I’ve said it before, I’m apprehensive about a new Twisted Metal game. Imagine the company trying to up their ESG score by putting all the drivers in electric vehicles that take 20 minutes to charge.
Everytime I see small brawl, I cannot get over the stuttery bad frames of the game. It really turns me off from giving it a try, despite all its strengths.
Yep and the Levels seem unfinished, or half-assed in design I really wondered how a finished game can be like that also the Presentation is shitty I mean how had is it to make good Title screens and menus Jeezus
We all have our own opinions, so here are mine; my rankings - 9. TM 4 (D grade): 4 is fine for what it is and isn't a bad game, it's just not a good "Twisted Metal" game. It's too far removed from the rest of the series, too off the rails and outlandish with everything new 989 tried to cram into it for me to appreciate it as part of the TM series. 8. TM 3 (C grade): 989 had it somewhat right with TM 3. Compared to 4, it's boosted up two grades for them making the effort to make it fit in with the rest of the series as an attempted sequel to TM2, but is dropped a grade to C for how terrible and juvenile its character stories and ending are. 7. TM '95 (B grade): As good as a start to the series as we could hope for. The way the game controls is jank but I find it charming enough to still enjoy it. I love it for how strongly and how well they establish the world and characters of TM. 6. TM Lost (B grade): Ranked separately from Head-On because I feel like the Lost content is unique enough to do so. Lost functions well and it's really cool to see what the cancelled Harbor City could have been like, it's just a shame that this is all there is and we never got anything more to follow up from Black (not counting Harbor City betas on PC). 5. Small Brawl (B grade): Small Brawl is a lot of fun and I love how they translate TM from full-scale battles to RC cars. Level design is great, but to nitpick: I'm not a fan of a handful of the car designs, some feeling rushed or not thought out enough, very little of the vehicles' specials feel impactful or memorable, and some aspects of the game's overall presentation doesn't feel done well enough. 4. TM Head-On (B grade): HO is a cool combination of Black's gameplay with being a storyline sequel to TM2, but it's not as good as either for one reason that sticks with me: it's too dang easy. The vehicle upgrades make you too overpowered, combined with not facing very many enemies per level makes the lack of difficulty memorable in a bad way. 3. TM 2 (A grade): My opinion the best PS1 TM game and the one I played most as a kid, by choice. My nostalgic favorite, TM2 has my favorite character roster, a great art style with memorable endings, and a way that it blended perfectly its bright and colorful tone on the surface with the dark, violent, twisted reality of its world that lied underneath. The gameplay improved on from TM1 in every way, and has so much about it that's good that I can forgive how screwy the difficulty can be sometimes. 2. TM2012 (A grade): On PS3, easily the best that the gameplay has ever been. By far the funnest to play because of that. The difficulty is balanced well, the tone of the game is good embracing its "M" rating, visually it's beautiful; it's just a shame about it's story mode - with only 3 characters played in a linear fashion, it really lacks in replay value, story-mode wise. The cutscenes are made really well, but the endings are predictable. And the boss fights in story mode are atrocious. 1. TM Black (S grade): Black is perfectly what TM should be. Dark, gritty, violent, grounded, dramatic, stories that last longer than thirty seconds, challenging but not too difficult, I could go on. Black is the perfect package of tone, setting, story, and gameplay. Supremely memorable down to every story beat, every quote, and every part of every level along the way. Easily the best overall TM experience one can delve into.
Props for being so bold with your appreciation of Small Brawl. I played it a lot as a kid but have barely touched it since. That may have to change soon, but here's my raw list just based on my current feelings. 1. TM2 2. TM Black 3. TM Head On 4. TM4 5. TM Small Brawl 6. TM1 7. TM3 TM 2012 is still the only one I haven't played, I never owned a PS3 and it never felt worth it to fork out the money for one even though it looked like a really fun game. One of these days I'll have to give it a try.
If you ever get a PS3 and pick up 2012, head on over to our Twisted Metal Federation discord to join us for online game nights! It's easy to setup and it's free!
idk about the best overall but TM2012 had the best gameplay for me and TM4 and TM:SB had the most fun for me. as for the rest i never played them before and probably never will. i never a fan of TM:Black before because the cars are too fast require larger map thus many open spaces just not for my liking and no one sells them copies here 😭, i like TM:Lost a lot because it is slower and more realistic to my liking, I'll give TM:Black a try someday.
1)Head On 2)Black 3)2012 4)Twisted Metal 3 5)Small Brawl 6)Twisted Metal 4 7)Twisted Metal 2 8)Twisted Metal Commend you for not caving and putting the earlier games higher, the controls are really a big barrier for entry imo.
