The Sims 2 set up a detection radius for cheating, so that certain actions had wider and smaller detection radii. Like WooHoo had a huge detection radius on the lot, so it would have to be a huge lot with some on opposite sides for it not to be detected, while two sims kissing could be missed between two rooms but detected between one. It was really incredibly intuitive.
I feel like cheating happens all the time in the sims 4 when u aren’t even trying. Like joining in a townie conversation where everyone starts flirting. It’s weird asf 😭

In the Sims 3 the partner who was cheated on can also autonomously file for divorce when the betrayed moodlet expires. I was pleasantly surprised when it first happaned in my game! You go girl, you deserve better

I remember creating some drama in The Sims 3 and making Iliana Langerak cheat on her husband Dustin in front of the whole family with a co-worker. It was honestly so hilarious and chaotic. What made it even better was that by the end, her co-worker actually rejected her (even though he was into it at first) and a notification popped up saying "Girl, you've got issues, I don't want to take part in this." and stormed off 😂. I think the game actually realises that she was cheating in front of her family, and even her cheating partner was like, yeah, you sort this shit out yourself girl 😂.

It was in the form that when something would happen or a sim would say the wrong thing they’ll decline interactions and things like you can’t sleep in the bed with a partner who cheated until the betrayed moodlet expires , any romantic interactions will be declined and if your sim doesn’t try to make amends like talk and joke with the betrayed moodlet more than like you they file for divorce on their own .
Every time I see the besties household in Sims 4 or whatever the hell they're called I think why didn't they add one sided relationships if this was a storyline they were going for? It would add SO much depth

He fell in love with a pretty girl and was wooing her for a good while (two full green bars + romance, remember!). He finally proposed, only to be declined. We were shocked so we went into her family to find 0 POINTS in romance on her side. He had full 100 bar and she had 0. He was friend zoned! In the early 2000s. Truly groundbreaking!
In TS3, if you haven't significantly repaired the relationship by the time the moodlet wears off, the sim who got cheated on will break up with the other automatically.
Sims 2 was wild. I remember I had the dad of the family cheat on his wife in their basement hot tub and then she divorced him and he moved out. Since she didn't make as much money on her own the family had to switch to a cheaper computer and repair it themselves. Of course, the teenage son got electrocuted several times during repairs, and the child protective services showed up and took him away. Not sure if the game is programmed to do that after teens get electrocuted a certain number of times, or if his needs just got too low. My 11 year old self was horrified at this turn of events.
I think you could tattle to someone’s spouse if you saw them cheat in Sims 3. Like I’m pretty sure I remember my sims’ kid telling his mom that the other mom had cheated.
I'm also fairly certain that in the sims 3, the couple will eventually break up if you don't repair their relationship after cheating is discovered - but that's just from my memory.

In 4, the loyal trait makes sims regret cheating. Made a gal who had a quick fling with Kyle while she was single but then would get tense any time she flirted with someone else so I had to have her marry Kyle.
I think you could have stopped this by having your Sim ask to “just be friends” with Kyle - it’s a friendly social under “deep thoughts” and resets your romance bar to 0. Just in case it comes up again!
I have had the cheating milestone show up in the sims 4 but only after they slept with the other sim. I also constantly have to stop my sims from autonomously flirting with other sims the second they stop talking to their partners. I had one sim who kept trying to flirt with his partner's brother any time they were in the home, then they just go back to having a normal conversation and then try to flirt with someone else 3 seconds later.
if ts3 sims catch your sim with another person, they'll call you a traitor, fight, break up and loose all relationship points with your sim even when the relationship ISN'T official. they think casual dates should be loyal and i both hate and love how unhinged that is. how much they care about loyalty also seems to vary from sim to sim, but maybe it's just my impression.
In Sims 3 I had the Late Nights expansion through no fault of my own and I had a famous Sim, and one day someone placed a rumour that they were cheating and my whole family fell apart. It was honestly traumatizing to me.
The Sims 3 is my favourite too for the sheer amount of stuff you can do. It opens the game up to so much random stuff. I loved that it wanted you to go to the future while you were trying to cheat 😂😂
I don't think they'll ever fix how the traits don't effect the game in TS4 since they're already working on a new game. It would have been addressed in the early years if they were, IMO.

