I see it making sense. Blue and Yellow counter each other fairly well. Yellow being a dominant force physically, while Blue is a dominant force psychologically, with her emotional abilities. White and Pink feel the same in terms of balance. White is influence by force, while Steven influences through Emotions. It's how Steven were able to convince Yellow and Blue to accept him (through his pink aura), and later able to break through to White.
My favorite episode is Bismuth. In my opinion it is the episode that gives us a look at the mistakes Rose made in her life. That ending line by Bismuth, “Then you really are better than her.” Really defines the fact that even when Steven is seen as a separate person, he will always be compared to Rose and expected to pay for her mistakes. Rose’s scabbard is also an amazing episode.
Bismuth Is actually one of my personal least favorite episodes. Of course It portrays Bismuth as being in the wrong when she wants to kill space fascists. Rose really was the worst.
@@uglyteethbakeryandotherstr7333 I disagree, especially after The Pink Diamond twist. I interpret as Pink/Rose not wanting to make the mess she made even bigger. It's amazing writing.
Amazing? The writing got worse in S4 and 5. The episodes after Steven return to Earth were fucking awful. And the lest said about the stupid finale the better
I feel like I'm the only person who actually liked onion gang 😂😂 but then again I don't rlly have an episode that I disliked at all other than maybe Rocknaldo
I think the worst thing about the Rocknaldo episode was the promotion behind it. Remember Cartoon Network teased the introduction of a new Gem by showing off it's cut?
Personally, I thought you were gonna put a Single Pale Rose as an Honorable mention at least. To me, this episode reveals one of the biggest theorized twists in the show. So many people theorized this only to be debunked then have that debunk debunked! Everything was leading to this and was shocked. It also revealed another aspect of Pearl we never knew, which ties in with the fact that actual Pearls have layers. Pearl's gem has a layer, each representing her most traumatizing moment: Rose deciding to have Steven, the corruption song, Pink's fake shattering, and the decision leading up to that. I feel like there is more layers of grief there but also some good memories she also stores in there. I feel like this episode is one of the best and added some more character to Pearl and indirectly, Rose/Pink. What do you think? Edit: Wow! This is the most likes I've gotten! Thanks!
Personally I didn't like that episode, simply because I hate that the theory of Pink Diamond = Rose actually was true. I found that too easy and completely removed all the tension I could have in this series, like it convinced me that no named character will actually die hence I don't have to worry much about the characters since everything will turn fine in the end.
@@soul6733 That's ok. I respect your opinion. I can get that some people didn't like the episode. Some tension was lost but it was so shocking too. And at least it gave us Ruby and Sapphire's wedding. Reunited is also one of my personal faves.
JAILBREAK IS THE BEST EPISODE IN STEVEN UNIVERSE AND NO ONE CAN CHANGE MY MIND (unless there's a REALLY good one in SU Future) BUT HONESTLY JAILBREAK COULD'NT HAVE BEEN MORE PERFECT. ROSE'S SCABBARD MAKES ME RESPECT PEARL EVEN MORE THAN I ALREADY DO AND IT'S EASILY ON MY TOP 10 FAVORITE EPISODES A SINGLE PALE ROSE WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD AND I LOVED IT SO MUCH IT'S DEFINITELY IN MY TOP 5 Mirror Gem was pretty good Aaaaaaaand you lost me at Mindful Education (sorry)
@@lovedogs8748 JAILBREAK IS THE BEST THANK YOU!!!!!! AND I PUT THE OTHERS BC THEY ARE THE BEST AS WELL!!! But I think mindful education has a good song and I like the message it gives, but it's not that interesting so that's why it's at 5 and not higher.
@@EvilSnips LITERALLY NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT JAILBREAK! Also I understand and respect your opinion for Mindful Education, and it did have a REALLY good message that I love.
I feel that an underlying message in Steven Universe is that you don’t have to forgive everyone. We can see in the Movie and in Change Your Mind that Steven really doesn’t say the words, “I forgive you.” Even his demeanor around the Diamonds shows that he’s very uncomfortable around them and really only tolerated them so they could fix their mistakes. While I feel that the scale of the Diamonds actions muddles the message a bit, I can appreciate the message, “ You don’t have to forgive someone, but you should at least help convince them to fix their fixable mistakes.” This even goes with Pink Diamond as Steven has shown to still have some extreme animosity towards her due to her selfish and harmful actions even though she has done a lot of good.