I've been playing them since they came out and I get it, but im pretty good at the controls. I can make sweet tooth for the most part control like someone with tight handling
@@Dreeza68955 I’m sure if I had played PS1 as a kid I wouldn’t be in this situation, and I’m sure there are games I grew up with as a kid like StarFox 64 that other people would feel the same about. Literally just the controls hold me back lol but power to those who can play them
Just beat small brawl with every character on hard its a okay game the weapons homing is trash and the the travel time of weapons is to slow as well the game is just slow overall i had more fun with tm 4. Tmhead on just feels generic i wish i could like it but besides the character endings the gameplay and levels dont have soul and they are too easy TM2 is great but i play hard clunky control games all the time because i collect retro games so i can master games like tm2 I think tm1 has more fun combat than small brawl but the ramming is too unforgiving in 1 and rear fire is hard not to play with For me from what ive played this is my list so far 8: Twisted Metal Head On ( 100% Completed) 7. Twisted Metal 3 6.Twisted Metal Small Brawl ( 100% Completed weapons are too inaccurate and matches last too long especially bosses) 5. Twisted Metal 1(tm 3 and 1 are the ones that ill probably move lower or higher at some point) 4. Twisted Metal 4 ( 100% Completed underrated twisted metal party game with unique levels and the biggest pickup weapon selection in the series) 3. Twisted Metal PS3 ( great game with great levels but the characters are generic compared to older tm games) 2. Twisted Metal 2 ( this game and black have the most soul out of every game the color palette is amazing and its just really iconic game can be unfair but when you destroy things in this game its so satisfying) 1. Twisted Metal Black ( 100% completed just a game with really good stories and weapon physics level design etc. Just so fun to play this i like a challenge too so i have a lot of fun playing through this game)
I woulda put tm3, tm1, tm4, small brawl, tm2, head on, and black , for their gameplay, innovation, story, and how fun it is to play and how challenging they are (head on is notoriously easy but still fun)
From worst to best my FAVORITE (not better, just a matter of personal taste): 1, Black, 3, 2012, 4, 2, Small Brawl, Head-on. I NEVER return to 1. Black color pallet makes the game too boring to play for long periods of time to me. And the tone is a little too serious for a Twisted Metal game in my opinion. 3 endings are shit, and it's annoying turning over all the time. Also, Club Kid is a crime. 2012 has great asthetics. I just didn't played it much to be nostalgic over it. 4 is great... But it has one major flaw in my opinion, too much charaters with similar or identical specials. Also bad re-designs such as Grim and Minion. And it lacks my favorite car, Spectre. 2 is amazing. I can't complain about it. It has it's defects, but it's prime Twisted Metal gameplay and story telling. Small Brawl has awsome levels and a great gameplay. Most of the endings are fun for a less mature game hehe Head-on is to me 2 on steroids. It's the best game by virtue of being a continuation of the best game before it (not counting Small). The only issue I have with it is the lack of Minion. I consider it the real Twsited Metal 3 hehe PS: I HATE holand in 2 for being boring. I love moscow for being a great arena for 1x1 PVP hehe
Black is good but gets boring fast. TM1 is the best all-round TM2 is good but overrated. 3 and 4 suck but 4 has value for its # of levels and soundtrack is dope
My main disagreement is at Head-On. The Ps2 version looks hideous in comparison to the PSP version. It has this weird candy coating that looks so gross to me. That said, my tier list... 9: TM3 8: TM2012 7: TM2 6: TM1 5: Head-On Ps2 4: TM4 3: Head-On PSP 2: Small Brawl 1: Black
Oh boy lol...I love you Nick and I'm sorry for what the world might possibly unleash upon you 😂. That being said you made great points and obviously the only thing I'd vocally disagree with is your TM2 placement.. But as the saying goes "Opinions are like assholes; everybody has one and they usually stink"
My ranking (I won't be including 3, 4 and Small Brawl. They weren't released overseas so I haven't been able to play them): 5. TM 1995: Fun, but extremely outdated compared to the sequels. 4. TM 2: Good game and a big improvement over the first game, but the physics are too bouncy and the ai keeps spamming freeze missile. 3. TM Head On: Probably the game I have the most nostalgia for. The levels are great, I like a lot of the music, the controls are extremely smooth and game has my favourite challenge mode due to being able to add duplicates. Though the game is too easy and lacks depth compared to Black and 2012. If you want more challenge I recommend playing challenge mode and selecting Dark Tooth as a opponent. Sidenote, the final boss is harder on the PSP version due to him having a extra attack. The napalm weapon is also too overpowered in the PS2, due to it always doing 20 damage, while the PSP napalm depends on distance. 2. TM 2012: I love this game. The gameplay is phenomenal, the music is fantastic (original and licensed) and the levels are fantastic. The only reasons why this game isn't first is because of the recycled specials and glitches (like junkyard dog's cars falling through the floor and remote bombs through wall). 1. TM Black: The gameplay is basically perfect in my eyes. Gone is the jankiness of 1995 and 2, freeze missile spam is no longer a problem. The level design is phenomenal, the roster is amazing (my favourite in the series) and gameplay is full of depth. Keep in mind that I played the European version, so I am not taking the story into account.
