The TM creators wanted Axel to become the main character after TM1. Its why Sweettooth is not on the main roster in TM2. But in Black they realized that Sweet Tooth was the iconic character and needed the love.

I want to add something to Sweettooth: If you die as Sweettooth (especially at the game over screen) the head of the ice cream truck plummet straight down and just stares at you. It's so creepy and I love it.
Playing as roadkill also has the benefit of not having to fight him during the run. Some characters end up being pretty weak when used by the cpu (since it would go from being a hard game to unfun if the cpu could use crazy 8's aimed special), but roadkill isn't one of them, the computer nails the highest damage timing on the special very often.
If I'm not mistaken CPU Roadkill will always fire the full powered special without even charging.
Axel is actually the best character in the game according to the competitive community his second special negates 50% of all incoming damage he can dodge stuff easier than other characters as well. His first special weapon goes through walls and it has an infinite vertical range so for instance if someone is above you on the boat in blackfield asylum he can hit you if you are on the floor above him in twisted Metal black online his second special does something crazy like negate 75% of incoming damage or something like that

Quick disclaimer! I forgot to mention Axel's second special involving his wheels that cover his body and he can run over enemies to do damage, however that still wouldn't change my mind to keep him in the B tier rating.
BUT after watching the video again I feel I was a bit too harsh on Warthog and I would truthfully move him up to an A tier rating.

If I'm not mistaken, Outlaw's special missile spam only happens to the cars in front of you marked by his laser. since he aims all over the place automatically that can hurt his special damage output.
This is my all time favorite version of Sweet Tooth hands down.

I like how in Twisted Metal PS3 Junkyard dog throws cars at people. If they did that for this game, he would've seemed way less generic.
Would you believe that Warthog is using the same station wagon The Joneses was driving in TM4? And mounts the station wagon onto tank chassis
Something you didn't bring up is a quirk with Brimstone's special is the fact you can't use any other main weapons while the little man is out, which granted isn't exclusive to him but it certainly hurts him even more with having such a low damage special it definitely cements him as being the worse car in the game if nothing else the worse medium weight.
Crazy 8 was always my favorite car design and character but when I learned how insane his charged special is it made me like him even more.

9:10 According to some facts shown in the Sweet Tour mode in Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition, Crazy 8's car was originally designed to be an old police car for Outlaw before they decided to make Outlaw a SWAT van, but they reused the design to make Crazy 8.
Finally some Spectre love, also my favorite car in all of them. Looking forward to your Head-On tiers, great video!

Brimstone special goes through shields on anyone but minion and Warhawk. I have been hit by it before,during and after using shield. No matter what it goes through,so I tried it myself(hard to test but if they get low,they shield). It definitely goes through shields

Nice video. You also forgot to mention with Axel that he has an alternate special where he pulls his tires together and when you run into your opponent it crushes them causing an insane amount of damage it's basically Axel's version of hammerhead's special in this game and also Crazy 8's max damage taser where when it switches to purple and you tap the button as fast as you can it melts the enemies health instantly, but I understand that talking about all these characters at once can cause anyone to forget a couple of points here and there. I do respect your opinion of each character and love the amount of time and effort you put into this video. Thank you very much.
I remember when I played TM2 with the TMA guys a few years back, the topic came up of TMB and how Axel was pretty much *God*
very pleased Roadkill places pretty high in this game
You can quickly do multiple attacks with Axel's special. His speed and maneuverability lets you dodge taking damage while charging them up, then charge into a fight and hit several specials at once. This will do a ton of damage and often take out everyone around you. This was a very cheap move that was frowned upon by the online community back in the day.

I feel this list was harsh on Junkyard Dog. His armor is great to have when there's so much damage flying everywhere and the handling is pretty good. Speed-wise idk, I was very ok with it.
Also a bit weird how Roadkill and Shadow basically had the same arguments going for them but then they're 2 tiers apart.

THIS TIER LIST IS BASED PURELY OFF OF HOW WELL THE VEHICLES PERFORM DURING THEIR SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN IN MY EXPERIENCE. I'VE BEATEN THE GAME ON NORMAL MODE WITH EVERY CHARACTER.

