I literally can't wait for your weekly video tutorials, Paul. I particularly like your personality, humour and technique. Your videos are concise without being rushed. I absolutely love how you give your paint mixtures/ratios as you paint with numerous explanations about why and how you are accomplishing the steps. You are my new favorite watercolorist on UA-cam without a doubt. Many thanks to you. I'm already looking forward to next week's installment. 👍👏

I've been binge-watching your videos for the past couple of days after discovering your channel (got to get an acrylic Santa Claus painting done for my grandchildren before I start putting your tuition into practice) but just wanted to agree with the person who mentioned the music you use - it's a real de-stresser, doesn't distract from the content itself and perfectly complements your style of presentation. Thank you very much for your thoughtfulness in this regard.

These are lovely soft mountains. I can't wait to give them a try. I would love to see a tutorial on distant rugged snow-capped mountains, such as the Alps. By the way, I love the tribute to Bob Ross and his "happy little trees".

So many people are very snobby about Bob Ross, but he was the one who first got me interested in painting in the 80's. I did originally paint in oils and acrylic. He was such a kind soul. Love this tutorial.

I SO enjoy all of your videos. You are so detailed and versatile. The first thing I learned was, "it's Pole Clawk" and you use a "number 3 riggaw". Then I paid more attention to the instructions. I'm 87 and have only used Acrylics doing murals. Now that I can't climb a ladder and sitting is my most comfortable position, watercolor painting has become a passion to learn. I watch so many videos, but Louise" De Masi and you are my favorites. Totally different styles and subjects, but both the kind of precise instruction I need.
I've painted this scene twice. I haven't learned the light touch watercolor can have if properly painted so I wasn't satisfied with the first, and painted the second. I was looking for a the little improvement when I knocked a half full pint jar of water all over the painting, my desk, my lap and the rug drank the rest. "No, you can't "stretch" your painting after you paint the picture!" So, I hope the addage, "Third time's the charm" is true. I will try again in two days, "Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise".
Thank you for your years of experience and knowledge that you share so humorously.

I got started painting during lockdowns after watching Bob Ross’ series
“The Joy of Painting.” I find his voice relaxing and when I can’t sleep I listen to his videos. He makes oil painting look so easy but I found it isn’t that easy. I soon switched to watercolor painting and recently found your channel. I have learned so much through your videos. I have been watching all your previous videos and look forward to new ones each week. You have a great sense of humor which makes it even more enjoyable. I appreciate that you share your knowledge, tips, instruction, talent, enthusiasm and humor with others. Painting has become my therapy and has kept my sanity over these past 2+ years! After 20 years or so in the Air Force Bob Ross taught us how to paint wet in wet acrylic and oils. He did it all for free on PBS. I loved watching him bring a white sheet of paper to life. I loved it so much that I started and I owe it all to him. July 1995 was one of the saddest months (well August) in my personal history. My first deployment on a Western Pacific cruise in the Navy(aka WestPac). In August we had a Tomcat strike the fantail and almost lost the pilot and the RIO. Luck was with us all. Luck and some damn fine sailors with their stuff tight. After sorties and clean up I heeded below deck and got the news of Bob's passing. We don't get a lot of news at sea. I knew he was sick pre-deployment. I was alone and I started to cry. All the adrenalin and the excitement and War and OMG I am in the middle of the Persian Gulf surrounded by sea snakes and war and the death of an idol just filled me to bursting. Sad. I felt like I had to hide. Then an NCO witnessed and he told me it was natural. Soothing my emotional state was very very important. I told him of Bob and I think he was about to cry too.

I would like to see a painting with fog in it. For last nine months after lockdown in India,I started painting seeing UA-cam videos of various artists.I started with Oil pastels of my kids ,which were used up and worn out ones. But That didn't deter me.Then came soft pastels. Then poster colors and then finally I got my hands on acrylic painting. This was a turning point ,that last sunday I painted 20×20inch stretched Canvas painting inspired by UVN art.But for two days after seeing YOUR water colour videos I am terribly inclined to do this style too.Let me see How many days waiting👍

I loved watching Bob Ross with my children years ago. I think you are similar in that you have his calm way of teaching which helps us to relax and enjoy what we are doing. However, I don't recall seeing the clip of Bob that you showed nor do I remember him having a British accent.... 😉 Happy painting! Rose

You are hilarious Paul. :) I so enjoyed your tutorial. Thanks so much for talking us through step by step and sharing the colors you're using. I almost think I could do this! I appreciate you sharing your techniques as well. Your mountains are amazing! It's what caught my eye!!! And thanks for not disappointing us by withholding your splatters!!!

There is so much light coming from the painting - lovely! As an aside, I sometimes try to work out what techniques you used before I watched the video. The background mountains were a puzzle - I thought you may have used brusho - wrong! Great to watch you at work with excellent advice - thanks again.

Bob and his mentor Bill Alexander, at one time great friends, feuded for years. Bill had his own tv show for a few years, taught Bob and Bob went on to become who we still see on reruns if we bother to watch him. Most people think the feud was about Bob claiming he invented the technique. Not so. He didn't invent it, he didn't claim to have invented it and that wasn't what the feud was about. Bill said that Bob thought he was a better painter than himself. Personally I don't think he was but he had the personality and presence that Bill lacked and he did know how to make money with it. That's the story for anyone who didn't know it.
I like your techniques much, much better. Much harder than the method of oil painting that Bill and Bob did. Watercolor requires so much more. I know since I've done both for years.
You're a much better painter than either Bob, Bill or myself.

@@joecool8005 I missed that. Probably wouldn't have watched it. I got burned out on the whole mess in '83.
Now and then when surfing for something to watch my wife will stop to watch Bob seduce the canvas. 😏

Thanks again Chuck - thats really interesting stuff. I did watch a documentary on him recently on UA-cam - perhaps the same one Joe mentions below (him not me!) - I found it totally fascinating and quite intriguing that he didn't consider himself to be a great painter. He certainly had the personality that Bill didn't have.

I had a wee snigger at the watercolour police, I've already been told off for signing in ink as that makes it mixed media apparently! So it was with glee I got the pastels out and just for good measure a scrape of bleed proof white for the water highlights. All joking aside, fab tutorial, I always learn something in your tutorials, the guidance is so good I always manage to produce something I'm pleased with.