Question for anyone in the comment section. What control schemes do you guys use? I've always picked Run n' Gun since it most resembles modern day driving controls.
I commend you for your conviction, even if I don't agree with your choices - especially ranking 2 beneath 3 and 4, which I think are not only the worst Twisted Metal games, but some of the most atrocious games I've ever played.
On the point of Black's movement being too difficult to control is honestly an opinion because I think most people who play don't use the normal/emergency break. I see people just hit the gas an just go forward without any control. The game can move AMAZINGLY and I can not hype enough how good it feels to put your focus and skill on movement alone.
Useless facts: Small Brawl is the only game where Twister, Crimson Fury, and Spectre, who are usually the fastest car in their own respective games, are all present. And Crimson Fury is faster than Twister
8)TM 2012: Thought it was a huge let down for having only a few characters and the stupid racing levels 7) TM 3. We all know why 6) TM 1: Didn't play it until after years of playing 2-4. 5) Small Brawl: Only played a few times. It's okay. 4) TM Head On: PSP 3) TM 4: Everything but the endings was great 2) TM Black: Perfect 1) TM 2: I cant think of one bad thing(I'm very very biased)
I love that Small Brawl gets the praise it deserves here, imo its the friendliest game to get into the series with. Not just visually, but with gameplay too! As an avid fan SB frustrates me the least. Great vid!
Twisted metal:black and twisted metal 2012 (I don't have a favorite, but any of these two is my favorite)>twisted metal 1, 2, 4, small brawl and head-on (also don't have a preference between any of these although 4 and small brawl were my favorites as a kid and I think 2 is the best between these even though I don't have a preference)>twisted metal 3 (the absolute worst for me).
I would love if they made a twisted metal small black …. Rc cars in dark horror movie setting like Forrest’s and grave yards and barns… you name it, I like the feeling more of being and rc car , the perspective is to fun
Love the honesty behind this list. For me personally in order from BEST to WORST (I'm counting Lost Separate from Head-On due to the balance differences, and roster differences): 1. TM:Black 2. TM4 3. TM2 4. TM:Lost 5. TM:Head-On 6. TM3 7. TM: PS3 8. TM1 9. Unjust imprisonment 10. Corrupt politics 11. Testicular torsion 12. Rectal cancer 13. TM: Small Brawl
My rankings are pretty much consensus but here goes. 8) TM4: I hated this game even as a kid. Everything about it. Soundtrack, controls, roster and the aesthetic in general. 7) SB: Played it for a couple hours and never touched it again. Has aged incredibly poorly. 6) TM3: Loved this one as a kid but I now see just how bad the physics are. AI is also super dumb and are basically just bullet sponges that try and snipe the health packs. Almost unplayable. 5) TM1: I agree it feels unfinished but it's the one that started it all and that soundtrack is insanely good. It's lacking a lot of stuff like 2 player Co Op though. 4) Head On: I hate easy games and this game just feels really slow overall. The levels are too big and feel empty with the AI being too passive. Everything else is great but those are massive flaws that bring the game down. A few tweaks could turn it into the best in the series. 3) 2012: The best gameplay and multiplayer when it worked. Story mode is a huge con but understandable given Sony rushed them. That's a deal breaker for some but as a multiplayer only game it was fantastic. 2) TM2: It's janky but I really don't get your other criticisms here. The AI is aggressive but very predictable. Just don't sit there and brawl and you should be able to win without continues. Watch how others play compared to your gameplay and you'll see what you're doing wrong. No death runs are very possible even with frail characters like Twister. 1) Black: Not my favorite aesthetic but it has the best combo of gameplay and story. This and Head On are the only games that feel finished but this one is a lot more fast a frenetic as TM should be.
Well I’m glad Black isn’t number 1 but putting TM2 at 7 is a sin. My top 3 are probably TM2, TM4, then probably Small Brawl. I would put 2012 higher if you could use the d-pad and had a lot more single player content. Buckle up for the crazy mean comments when this goes public good luck!
Ive only played up to Black but based on that 1. Twisted metal Black 2. Twisted metal 2 world tour 3.Twisted metal 1 4. Twisted metal 4 5.Twisted metal 3
I didn't ever play the original TM or small brawl (cause I bought Black!), rented 3 and 4 cause that was a thing in those days but went back to TM2 (my first TM game). Head on needs better music and it feels like a TM2 remake without soul, and it is too easy, such a shame! If I were a new to TM fan and I wanted to get feed back from the long time fans on which games to get, this comments section would confuse me! But I get it, and I enjoy reading everyone's rankings. All of these games have something to like and everyone appreciates different qualities in these games.
The fact that you put TM 1 and 2 at the bottom is REAL AF. I'm tired of seeing people saying those games are better than 3 and 4. TM1 and TM2 were great for their time but there's no way you can say they play better than 3 and 4. Those difficulties were ridiculous in the first two games.