PhantomStrider I agree with that too. We can probably also probably infer that Steven doesn't forgive them due to his views on shattering a gem. He and Bismuth had a fight over their viewpoints on it. I don't see why people say the Diamonds are forgiven for all that's happened. They clearly aren't due to how everyone was uncomfortable around them at all times. I will admit that the Diamonds felt rushed. They should've dedicated more time to talking them down or trying to change their views. At best, it's done passably with Blue and Yellow. With White, it's rushed at best. Spinel is a better example of reforming a villain due to how they managed her screentime, made her sympathetic with the audience, and was still shown to need a lot of work done before she's all better. I feel that this show needs an example of Ronaldo but on a bigger scale. You can't help or change everyone.
True, that's the message of the song "Change Your Mind". Steven doesn't need everyone to love him, and he doesn't need to love everyone. He just needed the Diamonds to stop hurting him and his friends. There was never any forgiveness involved. Heck, Steven never even forgives Spinel for her actions in the movie.
Thank you! I’m glad someone pointed it out. And really think about it for a sec: Steven basically has a planet-sized army ready to serve him at his will! I know people argued that the Diamonds should be shut off or even shattered, but it honestly sounds like a waste for everyone. I wouldn’t say the Diamonds are redeemed, but are becoming influenced. But yeah, I do agree that White’s breakdown is a lot more rushed. I kind of wish the Crewniverse took more time for it to incubate.
I was actually really happy to not see "Say Uncle" on a worst list for once. I get it, Uncle Grandpa wasn't a very good cartoon, the episode added nothing to the show, etc etc. But, as UG himself said toward the start of the episode, "none of this is canon." It's just...dumb fun, and sure enough it was full of pretty hilarious jokes and gags. It did what it was meant to do and I'd say it did a damn good job doing it, too. That said, I probably agree with Escapism being the worst episode...I got so bored watching it the first time I almost wanted to just not even finish.
Agree wholeheartedly on the Say Uncle bit. I feel like when you don't take it seriously and just have fun with it, it's a really funny episode. And even if you're not into the humor, I still think there's a lot worse in there.
@@TheGerkuman Plus, it really helped the cool off after the intensity that was The Return and Jailbreak for the show to have a little bit of fun with itself.
I actually enjoyed the Say uncle episode, is a funny episode On that note, I used to watch Uncle Grandpa with my dad all the time, he likes shows with lots of jokes and nonsense 🤣
@@grubblebubble217 Sadie:good,no one actually watched me basically Tourture children! She actually forced Steven and Lars to stay on an Island, without real food, beds,or houses That's compared to a teenager getting a bid annoyed that he's STUCK ON AN ISLAND!
Escapism isn’t necessarily a bad episode but it came at the WORST time. I understand it has a lot of interesting symbolism in it but it’s hard to focus on that when the episode has to do with non talking sentient watermelons. I wish I could have focused on the symbolism and stuff but sense I was biting my nails to get to the finale I couldn’t really focus on WATERMELONS.
I'm kinda inbetween strider's and Lea's opinions - I agree with lea that there needed to be a calm before the storm. Avatar did this with a re-cap of all things (which is 99% impossible to do entertainingly, but it did it) so it's not like I mind a slow episode before a huge conclusion. BUT - I agree with Strider in that the watermelons (past S1) just aren't interesting. This may as well have been a ronaldo episode in terms of enjoyment. Sure, the timing didn't help either, but fact of the matter is that I feel they have plenty of characters in the non-main case they coulda used to portray the same metaphors this episode did. example: do something involving Lars and the Off-colors (something completely left out of in the conclusion) and have them rendevouz with Bismuth/Lapis/Peridot to inflinitrate Homeworld. They take advantage of the dissarray to gain the trust of other wary HW gems like the Jades that have underlying thoughts about the culture. They create a small kurfluffle that lets the earth team free Stevonnie. That way we get new stuff, action for the "Crystal Temps", the moral on how some people can change and how others can't as easily change (if at all).
@@raze2012_ I agree with you. After sooooo many episodes focused on Steven it's imposible for the crewniverse do something that isn't centered on the protagonist. I also would loved that this episode had focused on Steven & Connie or Stevonnie instead and see they actually SING scapism (which is a beautiful song and I felt is was kind wasted)
Escapism should have been mostly replaced with a Bismuth, Lapis and Peridot episode where we see them reform, make up, and repair the arm ships. Steven could still have been there as a watermelon Steven so we still get his point of view.
