Loosing a snake, mites, bites, how to set up a habitat, burns, how to feed it, basically everything! I've always loved snakes and it was filed more when I was sorted into Slytherin. I have pictures of a 5 or 6 year old me holding a snake like it was my baby. I just wanted to say thank you because of all the information you've given, I was able to pursuade my parents to get me one!

This literally just happened to us one week ago today. 😞 Our adorable 1.5 year old corn snake escaped, we were absolutely devastated! We searched the entire day until we had to get some sleep, and everyday before and after work. We ended up finding him 4 days later. He was next to his terrarium tightly curled up inside of the pull out sofa. We checked that area a ton of times, he eluded us somehow. During his grand adventure and my worse nightmare, some things I did were...... Checking around all radiators and sources of warmth. Checked and blocked off all sink and shower drains. Looked in all toilet bowls (behind them too) and closed them. I lightly dusted the floors with flour, to see if I can track what direction he was heading. I put plastic bags all over the house along the walls, If he was on the move I was hoping to hear the crinkling bags. I also put bowls of fresh water in every single room, 2 bowls in the larger rooms. Every evening I placed a freshly thawed mouse in the area he went missing. I’m not sure if the following is true or not, I read an article somewhere saying snakes will typically stay in closer proximity of their terrarium for the first 3-7 days. Because they associate it with food, water and warmth. If anyone is going through this, I wish you the best of luck finding your little cutie safe and as quickly as possible. Best bit of advice imo anyway was stated in the video, LOOK EVERYWHERE, they literally can be anywhere. Think like a snake, not a human. Don’t give up, keep looking!!

A good way to find a snake that got loose that you can’t find is to put hide boxs against walls. Snakes generally will follow along the side of walls to feel they have an anchor point more then just going across an open floor. When they run into the hid they are likely to go into it to feel safe.
My ball python has attempted to escape several times. I say attempt because I always manage to catch him as he is getting out, usually before his whole body is out. The one time that he did escape I found him in my closet.
Every time my ball python has tried to escape I’ve found him, but last night I could not😔. He went up my mom car radio. (Her car is build weird- it’s a Ford E350) My snake climbed up her radio. I grabbed his tail, but if I would have yanked him his skin would have been messed up but I should have and now I’m jus sooo sad. I can’t find him anywhere

Don't panic. They can go a long time without food. My kids left the terrarium open and my cali king got out. 5 months he was gone. Eventually lucked out as he came out while I was folding laundry. All healthy no harm. I was worried sick for 5 months though.
So I cut on this video because my corn snake had been missing for going on 3 weeks and just had it playing in the background while looking over the same places I’ve looked a million times and I found her. So happy she is safe, healthy, and back in her tank. I have had her for 5 years and this is the first time she has ever escaped. (It was my fault for not closing the lid tightly after getting her out) If you lose your snake don’t give up no matter how much time goes by, you will find your baby in time. ❤
My corn has escaped 3 times, the longest being gone for 6 weeks. Best advice I can give is, if you dont find it at first, be patient, make sure to keep the house on lock down and be vigilant at night time, he always came out at night and I was able to find him again.
What I do is I either chill the house leaving a warm spot in the corner of each room OR I leave food out in the middle of every room. Edit: Also, snakes can learn very quickly, make sure to try and lock the enclosures away from their sight so they won't learn how to open enclosure, my snakes went through multiple lids and tanks because they kept opening their tanks.

