    I used to live on supplements because I thought it was necessary for good health. And as a result I was always dealing with gastrointestinal problems and other issues from the junk that was included in the ingredients until finally I asked myself why the hell am I doing this.

    In 2020, I started taking collagen drinks from a Japanese brand and I didn’t (or never) encountered any problems at all. No gut issues, nothing. The next year, I started changing my lifestyle to do keto and intermittent fasting. I experienced quite severe constipation for the first month but after that, everything went normal. Last November, I decided to try the Vital Proteins collagen, the standard Blue bottle one (I took a break the Japanese collagen), and immediately I experienced constipation, and gained weight in the first month. I stopped and went back to the Japanese collagen and voila… no more constipation. And lost weight. I think I better stick to the Japanese collagen, for now.

    as a Nurse Practitioner, you should not take any OTC supplement nonstop for 18 months - supplements act differently on different people, start with a 1/4 of the dose, any adverse reactions will
    be more mild then if you jump right in, slowly increase, take "drug holidays" a- even with prescription meds "always take the LEAST" amount to get the desired effect, we are a country of more is better - I have patients on 10 mg of Prozac that are doing amazing but my collegues all insist to start on 20 mg. per day not taking into account the 100 hr. half life

      As a Nurse Practitionist, you're totally wrong. You should take supplements constantly and forever and disregard otc or utc advisement. If you cannot get a specific supplement becuase of perscription restrictions, use online pharmacies to get it from overseas! I am one of her patients on 10 mg of prozac and have since upped it to 200 mg.

    I have tried both the original Vital Proteins and the Sparkle with Verisol. I didn't have any gut issues with either, but my "side effects" from the Sparkle have been great! My hair is growing really thick and fast, my nails are super strong, and I think my joints feel a bit better. I wish I'd taken some before pics of my face and thighs to see if it's helping with wrinkles and cellulite. It seems like I noticed a difference starting about month 4, but it's hard to say for certain.

      @@mirasingh7428 the biggest changes I've noticed are with my hair and nails. My nails are super strong now, and my hair is growing really fast. My skin also looks really soft - but I just reached menopause recently, during the same year I started collagen. I can really see the post-menopause wrinkles forming - so I think the collagen is helping, but can't quite keep up with how fast my body is aging. My skin is very clear and bright though - it doesn't have that dry, ashy look people sometimes start to get after menopause.

    I got really excited by the things I saw with the blue Vital Collagen Peptides. I’ve had problems most of my life with gut problems until I was diagnosed with wheat sensitivity. I was also recently diagnosed with CKD. Shortly after starting the Collagen I started having stomach problems. Then my body was acting like my kidneys were acting up. I didn’t connect the two for almost a week. I thought the things I was eating were contaminated some how. I decided to stop the Collagen and a couple days later all was fine. The I read about the possible side effects and knew it was the problem. I think the possible side effects should be made more talked about.

    What about the heavy metal claims? I really want to try this product but I'm really worried.

    • @JTJaredTaylor
      @JTJaredTaylor  9 місяців тому +4

      Hi nonameiiii,
      That's a valid question. I know in California there's a warning label on the container but I haven't done extensive research into it.
      I'm not a doctor and nothing I say should ever be considered medical advice. That said, I personally don't worry about it. Their products have been around since 2013. So 10 years?
      Many people have been taking them for long periods of time. I would imagine if there were serious issues we would have heard about them.
      The difficult thing is that if any product comes from our environment there is a chance that it contains lead or some other undesirable substance. Heavy metals like lead, arsenic, or mercury are in the rocks, soil, grass, and trees.
      I have done some research and found that common drinking water has significantly more arsenic than most collagen powders. And most fish contain more mercury.
      If you live in the state of California (I grew up there) you will see a warning on the label of many many products. Including some toys. You will even see a sign at Disneyland saying that the resort itself "contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm."
      The problem with the label is that it doesn't quantify that risk. I'm not saying that the warning statement is false or irrelevant. I personally just choose not to worry about it. Much in the same way I'm not going to avoid Disneyland. Just my opinion. I sure hope that helps.

    So I started taking garden of life grass fed 20g collagen peptides with probiotics (mixed in hot green tea) and I'm experiencing uncomfortable & quite visible bloating, even weight gain (1-2 lbs) & moderate constipation. I'd really like to continue to see if collagen yields claimed benefits, but not at the expense of this daily bloating.
    Suggestions before I quit?
    * Reduce about by half?
    * Use without probiotics (I've consistently taken probiotics before collagen) or will this issue likely pass with continued use?
    Thank you for your time, I do appreciate any feedback.

Another verisol product that I had tried was Vital Proteins gummies (dark blue, sold at CVS and Target, runs about $17). You might try that and see if it is an issue? Once I changed my diet (in my case I did Keto. Keto with lots of vegetables I should add) my IBS cleared up. I would also highly recommend a book called "Clean" by Dr Alejandro Junger. This outlines something called an elimination diet. I did this before going keto and it made a significant difference. Hope that helps.

    Since Vital Proteins makes 2 versions of that "Standard" version, with and without Hyaluronic Acid, do you have any comparison videos of the two?

    • @JTJaredTaylor
      @JTJaredTaylor  Рік тому +1

      I don't have a comparison video of the two but I am currently working on a video about hyaluronic acid. I personally don't believe that collagen + hyaluronic acid products have enough hyaluronic acid. Even Vital proteins. I'm not saying it would hurt to take it. It would still be beneficial but I personally would want to (and do) supplement with hyaluronic acid separately and in addition to taking collagen. This way I can make sure I'm getting at least 200mg of hyaluronic acid which seems to be the generally recommended dose.

    Hi JT! I used your discount code and got nmn 300 to start and want to thank you for that and also ask you if by any chance you know if i can take it with NAC? I started nac a month ago and want to continue taking it. 😊 thank you so much!!

      Hi April! Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I'm excited for you and I'm glad you were able to save a little money. I hesitate to comment on taking both NMN and NAC together since I don't take NAC currently. That said, my understanding is that NMN and NAC do different things in the body. NMN is a precursor to NAD and NAC is a precursor to glutathione. You should be okay taking them both but I would suggest doing more research until you feel comfortable doing so. I hope that helps. Sorry I can't give you a more direct answer. Thanks again.

      Probably the best option would be to order it from them directly if they deliver to your area. Or try amazon.

      @@Arceej249 You can. I usually take it in the morning in a greens and berry shake which is basically my breakfast. Sometimes I just add it to an herbal tea and take it around the same time I eat. It doesn't HAVE to be taken with a meal but you can. In short it doesn't matter so much if you take it with a meal or not. Just pick a time that you are most likely to take it consistently and do that. Hope that helps.

    just eat meat. It doesn't make sense to me to buy any protein mixture. Collagen is protein. Protein has to be split into amino acids and then reconstructed in the body part. So eating collagen doesn't just plug that collagen into the body. Anyway...

    • @Biohacker24
      @Biohacker24 Рік тому +4

      So with this thinking, why not just eat rice protein and expect to build muscle? The amino profile is important for determining the effects it will signal in the body. Additionally the body can and does absorb small peptides and does not fully break down all proteins before absorption so these peptides can also act as signals for certain processes in the body like collagen synthesis or reducing collagen breakdown processes for example.
