Help! What do other full time RVers or Tornado experienced folks do when in this situation? Obviously, we have much to learn 😳
Always go to RV Park Restroom Buildings as they are usually the safest. Love your videos. We fulltimed for 12 years. Lots of fun and made lots of memories.
@@lkcantwell thank you Linda!
I'm in Indiana right now, and a week or so ago there were tornado warnings for our specific are, plus storms. I was a little freaked out, but my mooch docking hosts reminded me I was next to the barn. As far as Florida, I lived there off and on since '93, and went through 3 or 4 hurricanes. It's the eye of the hurricane, not tornado. LOL
We saw other RV folks take shelter in underground parking garages. When we travel we find the nearest paid parking garage that is open 24 hours and plan to go there in an emergency.
Far as when we lived in our mobile, we rented a nearby Uhaul storage unit. Got the 24 hour access. That was our safe spot to go to in the event of an emergency, it was about 7 minutes away but our only option. Since U Haul has garages, all we had to do is make it into that garage with our huge van. With a van full of people and our 23 lizards it was the quickest way to get us to safety. We would just sit in the Uhaul garage and only opted to get out into the storage area if we knew radar was indicating the weather was worsening. If we only had a few of us it would be get into the storage area immediately but its way easier to wait in garage which was built mostly into the ground before unloading us all.
So grateful we had this spot to retreat too during the 2 years we lived in our mobile.
The main thing to do is to get into a shelter with foundation. In RV parks 99 percent of the time it's the bathrooms. Neither the RV nor the truck are good options.
Hello! Yes, we didn’t have many good options here but will be finding out where to go for future outings! Thank you!
We live in Southwest MO. We moved here 9 years ago from southern CA. We bought a Class A RV, Itasca Sunova 34’ with 3 slides. We used it year round in CA and weather was never a problem! Since we moved to MO, we’ve had over $30,000.00 in weather damage! A few years ago, we were staying at Ozark Luxury RV Resort in Arkansas. We knew a thunder storm was supposed to to happen, so we put all our outdoor rugs, bbq, and chairs away. Later that night we heard a police car siren that kept going and going! I told my husband, maybe that is their tornado warning? We went outside, it was midnight. People were locking up their rv’s, getting in their vehicles and leaving. We followed suit. Luckily, the resort had a tornado shelter. As soon as we got in to the shelter, the electricity went out. When it was over, there were downed trees. A couple trees fell on rv’s. Always check the storm accommodations where you are staying! Tornado Alley is unpredictable and can happen any time of year. Glad you guys are ok!
Holy cow! What a scary situation! I’m
Glad you are ok. I’ve seen a lot of rv parks hit over this last year and we definitely need to better prepare when we start traveling again! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience💙
We live in Florida and check out campground bathrooms, club houses and laundry rooms for shelter potential in severe weather. BTW that cute little frog is a Cuban tree frog. It is an invasive species that eats our native frogs and lizards. Information can be found on University of Florida institute of food and agricultural sciences extension service. Because of threat to native species and other problems caused by these frog they recommend to humanely euthanize them.
Thank you Cheri! Good info. Appreciate you watching and sharing this.
So many variables in mobile living. That’s why, although I feel the sense of adventure, I’ll probably never do it. There’s no way to know what to expect, where, or when. Stay safe, and God bless.
Hi Sevi! It’s true! There are plenty of other ways to fulfill your sense of adventure 🤗
That weather is scary stuff - I have such weather anxiety; pretty sure I'd keel over if I heard the tornado siren. We've lots to learn if we ever get to travel outside our PNW bubble. We are so glad you're safe!! I heard an Osprey while Scott was prepping the seals on the slides 😎. Thanks for saving the froggy and lizard friends! Saying goodbye to friends makes me sad, how has it almost been a year since you left Washington? Your filming & editing is top-notch - another great video! Take care. -Jody
Hi Jody! We are getting quite used to all types of weather scenarios by now! Yes, the osprey were building a nest right there! We miss hearing them! Time flies! I sure hope we get another adventure together in the near future! Hug each other for us!
If the campground does not have a shelter you did the best thing. That RV would not keep you safe in the storm. At least you would stand a chance in your truck running from the storm. I was at a KOA in Oklahoma and the warning went off we went to the shelter and it was locked up, what a joke. After the storm passed I went to the desk and asked why in the world it was locked and was told they have to much trouble with vagrants sleeping in the shelters. LOL
Hi JL! Thank you for sharing your story! Holy cow. That’s crazy. We keep ending up at rv parks with no shelter..stay tuned 😬. Appreciate you watching and sharing your experience!
We leave in the truck if there is a bad storm and if we get enough notice and think the RV will be in danger too, we are planning on taking the RV with us since it is our home and we don't want it damaged! ~ Shion and Matthew
Hi Friends! Sounds like our plans are similar! But hoping we can avoid the severe weather as much as possible! Hope you both are doing great! Need to catch up on your videos too! Thanks for following along and safe travels!
Cement building. Eye of a hurricane. Have been in one when I was a kid.
That’s scary dad!
If we are in a campground. We head to the cement block bath house. To the inter walls.
Thank you Donita! I wish we had one of those there!
Thanks for bringing us along!
Appreciate you following us Wayne!
That picture of the bird on Christmas Day is beautiful!! I guess I’ll definitely have to worry about living in an RV and bad weather.
Thank you!!! The photo opportunities were endless there! Yes, we are learning a lot about weather and rv life 😬. Travel safe!!
Being full time - your locations will change often. Good things to note: (1) potential natural disasters in the area you are traveling; (2) emergency shelters in the area; (3) emergency plans of park, campground, etc.; (4) your personal emergency plans; (5) and, a go bag (as you will probably be leaving your RV for a safe building.). Stay aware, stay safe.
Thank you Catherine! Some great advice and tips! This will come in handy as we make our way across the country again. Appreciate you sharing!
You guys are a featured video in the Camper Report newsletter. Fantastic!
Awesome! Thank you for letting us know about that! Safe travels and thank you for watching!
What a helpless feeling with tornadoes nearby! I’m not cut out for RV life. Good luck guys!
Hello! That's exactly how we felt! Thanks for following along!!
If the campground has a bathhouse or bathrooms they are typically in a cinder block building, that would be your safest spot to be during a nader!!!!
Hello fellow RVer! Thank you for the feedback! They did have a bathhouse but not block?! Have you guys been in this scenario in your rv?
Not yet..... we are currently in kentucky mochdocking but will be headed to statesville nc to the koa for 6 months lol probably gonna get to test that out then
@@thervtravelcouple7316 travel safe! We will be spending some time in NC this year too!
Let us know when you're in the statesville/Charlotte area we should meet up!!
Scary!!! I hate wind, the bane of the RVer. Defrogging/Delizarding to dang funny!!! Glad you both are safe!!
Hey Mike! You know all to well what its like to deal with weather in an RV! Stay safe and keep in touch! We miss you!
Glad to hear you made it ok through tornado, it’s a terrible feeling knowing you might lose everything you own if the tornado was to hit in your area. Just be safe and take shelter if possible. During hurricane season in NC we always try to have an emergency bag packed with clothes medication important papers and the dogs food ready to go. Stock up with water and essentials. As always, we enjoy watching your videos and your sense of humor 🙂.
Hi Reina! Thank you for the info! We definitely need an emergency bag! Appreciate you following along and taking the time to comment! Always nice to hear from you!