I always turn all lights off, set a quiet alarm for around 2AM. Turn on my phone flashlight and go room to room. Never fails. Usually find them stretched out in the middle of the floor.
interesting tip I heard was from Snake discovery youtube channel emily suggested setting up a heat mat and a hide somewhere on the corners of your home and if you have big one do a few of them then just check them, she had a adventuring snake that was gone full 3 months but turned up one morning
I have a strange & curious question. How often should a Ball Python poop? My 1st snek is a 8 mo. old Fire Pinstripe female. I've had her since Cyber Monday & in that time she's shed twice & pooped Thrice. Now i'm feeding her the appropriate prey size once a week, but the math doesn't add up. That's more mice in (rat pups now) than poop out. I'm confused... What Gives!
It's not uncommon for them to go a few months in between poops. They have a slow metabolism and are incredibly efficient at getting all the nutrients from their food. She'll poop when she's ready. No worries.
Great news. My little brother found my milk snake. It apparently managed to climb up my curtains to my patio sliding door, and was at the very top. I felt so bad and it nearly brought me to tears. He was cold and very thin. But I warned him up, and going to feed him. He is also getting ready to shed.
I've had my first snake, a baby corn snake named Francis, for 2 weeks and he's gone. I'm freaking out! He's so tiny, I don't want to crush him😰 And chances are he escaped early in the night, and his enclosure is really close to the door. My first corn got loose and went in my propane fire place which I never use. He went behind the wire mesh and there was no way to get him. Think he managed to get outside and I never found him.

I fixed the problem, but he escaped AGAIN and somehow got tangled in cables behind my dresser. It took a while to get him out carefully, but it went well. Since replacing his enclosure's lid, he hasn't escaped.
Yeah Honey, i do yank it out 😂🙏 Well some times it is not the first place, but you have to kind of understand what a comfy hide for a snake is. Dont think like a human, be the snake, imaging where you will be comfy as a snake. It is not likely your snake search for warmth, only if it just ate. Then it is more likely 😊 So as josser says check everywhere, they love to squeeze themself unimaginable places 😉
Ahh I remember the first month I got my bp vanilla cream he escaped and he hid in my heater( was off) from my cats and he had wounds! I had to take him to the vet immediately but I was working al day. Ended up in the vet er for him at 12 am (only one in SF) and got him medication and checkups and he’s thriving now 7 months later. I love him. I still hate myself for my careless-ness
I actually have not been this devastated in my life. My baby hognose has escaped and I’ve been a complete wreck all morning I have no clue how he could’ve gotten out but I have a heat blanket on the ground and a mouse on a plate :( I feel terrible 😢

had it last week, my bp comes out of his enclosure and runs around my room , but my mom did not close my door after greeting me so he got out, one does not stop looking until i find Soba, found him after 2 long hours
My all python pushed up his lid of his enclosure because I didn’t put any locks on and he snuck in between my bed and the wall under a whole bunch of stuffed animals. We did find him and he is okay now.
Great videos and helped a lot when we were deciding what snake to get for my 7 year old son.... received 2 snakes last October for his birthday. 6mth old milk snakes Orange Red Black... really pretty. They are housed together in a Eco Terrex terrarium. However 1 or the 2 snakes has managed to escape 3 times and spent more than 5 of the past 7 months somewhere in our house. He was most recently discovered after his 3rd escape (yet again) making his way back to the Terrarium for food. We panicked the first time he escaped (he was missing from November to end January). The wife is terrafied of snakes and we literally moved every piece of furniture and fitting in the house without success to try and find him... However second and 3rd time... its become less of a panic. We are having a bathroom (opposite my sons bedroom) renovated and figure he is getting inside a cavity ´wall and hence we have not blocked holes so he can escape.. Having "youtubed" what to do we left out several pots of water and moist boxes around the skirting board close to doors (plastic takeaway food tubs with spagnum moss) and check every week... The second time he escaped we found him in a moist box after a skin shed (just outside the moist box). The 2 snakes started the same size but one is now considerabley smaller probably due to his restricted food intake... but both appear very happy. They will sit for 20 or 30 minutes on your hand and take food gently from your fingers.... Probably not good snake husbundary.. but they are chilled and even curl up on my sons lap whilst he is reading in bed! Every time the 2 snakes are reintroduced they immediatly curl up together. We now figure out and have blocked the 6 or 7mm hole (for a wire) the snake was using to escape from the roof of the Terrarium. Long story short... as a newbie snake owner... dont panic.. leave out water and a moist pot and eventually they will come home for food.