I also have to say Small Brawl is a great game. One of the best. Literally the only gripe I had with the game was piecemeal being a lame amalgamation boss instead of having an original special, the map hes on having little to no weapons ever, and homing missiles not homing well
30:37, I didn't know Warhawk was in 2012. I guess you have to have beaten the game on Super Twisted in order to unlock him which is why there's no gameplay of him by anyone.
Ask 2000+ fans of the Twisted Metal Series what their ranking of the games are and you'll get 2000+ different answers. I got it like this: TM2 Black Head On Small Brawl (all four of these are incredibly close and maybe interchangeable) TM4 TM TM3 (this is waaaay down there compared to the rest, I really don't care for it) I haven't played TM 2012, but I'm sure that it would be in the top 5.
For me, it's TM4, 2012 and Small Brawl, with the occasional Black and TM1 runs. I played out TM2 to death as a kid, Head-On is just meh to me, and TM3 is more just an occasional nostalgia trip.
To me the most fun I have ever had overall is Twisted Metal Head On and Twisted Metal 4. The best is maybe Black but I still think Head On is the perfect blend between 2 and Black. My thing with the first 2 TW is that they got the chaos "vibe" right but 3 and 4 got the "video game experience" right.
tw1 last? that was my first game i ever had on PlayStation, back in the 90s.. it was an amazing game, me and my friends played that game non stop.. it's the freaking OG of twisted metal! last!? you must be Gen z
Hell, TM1 even won EGM's game of the year in 1995. The game was incredibly fun with friends. TM2 improved on it in every aspect. Then the TM devs changed and the series went to shit with 3 and 4.
Got into the series very recently My ranks so far: TMB TM2 TML TMHO TMSB TM'12 TM1 TM4 TM3 Edit: Played '12, I enjoyed it, and yeah my rankings are pretty generic, TM2 has become my 2nd favorite, the worst I can say about it is I don't like how the big vehicles control and the A.I. is cheap, the only reason the 989 games are at bottom is mostly just cus of the twitchy cars and sensitive handling, aside from that I don't hate them (well maybe 3 a lil), TM1 and TM4 are good, they just have tough competition Edit2: I've noticed some more things I don't like about 2, one of which being that cars go flying into the air too much and another being Moscow is unplayable no matter how much I improve at the game also FREEZESPAM, still my 2nd fav tho. My opinion on 2012 definitely changed a lot, at first I enjoyed it, but by the time I got to the second race I didn't not enjoy it very much, too much of a mixed bag so I'm lowering my ranking
The original is my favorite for the rough, gritty feel of everything... A polished and nice looking Twisted Metal is antithetical to the spirit of the whole thing, imo. I want it ugly and I want it to slap me around. I really like the interior views as well. You rock and I'm not knocking your choices, but... OOH BABY I LIKE IT RAAAAWWWW
Damn dude, mad respect for your rankings. I have a lot of thoughts, and my ranking is VERY different from yours. 8. Twisted Metal Head On- The only game in the series that I don’t like. I find the combat bland and boring. There’s no feeling of impact to any of the hits. And I hate the “15 points of damage” or whatever number indicators every time you do damage, it’s stupid. 7. Twisted Metal Small Brawl- I think it’s awesome that you put this as your #1, this game is very underrated. The reason why it’s so far down for me is that compared to the other games in the series I don’t think it really excels at anything that the other games don’t do better. This game is very mid all the way through. A ton of fun, but I find that I forget about it often. 6. Twisted Metal Black- Ok I’m prepared to get hate for this. Quality wise, this is the best game in the series objectively. It’s fantastic. But…I don’t like the combat. The “hit and run” style that the enemy cars do is very annoying and you rarely get in to massive battles with card piling up and stuff like in other games. These levels are also so huge that they don’t even feel like battle arenas. You see a car for a second then ir speeds away like it’s in a cartoon, I hate it. Everything runs away from you, it’s so annoying. Story is great, music is great, atmosphere is perfect, but the gameplay is weak. Just my opinion. 5. Twisted Metal (PS3)- This game is awesome. Quite the opposite from Black, I find the gameplay here to be some of the best in the series. Where this game loses points is in the story. I definitely miss the “each character had its own story” angle, they dropped the ball with this one in that regard. Still a blast to play in death match though. But I see no reason to play the story again. 4. Twisted Metal 4- This game is a classic. Very fun, very campy, endless deathmatch combinations with all the bosses, it’s just a blast. I have much of the same complaints as you do pretty much. But due me, the game is just too easy. Other than the final boss, there’s never any stakes. The game gives you like five lives, you can save after every level, and you can’t even pick a difficulty, the game just gets harder every time you beat it, which is a strange system in a game like this. For me, this one is a blast in co-op, but I rarely do single player play throughs anymore. 3. Twisted Metal 1- I can’t believe you put this as your least favorite. That is insane to me. This game is amazing. And you learn to appreciate it for how strategic it is when you attempt to beat the game on every difficulty with every character. I’ve done it…it’s tough but not TM2 or TM Black tough. This game is perfect difficulty, the driving is smooth as heck (no idea where you get the bad controls from), it’s grounded, this is the only game that has very sparse supernatural elements, it feel like an underground club that you’re not supposed to be in, the atmosphere of this game is just perfect. I love everything about it. It’s just…maybe a little TOO simple. Also no co-op hurts it. 2. Twisted Metal 2- I hate this game. For all the reasons you mentioned I hate it. It’s ridiculously difficult, the enemy cars are cheap, the controls are by far the worst in the series, it’s like you’re on ice, it’s just awful. BUT…from a car combat destruction standpoint, man it’s just so satisfying. Blowing up cars in this game never gets old. The stages are absolutely awesome and epic, this game is crazy. One might say it’s “Twisted”. Out of every game in the series, this game definitely fits its name. This game is on crack. I hate it but damn is it fun. Twisted Metal 3- Screw the haters, this is in my top 10 games of all time. The physics are perfect, the destruction is awesome, from a pick up and play perspective it has by far the most replayability, I can play this game for hours and hours and not get bored. Yeah the levels are kinda weak but who cares. So much fun, it’s amazing.