Bathhouse, general store, laundry facility whatever is on site. If nothing on-site I would drive to the nearest brick and mortar building you can that is open and shelter in place there.
Thank you! Appreciate you watching and lending your advice
Lovely photograph of the heron.
It's one of our favorites Gerry! Thank you!
Please keep Safe🙏
Thank you Sandra! Doing our very best!
When I was a little girl we spent summers in Iowa with my dads family. We always had Tornado warnings at night, but never experienced one. My biggest fear was not the Tornado, but the spiders in the storm cellar!! Have a great trip, looking forward to your next adventure. Scott thanks for the tips on slide lubrication.
Hi Mona! I hadn’t thought of the spider in the cellar issue, but I can imagine that would have topped my fear list too! Thank you for following along and sharing your story!
Welcome to the south……I have a storm shelter…..I learned my lesson a few years ago we lost everything in a tornado….
I’m so sorry Nancy! Glad you have a storm shelter, I can’t imagine how that must have felt. 💙
You guys are awesome
Thank you 😊
You can go to a local motel but may have to pay full price. The motel is safer than an RV and may have a basement to go to or at least be a brick building which is more safe.
Yes! Good thought. The issue is there’s not a lot of time when they announce tornadoes, so we may need to get better at planning ahead 💙
Hey! You saw a Starlink launch! That's cool. Love the heron photo momento.
Having a tornado warning while camping would be scary! We've never had that happen to us before, but would definitely be interested to know what people do to prepare.
Hi! It was quite the unexpected surprise to see them launch right from the park! We are getting lots of good advice on tornado preparedness! Happy camping!
l love the de-frogging and de-lizarding. Hilarious!
😂 thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed our de-reptile scenes!
good video. I have found y'all on UA-cam now. looking forward to seeing you on this venue.
Thank you Connie! We are happy to have you along for the journey!!
Hi, I’ve been camping in north central Texas. I happened to be in Arlington Texas at a KOA campgrounds. A tornado watch was issued and then in the evening it was upgraded to a tornado warning. During the evening the tornado sirens when off and thankfully, the campgrounds had a tornado shelter. It was a new building housing the men’s and women’s showers. There were a lot of campers at the campgrounds and it was full inside the men’s side along with pets. The tornado missed us thank goodness but it was a very nervous time. The campgrounds office had our cell numbers so they issued the information regarding the storm shelter prior to the storm. The weather channels were excellent in their coverage of the storm system and altered you in advance to been ready to move into a space place during the storm. I hope you’ll have a safe journey home to Colorado.
Hi Will! Wow! Sounds like you had a heck of a storm come through! Thank you for sharing your story and insight! We encountered another on our way to Colorado! Yikes! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!! Stay safe out there
Except for the Florida weather it sounds like your lifestyle would be fun. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Dennis! There’s a lot of good about this lifestyle, but it’s still life with its ups and downs 😉
Was just at an FMCA Rally in TN and the folks next to me had a Mobile Suites by DRV and had issues with their Lippert levelers. He had to dig a hole to be able to drop his front levelers out to replace them!
Good to know Dale! Lippert needs to get their act together. Thank you for watching!
Tammy and Scott, I love the footage of the SpaceX launch. So far, Shelley and I have had to deal with extreme windows, lightning, and hail from a couple of severe thunderstorms when on a trip. Tornadoes would be a totally new experience. I know that most parks in Missouri, Iowa, and Kansas have Designated tornado shelters or buildings that will act like tornado shelters. We are glad that all of we're safe. Hopefully, they have finally fixed the issues with your leveling jacks. Shelley and I cannot want to see next week's video. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels -Craig & Shelley
Hi friends! It was such a bonus to see the launches right from our park! We tried to go see one up close, but they cancelled it! Yes, we've dealt with all of the above weather scenarios now and I've got to say the sustained winds scare me the most so far anyway! being in rural old florida, there wasn't much of an option for shelter, but we've learned to scope out the situation next time ahead of time!
We may be passing through your way in a few weeks, I will touch base if we do and see if our timing works out! Hug each other for us!
@@TilFurtherNotice let's know. Shelley and I Are itching to get the trailer back out there again. Even though it’s only been one week off of being on the road for us. We did Northwest Iowa last weekend for a family thing.
@@CraigNiesenPhotography I’ll keep in touch even if it’s a quick hello in our way through!
My tornado strategy is to avoid those areas of the country where they occur. Your editing of the video is getting so good. Glad your back safe in Colorado. The cost to move with the fuel prices had to hurt. We’re restricting our adventures to south western Colorado. Thanks for sharing your adventures. 😀👍
Hi Lynn! 😂 avoiding those areas is definitely one answer 😂. We thought we’d avoid the season but these days nothing is predictable. Oh yes! The fuel prices are going to hurt this year! Thank you for your feedback. It’s so appreciated! Stay safe and have fun exploring your “neck of the woods”!
We pay a lot of attention to the weather. When outside of Dallas we had to spend the night in the restroom/storm shelter, standing room only. We had to alter our trip because St Joseph, Missouri got hit by a tornado so we left Dallas and went north to Oklahoma. On our way, we went thru the path of a tornado that had hit in the last half hour and the destruction was horrendous. We spent the night in a shelter during a hurricane in Gulf Shores Alabama. We were so fortunate no damage to the RV. If you RV you just have to be smart. Always check with the campground for the shelters they provide.
Wow Paulette! You’ve certainly had your fair share of severe weather scares! Thank you for sharing your stories! We have received a lot of good advice from our community here! Are you full time RVers too? Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
Never have been close to a tornado or hurricane, have experienced 60 to 80 mph sustained winds years ago, took half our roof shingles off. Scary stuff. Years ago we had a gecko hitchhiker on our windshield wiper from Florida to Georgia. I would do Florida from November to Feb, that's it. Safe travels 😀🙏
hello! We've been in those kinds of winds too and so far, i think those are more terrifying! i love the gecko hitchhiker lol! Always, fun to see your comments pop up! Thanks for continuing to follow our journey!
Omg sticky note lolol.
😂 you gotta do what you gotta do 😉
If they have a cement block building that has hurricane tie downs on the rafters that would be probably the best. I hope the rest of your drive was safe.
Thank you! We need to make note from now on ahead of time where the safe place to is. It wasn’t our last tornado scare on our way to Colorado!
Holy moly. My heart is broken for you guys with all of the things that are broken on your NEW RV. Just terrible. As for the tornadoes, next time head directly to the bath house. I know around here that's always the storm shelter. A truck is safer than the RV but it still can get picked up and tossed by a tornado.
Big hugs to you guys. We hope and pray you made it safely to Colorado with your rig and didn't have to leave it behind. 💕
Hi friends! stay tuned, we think we got it resolved (knock on wood)
yes, the bath house was what a few friends had suggested, but it's not one of those brick reinforced ones in our old Florida rv park lol and we were worried how we and the animals would all fit! Next time we will scout out our shelter ahead of time and have a better plan.
Hope you are getting some adventures in up there! Unfortunately, we will not be making it up your way this year ( coming soon in a video) life had other plans for us! Thanks for watching and safe travels!
@@TilFurtherNotice Yes, definitely ask about shelters when checking in next time. We want you both to stick around for a very long time. ❤️
Happy to hear that you may have things figured out. We knew your plans had changed for summer and we're anxiously awaiting an update. Can't wait to see what you say in your next video!