there is a thing in sims 2 that you can cheat (kiss, hug ect.) with another sim in the same house as long as the other sim can't see it. But if you cheat by woohooing in the same house, even if the other sim can't see it, they will know and come running. believe me i tried this to test a theory haha

When you complete the "serial romantic" or whatever aspiration you get a bonus trait so you can flirt with anyone and they won't get jealous nor will you be guilty. You just have to complete a whole aspiration to have free love for one sim lol
In sims 3 when you get a naughty reputation it makes building Romantic relationships with any other sims harder cos words got around that their a cheater
Nearly every time my sims in the sims 4 have been caught cheating (woohoo, not just kissing) the person who is being cheated on has died of anger.... there's definitely a difference in reaction between flirting/kissing/woohoo. I actually have to be careful in the sims 4, just because i want my sim to have an affair doesnt mean i want the cheatee to die :/
There is a cheat you can use if you don’t want your Sims to die. Open the cheats bar and type in testingcheats true and then when cheats are activated type in death.toggle false When you have that activated no one in the game can die. You can turn deaths back on by typing death.toggle true
And in the sims 1, 2, 3 the relationships developed over time. So if you'd be angry with someone, after some time the anger goes away and you can make a new relationship with them. I miss that in the sims 4, if someone gets angry at you there, no matter how long you wait the relationship will not cool off.
God loved the face in the middle of the options menus in Sims 2. No sarcasm, I legit spent HOURS upon hours making really detailed, unique sims & really loved that I could admire my hot babes & cool goths while playing them & it also totally made me more emotionally involved with them I swear (tho maybe thats got something to do with the autismus lol idk)

The cheating mechanic in Sims 4 is so messed up. One of my gay sims married Travis but the wedding was messed up just because Liberty talked to my sim. After that, weddings in any of my games became family only affairs in the family lot.
I accidentally did incest in my legacy cause I don't know the extended family anymore and I feel like the sims needs to block this possibility cause I was DISGUSTED💀😭 I wish it was only cheating.
There's a mod called Family Connections by adeepindigo I believe. Another mod that can help is RPO by lumpinou, there is an option to block sims from doing romantic interactions, so you can manually block out as much of their family members as you can remember.

If you play the Sims 4 there's a mod called Set Family Relationships with an add-on to disable incest, so you can manually tag someone as, like, a step-child/cousin/etc and no funny business can happen. I wish these were in base game because I keep having big families with a lot of cousins!

i have a mod (don't remember the name unfortunately) of traits that get assigned at the start of the game, with prefers exclusive relationships, prefers open relationships, and no preference. really great mod, wish i remembered what it was called :(
Thanks for doing this! I thought Sims 3 did it as well but you confirmed only Sims 2 separates the relationship bars. The one thing I respect about Sims 4 is trying to give us actually poly options so that lifestyle is an option but I feel like instead of a neighborhood thing maybe there just need to be a few more sliders or tags for Poly or monogamous, under the hood elsewhere like they did with sexuality, and of course stuff like lactose intolerant and vegetarian/vegan shouldn't be traits either but in a different spot. Lifestyles should be revamped and base game or else they need to create another category that's similar like what if they did sort of an RPG skill tree thing for normal Sims and that stuff was a trait in there?? IDK!
in the sims 4 I used the WW mods (iykyk) and every time I "romance" married sims and ended up doing the thing with them in front of their partners, their partners always died out of rage🤣 idk the way I see it its my own personal game challenge like how many sims can I kill by making them jealous to death (literally) lol
What I despise about Sims 4 is that there is absolutely no autonomous loyalty. Sims go ahead and flirt with anyone at any moment if they're flirty. I had a wedding where both bride and groom were chatting with their friends, out of nowhere they were both angry with each other because they both flirted with the friends for absolutely no reason. Best part is those two friends were a couple themselves, and also got angry at eatch other. I literally quit without saving at that point cause it was pissing me off.