S TIER
Minion - Minion is broken. You need to beat the game with every other character to unlock him and it makes sense why. He's the only playable boss character and it shows. Nigh-unkillable with a special that rips opponents apart if they're anywhere near you without even needing to aim. Speed and handling are absolute garbage but it makes sense for a big tanker. Very easy way to turn your brain off and win.
A TIER
Roadkill - The best thing about playing as Roadkill is it removes him from the AI opponents. That seriously is a large advantage. But outside of that, he is insanely strong. Fast, well-armored, handles decent enough, and his special can chunk an enemie's health bar in seconds. Outside of Minion, Roadkill has probably THE strongest special. Even if you're not reaching Max Damage, as long as it's fully charged, you're gonna deal about half of an opponent's health. also the missiles home in. why.
Sweet Tooth - The most simple pick up and play character. He's very heavily armored with a decent speed stat and powerful special weapon. He handles like a bar of soap but it's not too big of a deal. His special can rip opponents apart so long as you actually hit the 10 missile bonus, which is quite easy.
Manslaughter - You don't die as this character. Your opponents do. Manslaughter is similar to Minion in that you're not going anywhere fast but you're able to rip opponents apart very easily. His special is deceptively strong, especially at longer ranges, and can do 2/3rds of a foe's health at the right angle. He can even drop rocks behind him as a trap for pursuers. Overall very strong character.
B TIER
Spectre - Most of the other glass canon characters in this game are difficult to use. Not Spectre. She can hit-and-run like nobody else. Her ghost missile homes in, travels through walls, and does a decent chunk of damage. The biggest issue is that because of the speed of this game, she can be kept up with and if she gets caught out without a shield, you're probably dead.
Shadow - Shadow is an all-around fine vehicle. Balanced stats with an alright special. So why is she this high? Her alternate special. By pressing Up-Up-Up on the D-PAD with her special equipped, you bring out a machine gun and auto-fire at opponents. This special does INSANE damage and tracks quite well. It compliments her regular special which can be used to pick off injured opponents quite easily.
Junkyard Dog - JD is similar to Sweet Tooth in that he's quite easy to use, heavily armored, his special hits hard, and he controls poorly. The major difference to me is that JD struggles a lot more against Minion and Warhawk simply because of how his special works. He rips up regular levels quite well but it can be a pain to beat the final boss with him.
Outlaw - Outlaw is another very easy to use character. His special does well enough on its own but by rapidly slamming the trigger while it's going, you can fire missiles at any cars in front of you. His special was already quite damaging and this just bumps that firepower up even more. He's also surprisingly well versed in his other stats. However he ranks at this point simply because the cars above him all have a more potent strength. Outlaw is a jack of all trades. You won't struggle with him but you won't be breaking any records either.
C TIER
Mr. Grim - The essential glass Canon to the extreme. Grim is the fastest character in the game with a brutally powerful special. However, his special isn't THE strongest. Characters like Minion, Manslaughter, Shadow, and Crazy 8 can deal more damage. Thanks to the speed of the game as well, his special is infinitely harder to land. They regenerate quickly but you're going to need to do a lot of hitting and running with Grim if you want to survive, especially in the latter half of the game.
Crazy 8 - Another generally balanced character who's best attribute is their special. The main difference is in the work it requires to recieve maximum damage off of C8's special. First you charge up by triple tapping the D-Pad in the direction of the enemy. Then you launch the special. Then you have to keep your opponent in range while mashing the fire button. It doesn't sound like much and you can get used to it, but C8 is very middling in all of his other stats. High ceiling, low floor.
Axel - Axel is a very confusing character to place for me. His special is fine. His handling is phenomenal. His speed is alright. His armor is lacking. Where the real meat for Axel is comes from his alternate special. Pressing up on the D-PAD three times while equipped with his special allows him to pull the wheels together and basically turn into a giant wrecking ball. This actually reduces damage taken and can cause massive ram damage. However his problem is very similar to Yellow Jacket's. It's hard to hit someone! He has more options than YJ though and that's why he sits above that character.
Yellow Jacket - This is probably the placement I'm saddest about. YJ is one of my favorite characters in the game. He's not particularly bad at anything, I just believe the game is too fast for him. His armor, speed, and handling are nothing too exceptional but nothing too bad either. His special has a high ceiling. YJ has spikes protrude from his car that can be fired off for a bit of damage or can be used to ram into someone. The issue is: it's hard to ram someone! The game is too fast to rely on it. Not to mention, AI opponents are very good at freezing as you approach so you'd better have a shield ready. The damage is worth the risk but it's just a very inconsistent way to play the game. Not to mention cars on Freeway and Highway Loop will eat the special if you have it equipped.
D TIER
Darkside - This hurts. Dollface is my favorite driver in the game and Darkside may be my favorite car aesthetically. But the truth is, she just isn't great in single player. Her special is very bad against the two bosses and it runs into the same problem as Axel and Yellow Jacket. In a game with a bad freeze and fast opponents, ramming just isn't the best option. Her special is better used as a utility to get away quick or catch up with foes. Darkside doesn't do much else aside from just tank, so you won't really die with her often. She's just a worse Junkyard Dog or Sweet Tooth to me.
Warthog - This guy is weird. He's surprisingly fast for a heavily armored vehicle, but to compensate he has a special weapon that damn near requires you to freeze someone to use effectively. Warthog's flamethrower barely lasts any time at all and does next to no damage unless you hold the flame on someone long enough. And again, that's not easy in this game. It's even harder than ramming someone because that only requires a single hit. This requires continuous fire. Everything about this character is quite good aside from his special but unfortunately, specials make or break characters.
F TIER
Brimstone - Genuinely the worst character in the game. His armor is non-existant, feeling about as frail as Spectre. His handling is slippery. His top speed is quite alright but not what you'd expect for a glass Canon type character. But the REAL offense is his special. Brimstone launches a sinner strapped with explosives from the front of his vehicle. The tracking on this attack is VERY poor. It's hard to land the shot but if you do, you aren't allowed to use any other weapons for a solid two seconds. The sinner has to attach to the enemy car, yell "Repent!", and then explode before you're allowed to fire ANY other weapon. The damage is alright at best but the fact the game locks you out from using other weapons while this special is hitting is like punishment. It sucks too because Brimstone's vehicle and character are some of the coolest on their respective categories. He's just made of paper with a special that actively punishes you for landing it.
I've lost a lot of lives due to being at 40 or 50% health and suddenly instantly dying because I didn't realize one of the enemies near me was Roadkill.
The beta design of spectre is better than the final design because it resembles to corvette instead of an old toyota celica we just get. The corvette design of spectre appears in the cutscene and menu
Yellow jacket is definitely my s tier haha 😂 turbo ram with his special can be devastating
Shadow alt special is for tight compact fight. Use it in congested spots. Still my fav character to play in both two and black
S: Minion, Roadkill, Mr Grimm
A: Manslaughter, Shadow, Junkyard Dog, Sweet Tooth
B: Warthog, Outlaw, Spectre
C: Darkside, YellowJacket, Axel
D: Brimstone, Crazy 8
But overall, I really enjoy playing as almost every character in this game. All have their uses and can be a lot fun.
I like how they took the mech idea with sweet tooth and rolled with it in twisted metal ps3. I feel as though he is even darker in that game