my friend thought she had lost my ball python because she couldn't find her in the terrarium she ended up being latched onto the top of the inside of her cool hide, and she wouldn't get down it was very funny when she called me panicking that she had lost Pixel (the ball python), and when she realized where she was, she just burst into laughter and annoyance because she didn't realize that she could defy gravity
Lost my snake. I’ll update daily to say what methods in using ta catch her. Day 1: Heat corners, leaving plastic bags to alert of sounds, leaving flour traps for trails, and setting up hides. Day 2: set up some cameras. Got rid of flour traps since they were messy. Checking the house every hour. Pretty sure she’s in the walls.
Is there any advice for a lost snake in an apartment. I feel houses give that extra security for owners that is cant really leave your home space where mine is lost now in my apartment and has the potential to get to another unit or building heating system

No. You'd likely crush it by accident. They don't just go to vital areas of a predatory giant, let alone want to even reveal themselves to us since we're technically predators to them. Which is why they prefer to hide and seek out heat in more seclusive areas like a fridge motor or something less frequented and hidden. They're not plotting machines like humans have made them out to be.
So I have a 40gal tank for my corn snake. The walls are like 1ftish tall. About a year ago v (my corn snake) was about 3ft long. Never underestimate the strength of these little guys. V pushed a whole 5lb to escape.
When I couldn't find my snake when I looked in his tank, I started looking everywhere in my room, and the places that he likes to go like under my couch or mattress. I then came to the conclusion that there was no way to get out, and then I realized he had sneaked into a rock I had had in his tank for a couple of days. It was a fish tank type of rock that had holes in the bottom so he got up there. What a crazy baby😂

Heat sources like a lamp or hot water heater bc snakes will seek heat if they have been out and cold.

I've had my first snake, a baby corn snake named Francis, for 2 weeks and he's gone. I'm freaking out! He's so tiny, I don't want to crush him😰
And chances are he escaped early in the night, and his enclosure is really close to the door. As I said, he's a baby so he could've squeezed through the door crack. From my door there's a long hallway to the left and the right.
Long story short, I don't know where he could be and am waiting for the night so he'll crawl out of the darkness

My first corn got loose and went in my propane fire place which I never use. He went behind the wire mesh and there was no way to get him. Think he managed to get outside and I never found him.
My brother lost his snake today and we found her under the fridge within the first hour. Poor baby was cold coming back to her terrarium.
I thought she would have been inside the coat closet packed with blankets and boxes. I wasted my time take it apart but at least it’s clean now😂

My corn snake Deymon escapes I always find him in the downstairs of my duplex. Thank goodness a member of my family lives there and is not scared of him.
My baby ball python escaped twice in my room, and I found him in my boots both times. I finally figured out how he cleverly escaped after I stayed up one night to watch him do it. I fixed the problem, but he escaped AGAIN and somehow got tangled in cables behind my dresser. It took a while to get him out carefully, but it went well. Since replacing his enclosure's lid, he hasn't escaped.
U can also use ton foil in a hiding place so when they go over it it makes a sound
Yeah Honey, i do yank it out 😂🙏 Well some times it is not the first place, but you have to kind of understand what a comfy hide for a snake is. Dont think like a human, be the snake, imaging where you will be comfy as a snake. It is not likely your snake search for warmth, only if it just ate. Then it is more likely 😊 So as josser says check everywhere, they love to squeeze themself unimaginable places 😉
Ahh I remember the first month I got my bp vanilla cream he escaped and he hid in my heater( was off) from my cats and he had wounds! I had to take him to the vet immediately but I was working al day. Ended up in the vet er for him at 12 am (only one in SF) and got him medication and checkups and he’s thriving now 7 months later. I love him. I still hate myself for my careless-ness

I actually have not been this devastated in my life. My baby hognose has escaped and I’ve been a complete wreck all morning I have no clue how he could’ve gotten out but I have a heat blanket on the ground and a mouse on a plate :( I feel terrible 😢

had it last week, my bp comes out of his enclosure and runs around my room , but my mom did not close my door after greeting me so he got out, one does not stop looking until i find Soba, found him after 2 long hours