*_For some reasons, "Keep Beach City Weird" is basically just Ghost Adventures in a nutshell. At least the haunted show was way better than the actual episode._*
I liked Escapism I thought it was a decent episode It showed how Steven contacted his dad and Bismuth. I also liked how his dad and Bismuth were interacting with each other, those are the last 2 characters I would've ever predicted interacting with each other.
Not really. There are some bad gem related episodes. "Tiger Philantropist" was boring and only restated information that we already knew. "Lion 4" was only important since they showed where Pink's legship was. There are plenty of good townie episodes. "Beach Party" was hilarious for example.
@@reasyrandom I've just never been a fan of the 'down to earth' stuff. No matter how hard I've tried, I've always found it dull and uninteresting. I know other people enjoy that stuff, but it's always left me cold. So if my mind is closed, it's not for lack of trying.
I think episodes like “When it Rains”, Catch and Release, “It could have been great”, “mirror gem and ocean gem” and “beta and earthlings” are all fantastic episodes as well and some of my favorites
While I agree with most of this list, I honestly disagree about Onion Gang; while it's not the best episode, to me, it was the first glimpse for me that Onion was something other than a sociopathic demon child. He has friends and to me, the entire episode felt like Onion just...relaxing with people he can understand while trying to make Steven understand his weird habits, or maybe justifying them. "See, there are other people that act exactly like me! I'm not the weird one!" Or something like that. At the end of it, I honestly wanted to give Onion a hug.
Plus, there was a ton of foreshadowing in this episode. If you take Onion as White Diamond, then Soup is Blue Diamond, Squash is Yellow Diamond, and Garbanzo and Pinto are Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz. They even replay out Pink Diamond's "shattering".
@@theoneonyoutube4925 the scene where their cart crashes into a bench and Garbonzo falls and "dies" and everything was "just a big joke". That foreshadows the Pink Shattering being faked.
My least favorite was “frybo” ya know- when Steven takes off all his clothes to fight a living mascot. Eh, I had to pick a least favorite and decided why not that one? And I liked island adventure. It wasn’t one of my favorites, but I guess I just like Sadie enough to like pretty much any episode she’s in.
Trust me, I'm a fan of Island Adventure myself. Such a great portrayal of teenage angst and how society enforces certain attitudes on people. Was Sadie being pretty unhealthy in forcing Lars into shit? Sure. But people do that and it's realistic. Making everyone only do healthy, good things isn't how you make a good character lol.
I love how strider is able to see the shows from someone else's perspective. He doesn't try to force his ideas on anyone and he doesn't surround himself with like minded people or "Yes men" hes willing to clab with those who disagree with him even listen to their opinions and hear their POV. It's quite amazing and show cases how debates are done properly by talking out their opinions and trying to understand each others POV instead of calling each other names like children.
Personally, escapism is one of my favorite episodes of Steven universe. 1. A majority of the episode is done without any talking, just using physical expressions. 2. I personally was actually interested in the watermelon Steven society. 3. I didn’t realize as much of the symbolism the first time I watched it, but enjoyed that aspect more after rewatching it. 4. The final song was pretty good. Sure, it wasn’t what some people were expecting from it, but I still thought it was a nice song the way it was done.
@@BlueBladerBot aquamarine was only there for like I think 2 episodes so who rlly cares and Kevin is pretty much getting embarrassed and ridiculed at the end of each episode he's in because well he's meant to be disliked. Ronaldo on the other hand is supposed to be an enjoyable likeable character
I got a bit fed up with this series once it started to get into the "peace, love, and understanding conquers all" ideologies. Look, I get that not every enemy you face is a complete monster. But they do exist, and sometimes peace, love, and understanding just isn't enough. Avatar: The Last Airbender had no shortage of villains who were just people doing what they thought was right, or lashing out because of their own pain, but it also had Admiral Zhao and Fire Lord Ozai.
@@critica77y77 While I think this may be an unpopular opinion, I can honestly see Jasper as one such character, simply because it'd be very difficult to truly redeem her; and that isn't even going into how she likely feels about the crystal gems, having been their enemy for so long now.
23:22 I've never really understood why people take such issue with Lapis treating Peridot so badly in this episode. For one the thing, the last time these two saw each other, they weren't exactly friends to begin with, so Lapis not wanting anything to do with Peridot is understandable. The fact that Lapis wants to be left alone in general is understandable. But the biggest difference is that unlike Steven and the others, Lapis was not there to witness Peridot's change and growth as a character. From POV, Peridot is the same person as before. I'm not saying Lapis isn't harsh, but would it have been better if she and Peridot became instant friends?
