is how it is made in traditional painting as well . Great job and well done
This is a painting tutorial where everything is explained clearly!!!
This is what i call a tutorial. 👌
You are so awesome! Thank you so much! Your tutorial is so easy to understand and answer every questions
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial! I finally understood how to blend, now I should go and practice:)
Now THIS is a tutorial 👏👏👏
This was incredibly helpful. Ive been working on showing more facial details when I paint dogs, and this technique really helped me.

Thanks!
thankyou'' i.ll be practicing my techniques
Thanks a lot sir
Thank you for the very helpful video! Could you please explain the purpose of the new layer? Do you create a new layer every time you are about to blend two edges together, or do you just have one 'blended-edges' layer? Are these layers ever combined later on? Thank you!
Cảm ơn anh rất nhiều. thank you very much.
Tutorial is well done! Do you know of a shortcut key to change brush tilt so brush panel doesn't need to remain open?
This is what im looking for 😁
So useful. Suscribed!
Thank you.
Thanks you..
HEy i really appreciate this great tip.
Boy thank you omg
Thanks for sharing..
thanks sir
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I've seen many speed painting and seen that they blend I first thought it was just a blur tool. I tried it... It did not work.
You deserve more credit!
I would like to see a full time video of you creating something and explaining your techniques along the way. It would be awesome!
this was helpful ^^
my god, it worked.
What are your transfer settings for the brush when using this method?
"blending"
create form with perspective > use round brush or "something" to "mark" which to shade > then just go wild with "blending"
that's it
remove the line of the form when needed,
tnx
Hay, I am really a begginer in digital draw, so can you tell me, what kind of brush should i know and have? and where to get them all? I appreciate your response :) (sorry for my bad eng grammar)
what kind of brush did you use?
❤❤❤❤❤
what photoshop brush is that your using please
I love “Blenging”
is it possible to change the angle of the stroke in a more intuitive way? like holding a key ?
I cant find this specific brush in the downloads :[
"basic three brushes" from his website
The worksheet is no longer available?
Anyone know where i can find the worksheet for this?
for some reason none of my brushes "fade out" at the tips.. is it something with the settings??
Necroing this but I have the same problem. Did you fix it?
It has to do with pressure sensitivity, that needs to be checked/ turned on in the settings of the brush tool.
I think that it can only be done with pen tablet.
Is it safe to use the smudge tool to blend or does doing it your way give a better look?
@@nyomnyom7721 "wrong"
Why don't you use the smudge tool or the mixer brush for that? Isn't it faster to blend with that?
you should only rely on those after youve mastered brush blending; you can't expect to be a pro artist and don't know how to blend with a brush, so might as well learn it now
You have a lovely voice
Nice
The video for smudge tool presets says it doesn't exist when i go t o the website
Cant you do this wit lower opacity instead of lower flow? Thank you!
can you???
How do I add this brush to Procreate
What program is that?
you are a legend
do you need to merge the layers before you can blend the colours?
Aikawa Kosuke Not really! You can make a new layer on top. Just make sure the smudge tool has *sample all layers*
I'm guessing the mixer brush didnt exist 6 years ago.
I would’ve liked to see the entire apple maybe sped up at the end.
All my life I've been scrubbing the angle on the brush settings by clicking the word "Angle" and dragging left and right. I never knew that I could click on that thumbnail and rotate it that way.
I didn't know Rob Lowe did art tutorials.

Now these brushes can not be downloaded
God I wish I knew how to make this work on clip studio paint...
Bravo Zulu!!! 😀☘✨
Blenging
i don´t understand how you create mix between colors in spite of having opacity in 100% :c
not positive but I think it's because he reduced the flow of the brush to 60% so less pigment comes out
0:28 this video foreseen the release of overwatch
Normaly I like your videos but this time the **** brush isnt working, if you just had show the options you used (Texture and Shape D) or what brush you was using would be another story.
Blenging?
So un-natural IMO. Soooo much better with intuative blending in something like Corel Painter or Clip Studio. So weird how popular PS is for art. But...it is!
BLENGING VFBRGBRGN
Yes you read it right… its blenging