My all python pushed up his lid of his enclosure because I didn’t put any locks on and he snuck in between my bed and the wall under a whole bunch of stuffed animals. We did find him and he is okay now.
Great videos and helped a lot when we were deciding what snake to get for my 7 year old son.... received 2 snakes last October for his birthday. 6mth old milk snakes Orange Red Black... really pretty. They are housed together in a Eco Terrex terrarium. However 1 or the 2 snakes has managed to escape 3 times and spent more than 5 of the past 7 months somewhere in our house. He was most recently discovered after his 3rd escape (yet again) making his way back to the Terrarium for food. We panicked the first time he escaped (he was missing from November to end January). The wife is terrafied of snakes and we literally moved every piece of furniture and fitting in the house without success to try and find him... However second and 3rd time... its become less of a panic. We are having a bathroom (opposite my sons bedroom) renovated and figure he is getting inside a cavity ´wall and hence we have not blocked holes so he can escape.. Having "youtubed" what to do we left out several pots of water and moist boxes around the skirting board close to doors (plastic takeaway food tubs with spagnum moss) and check every week... The second time he escaped we found him in a moist box after a skin shed (just outside the moist box). The 2 snakes started the same size but one is now considerabley smaller probably due to his restricted food intake... but both appear very happy. They will sit for 20 or 30 minutes on your hand and take food gently from your fingers.... Probably not good snake husbundary.. but they are chilled and even curl up on my sons lap whilst he is reading in bed! Every time the 2 snakes are reintroduced they immediatly curl up together. We now figure out and have blocked the 6 or 7mm hole (for a wire) the snake was using to escape from the roof of the Terrarium. Long story short... as a newbie snake owner... dont panic.. leave out water and a moist pot and eventually they will come home for food.

Also you can put plastic bags in different places then when the snake goes over the plastic bag you will hear it and know where he/she is.

my friend thought she had lost my ball python because she couldn't find her in the terrarium
she ended up being latched onto the top of the inside of her cool hide, and she wouldn't get down
it was very funny when she called me panicking that she had lost Pixel (the ball python), and when she realized where she was, she just burst into laughter and annoyance because she didn't realize that she could defy gravity
Lost my snake. I’ll update daily to say what methods in using ta catch her.
Day 1: Heat corners, leaving plastic bags to alert of sounds, leaving flour traps for trails, and setting up hides.
Day 2: set up some cameras. Got rid of flour traps since they were messy. Checking the house every hour. Pretty sure she’s in the walls.

Small colubrid babies can escape from exo terras from the back vents. Be careful! Thankfully mine squeezed out and into the exo terra just underneath.

Is there any advice for a lost snake in an apartment. I feel houses give that extra security for owners that is cant really leave your home space where mine is lost now in my apartment and has the potential to get to another unit or building heating system

I have a weird question if your snake gets loose at night while your sleeping is there any way the snake will go around your neck and possibly choke you? I guess that would be my fear.
No. You'd likely crush it by accident. They don't just go to vital areas of a predatory giant, let alone want to even reveal themselves to us since we're technically predators to them. Which is why they prefer to hide and seek out heat in more seclusive areas like a fridge motor or something less frequented and hidden. They're not plotting machines like humans have made them out to be.

So I have a 40gal tank for my corn snake. The walls are like 1ftish tall. About a year ago v (my corn snake) was about 3ft long. Never underestimate the strength of these little guys. V pushed a whole 5lb to escape.
Good thing I haven't lost my snakes.
But I lost the sight of the big spider behind my TV.
When I couldn't find my snake when I looked in his tank, I started looking everywhere in my room, and the places that he likes to go like under my couch or mattress. I then came to the conclusion that there was no way to get out, and then I realized he had sneaked into a rock I had had in his tank for a couple of days. It was a fish tank type of rock that had holes in the bottom so he got up there. What a crazy baby😂

Found out my baby Mexican black king snake was not in her tank today when I went to clean it, i have absolutely no idea how she got out as well. My snake got out maybe 3 or 4ish days ago and found him under my bed...i fell asleep with him in my hands last night and he was again under my bed...luckily my room is small but safe to say if they get out more than once they should be in the sameish area
