My d4k is being delivered today, my first hank light. Thank you for making such well structured product reviews, they're really helpful for a buying guide!
I didn't expect to love this light as much as I do. I bought it on a whim and now I want all kinds of iterations for it. Still patiently waiting Hanks entry into the 14500 world though.
14500 is my perfect edc size. (Will not carry larger actually and I seem to always lose AAA size lights eventually.) Would buy a AA Hanklight in about 2 seconds.
I think if Hank added a usb c charging port to the Emisar D4 family it would make his lights super untouchable! The ultimate edc light! Charge anywhere on the go..
Seems like a great design, like what the D4 always should have been... but even with a D4's smaller battery, it still takes me several months to use a single charge. A 16340, 18350, or 14500 cell lasts me a month, while 18650 lasts a few months, and 21700 lasts most of a year. I don't really need that much runtime, so I hope he'll make some smaller lights eventually. The main light I use is a KR4-Ti 219b sw45k... so I'd love to see a 14500-sized one with a single LED. Or a Noctigon 18350 version of Olight's S-Mini.
I'm not the best at judging "real-world" runtimes because I have so many lights and randomly switch them out most days, but 18650 has always been more than enough for me, which a charge every ~2 months or so on the lights I use regularly. The D4V2 has been an exception though with it's floody beam and crazy turbo that begs to be used, so the extra capacity counts for a lot to me - I don't think I could step down to 14500 on a triple/quad... but a single-emitter light would be a different story
@@wesolowskimatt Because I usually only need a few lumens. For example, I have a 3.7 V 14500 cell with 900 mAh capacity. Put it in an average light which gets 90 lm/W, and run it at 10 lm, and it should last for about 30 hours. That's an hour a day for about a month.
I just got my D4k and I love it. 519a 4500k domed and boost driver, dark grey with amber switch. Super clean floody beam and it stays cooler than I expected. I already want another with the 519a 5700k in the arc white with a cool white switch. I have big hands and big pockets so I might need a few D4Sv2 models as well... And the DT8K looks amazing as well. Too many choices!
Domed 519a + boost driver is a great combo, I have a KR4 with that configuration and love using it. I haven't tried it yet but am excited to get ahold of the DT8K! It's what I felt the DT8 should have been originally. D4SV2 is still my favorite light from Hank :)
The 21700 cells are the best for the output but the disadvantage is that they heat up too much, there are very few that last more than 1 minute without heating up with a 21700 on.
I still don´t have one of these lights but, I would rather go with the D4V2 as well for an EDC as the D4K is simply too big for me. My current EDC is a Convoy S2+ 18350 and it´s the perfect size for me.
I tend to EDC an S2+ with the usual 18650 tube. 21700 is just a tad too much weight for my usual carry routine, where the flashlight barely sees use. I use my 21700s for sure, but mostly for fun at home or if I go out at night and expect to need plenty of luminosity.
I have this light in raw copper and with the Nichia E17A in 1850K in my shopping cart, and I'm SOO tempted to place the order 😁 I've been wanting a copper flashlight with a SUPER WARM white emitter for years now. But I'm broke, so it's probably a bad idea to buy it...😅 But then again, I COULD eat less food? 🤔
I ended up ordering one and patiently waiting. I decided to go with sheer output vs longer run times so I ended up not going with the boost driver. I felt like 21700 has good runtimes by itself. I did go with 519a 5700k dedomed. Thanks for the content 🤙
@@Cjmm007 I love it. I went with 519a 5700 dedomed. It had great tint and turbo is really bright. Had good amount of flood but even has some throw since it’s dedomed. 21700 batt lasts pretty well without the boost drive, but again I’d rather have a brighter turbo. I’d definitely recommend.

Hank has a new 14500 light. It looks like a mini D4K. D3AA probably 3 emitters. I'm not a huge fan of mini lights though unless its on my keychain like my RovyVon.
More output? My D4V2 already gets hot super fast. This design isn't really mean for "high output". I think I'll stick with the tad smaller/thinner form factor. My Emisar, currently on the way, has the boost circuit to keep from such heat and output. At least than that over non boost.