I think a really big thing people take issue with is how Lapis destroys Peridot's tape recorder that he gives her. It was a significant gesture and it meant a lot to Peridot as an outsider coming to a foreign world, who is quickly accepted by Steven in comparison to her old life at Homeworld. While Lapis might not know this explicitly, it rubbed many people the wrong way including me. I suffer from mental illnesses but don't use it as an excuse to treat people badly because I've had bad experiences in the past. This might be due to Lapis' trust issues however but I feel the writers (if this were true) could have got Lapis to apologise to Peridot and not have this treatment continue without comment (therefore justifying it). Obviously I respect your opinion though.
@@izzy-gb8us That's kinda the lesson Lapis is supposed to learn going forward. To open up and trust people again. To me, Lapis has that dark edge to get character. If not for Steven and Peridot efforts, she could have turned into a very cruel person. This even reflects in Lapis relationship with Jasper who encouraged Lapis worst impluses. It makes sense for Lapis starting from the bottom up to be a little harsh. I definitely prefer over her and Peridot just accepting one another without issue
@@ShinobiPXO I agree somewhat and I think it does offer a good conflict- I just think the writers took it too far. Peridot is portrayed as so extremely infatuated with Lapis to the point where her negative qualities go overlooked and at some points revered. Lapis doesn't mirror these feelings even a little bit. I don't know why people ship it seeing as the relationship is so onesided. There was always just this underlying meanness and even cruelty or sadism to Lapis that never was resolved. Remember, Lapis almost drowned Steven and Connie and when asked about it says that oh well I almost drown a lot of people. Lapis gets away with this though because Steven likes her, so that means the audience must like her too. Again, some tension I can handle, this just felt to me a little mean spirited, especially for a children's show. Keep in mind though I stopped watching after the trial because of the hiatus and never got back into it because I was in grade 10 of highschool and just couldn't be bothered with the varying (in my opinion) quality of episodes and the messages that were being taught.
@@izzy-gb8us Well to be fair I never saw it as mean spirited. I just saw it as Lapis wanting to be left alone. Mean spirited would Lapis just taking the recorder and breaking it without provocation. As for the drowning the world part, Lapis was just in a lot of emotional stress at that point and was clearly not thinking straight. She wouldn't have reached Homeworld with the worlds ocean. Once Steven healed her she calmed down. Again I'm not saying it wasn't cruel what she did to Peridot but I don't see it as inconsistent with Lapis character
@@ShinobiPXO I'm not super sure what Lapis' provocation was though, and Steven and Connie are literal children and fairly helpless at this point- I can suspend my disbelief in magical space lesbians for sure but not really for their motivations which are inconsistent with a morally just character who we're supposed to view as such. I also don't think its inconsistent with her character- I never really liked or understood Lapis and she never deviated from that for me.
Regarding Dewey Wins, I'm among the few people who found Connie's anger a little...unjustified. What else was Steven supposed to do, if not turn himself in; just let Aquamarine and Topaz take them all away? Connie's gotta realize that Steven's life isn't some thrill ride or a game. Sometimes, you have to make hard choices; in order to keep the people you love safe
@Steven Universe Another good idea would've been if someone explained to her that sometimes, people must make difficult choices to protect others; even if it means sacrificing themselves
Why am I the only one to understand the conflict between Steven and Connie in Dewey Wins? Connie was disappointed that Steven would just surrender like that and Steven thought it was the brave thing to do to save his friends. What I didn't understand is why Connie took Steven's lion. I literally didn't see what was the point. Shouldn't Steven had been like, "um, that's my lion, bitch."
Fun fact: Deedee Magno Hall, (the voice of pearl) went so hard on it's over isn't it that that they had to re-do the animation for that seen, (which is why the animatic is different from the finished product).
@@randomjunkies6022 For me personally, I liked that arc because it allowed Lars to be redeemed. I didn't really like him much up until "The Good Lars" started to show a different side to him, and seeing him be redeemed and become a better person was very satisfying to see.
What about Stuck Together? That one REALLY shined a light on Lars character, and I couldn't help but feel his disappointment in himself in that episode!
He couldn't make a worst list back then, because Season 4 and 5 didn't come out yet. I still love Season 5, but I also agree that the Diamond redemption was rushed to hell and back. I'm glad that Strider still acknowledges that the episode as a whole was fantastic.
Great list as always, Strider! Despite several people’s feelings on SU, it’ll always be a series that I adore, and I personally feel like the good episodes highly outweigh the bad ones. And even then, the bad ones aren’t unwatchable or anything, but just not the usual quality from the series that we’d come to expect. Some of my personal favorites include Mindful Education, Lars’s Head, Alone Together, Mr. Greg and The Answer.
