    We were in West Palm Beach area in a county Park. We were given less than 24hrs to evacuate the park. For us it meant to head back to Dallas. Stops in Tallahassee, Mobile, and Natchitosis were our campground areas. Turned out if we headed to the Keys we could have gone back to the West Palm area. One thing for sure is to remain flexible when traveling with an RV

      Thanks for watching! You called it - stay flexible when RV'ing. We were bummed that we couldn't get into Anastasia State Park but that turned out to be a stroke of luck as they evacuated it.

    Yellow slicker really hammers home the story! Glad you guys made it through. Also good to hear Sun Outdoors were so flexible. Outstanding!

      @@LuvSubbin yeah we had several tornado watch/warnings in our area following Nicole. We use our NOAA radio and several apps to keep up with the ever changing weather conditions.

      @@LuvSubbin y’all brought out some good points like what we call in the hiking world “widow makers” (the tree branches that fall). I saw Lauren and Daniel had a huge tree branch fall in their site and narrowly missed their rig not long ago. I try to look at that in my sites. Safe travels

    Congrats on your getting thru the storm. We weren’t as lucky with Ian on Ft. Myers Beach. We lost our home and cars and pretty much everything! But that was a full fledged Category 4 Hurricane that flooded our little island with 18’ of storm surge! A sudden change in direction placed us in the direct path of this devil! I’m glad you emphasized that you would have evacuated if it was more then a Tropical Storm! Good advice! GO! 🤙

      Thanks for watching and we're certainly sorry about the loss of your home and cars. Mother Nature is certainly something to be reckoned with and we're glad Nicole was very minor for the St Augustine area.

    Enjoyed your vido. Next time I will remember the get more wine.
    Unfortunately in our travels, we have had to deal with four hurricanes and one tornado. In Vermont, we rarely have tornado warnings, so that warning when we were in Arkansas was the most stressful. Luckily, I had read up a bit the day before, so we were somewhat ready for the 4 AM alert.
    Hurricanes give you enough warning. My suggestion from our experiences is to heed the warning and leave the area. You might do fine, but it's the aftermath that may strand you for a while with no fuel, food, electrical power, and closed roads.
    With Joquin, we stayed put in inland Pennsylvania at elevation and not near a river waiting to see what he would do. He went out to sea.
    With Michael, a tropical storm in Virginia, but a Class 4/5 in Florida, we were on the road in the late afternoon. The backroads quickly filled with water, which we went through! Not a good idea. We should have bailed about an hour before we finally did, only 15 miles from our destination.
    Dorian came ashore as a Category 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We were in Cape Breton. The provincial parks and national parks were closed and we were left to fend for ourselves in an unfamilar area. We did not have enough time to leave Nova Scotia, long story. As soon as we knew they were closing, we found a small cottage that took us, the dogs and the trailer. The trailer was parked between two buildings, with a hill behind us, far enough away that trees would not fall on the trailer. We were 150 miles away from landfall, so the wind and rain was not too bad. We were able to continue our trip in Cape Breton, but southwest of us some areas had extensive damage and no electricity for a week. This is when we had the ah ha - if you can, you want to leave, because of the aftermath of a hurricane.
    Once again this fall we were in Nova Scotia when Fiona, a Class 3 hurricane, came ashore right where we rode out Dorian. But this time we were in southwestern Nova Scotia, fairly close to New Brunswick. They were calling for gale force winds in the area. We packed it up and headed to the New Brunswick/Maine border. The forecast was still calling for gale force wind all the way inland to Bangor Maine. Our concern was having tree branches coming down on the trailer. The next day we left New Brunswick and landed in Skowhegan, Maine, while Fiona ravaged parts of Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland. The parks we were to stay at in far away southwest Nova Scotia were closed for most of the week because of the lack of electricity. We made the right choice and headed home a week early to find an oil leak in our basement!

      Thanks Nancy for sharing your stories. The only other tropical storm we've had to deal with was, I think, David while we were at Bar Harbor. We recall sitting in the Thirsty Whale listening to the lobsterman and sailors speaking of how they were going to secure their boats. We hitched up the next day in some crazy wind and rain... And yes, we had enough wine!

    I went through Nicole on my way to the Keys. BTW they leave the gate open in case the power fails. Good video

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching! I'm not sure about the gate theory... If I were the engineer designing it, I would have a power loss as a spring activated "auto open" event rather than a "stay closed". This is in case of an unexpected power loss like a car smashing into a power pole or a mylar balloon shorting out the grid.

    We rode out Nicole at Traveler's Rest near Dade City. It was very windy here, shoke the entire Airstream several times, but only a Tropical Storm. I wouldn't want to be here for a full blown hurricane.