Can tell you for Sims 2, the other Sim knows it's not their child (if they have a want for a child and their partner births the baby, it won't fulfill the want) but won't react if they don't catch their partner in the act of cheating.
To add to what the other commenter above said, a sim also won’t share a bed with a child if it’s not theirs, so they definitely ’know,’ at least indirect.
tbh i think the sims 4 one is bard bc even when sims autonomously chrat and now i gotta deal with the aftermath, they always have bad sentiments so theyre always angry/tense so they just autonomously insult each other :(
The Sims and Sims 2 both have one-sided relationships. They also are the only ones to use personality points and have interests (which change throughout gameplay, as irl).
I don't think they are bothered to fix the ssims in 4. We've been complaining about this for years and they haven't been stuffed to do it. I can't even consider playing TS5 if they never fix ts4 I don't want shallow sims

I WISH we had TS2 style memories in Sims 4, god. The STORYTELLING possibilities.
In Sims 3 I had the Late Nights expansion through no fault of my own and I had a famous Sim, and one day someone placed a rumour that they were cheating and my whole family fell apart. It was honestly traumatizing to me.
The Sims 3 is my favourite too for the sheer amount of stuff you can do. It opens the game up to so much random stuff. I loved that it wanted you to go to the future while you were trying to cheat 😂😂
I don't think they'll ever fix how the traits don't effect the game in TS4 since they're already working on a new game. It would have been addressed in the early years if they were, IMO.
they'd have to rework the entire game and they just can't be bothered
Personally I've only really played 4, but the more I find out about the earlier games, the more I REALLY want to play them.
Sims 4 is also my first sims game, I've just downloaded and played sims 2 recently and I absolutely love it, no wonder pp say it's the best sims game so far 😂

I remember one time when I was playing with a family, the dad and grandma started an affair all on their own. Have no idea how it happened or when it started, but found out when the mum caught them. This was on the sims 3.

Sims 2 relationships really should be the standard at this point
there is a thing in sims 2 that you can cheat (kiss, hug ect.) with another sim in the same house as long as the other sim can't see it. But if you cheat by woohooing in the same house, even if the other sim can't see it, they will know and come running. believe me i tried this to test a theory haha
This has made me want to rediscover the beauty and grace that is the Sims 3 all over again 🥰

When you complete the "serial romantic" or whatever aspiration you get a bonus trait so you can flirt with anyone and they won't get jealous nor will you be guilty. You just have to complete a whole aspiration to have free love for one sim lol

In sims 3 when you get a naughty reputation it makes building Romantic relationships with any other sims harder cos words got around that their a cheater

Nearly every time my sims in the sims 4 have been caught cheating (woohoo, not just kissing) the person who is being cheated on has died of anger.... there's definitely a difference in reaction between flirting/kissing/woohoo. I actually have to be careful in the sims 4, just because i want my sim to have an affair doesnt mean i want the cheatee to die :/
There is a cheat you can use if you don’t want your Sims to die. Open the cheats bar and type in testingcheats true and then when cheats are activated type in death.toggle false When you have that activated no one in the game can die. You can turn deaths back on by typing death.toggle true
And in the sims 1, 2, 3 the relationships developed over time. So if you'd be angry with someone, after some time the anger goes away and you can make a new relationship with them. I miss that in the sims 4, if someone gets angry at you there, no matter how long you wait the relationship will not cool off.
OHOHO how I adored cheating in the sims 2
God loved the face in the middle of the options menus in Sims 2. No sarcasm, I legit spent HOURS upon hours making really detailed, unique sims & really loved that I could admire my hot babes & cool goths while playing them & it also totally made me more emotionally involved with them I swear (tho maybe thats got something to do with the autismus lol idk)

I remember trying to woohoo with everyone in my dorm in university life sims 2 and even at the beginning, after just having one partner, the other people in the dorm would gossip and it get back to my original partner
I could be making it up but I remember it being impossible without putting a bed on the roof and locking like 3 doors or something