You are right my dear!!! Divine intervention!!! God is good🙌🙌🙌🙌.

Thank you Robin! Sounds like you did what we thought we’d do during a tornado, except we couldn’t figure out where to drive. It came on so suddenly! Thank you for always taking the time to drop us a note! We look forward to them. Be safe and happy 🤗
My anxiety right now 🌪 🤯🤯 So glad you are all safe! That is super scary!!! We have been through some storms but I would pass out if I heard that tornado siren!!! 😮 Our plan would be the truck too and hope for the best 😬 Keep on moving towards Ohio 😉 It would be hard to leave great people. Ohhhh nooooo!!!! More issues! 😫😫 Take care friends ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Chuck and Cherie!!! It was crazy and not our last one on the way to Colorado 👀 route plans may be changing due to life events. 🤪. Will keep you posted! Have fun camping and stay safe!
Oh Boy, that would be scary. The frog was just too cute. And not again guys.....those jacks, unbelievable, you just had them all changed didn't you? Have you checked out those zipper sheets yet? Safe travels guys.
Hi Cindy! It was certainly scary and not our last one either! i just loved that frog! So cute! we had three of the six changed! Stay tuned! i seriously was just on amazon again, looking at those sheets and trying to convince myself they are worth the money lol!
Appreciate you and hope you are doing great!