TM1 TM3 TM2 Black Everything else is just flotsam and jetsam to me. 2 was one of those classic 90s gaming sequels that expected you to have loved the first so much you were an expert at it. TW2 starts you off fighting six opponents, TW1 doesn't have you facing 6 opponents until level 4. Plus, TM2 ends your run at Minion if you're playing on easy. Just a complete punch in the face.
I echo the sentiment on TM3, but you have to also mention how annoying it is for enemies to B-line it to health pickups when you have them nearly dead. Found myself constantly drag racing against them to have to unnecessarily pick them up when I'm near full just so they couldn't.
My tier list plays out like so: TM2 TM 2012 TM Harbor City (unfinished content) TM HO TM TM Black Haven't played small brawl but I want to. TM3&4 doesn't make the list. TM2 is my top pick because of the driving physics, the ramming physics, art style, soundtrack. Plus it has my 2 favorite TM arenas. Suicide slide (so much death and destruction in such a tiny space) and NYC rooftops. The trick to it really is getting used to the physics. Once you do, you can just go crazy and it's a blast TM Black is my bottom because the art style and sountrack indulged way too much in the darker aspect. It's just depressing to me. The cars feel like toys, no ramming physics (it's fatal flaw imo. I could have adjusted if they had gotten that right). Arenas are way too big, just like TM 2012. I played the hell out of black. It just left me wanting to play TM2. The good things I can say about TM Black is the level design. Needs to be smaller but other than that the level design is as good as TM2. At the end of the day, if you are me and you own TM2 and Vigilante 8, there is no need to own any other car combat games other than for collection purposes. No CC game I have played comes close to either of those 2 game's quality.
Man IDK. Twisted metal 1 music and first person view saves it from bottom place. Twisted metal Black is my favourite... Twisted 3 might be my bottom pick.
TWB will forever be my favorite twisted metal game...put idk how many hours of gameplay and yes the stories r so dark 2012 yes the graphics and chaos was awesome but sucks with only few characters TW head on reminded me of black but like the 2nd one its chill and good PvP game TW2 is my first twisted metal game its more of a good PvP game honestly TW4 is more of a good time killer game like very chill Never played first one or 3 or small brawl
For me it's 4>3>Black>Smallbrawl>2>1 Never played 2012 or headon. I think the consensus is Black>2>1>Smallbrawl>4>3. Which makes no sense because 4 feels much better to play than 1/2
I love how everyones rankings for these games are so different and at the same time I cant disagree with any of them 😂. I have always found my favorites to be TM3 and Black. For whatever reason those two seem to have the most replayability for me. I never seem to want to play all the way through the others. I really wish the story mode would have been better in 2012.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who LIKES Twisted Metal 3's physics. I never had much issue using it against my enemies, flipping them with a well-placed ram and doing tons of damage to them.
Nah bro. No way you put 2012 above head on and TW 2. Your tripping. And small brawl? Its good. Not better than head on or black. Now ive seen everything.
I’m glad that this guy isn’t afraid to say older games aren’t always better than newer ones. I think that’s how game development is supposed to be, the sequel should always be better and build upon the previous games.
That's a nice list, you show some love even for the games you don't like much, which is amazing And as someone who got introduced to TM with 3 of all games, it's amazing it wasn't last hahahahaha
Twisted Metal Small Brawl was the first game I played when I was a kid, and until 2020 through emulator I played the rest of the games and TM4 was one fun to play.
My list would be the same except tm 2 would be higher than 3&4. I played tmsb the most, piecemeal is the best boss as I would play it on hard. Piecemeal always felt like a threat. Trapper was scarier than minion. Blacks difficulty was perfect but the levels were perfect in sb.