I have 1 in sst20 6500k fet driver. Great hot rod but this light is more for fun. Short bursts on turbo and high. On high it steps down quite fast, yes you can trick temp senzor and raise step down but it gets so hot you cant hold it. After that i bought another one in 519a 5700k and boost driver. For me it is a lot better. Can substain high with no problem, turbo is just a little brighter than high, but if you want light to use this is winner for me. You might have your thermal configuration set incorrectly. I would recommend letting the light settle to room temperature and then doing a factory reset (13H). If that still doesn't work, there could be issues with the hardware config or a faulty firmware flash. Consider asking the folks at r/flashlight.
Did you get a D2?! And if so, are you planning on making a video about it? Not many videos about them atm, I have a craving for one of your detailed reviews!
I have not gotten a D2 yet, unfortunately the list of new Hank lights has grown much faster than I can keep up with - the updated DM11, DT8K, D1K, D2, and soon the M44. I may or not cover these lights at some point, but it will be brief since I don't have time to make in-depth reviews right now.

Thank you In advance for your time and recommendations. I’m also interested in the Nichia emitters but I’m m looking for something white
The Osram W2 is about 5700K and the brightest option for these lights, unless you can get XP-L HD in 5000K or 5700K ( but those aren't as clean white as the Osram) The 519a can also be had in 5700K
@@LuxWad the 519 is exactly what I was thinking about. I want to get on with dual channel. One set with w2 leds and for the second set I want something floody for indoor edc use.
LuxWad for a small light with 519a do you recommend to get Boost driver or just regular and use sparingly? With D4Sv2 I can understand to go regular as it can take a while to get hot on turbo and bigger battery means longer run time.
I hope to compare the linear and boost drivers directly with a 519a light soon, but for now I would recommend the boost driver especially for this light as it gets extremely hot on turbo with the FET. You really can't go wrong either way, just a preference thing.
@@LuxWad ok thank you. I’m glad you said that because my D4K and D4S 519a are both Boost and sometimes I regret as I want full lumen blast like your videos. I should went with regular driver on my D4S though for the higher turbo lumen on a bigger host.
More or less. The linear drivers do have lower and more stable Moonlight modes, so if you spend most of your time at the lowest levels, there's a strong case to go linear (sorry should have mentioned that earlier)
@@LuxWad I went with D4Sv2 boost because I wanted to use them for long period too. 1x D4S 2700K DD for night cozzy, and another 1x D4S tint mix to be use as EDC when I need to work on something or when there's a blackout. I have not tried Linear driver before. My next I'll definitely get a D4S W2 with Linear for the full hot rod fun. Then probably another D4Sv2 519a but with Linear driver and Dome so I can experience how bright the 519a? Do you think it's worth it? Or the 519a Linear will not be bright enough over the boost to justify for a new light?
Awesome videos! Will you be covering FirefliesLite as well now that they have their new site? Like maybe a comparison with the E07/x with the D4K or maybe the E12C/R with the DM1.12
@@LuxWad Awesome, looking forward to it! The P01 is on sale right now on release, new site is like Emisar's but 'firefly' instead of 'intl'. I was too slow in getting the PL47MU in E21 but almost everything else should be available.
I'm still ordering D4v2's in 2024. I find it's the max size I'm willing to EDC. The 21700 lights are fine in a winter coat, but can't fit in my pant's pocket without having to explain it to embarrassed people.
Any chance to add a stone white 18350 tube? I have the stone white D4k with 519's and 3500k Love all my D4v2's, D4sV2 and DW4. But the Stonewhite is such a good looking besides my Cyan, TiCopper and all aluminium Colours. Does he have the RGB backswitch as option in the menue or still in the hidden menue?
The DW4 is available in stone white and has an 18350 tube, however the D4K has no short tube options right now. It is a really nice finish! RGB switch is a hidden menu item, it's linked to the front auxiliaires and I think they won't work with the RGB switch, that could be wrong though I don't remember what he said about it
@@LuxWad thank you. When I did order my Stone White D4K, there was no option to add a 18350 tube in Stone White, like I was used to from my D4V2 or DW4 angled in other colours, like cyan, grey or sand. But that was long ago, when the D4K was brand new to the Portfolio. Next Hank light will be another Stone White D4K, with a Dual Channel and I'll try to add a 18350 tube
@@MartinLeschinski The D4K won't take an 18350 tube since that is for the smaller head of the older D4 models, Hank would need to release a new battery tube for the K lights
Ok, man!! I'm so confused. Alright first off I'm a newby when it comes to this space so please excuse me a little bit. I've been into flashlights since I was a kid. I'm in my fifties now. I've never heard the terms of "throw" and such. Now I can guess what it means in general, if it means more than I think it means, I will probably require some schoolin'. Can anybody here point me toward a good tutorial video or bbs to browse and learn up? Thanks one and all.