Shadow has a third special aswell that's just the second but a little different if you hold down l2, l1, r2, and r1, then press triangle three times
Sweet tooth's special is, as far as I know, zoomy missiles. Roadkill is my favorite vehicle and I play a lot as him,but as far as I remember roadkill has the third worst armor even Brimstone has more armor (but I'm not sure). Roadkill's special is more accurate than a fire missile, I think is even more accurate than a homing missile (I'm not sure about this either). My favorites vehicles in the game are roadkill, spectre, sweet tooth. I also play from time to time as Darkside, Outlaw, Mr. Grimm and crazy 8 (I love crazy 8's special but I'm not that good using it at its maximum potential, and I also love crazy 8's story). You forgot to mention Axel also has a secondary special that is activated the same way you activate Shadow's secondary special.
Oddly enough this is my favorite one of the whole series

I first played this game on ps2 and I couldn’t unlock axel because I couldn’t shoot it down even on the smaller vehicles

In Warthog's stats you incorrectly stated he has 40% speed when it is actually displayed as 50% speed if you take a closer look at them.

Usually not a fan of Spectre, but design-wise I like Spectre in Black the most. Idk why but I just like how flat it looks in the game, also it kinda resembles to corvette c3
Imagine having a new online tm game where different vehicles become "broken" or "meta" and you'd just get to enjoy all vehicles over the course of the game.
.Junkyard Dog: While not my favorites ones because of it's slow speed and that the armor feels weak, it's special it's pretty good, it's like a gas can except a bit stronger. I like it's design too since it's a repairing truck vehicle it would be cool if it's special relied on collecting car parts and use them as weapons. I am surprised that this vehicle appear in TM 2012.

. Brimstone: I have quite fun playing Brimstone due to it's speed and handling, it's design it's pretty cool as it well armored with a wooden cross but its special is not that unique or good. It would have been better if the special is actually firing a cross at the opponent, pretty metal if you ask me LOL.

.Outlaw: Very cool to play as and it's special it's pretty unique and awesome though its not as strong as it is. I like the idea of a Swat Huv to give a more different approach compare to other variants and it has decent handling and armor.

.Mr.Grimm: I like this version because of it's story and speed, but his handling feels awkward and it's special may be strong but it's difficulty to aim. Overall it's a cool character to play.

.Roadkill: Pretty good car to use but it's design feels similar to it's TM2 counterpart, without having any armorwd spikes to give a reasonable purpose of calling it Roadkill, it's handling and speed is great and it's special it's badass.

.Crazy 8: I enjoy playing this vehicle because of it's speed and its design being a type racing dune buggy type car but it's special can be difficult to use because it has to be connected to the other opponents to zap them but it does quite a lot of damage.