The cheating mechanic in Sims 4 is so messed up. One of my gay sims married Travis but the wedding was messed up just because Liberty talked to my sim. After that, weddings in any of my games became family only affairs in the family lot.
I accidentally did incest in my legacy cause I don't know the extended family anymore and I feel like the sims needs to block this possibility cause I was DISGUSTED💀😭
I wish it was only cheating.
i always check the family tree when i marry a townie because if i don't, my sim will flirt with their spouse's kid after they age up to adult! 🤮
There's a mod called Family Connections by adeepindigo I believe.
Another mod that can help is RPO by lumpinou, there is an option to block sims from doing romantic interactions, so you can manually block out as much of their family members as you can remember.
@@halieeYeah omfg!!! If you play the Sims 4 there's a mod called Set Family Relationships with an add-on to disable incest, so you can manually tag someone as, like, a step-child/cousin/etc and no funny business can happen. I wish these were in base game because I keep having big families with a lot of cousins!
I swear one detail I remember one of the games having in the past was if a child witnessed one of their parents cheating, they had the option to tell the other parent. Does everyone else remember that or was I dreaming?
For all the praise that TS3 gets, TS2 definitely had the best relationship system. It was soo layered!
I do like that TS4 is trying to emulate that more and more though, but it'll never reach that level
Honestly the free love neighborhood action plan from the eco lifestyle pack is probably one of my favorite things from the pack, my sims can live out their poly dreams without being forced to sneak around 😂😂😂
i have a mod (don't remember the name unfortunately) of traits that get assigned at the start of the game, with prefers exclusive relationships, prefers open relationships, and no preference. really great mod, wish i remembered what it was called :(

Thanks for doing this! I thought Sims 3 did it as well but you confirmed only Sims 2 separates the relationship bars. The one thing I respect about Sims 4 is trying to give us actually poly options so that lifestyle is an option but I feel like instead of a neighborhood thing maybe there just need to be a few more sliders or tags for Poly or monogamous, under the hood elsewhere like they did with sexuality, and of course stuff like lactose intolerant and vegetarian/vegan shouldn't be traits either but in a different spot. Lifestyles should be revamped and base game or else they need to create another category that's similar like what if they did sort of an RPG skill tree thing for normal Sims and that stuff was a trait in there?? IDK!
in the sims 4 I used the WW mods (iykyk) and every time I "romance" married sims and ended up doing the thing with them in front of their partners, their partners always died out of rage🤣 idk the way I see it its my own personal game challenge like how many sims can I kill by making them jealous to death (literally) lol
What I despise about Sims 4 is that there is absolutely no autonomous loyalty. Sims go ahead and flirt with anyone at any moment if they're flirty. I had a wedding where both bride and groom were chatting with their friends, out of nowhere they were both angry with each other because they both flirted with the friends for absolutely no reason. Best part is those two friends were a couple themselves, and also got angry at eatch other. I literally quit without saving at that point cause it was pissing me off.

Idk why sims 4 just has so much less flavor than the last 2 games, plus I left my sims on full autonomy when I went to the bathroom and 2 min later I come back to my sims fully hating each other because apparently the husband started rapid-fire flirting with some random chick that showed up at the door like ???? why can they choose to just do that?! 💀 I swear that never happened to me in any of the other sims games
In the Sims 3 there's also moodlets for the kids! I remember my sim cheating and the kids got specific moodlets about their parents cheating

My very first sims game was the sims 3 on console (ps3) and I still play it from time to time whenever I boot up my ps3 (it still works perfectly fine and I have zero issues with it). I honestly love creating a bunch of drama in the sims 3, it's so much fun.

I've always wondered what would happen in each game (except 1 ofc) if you had a lesbian couple and got one of them pregnant by a man. Would the other one know immediately and react?
Can tell you for Sims 2, the other Sim knows it's not their child (if they have a want for a child and their partner births the baby, it won't fulfill the want) but won't react if they don't catch their partner in the act of cheating.
To add to what the other commenter above said, a sim also won’t share a bed with a child if it’s not theirs, so they definitely ’know,’ at least indirect.

tbh i think the sims 4 one is bard bc even when sims autonomously chrat and now i gotta deal with the aftermath, they always have bad sentiments so theyre always angry/tense so they just autonomously insult each other :(
The Sims and Sims 2 both have one-sided relationships. They also are the only ones to use personality points and have interests (which change throughout gameplay, as irl).

I don't think they are bothered to fix the ssims in 4. We've been complaining about this for years and they haven't been stuffed to do it. I can't even consider playing TS5 if they never fix ts4 I don't want shallow sims
