@@IBoughtAWatch Ots on route. It likely to get it until Xmas. But for the price i was willing to roll the dice to see what comes. It’s by Pagani Design. I’m thinking of gifting it to my dad.
Hi Oscar, good review video, mate! I like how you research the story of a watch. The watch itself, well I'm not overly crazy about this one. The bezel is a bit too chunky and the rehaut slopes down at a too flat angle, leaving the dial a little small which looks odd, plus there are too many polished surfaces as you said. And normally I don't have an issue with two-tone lume but on this particular watch it's a no-no. I look forward to seeing the result of you brushing experiment. Cheers 👍
It’s a nice homage! Weird lum... lol. I think if I were to go with an explorer I homage I’d get a Tisell which granted is a little more expensive but a little more worth it in my opinion. But this isn’t a bad option at all! Tho to be honest, I stray from Explorer homages including the Tisell because the Rolex Explorer I is my grail watch so I don’t really want to ruin that experience by getting an homage of it... you know? Haha. Great review sir. 👍🏼
I've got too many grail watches so by picking up homage's it allow me to get a rough comparison between the two. E.g. the Explorer 1 and the Aqua Terra! Thanks for watching though mate, sorry I only just got round to replying!
I think it's got a decent look to it...but the two color lume didn't work for me, and I hate ghost crown positions! Use a different movement, or feature the date complication! Great review, though! I like this watch, but just on somebody else.😎
Love the Explorer, love homage watches, not feeling this Phylida... Something about it is a bit off for me. And I'm not a fan of the fully polished case. Great review though, like always! I just finished the second Dune book today 😊
What about watercolor or 16th Century Japanese Wood Carvings??Maybe grass fed beef or German Beer Steins.A lot of ppl are fans of those.I’m curious what Ed De Beer is a fan of?
@@echochambers8418 : I prefer watch brands and styles with a history. I never get that, they are able to homage/ copy a watch like this, but then when it comes to details like the endlink and the lume or the shiny parts on all the chinese watches...it feels like they dont bother with that. For me that is what the watch hobby is all about; enjoying the craftsmanship and details. Even if this was 25 dollars, i wouldnt want it. I wanna look at my watch and smile, not be annoyed. Amen.
Haha that really would have been the simplest solution, however I did it for two main reasons: 1) I like a project, and to test/challenge myself in my free time 2) Other than the finishing it's actually a great bracelet, so didn't feel that I could justify the purchase of a new bracelet especially when the original is so well built
@@haythamawad8719 yes I have been looking at different reviews of both and they clearly say that the tisell is much better, now of course the alpha is smaller, and for sure must wear nice as this design is quite a 'plate on wrist' (veey large dial and small bezel). To be honest I have the tisell, and a 16.5 cm (6.5 inch) wrist and with leather strap it looks and fit great. I am still waiting for the metal bracelet I ordered (female endlinks) because the male endlinks given with the watch is ok but not my cup of tea.
I find the lack of date a bonus. I detest that window ruining my dials.
Definitely, it can be a bit jarring when they just cut out a date window
@@IBoughtAWatch Couldn't agree more. It's difficult to find a watch without a date window.
Yes, please, on a video brushing the case and bracelet. Thanks!

I understand Paul Muad'dib wore one of these on his first expedition into the desert.
Does anybody know the dial size on this watch? I have one and I fancy changing the dial.
This is a really nice looking homage. I would love to see you doing the brushing to transform this watch 😊👍
Legend has it Hugh Johnson wore the Explorer during his 3 day trek through the Desert to the Bunny Ranch, where he spent a week digging out all the tunnels he could find.
The Bliger Explorer model brushes their bracelet and can be had with a nh35 movement.I went for that homage with the Snowflake hands.
How fo you like that one? Been thinking for getting one and cant decide between the two
Yes I would love to see you polish the shiny parts haha. I don't like them either 👍 nice video man!!
Just popping to say congrats on the channel, you are flying, Ben
I appreciate that! I've given your channel a look and i'm sure you'll catch up in no time!
The first explorer up to the Everest was Smith's
I ordered the benyar homage to this same watch 6 days ago and it came today! That’s some delivery from China! Great review!👍🏻
Hope you enjoy it, would like to hear how you think it compares!
Looks fantastic, shame they've ran out! I picked up the Milgauss, wish I got this one at the same time now!
Haha I could say the same thing about the Milgauss!
Please let me know what the size of the fish is???
How are you brushing the center links? I want to try the same thing and would like to see how you do it.
Very tenderly with just enough roughness to make it count
I bought the Benyar version of the Explorer homage the other day for just £30! Though I prefer the dimensions of this Phylida.
That's sounds like a steal, does it look like there is much a difference in quality?

The Gent mine came in 6 days couldn’t believe it!
Looks like this Phylida Explorer homage has slightly better lume than the Bliger version.
What’s the movement like on this? Is it noisy like a Miyota 8215 or not? Looks stunning and the strap varieties work so well!
It does have quite a noticeable rotor wobble definitely similar to the Miyota in my experience
Great vid. Hope you enjoy the Willard, it’s awesome. Even though that probably disqualifies me from the contest 🤦🏻♂️😆
I have the Tisell, one of the best quality watches under 500 euro I own, informative review, thank You for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching!

@@IBoughtAWatch Haha yeah I feel it. At the moment I believe I only have sub homages but yeah I feel you. No worries bro!
That polished centre links spell disaster! Nonetheless great review. 👌
They really need to size down atleast a millimeter, both in diameter and L2L.

I think the Tisell is the step up that you're looking for, and I must say the dual coloured lume is a little off putting
I love the dual lume on the Steeldive SD1970 (you’ll see), but it just didn’t work here, at least for me.
Love the Explorer, love homage watches, not feeling this Phylida... Something about it is a bit off for me. And I'm not a fan of the fully polished case.

I just finished the second Dune book today 😊
I think it's the chapter ring that is so much bigger. It makes the dial look small and bezel look too big.
Well said, and thanks for watching Aviv! I'll let you know how the refinishing goes 🤞🏻 and yeah i'm loving the book so far!
If there is something one doesn't like about their watch, they can always carefully fix it themselves, within reason. ...
The beauty of Chinese watches is that when they stop running in six months, you can order another one just like it and it will have NO scratches!!
Great way of doing a giveaway👍 as regards to this watch,it looks great but I can't get past the name🤷♂️
Phylida really need to work on that, although I do believe they where running a sterile dial at some point!
Very nice watch that
I'll have to show you sometime 🤙🏻

2 video's in 1 day :) how lucky are we :)
Haha I know was a crazy day 😅
Unfortunately doesn't look exactly full homage. Bezel and case looks way off. They just copied dial somewhat.
... if they make it a 36 mm the second hand will have the right length 😉
Think they've released a new brushed model but it's still 39mm hopefully with the new 36mm release Phylida will get round to it!

Too bad the seconds had is too short
Why not just get another steel bracelet which suits your taste instead of faffing about with the existing bracelet to get a Matt finish?