We usually watch the weather very carefully but we usually drive to the laundry or bathroom and hang out
Yes! This one was pretty unexpected, but we are learning how unpredictable these Southern storms can be! Thank you for watching
Next time you go from FL to Colorado, (or back) you can use what i call the alternative route, (been driving semi trucks for 44 years) I-10 to Hwy 231 north to Montgomery (thru Dothan), from Montgomery, I-65 north to Birmingham, 10 miles after Birmingham take I-22 west to Memphis, in Memphis take I-40 west all the way to Amarillo, TX, in Amarillo take Hwy 87 (287) until Dumas, here by Dumas you can split 87 going NW, you come out south of CO on I-25 (some mountains) in case you go south of Denver, or keep on hwy 287 north all the way to I-70 by Limon, CO, from there I-70 west to Denver.
These just to be my alternative route, with all the traffic now a days, it have become my main route between Colorado and Florida.
I do own a Monaco Dynasty myself.
Thank you so much Luis! We totally appreciate any routing info from an experienced trucker! I think we did end up on some of those roads. I’ll have to check and will certainly keep this for next time! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to share your info!
@@TilFurtherNotice I live in New Mexico and travel to Colorado every so often. I've found it is much easier, with less traffic, to take the US roads and avoid the Interstates when possible. Besides, you see a lot more beautiful country since your pace is almost always a bit slower.
Go to the nearest fire station. Chances are that is where the siren is located.
Thank you Jim!
Dave loves frogs! Their legs are delicious, but I can't eat them too often because they make me jumpy!
More hydraulic leveler problems - that sucks!!☹
😂 So funny! I myself have not tried frog legs and after our little hitchhiker, i'm not sure I could bring myself to eat one. Appreciate you both tagging along!!!