This is a good place to start: www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/wiki/index/#wiki_flashlight_glossary_.26amp.3B_information If you want more information, you can look and ask around www.budgetlightforum.com and r/flashlight on Reddit. I'm sure there are some good videos that explain all of this, I would check out cpfselfbuilt's youtube channel, it's a bit old but the information is very good. I hope to move away from reviews on this channel so I can make videos that explain all of these concepts clearly. Hope that helps :)
I don't get it. You said d4k is better, then at the end say d4v2 is better, but d4v2 is dead? You said you think it's functionally better than the d4 in every ways at the end. And you say you prefer d4v2. it's lighter better edc. You contradicted yourself and just made people confused.
Yep, a lot of people were confused by this video. My bad. I think the D4K is better, and the D4V2 would be 100% obsolete if Hank just had an 18650 tube option for the D4K. As it is, I recommend the D4K, but since I already have the smaller D4V2 I prefer to carry it instead.

Is there a tail switch version of the D4K?
No
So is Hank doing 12 amp drivers now?
What other drivers can you get this with
Apparently on the D4K he is.
Awesome videos! Will you be covering FirefliesLite as well now that they have their new site? Like maybe a comparison with the E07/x with the D4K or maybe the E12C/R with the DM1.12
Interesting, I didn't know they have a new site.
I plan to review the E07xPro, possibly the P01 too
@@LuxWad Awesome, looking forward to it! The P01 is on sale right now on release, new site is like Emisar's but 'firefly' instead of 'intl'. I was too slow in getting the PL47MU in E21 but almost everything else should be available.
Was your light domed or dedomed? 5700 or 5000k? Thanks
5000K domed
How is the MAO one holding up, scratch wise?
It's about the same as my cyan lights, a couple short drops onto concrete have left some small marks but nothing too bad
@@LuxWad Nice, so they're not as bad as some MAO. Like Convoy for example where you could accidentally leave marks with your fingernails?
No not that bad. They will still pick up dirt and grime very easily however
@@LuxWad That's okay I can clean it. At least dirt isn't permanent like scratches. Thanks for the info!
Where do you get the molicels?
18650batterystore.com
Thank you
does the d4k bezel fit on a d4v2?
Yes, it is the same
I'm still ordering D4v2's in 2024. I find it's the max size I'm willing to EDC. The 21700 lights are fine in a winter coat, but can't fit in my pant's pocket without having to explain it to embarrassed people.
I too find that I just always reach for 18650 lights to carry instead
Any chance to add a stone white 18350 tube? I have the stone white D4k with 519's and 3500k
Love all my D4v2's, D4sV2 and DW4.
@@LuxWad thank you for the important information. Now I get it 😀
Totally forgot about the different head, compared to D4V2.
This is a good place to start: www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/wiki/index/#wiki_flashlight_glossary_.26amp.3B_information
If you want more information, you can look and ask around www.budgetlightforum.com and r/flashlight on Reddit.
I'm sure there are some good videos that explain all of this, I would check out cpfselfbuilt's youtube channel, it's a bit old but the information is very good. I hope to move away from reviews on this channel so I can make videos that explain all of these concepts clearly.
Hope that helps :)
@@LuxWad thanks much.
@LuxWad ok, that makes sense, but for now, d4v2 is kind of better because it has an 18650 tube.
@@LuxWad you could technically use an 18650 for any light that takes a 21700. you just need to put orings around the battery
З радістю прийняв би в дарунок Ваш "вбитий/непотрібний" D4V2!.. 🇺🇦
Sorry I still need these lights for more videos ;)
@UCtWvemJySOEAE0i3ux3-5cw My friend I'm sure you need all the light you can get - Ive been praying for you, stay safe!
So who wants to buy all my d4v2s?
Woah thats REALLY mediocre sustained output!
Yeah pretty poor, it also runs extremely hot
I'd love to get a 21700 emisar headlamp