.Spectre: One of my favorites in the game, it's design may not be too dynamic but it's special is one of the strongest in the game and it always never misses it's target unless it's far away or if the vehicle runs fast enough. It's speed and handling are outstanding, one of the best vehicles in TM Black

.Darkside: I found this version enjoyable to play but it's design feels bulky and not as dynamic as it's TM1 counterpart or as decent as it's TM3 counterpart. At least it's special fits him very well but it would be more effective if instead of destroyed cop car used as bump barrier it should have been spikes to give a more sinister approach. It's speed and handling are the same: slow and stiff. Pretty ok to play as but it could be better.

. Shadow: Awesome vehicle to play since it's speed and handling are an improvement over it's TM2 counterpart. I love it's design as it's more balanced and not bulky as it's TM2 self. It's special it's effective and it's secondary one it's awesome.

. Yellow jacket: I didn't like too much it's special in this one because it feels weak compare to it's TM1 counterpart. Despite this, it's design it's pretty dynamic and it's speed and handling are excellent. One of my favorites next to Spectre and Shadow.

. Axel: Its design it's one of the best ones in the game and one of the most painful ones to see because of it's feet, it's special it's still weak but it's secondary one it's much better. It's speed it's great but weak armor. The only thing i don't like about Axel is unlocking him.

.Warthog: Looks unique and cool to play but for some reason I feel like this vehicle is awkward to play simply because of it's handling and special, what i don't like about this one it's that it's called Warthog, even though it has nothing to do with it military counterpart. Did you know that it was originally called White Knight? I am sure i would to love to see that name in another TM game.

. Manslaughter: it's basically Darkside but with a more tricky special to use since it's rocks expands the farther it goes and it can be difficult to hit cars at long distance. Despite this, it looks alright.

Sweet Tooth: I frickin love Sweet Tooth in this game, it's special is one of the badass things that i have seen but it can be a bit difficult to land 20 hit on a car because the opponents move fast. It's design is pretty dynamic and sinister (especially it's head). The second best vehicle in TM Black and my fourth favorite one.

. Minion: I like Minion in this game but, like Warthog, it doesn't feel like the Minion i know it feels like an successor. Its design it's pretty neat, it's speed is alright and handling ok but it's special and armor are quite strong. If it have an alternative name i would called it Juggernaut or Inferno.

Did you know there's a way to make the driver of Shadow topless during her alt special. Hold down all 4 shoulder buttons and press triangle triangle triangle.
I think it's easy to imagine stars rating like from 70 to 85 is 4 stars, 90+ 5 stars etc. So Roadkil 4-4-3-4
I know it's hard to judge fairy. But, i think armor means more to me than you and speed means more to you than me. I would never consider any of heavy armored ones under a B rating. And i would never give a low armor guy an S or even an A because of the fact that if you tried playing the game on higher difficulties have fun searching for health 80 percent of the time and worrying about dying instead of actually getting to fight for a while before worrying about health.... but otherwise i did agree with a lot you said.

I don't know if it's just my copy of Black (I doubt it, it's digital) but Brimstone's special seems to bug out and not deal any damage 8 times out of 10. I never play Brimstone but if he's my opponent I feel safe knowing I'm basically fighting someone without a special.
Follow up: I can't agree with you on Warthog, his Special is absolutely busted. You can see in the clip you show that it deals like 70% of that dude's life bar with just one instance of it. It also auto aims to nearby enemies and sets them on fire. I honestly think his special is even better than Sweet Tooth's, at least his gives you a sound cue so you can start running.
Unlocking minion in black was the worst part about the game 😂

With Twisted Metal (in my opinion) the Vehicles ARE characters just as much as the people behind the wheel. But I can understand the confusion

I don't wanna send any hate because you seem like a good guy but as an onlooker from the competitive scene... this list is really rough. Would definitely recommend you play TMBO with us sometime, personally, it became my favorite game and I never really returned to single player because of it.
No offense taken! Yeah this list was 100% from a single-player view only. I might make a TM Black Online version Tier List sometime in the future for sure!

TMBO is very very complex, it would take a long while to even begin making a tier list so I definitely wouldn't make that until you've gotten years of experience and understanding of the game. It would also be preferred if you play with and speak with veteran players (like myself) before even thinking of doing such a tier list. Either way...TMBO is special and unparalleled.

I personally would also factor in the character stories into my tier list if I made one. For example, Dollface would gain some points since she is one of the most innocent characters with my favorite development despite it being downgraded from the original draft of her being tormented by her dad. I don't like Bloody Mary so she would be ranked slightly down on account of being uninteresting for my taste, which is a shame since her gameplay is pretty fun.