Go to the bathroom build should be a shelter
Thank you Michelle!
Haha I love frogs too! I would have to save him too. It’s so scary when bad weather hits. There was no shelter when we were stuck in Arkansas. They said to go to the bathrooms- didn’t give me much comfort. Luckily it didn’t hit. We got one of those automatic warnings for a wildfire when we were in California, and I completely understand when Scott said it’s really scary when that happens. I’m so glad you are ok! I wish we had good plans for a tornado but we don’t. Our lose plans are similar to yours, get in the truck and find a safe place to shelter. Smart that you got ahead of things! We left northern Montana early to avoid a snowstorm but then south there was massive flooding. Smart that you keep track of your costs in RV Wizard. It’s so hard leaving friends behind…and making the bed! 🤣. Omg the jacks again!! Uggg
Hi Friends! I’m glad you feel my love for frogs 🐸 🤗. Especially those tree frogs, so darn cute! I bet the boys would have found them interesting 😂. Hi Gary! Sounds like you’ll be making the same trek! The rv park is a privately owned situation where individuals own the lots called lazy days. It’s long term to rent and you just have to keep an eye out on Facebook etc to see if anyone has a spot. It was beautiful! Travel safe!!

Our under bed storage would definitely not fit any human larger than a toddler 😉
How close to Brick and Morter store?

Are overpasses a safe place to be under in your truck when a tornado is coming?
Hi Kathleen! I’ve heard mixed reviews on that one!
Next, time there's a, Tornado warning go, to a storm shelter !!
Yep, if there was one.
Get to a building, a truck would be just as bad as the RV.
Thank you Terry! We have much to learn
I've heard people say "eye of the tornado" but that's not a thing... If it's a hurricane or a storm WITH an eye, then yes, but not tornadoes. For a tornado, my grandfather always said "calm before the nightmare" (Not calm before the storm, because the storm is already there, but calm before the nightmare because he told me how his heart shot into his throat in '85 when he heard his daughter, my mom, and her family were hit dead-on by a tornado without much warning; Pennsylvania in 1985 an outbreak of tornadoes happened and it got UGLY, I wasn't born until 1994, but if they had been a few minutes later... I wouldn't have been born). The "hook" in a storm is the one thing you should keep track of, because that is where a much higher chance of a tornado will be.
Glad you guys are alright after that, even if what I comment is months late.
Hi! Yes, Scott was really giving me a hard time about calling it the eye of storm lol. Appreciate you sharing your experience! Thank you and take good care
Hey guys! Tornadoes in an RV would not be fun, but finding froggies would make my girls so happy! Did you get hit with snow in Colorado?

😂 love those little frogs
Couldn't drive in the other direction?
We were very remote and rural and it came on suddenly so didn’t have time.
Go to the bathrooms

I live in Texas and all I can do is hide in my bathroom

Its not fun being in an RV during a major storm.

Couple thoughts on tornados from someone who has lived in tornado territory his whole life. 1) When you arrive at a location find the place you will go in a storm. In campgrounds this is normally a cement block bathhouse. Add this to your arrival checklist. 2) Consider putting together a Go Bag that can help you survive for a couple days in a SHTF scenario (no, I’m not a prepper). Hi David! You win most thoroughly written comment award! Amazing! Thank you so very much! We figured out the first one but hadn’t even thought of a go bag as we normally have our house with us, but I’m definitely doing that now! Thank you much for watching and taking so much time to share your experience and advice with us!
@@TilFurtherNotice cut and paste from Apple Notes is your friend. :) I didn’t have an inventory for quite some time and would often wonder if I had xxxx in it so found a round tuit and got er done.
@@davide8629 awesome! Well you still win 😉. Thank you!
Also add identity paperwork that will be a pain to replace. (Like birth certificate, ss card, passport)
This is THE best advice for any RVer at every Stop!