Wow, I couldn't disagree with you more on this list. No hate, it was intersting to see your points. Definitely different from other top lists for sure haha.
Worst to best while I verbally poop on each game. 8. TM4 - Interchangeable with 3 depending on the mood, soundtrack is more misses than hits. 7. TM3 - Bad weapons, questionable physics, horrendous endings, bad graphics even for the time, great soundtrack. 6. TM1 - Love so much about it but that feeling of not being finished really hurt it for me. 5. TM Small Brawl - The duckstation works miracles because the disc version of the game is almost incomprehensible visually, some endings are too quick, So much fun otherwise and it really needs an online multiplayer mode. 4. TM 2012 - 3 factions instead of a driver for each vehicle, some stages are too visually busy, the loss of the upload skins option, tedious boss battles, redundant vehicles. Still awesome gameplay. 3. TM Head-On - The absolute worst soundtrack in the whole franchise, some dull stages, slightly washed out color palette. 2. TM Black - Sometimes the morose gets too much and makes you jaded, different Minion between boss and playable character, some hits don't have gravitas. 1. TM2 - Says Holland instead of Netherlands or Zaanse Schans, Moscow was a satellite dish not a missile silo, the lightning weapon only worked if you were looking at the source.
I just don't understand why you consider TM3 &4 to look better than TM2. When the new studio took over after 2, they changed the vibe so much. They made the levels look so plain and kinda abstract. The TM2 levels had so much more detail. They seemed grounded in some sort of reality. Like, I knew what I was looking at in TM2. 3 is not like that for me - it just seems like CGI poop. I suppose 4 makes more sense when looking at it, but the improvement is slight and the vibe is still way off. 4 definitely suffers from its roster too.
I'm 30 seconds into this video and I'm guessing he's gonna say small brawl and 4 are the best.. every list he makes is small brawl, black, and 4 are the best lol
i respect your opinions but you're wrong, lol. Small Brawl isn't very good. i tried playing it once and just couldn't get into it. the physics are weird and the game is just too slow. seriously, it feels like the game is running at like 15 fps. (basically the opposite problem with Black, where even when you're using Darkside it feels like your zooming around at the speed of light lol) also the game is ugly as hell. it looks much worse visually than either TM1 or TM2. i can understand they were going for a cartoony style, but they did a pretty bad job. and yes, some aspects of TM2 haven't aged well (you definitely need to get used to the floaty controls; i can imagine someone playing the game for the first time these days and going "wtf are these controls?!") and the AI can be an asshole for sure, but once you get used to both the game is excellent. these days, i find TM2 quite easy, actually. i've been playing it for almost 30 years tho lol.

And Small Brawl would be #1 if it wants for that damn cosing error were reversing permanent reverses your steering until you go forward again (and if Warthog and Grasshopper weren't screwed over by time constraints)
Thank you for reviewing these games. These games mean a lot to me. I played them with my brother when we were teens. Its ours favorite game. Now he is in prison and your videos give me so much nostalgia
Oh man, I'm ready to watch the video now, can't wait to see TM Black as the best and TM2 in second place!

i think dark tooth would have been perfect for black It would really signify that this whole thing happens in his head
Man, you are starting a war somewhere. TM Black is my #1.
I’ve said it before, I’m apprehensive about a new Twisted Metal game. Imagine the company trying to up their ESG score by putting all the drivers in electric vehicles that take 20 minutes to charge.
Twisted Metal has already had electric vehicles. They went too woke 20 years ago…
Everytime I see small brawl, I cannot get over the stuttery bad frames of the game. It really turns me off from giving it a try, despite all its strengths.
I do agree. I wish the game looked and played like the uprezed versions we see on UA-cam.
Small brawl is very slow it's great in every department besides gameplay though it's very creative especially in level design
Yep and the Levels seem unfinished, or half-assed in design I really wondered how a finished game can be like that also the Presentation is shitty I mean
how had is it to make good Title screens and menus Jeezus
Glad to see Small Brawl higher up, it’s definitely underrated. I do think TM: Black is still the pinnacle though.
We all have our own opinions, so here are mine; my rankings -
1. TM2
2. TM Black
3. TM Head On
4. TM4
5. TM Small Brawl
6. TM1
7. TM3
TM 2012 is still the only one I haven't played, I never owned a PS3 and it never felt worth it to fork out the money for one even though it looked like a really fun game. One of these days I'll have to give it a try.
If you ever get a PS3 and pick up 2012, head on over to our Twisted Metal Federation discord to join us for online game nights! It's easy to setup and it's free!
I loved the Holland level in TM2 for the reasons you didn’t.😂
A flat area loaded with cars, almost nowhere to hide, total chaos!