I gotta say, Change your mind is my favorite, because seeing Blue Diamond realize how much she hurt Pink and accept it and be sorry about that? As an abuse victim that was so important to me. To watch an abuser not only be extremely regretful and sorry about what they did, but also make an effort to be a better person was so satisfying and reassuring. And the rest of the episode is great too.
I love how in your videos you always have a positive ending and in the beginning you always make it 100 percent sure that it is okay if you have a different opinion
Can you take a look a the "Yellow Submarine" movie from 1968? Trust me, you'll love it. *EDIT:* Holy crab-legs! I don't think I've gotten so many likes on any of my comments in my life! Thanks, guys! XD
the 3 unique episodes that make me feel strong emotions are: "a single pale rose" that think make me scream and shake "so many birthdays" I cry a lot whit that episode, just looking how Steven was dying was horrible. And "made of honor" it was just beautiful
The episode "Mindful Education" hit me hard, as a person whose regret past actions, I felt like Connie in that episode, thanks, for showing me that alot of people, even fictional people have even dealt with that problem to.
I really really liked Escapism, it was very calming especially to have it so close to the finale. I like how the contrast of emotions are. And I love the song.
I actually quite like Zoltron and Escapism. I agree that Mr. Smiley is what makes the episode difficult though, but I really liked Steven trying to bring happiness to Mr. Frowney (a character I hate to admit I relate to often.....) as it was very nice and wholesome. Garnet's future vision works pretty well in this one too! As for Escapism, I feel it is easily the most overhated episode of the series. Yeah its definitely a letdown and a big change from the current events of the series, but I felt it was absolutely necessary. All the crazy stuff going on Homeworld was getting really intense and an episode that backed away from it all just felt.....refreshing. I can see why it didn't work for most, but I quite appreciated it even though I'm in the minority. :) My bottom 5 would probably have to be: 5: Cat fingers (this one just makes me uncomfortable) 4: Barn mates (Lapis' spitefulness is incredibly irritating to watch) 3: Tiger Philanthropist (I felt this one was boring. Didn't really do anything that "Tiger Millionaire" didn't do better) 2: Onion Gang (Agree with most everything you said. It's just really pointless, though I did like the message at the end about having to say goodbye to summer friends. I felt this would be better in "Craig of the creek" than Steven Universe) 1: Rocknaldo (Yeah it's definitely my least favorite. I understood what they were going for with it and respect that, but it didn't change the fact that it felt like a punishment for the whole fanbase for a few bad apples. Easily skippable, but I'd recommend one viewing to see what you really think about it, if it's really that bad. Cause even the worst episode of this show wasn't THAT bad in my opinion.....) I can't pick a best, this would probably be a top 100 list if I were to rank them! :) I feel Change your mind is getting more hate than it deserves for "redeeming the diamonds" when I think the whole point was for Steven to find the non-violent solution to the problem that he'd been facing the entire time. People are quick to call the crew "Nazi sympathisers" for this, but I really don't think that's what's going on here in the slightest. So I'm kind of upset so many people have taken a distaste to "Change your mind"......
I must be honest, I’m genuinely surprised Jailbreak didn’t even make an honorable mention. That incredible reveal, introducing Jasper, learning more about the stakes of these new gems arriving on Earth, etc. Not to mention, it had one of the show’s most iconic songs heh.
I agree with Lea on Change your Mind and Reunited. Those episodes made my heart thump out of my chest... but then the movie came along and said “hold my beer” and made me legit cry. I’ve been emotionally distraught and attatched to the movie ever since. I love He songs, the characters, the animation, the story... everything!

