      Clearly Triumph have not. For years we wanted an RS version with better suspension and brakes. We got that but not with a budget off centre dash, a more cramped riding position and a massive price hike. That is not what we asked for.

    The Speed Twin RS in U.S money is $18'473. My new Thruxton R with the Triumph quarter fairing, Vance & Hines exhaust, tec bike cam installed, DNKtune and Michelin Road 6s installed is $17,702. My bike has 101 rwhp which is probably more than the Speed Twin RS plus I have nicer instruments.
    I understand the purpose for the original 1200 Speed Twin but turning the RS into Thruxton R lite doesn't ring my bell. I'd rather they just improved the suspension of regular Speed Twin and kept it more comfortable with dual instruments. To me the new Speed Twin RS is less than the older Speed Twin and the defunct Thruxton RS.

    I own a ‘24 Kawasaki Z900 rs and it has analog speedo and tach, an in-line 4 cylinder motor with 4-1 exhaust. Modern updates include: liquid cooling, fuel injection, traction control, and a mono-shock. It’s fast, nimble and could be the perfect bike. Plus it was only about US $ 12,500 😎

    • @DrNioky

    The dash is horrible, ugly, cheap looking and asymmetrical. Who the hell at Triumph HQ are signing off on these design briefs? Huge swing and miss Triumph on what could have been a best seller model if it had asthetically beautiful clocks and cruise control as standard.

    • @FunWithAJ
      @FunWithAJ Місяць тому +9

      Agreed. Was told by someone at Triumph HQ that they did the offset clock to allow it easier for people to add GPS or phones on the opposite side. I call bs bad design is bad design.

      Triumph could redeem themseves and offer an classic styled accessory gauge cluster. Truth is people looking seriously at this machine would buy it. BMW have been offering a similar option on some of the classic themed models but come standard with classic guages, with a TFT screen as optional replacement.

    • @trevorphillips3055
      @trevorphillips3055 Місяць тому +3

      @@TheOzbernieIt would be interesting to know how many people spec the tft on the bmw as a percentage of sales. Maybe triumph should of done the same to test the market, not just force it.

    The Speed Twin has just become waaay to expensive for what it is. And don't get me started about that clock.. The Yamaha XSR 900 has the same tech, more power, less weight and a similar design language with a modern digital display and is cheaper!
    The Kawa Z900RS is about what the Speed Twin used to be. Retro Bike, great looks (twin clocks) and more than a enough power.

    That trident 660 dash is horrendous looking for me. Bring back the old twin clocks.

  • @fyorbane
    @fyorbane Місяць тому +14

    I understand the dash thing but fitting a budget one from the 660 is a parts bin no no and no matter how much Triumph try to spin it they could and should have fitted a better quality centralised one, say similar to the lovely looking one on the latest Indian FTR 1200. There is no excuse for Triumph's cost cutting here and charging a whopping 14.5 k for it. Triumph need to do better. The competition is so strong in this sector now Triumph need to be more honest with the price. The Z900 rs se is very similar in spec and weight but costs less and looks nicer especially with those lovely analogue twin clocks.

    Clocks, tank size, price. Buy a 2023 model and upgrade suspension. Also the clock/ignition cluster is offset, which looks shit. Oh and as you got me going, the paint scheme is trying too hard on the RS and childish on the standard model. You ain't getting my money, Triumph.

      I have the same dash on my Trident. Not the most exciting, not affected by the sun, shows everything you need to see, uncomplicated and clear and is cool to look at in the dark.
      I sat on one a Motorcycle live, lovely bike but I agree with you, the switchgear isn't premium enough, it's just lifted from the cheaper Trident.

    • @surdzo
      @surdzo Місяць тому +1

      @ it suits Trident, just fine, but it is out of place on Speed Twin / Bonneville style of motorcycle, it is my opinion and as I can see majority of enthusiasts share the same.
      It is not too late for Triumph to change decision or at least to offer proper gauge to whole lineup. Im pretty sure that they will sell few of new dash if any. And Im also pretty sure that if they stay stubborn they will lose huge amount of potential buyers new as well as old ones.
      Will see, time will tell.

    No cruise control? That's the biggest reason I won't buy it! My Scrambler 1200 XE has it, why can't this? Post right wrist surgery, cruise control is the only way I can do any lengthy ride without suffering for days afterwards. Not a fan of the offset clocks or colour schemes. A friend has a '24 Speed Twin and the ergo's are a bit upright, this should be interesting to compare...

    As many others have already said, the single digital clock is a cheap step backwards and it being offset is odd. We spend a lot of time looking at the gauges on a bike while riding. I prefer the classic dual clocks over this. Also, the paint scheme with the RS and funky stripes detract from the lines of the bike in a bad way.

While Im happy i have both bikes i think Triumph has lost its prime unfortunatelym theyve ruined ruined the brand by designing this bike with an offset single clock, horrid headlight and insane price for what theyre offering. Theyve completely ditched the classic in modern classic. I suppose its time that RE dethrone them across the board. Sad to say app of this but mark my words this will sell worse than either the current st or thruxton.

    I prefer the original before they moved to upside down forks. Since then, i’ve struggled with seeing the later revisions getting more modern styling cues, namely random bolt on plasticky looking bits. I still think the T120 is the best looking naked modern classic. I do know one thing though, it will be a fantastic bike to ride!! All Triumphs are.

    I've watched 'the' three reviews (so far) on the new ST 1200, and as yet, no one has given much focus on the sound, which is an important factor imho... Being an owner of the Gen 2, which has bags of character; a chorus of pops and burbles, especially off throttle, down hill etc, so I am very interested to learn more about the sound coming from this Gen 3/Euro 5.5 version???

    Bolt nice bits to what looks increasingly like a vintage flavoured UJM? Between this and them flooding the market with cheap 400s, Triumph is losing that premium, distinct brand image.

      They've seemed to have ditched classic as a brand and went with oddly modern. Someone asked why they did this on their insta feed yesterday and they legit responded "if you want classic go look at the t120". They've lost it.

    These new Speed Twins just don't look properly Retro enough anymore like the early models. Lost the gorgeous twin clocks for a plastic digital screen. Plasticy cheap looking grey headlight bezel. Uglier tank paint jobs with hideous giant cutouts in the front so they can fit the new inverted front forks that just look out of place on a retro rather than the classic upright forks with some fork boots. Should have just kept the truly retro styling of the early models and given it better components that don't take away from the look.
    Why would I spend $15,000 + for these when I can get a used 2019-2021 Speed Twin that looks so much better and performs 90% as well for half the price. Throw on some upgraded shocks and some better brakes and now I have a Speed Twin that performs 95% as well and looks 10 times better.

    I used to have an XJR 1300 SP which I think is a very similar bike. I loved the look of the thing but it never seemed to do anything perfectly except sit there and look great. On long runs the lack of a fairing made it painful. It had loads of power but anything above 70mph felt like you'd were using gym equipment. City commutes were what killed it for me though as you felt there was a continual battle going on beneath the seat between inertia and power. In the wet the rear end would spin up and the front always wanted to slide. I'd guess ABS and modern technology improves things but I'll not get another litre plus naked bike. Obviously YMMV.