You should always go with your opinion and not what everyone collectively agrees on. Imo top 3 would be 1 - 2012, 2 - TM2, 3 - Black.
idk about the best overall but TM2012 had the best gameplay for me and TM4 and TM:SB had the most fun for me.
as for the rest i never played them before and probably never will.
i never a fan of TM:Black before because the cars are too fast require larger map thus many open spaces just not for my liking and no one sells them copies here 😭, i like TM:Lost a lot because it is slower and more realistic to my liking, I'll give TM:Black a try someday.

Commend you for not caving and putting the earlier games higher, the controls are really a big barrier for entry imo.

3 is unplayable for me.
Just beat small brawl with every character on hard its a okay game the weapons homing is trash and the the travel time of weapons is to slow as well the game is just slow overall i had more fun with tm 4.
Tmhead on just feels generic i wish i could like it but besides the character endings the gameplay and levels dont have soul and they are too easy
TM2 is great but i play hard clunky control games all the time because i collect retro games so i can master games like tm2
I think tm1 has more fun combat than small brawl but the ramming is too unforgiving in 1 and rear fire is hard not to play with
For me from what ive played this is my list so far
8: Twisted Metal Head On ( 100% Completed)
7. Twisted Metal 3
6.Twisted Metal Small Brawl ( 100% Completed weapons are too inaccurate and matches last too long especially bosses)
5. Twisted Metal 1(tm 3 and 1 are the ones that ill probably move lower or higher at some point)
4. Twisted Metal 4 ( 100% Completed underrated twisted metal party game with unique levels and the biggest pickup weapon selection in the series)
3. Twisted Metal PS3 ( great game with great levels but the characters are generic compared to older tm games)
2. Twisted Metal 2 ( this game and black have the most soul out of every game the color palette is amazing and its just really iconic game can be unfair but when you destroy things in this game its so satisfying)
I can't agree with putting TMIII above 1 and 2 due to its questionable physics and repulsive aesthetics, but otherwise I can understand these choices.
From worst to best my FAVORITE (not better, just a matter of personal taste):
1, Black, 3, 2012, 4, 2, Small Brawl, Head-on.
Most of the endings are fun for a less mature game hehe
Head-on is to me 2 on steroids. It's the best game by virtue of being a continuation of the best game before it (not counting Small). The only issue I have with it is the lack of Minion. I consider it the real Twsited Metal 3 hehe
PS: I HATE holand in 2 for being boring. I love moscow for being a great arena for 1x1 PVP hehe
@@OrdemDoGraveto try playing 1 on emulator, widescreen, and overclocked
My take:
Twisted Metal Black or 2 are the best.
3 and 4 are the worst.
And all others fall in between.
9: TM3
8: TM2012
7: TM2
6: TM1
5: Head-On Ps2
4: TM4
3: Head-On PSP
2: Small Brawl
1: Black
We all know that everyone who doesn't already #1 TM2 on their list would rate it higher if they had kept Axel's speedo from the beta in the game.
They weren't released overseas so I haven't been able to play them):
I've always used the default control scheme
Not sure I 100% agree with your number #1 but won't fight it.
Would be hilarious if you did! Haha
No one knows how to press the circle button it's why people complain about tm2 as well
Black plays really well using the right stick for gas/brakes, most people don’t even realize it’s a thing.
Useless facts: Small Brawl is the only game where Twister, Crimson Fury, and Spectre, who are usually the fastest car in their own respective games, are all present. And Crimson Fury is faster than Twister
Edit: I made what the kids call "a huge fucking oopsie" all three of these cars are also in Head On
8)TM 2012: Thought it was a huge let down for having only a few characters and the stupid racing levels
7) TM 3. We all know why
6) TM 1: Didn't play it until after years of playing 2-4.
5) Small Brawl: Only played a few times. It's okay.
4) TM Head On: PSP
3) TM 4: Everything but the endings was great
2) TM Black: Perfect
1) TM 2: I cant think of one bad thing(I'm very very biased)
I honestly thought you'd rate TM4 higher.
Love the honesty behind this list.

3. TM2
4. TM:Lost
5. TM:Head-On
6. TM3
7. TM: PS3
8. TM1
9. Unjust imprisonment
10. Corrupt politics
11. Testicular torsion
12. Rectal cancer
Small Brawl is the one that aged the best there though

My ranks so far:
TMB
TM2
TML
TMHO
TMSB
TM'12
TM1
TM4
TM3
Edit: Played '12, I enjoyed it, and yeah my rankings are pretty generic, TM2 has become my 2nd favorite, the worst I can say about it is I don't like how the big vehicles control and the A.I. is cheap, the only reason the 989 games are at bottom is mostly just cus of the twitchy cars and sensitive handling, aside from that I don't hate them (well maybe 3 a lil), TM1 and TM4 are good, they just have tough competition
Edit2: I've noticed some more things I don't like about 2, one of which being that cars go flying into the air too much and another being Moscow is unplayable no matter how much I improve at the game also FREEZESPAM, still my 2nd fav tho.