I remember, years ago when we were super exited because of the barn mates clip, now we are by the new intro after the movie... amazing how times change
Steven Universe is.... a mixed bag, honestly the movie is a perfect representation of the show, a lot of poor writing decisions, but great character interactions, music, and backgrounds. The storytelling and pacing can be off and lackluster, but it can also be really good (Spinel is the best example of good villain writing in the show). The animation can be lazy and off putting (which it really isn't at all in the movie but it is in the show) or it can be phenomenal, lively, and perfect for each scene, which is an element I feel the movie did well. But enough about that, My picks: WORST: 5. Gemcation: Bleh. Waste of time in a bad arc that was pointless 4. Fusion Cuisine: This episode is just one big bruh moment 3. Dewey Wins: yet another insufferable and dumb episode that was honestly more annoying than usual because of Steven 2. Rocknaldo: yeah everything you said 1. Onion Gang: everything you said DM: Change Your Mind: As an episode itself, this ruins a lot of the series, but there is a lot to appreciate as individual elements, so it's not among the worst Escapism: Everything you said, except the song, I like the song Any of the bad or boring filler episodes Now We're Only Falling Apart: just a mostly pointless episode that tries to save Pink Diamond's character somewhat but fails Most of season 1 for just feeling weak and lame when looking at the series as a whole Drop Beat Dad: Meh, at least this episode helped to set up Mr. Greg BEST: 5. Mindful Education: Yeah I don't care what Lily whatsername says this episode is fantastic 4. Earthlings: I loved how this episode was the culmination in a way of Amethyst's relationship with both Steven and Jasper 3. Too Short to Ride: Just a really charming and kind of beautiful Peridot episode 2. Jailbreak: Practically every aspect of this episode is well handled and the tone is portrayed flawlessly 1. Mr. Greg: Yeah this is one of my favorite cartoon episodes of all time, despite Pearl and Greg's love for such a terrible person, everything is so expertly crafted and I adore it. The songs, the setting, the tone, everything. HM: Ocean Gem: The aesthetic is beautiful and this showed Lapis' potential that she somewhat lived up to Can't Go Back: yet another strong Lapis episode, but it's really only here because of the song Steven's Dream: Blue Diamond's presence makes this episode amazing on it's own Last One Out of Beach City: So much fun The Trial: great build up, atmosphere, and stakes Jungle Moon: Loved the alien world, and the backstory element added that extra relevance That Will Be All: The aesthetic and song is amazing, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing
Yeah, because she is. She's supportive, but stern when she needs to be. But she's not resentful like Pearl, nor is she irresponsible like Amethyst. And she still manages to be an interesting character despite being "perfect". She's easily my favorite of the Crystal Gems, even though I love all of them.
PhantomStrider could make "Top 5 Worst Crest Animation Productions Movies", probably in the early 2020s. *This may be how that list of his is going to look like.* 5. The Swan Princess (original trilogy) 4. Alpha & Omega 3. Alpha & Omega sequels 2. The Swan Princess CGI sequels 1. Norm of the North franchise (originally, PhantomStrider stated that Norm of the North is not THAT bad, just forgettable kiddie. But maybe nowadays, that might be why PhantomStrider will end up hating the franchise with a burning passion. Because it is way worse than just painfully average)
Ok, I kind of love Escapism. Even tho it’s not my favorite episode, the song was just sooo perfect. Also, am I the only one who thinks the Watermelon Steven’s are cute?
I really love how brave SU is for tackling topics like depression, anxiety, and even trauma in a kid’s show. It helped so many people understand their issues and emotions, including me.
Off Colors made me cry, fear, and cheer during it. The soundtrack was amazing with the tensity and eerie feeling. The off colored gems was so interesting and I loved what disability they referenced. But Lars' death stabbed me hard in the heart, I legit thought Lars was done for
What bothers me even more on the "rocknaldo" episode is the audience reaction. Crying about how this Ronaldo didn't became an actual crystal gem and it contributed nothing to arc.... while totally ignoring the actual message. Ronaldo felt to me like an SJW. Pretending to fight for a good cause while actually just doing it to make himself feel super special and actually causing more trouble with his doings. Which (if I remember right) showed even better when he was complaining about Connie being part of the gems. I still hate this episode (actual the whole character of Ronaldo) but it still surprises me that to that day no one recognized the actual message and complains about something that... like... seriously? Does anyone actually wants this guy to be an actual member of the crystal gems.. for fuck sake, even his gem name. Bloodstone. Like an edgy sonic OC.
Maybe you missed the hype for this episode? Before the episode came out, the crewniverse hinted on twitter about a new crystal gem, even illustrating a bloodstone in the SU style. I don't think people are complaining about Ronaldo not becoming a crystal gem, but rather the lack of a new crystal gem in the first place.
I actually like escapism as an episode. I feel like the major reason that people disliked it is because of the timing, but after viewing and analyzing it more after the ''finale'', it actually got a lot more interesting and I feel like it became more clear what the episode was about. Watermelon Steven represents Steven (obviously), but I think that the two tribes actually stand for the two main parties in this series: The Crystal gems and Homeworld. One of the melon tribes is peaceful and pacifistic (Crystal gems) and the other one more diplomatic and violent (diamonds). It's only when they work together that Steven can get to beach city (Homeworld) and save the day. Also the biggest threat in this episode that really doesn't side with either parties is a great WHITE shark ;)
Rocknaldo is a blessing and a curse. The blessing: More time to see Ronaldo interact with Steven and the gems. The curse: Ronaldo’s in character the entire time.
the small character's whistle reminds me of the heartbreaking of the moment that Yuna in Final Fantasy X whistles towards the ocean waiting in deep grief for Tidus.
