AND the needs of all OTHER Australians as well. Let's not forget this is a Caucasian-founded country, and it was mostly Caucasians who settled and progressed it - they are as much Australian as the aboriginals are! If this militant communist group had their way we'd be all carrying spears, painting our faces and living in bark huts in the outback, and of course paying 'rent' to the like of Pearson, Langdon and Mayo. That is, it would take us back BEYOND colonisation to tribal existence! It's sheer INSANITY! Time for some RESPECT and common sense to return, Australia. This sickening, pathetic 'revenge agenda' has to END.

Plus another 39.5 billion. Divide that by Aboriginal people (there's plenty of fakers, but many genuine ones don't do census - so it balances out)... and that's over $40,000 per person per year. Plus any Centrelink they get. So a total over $50K, still many live in tin shacks! They would have had "better outcomes" by declaring every land council a criminal organization, seizing their assets (land) and "proceeds of crime", and giving $40K PA to every Aborigine!

    • @pamelakinnane1863

The aboriginal communities are allocated $38 Billion per year. They're obviously not receiving this yearly allocation. What we need is an audit on where $38 Billion is going every year.

Having a government sponsored and supported pressure/lobby group that is racially composed is NOT acceptable. If a racial or any other group wants to lobby for change, then fine, but not with government control and support. While I don't really think that "common sense" is all that common, it sure was this time. The vote was against a form of apartheid and for equality, and so it should have been. I'm just sad that it all became a partisan political football and not about conscience and fairness.😢

Not a fault of Australians but the fault of the Aboriginal industry and the army of people of mixed heritage whom by their own admission failed to provide for these Tribesmen. Disgraceful.

Well all I can say is that my daughter is a teacher who is not woke and told me plaenty about the ideological indoctrination that she had to fight against to earn her degrees. She had worked in a few jobs, for a number of years before going to Uni to become a teacher and she often bemoaned the fact that nearly all her contemporaries were there straight out of school and most of them were too overawed by their Professors to offer even mild push-back to the garbage they were being presented with. My girl was always outspoken amd unafraid of calling out teachers she didn't think were in the right, even when she was in High School, so I wasn’t too worried that she might be cowed into compliance, but I was gratified to see her hold her own against attempts to coerce her into adopting ideological nonsense. Some teachers can think for themselves, but sadly, in my experience, not enough of them.

Time for the aboriginals to stop this 200+ year complaining about colonialism……time for the aboriginal Australians to understand that there is no land on earth that was not conquered by a stronger nation and in many cases that happened many times…..but they got over it and moved on….time for everyone to understand “we are Australians “ not Aboriginals, Chinese , Europeans…etc we have different cultures and backgrounds but we are all Australians…..

Agree. The product was divisive and gave a political privilege to one group of Australians over others. Despite the ongoing plight of some indigenous communities, a fair and colour blind country can't be organised as such. The problem with the proposal was essentially that the PM did not provide any detail. A lot of Australians saw it as a sneaky way to establish a body to for the treaty process to take place with. The fact being that the PM did not do not do enough to alleviate this belief. If you want to know where the turning point was for most of the country - I would point to Ben Fordham interview. That's where the vote was lost and the PMs poor performance (and incompetence) was on full display.