TM 2 is not great. You right
Small brawl to match small balls
TM1
TM3
TM2
Black
Everything else is just flotsam and jetsam to me.
My tier list plays out like so:
TM2
TM 2012
TM Harbor City (unfinished content)
TM HO
TM
TM Black
Haven't played small brawl but I want to.
Once you do, you can just go crazy and it's a blast
TM Black is my bottom because the art style and sountrack indulged way too much in the darker aspect.
TWB will forever be my favorite twisted metal game...put idk how many hours of gameplay and yes the stories r so dark
2012 yes the graphics and chaos was awesome but sucks with only few characters
TW head on reminded me of black but like the 2nd one its chill and good PvP game
TW2 is my first twisted metal game its more of a good PvP game honestly
TW4 is more of a good time killer game like very chill
Never played first one or 3 or small brawl
For me it's 4>3>Black>Smallbrawl>2>1
Never played 2012 or headon.
After seeing your #1 pick, I knew I liked you for a reason! 💚
I’m glad that this guy isn’t afraid to say older games aren’t always better than newer ones. I think that’s how game development is supposed to be, the sequel should always be better and build upon the previous games.
That's a nice list, you show some love even for the games you don't like much, which is amazing
And as someone who got introduced to TM with 3 of all games, it's amazing it wasn't last hahahahaha
Twisted Metal Small Brawl was the first game I played when I was a kid, and until 2020 through emulator I played the rest of the games and TM4 was one fun to play.
Agreed except I'd bump the first one up a bit I was surprised how fun it was to play and the skill required and the hit and run gameplay
Only played 2, 3, 4, and black... I'd go 4, 2, black, 3. 🤔 ... You asked for it 😅
My list would be the same except tm 2 would be higher than 3&4.
My controversial take (basing on how much fun I have playing)
8. Tm3
7. Tm1
6. 2012
5. Black
4. Tm2
3. Tm4
2. Small brawl
1. Head on
If nothing else, gotta admire the bravery of ranking #7
Not saying I agree as that has to be my #1
either way, love these vids! :)
Another thing about TM2 is that enemies won't take damage from a very far distance.
I had always as a kid preferred 4 because it always seemed darker than the others then prob 2 next best
1. Black
2. Small Brawl
3. 2012
4. TM2
5. TM1
6. TM4
7. TM3
8. Head-On (not a fan)
Is that actually how you make the lightning work by looking at it!?
@@BigSlick98 It's not mentioned anywhere I have seen, but it's the only way it worked for me. So, it's anecdotal.
@@lordvlygar2963 For me it works the most when the enemy and myself are near the source. I still believe it’s a bug.
Black is best. Then TM2.
Your video did make me really want to play Head On though. Never touched it.
TM2 is absolutely better than 3 and 4. However i found TM1 to be kinda boring.
TM2 is absolutely better than 3 and 4. However i found TM1 to be kinda boring.
Twisted Metal Black, then 2, then 1, then the ones I haven’t played, then 4, then 3
Nostalgia plays a *massive* factor with people who favor Twisted Metal 1 or 2.
best to worst for me:
TM2
TMBlack
TM1
TMHO
TMSB
TM2012
TM3
TM4
How can you hate TM2?!?!?! Unsubscribed... TM3 and TM4 are trash.. I would take 1 and 2 over 3 and 4 all day everyday
@@ryankuchera9477 Didn't want you here anyway Ryan :)
I'm 30 seconds into this video and I'm guessing he's gonna say small brawl and 4 are the best.. every list he makes is small brawl, black, and 4 are the best lol
@@ryankuchera9477 Then why are you here watching? Either way, thanks for helping pay my bills! Much love!
will you more fan made 3d twisted metal games in 2024 today now yes 🤩🤩🤩
I've litterly never played small brawl but I think I will try it now
TM1 OG is clearly #1. or TM2.. Black is good too..
TM2? Alright people, get your pitchforks.
i respect your opinions but you're wrong, lol.
@@azn1011 "I respect your opinion but you're wrong"
Get out of my comments.
@@VicariousNickk i was just teasing you damn
@@azn1011 Idk you personally and it's literally impossible to tell that you were just kidding over a comment on youtube so I apologize for responding in the same manner that I was treated 🤷
Also you edited out the "pretty shit list, ngl" at the end lol That was the comment that made me feel like you were indeed NOT joking. But I digress
@@VicariousNickk yeah that was too harsh so i edited it out. i didn't mean to come across as rude. i love your videos, just disagreed with this one
@@azn1011 Well I do appreciate your apology and I too apologize for my response. Thank you for your support and for watching!
8) TM3
7) TM1
6) TM4
5) TM2
4/3) TM2012 - TMHO (They're interchangeable)
2) TM: Small Brawl
1) TM: Black
1, 3, and 4 are at the bottom because they lack the Hovercar controls that imo contribute a huge part into the appeal of Twisted Metal and itself arcade feel compared to more realistic car combat games.
Is he out yet