White diamond: I am perfection, I am unbeatable!
Steven: emotion
White diamond: Dang, you right.
Evil Ight imma head out
This is it done right in my opinion:
While diamond: I am perfection and unbeatable
*Steven used emotion*
*its super effective*
I see it making sense. Blue and Yellow counter each other fairly well. Yellow being a dominant force physically, while Blue is a dominant force psychologically, with her emotional abilities. White and Pink feel the same in terms of balance. White is influence by force, while Steven influences through Emotions. It's how Steven were able to convince Yellow and Blue to accept him (through his pink aura), and later able to break through to White.
I mean, It's not wrong
fun fact: Ignatz is the worst archer
My favorite episode is Bismuth. In my opinion it is the episode that gives us a look at the mistakes Rose made in her life. That ending line by Bismuth, “Then you really are better than her.” Really defines the fact that even when Steven is seen as a separate person, he will always be compared to Rose and expected to pay for her mistakes.
Rose’s scabbard is also an amazing episode.
Bismuth is also one of my favorite episode.
Bismuth Is actually one of my personal least favorite episodes. Of course It portrays Bismuth as being in the wrong when she wants to kill space fascists. Rose really was the worst.
The episode is even better after you watch the show further.
@@uglyteethbakeryandotherstr7333 I disagree, especially after The Pink Diamond twist. I interpret as Pink/Rose not wanting to make the mess she made even bigger. It's amazing writing.

I agree. I would argue the previous genocide of the diamonds is unforgivable.
Yes I agree!! Sure their redeemed but not forgiving!! That makes sense now

I'm kinda inbetween strider's and Lea's opinions
- I agree with lea that there needed to be a calm before the storm. Avatar did this with a re-cap of all things (which is 99% impossible to do entertainingly, but it did it) so it's not like I mind a slow episode before a huge conclusion. BUT
- I agree with Strider in that the watermelons (past S1) just aren't interesting.

While I agree with most of this list, I honestly disagree about Onion Gang; while it's not the best episode, to me, it was the first glimpse for me that Onion was something other than a sociopathic demon child.

But they do exist, and sometimes peace, love, and understanding just isn't enough. Avatar: The Last Airbender had no shortage of villains who were just people doing what they thought was right, or lashing out because of their own pain, but it also had Admiral Zhao and Fire Lord Ozai.

I love the Beatles and their movies
I personally liked "Escapism" for the most adorable scenes including the only two scenes with Steven and Connie.
for fucks sake im so relieved someone likes the same 2 scenes i love in escapism, and its why i watch that episode alone
i love escapism is a greath episode fits perfect in the diamond history
the 3 unique episodes that make me feel strong emotions are: "a single pale rose" that think make me scream and shake
"so many birthdays" I cry a lot whit that episode, just looking how Steven was dying was horrible.
And "made of honor" it was just beautiful
So many birthdays was a sad AF episode, every time I watched it I teared up or cried
The episode "Mindful Education" hit me hard, as a person whose regret past actions, I felt like Connie in that episode, thanks, for showing me that alot of people, even fictional people have even dealt with that problem to.
Steven Universe taught me some valuable life lessons.

the episode mindful education actually made me cry bc everything
I really really liked Escapism, it was very calming especially to have it so close to the finale. I like how the contrast of emotions are. And I love the song.
I have a question for you Strider, do you watch 'Camp Camp' and what do you think of it?
I didn't even know this was something I wanted the answer to
I know rwby
My bottom 5 would probably have to be:
5: Cat fingers (this one just makes me uncomfortable)
4: Barn mates (Lapis' spitefulness is incredibly irritating to watch)
3: Tiger Philanthropist (I felt this one was boring. Didn't really do anything that "Tiger Millionaire" didn't do better)
2: Onion Gang (Agree with most everything you said. It's just really pointless, though I did like the message at the end about having to say goodbye to summer friends. I felt this would be better in "Craig of the creek" than Steven Universe)
1: Rocknaldo (Yeah it's definitely my least favorite. I understood what they were going for with it and respect that, but it didn't change the fact that it felt like a punishment for the whole fanbase for a few bad apples. Easily skippable, but I'd recommend one viewing to see what you really think about it, if it's really that bad. Cause even the worst episode of this show wasn't THAT bad in my opinion.....)
I can't pick a best, this would probably be a top 100 list if I were to rank them! :)
I feel Change your mind is getting more hate than it deserves for "redeeming the diamonds" when I think the whole point was for Steven to find the non-violent solution to the problem that he'd been facing the entire time. People are quick to call the crew "Nazi sympathisers" for this, but I really don't think that's what's going on here in the slightest. So I'm kind of upset so many people have taken a distaste to "Change your mind"......
All right I’m exciting in watching this now.😀👍🏻

Benjamin Avila oh ok lol
I must be honest, I’m genuinely surprised Jailbreak didn’t even make an honorable mention. That incredible reveal, introducing Jasper, learning more about the stakes of these new gems arriving on Earth, etc. Not to mention, it had one of the show’s most iconic songs heh.
Rose’s scabbard is my favorite, it’s also the first time I cries in a Steven Universe episode

I agree with Lea on Change your Mind and Reunited. Those episodes made my heart thump out of my chest... but then the movie came along and said “hold my beer” and made me legit cry. I loved that trio. Lars climbed up to the top ranks of my favorite human characters, right behind greg imo
Shryotz only took him to die to become a likable character for me
Steven Universe is.... a mixed bag, honestly the movie is a perfect representation of the show, a lot of poor writing decisions, but great character interactions, music, and backgrounds. But enough about that, My picks:
WORST:
5. Gemcation: Bleh. Waste of time in a bad arc that was pointless
4. Fusion Cuisine: This episode is just one big bruh moment
3. Dewey Wins: yet another insufferable and dumb episode that was honestly more annoying than usual because of Steven
2. Rocknaldo: yeah everything you said
1. Onion Gang: everything you said
DM:
Change Your Mind: As an episode itself, this ruins a lot of the series, but there is a lot to appreciate as individual elements, so it's not among the worst
Escapism: Everything you said, except the song, I like the song
Any of the bad or boring filler episodes
Now We're Only Falling Apart: just a mostly pointless episode that tries to save Pink Diamond's character somewhat but fails
Most of season 1 for just feeling weak and lame when looking at the series as a whole
Drop Beat Dad: Meh, at least this episode helped to set up Mr. Greg
BEST:
5. Mindful Education: Yeah I don't care what Lily whatsername says this episode is fantastic
4. Earthlings: I loved how this episode was the culmination in a way of Amethyst's relationship with both Steven and Jasper
3. Too Short to Ride: Just a really charming and kind of beautiful Peridot episode
2. Jailbreak: Practically every aspect of this episode is well handled and the tone is portrayed flawlessly
1. Mr. Greg: Yeah this is one of my favorite cartoon episodes of all time, despite Pearl and Greg's love for such a terrible person, everything is so expertly crafted and I adore it. The songs, the setting, the tone, everything.
HM:
Ocean Gem: The aesthetic is beautiful and this showed Lapis' potential that she somewhat lived up to
Can't Go Back: yet another strong Lapis episode, but it's really only here because of the song
Steven's Dream: Blue Diamond's presence makes this episode amazing on it's own
Last One Out of Beach City: So much fun
The Trial: great build up, atmosphere, and stakes
Jungle Moon: Loved the alien world, and the backstory element added that extra relevance
That Will Be All: The aesthetic and song is amazing, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing
That bitch actually criticized Mindful Education?!
And people still took her seriously?!
My faith in humanity died a little just now.

Yeah, because she is.
She's supportive, but stern when she needs to be. But she's not resentful like Pearl, nor is she irresponsible like Amethyst. And she still manages to be an interesting character despite being "perfect".

Off Colors made me cry, fear, and cheer during it. The soundtrack was amazing with the tensity and eerie feeling. The off colored gems was so interesting and I loved what disability they referenced. But Lars' death stabbed me hard in the heart, I legit thought Lars was done for

Such a calm discussion between two opinions. We need more of this.
Two of my favorite SU speaker in one video. Good strike strider.

I understand why people don't like Lapis but she really has gotten better so she doesn't deserve it anymore.
Hi Strider! I'm glad you got Leah for this video cause we both have autism! Great video!
Literally my favourite line in all of Steven Universe
"Well... I think you're pretty great."
Why on Earth do people give Lars a hard time for the episode where Sadie is holding him captive?
Maybe because he did more unlikeable things than Sadie that episode. Quantity over quality of their actions I guess.
