I started collecting cacti and succulents earlier this year and your videos, along with other channels such as Cactus Quest, have helped so much on improving my care for them. I appreciate the informative videos Ana! 🌵
Another awesome and informative video, Ana 😊 Removing offsets is definitely one of the fastest ways, some of them produce pups very quickly and grow from the mother plant pretty quickly as well. Good to see the golden barrel you hot-nailed is doing well, I’d leave that as clump, too 😊 Thank you for sharing with us as always. Have a wonderful day and weekend from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜☕️
Yes, that hot nailed golden barrel is growing steadily. Might have grown faster if I moved it to a bigger pot. I have 2 other golden barrels with no babies so I’m definitely keeping this one as a clump. 😉
Well done, Ana! Loved all the info you’ve compiled. Concise and practical. Good to see the hot-nailed Gb is doing well. Thanks for sharing with us. ❤️🌼🌺🌸🌵💚
WOW Ana, this is a really BRILLIANT video on Propagating Cactus :-D and excellent and very informative information on the different ways to propagate them, and the hot nailing method is incredible and your Golden Barrel is growing amazing, tanks so much for sharing this fantastic video, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and CACTUS POWER to Las Vegas for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX
I’d have to say my favorite method is growing from seeds because I just love watching the steps of growing .The method I typically use is from pups for sure, that I can remember I’ve never lost one from propagating pups.Love the video Ana!!!
Enjoyed all the information and the video!😁 It was great to see that hot nailed barrel cactus looking happy again, time flies... bless it, I would too, leave it as a clump I wouldn't have the heart to disturb it again 😊 I'm looking forward to doing some grafting next year, taking my Gymnocalycium variegated pups off my moon cactus! 👍🏻🌵🏜🌞
So true about the hot nailed one. Plus I have 2 other solitary golden barrels so a clump would be good for variety. 😉 Good luck with grafting! It is not as hard as I thought it would be. I’ve had some failures but the successes still outnumbers them. 😉
Seeds are the cheapest and the best way. You can easily triple your collection in no time if you pollinate manually. With that method, you can even grow your collection with hybrids that only you will have.
Great video Ana!!! Cactus are so great for the different ways you can propagate them!! I still can't bring myself to hot nail or core a cactus. Makes me cringe just to think about it!!!😳 Although I have a couple of multi headed cactus that may have been created that way🤔 Thanks for sharing this great video Ana!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a wonderful evening!!! Peace,Love,Plants✌💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌲💐🌳🌺🌿🌻🍀🌹😀👍
This video is quite interesting Ana ! It gave me a lot of tips on how to deal with cactus 🌵 problems so next time I will know how to deal the situation. Thank you so much for posting this video! My cacti is only 1 day old. I bet some of your cactus is about 2 to3 years old. See you soon Ana!
Cacti for everyone! I love sharing my propagations with others. Thanks for creating this informative video for us Ana and I hope you are having a cactastic weekend.🌵🪴🌞
Very informative!! Thank you :) I still have a question: How do you know when you can water the propagated pups like normal cacti? I hope this question makes sense. Thanks in advance 🙏🙏
When they have rooted. Give them a slight tug, if there is resistance, then you know they formed roots. They can now take in more water through their roots. 😉
Another version of growing from cuttings is to order cuttings online or if a friend gifts you cuttings (or Pups) from his/her plants. This is an excellent way of getting varieties or species that you didn't have before. A nice thing about getting cuttings through the mail is that while they have been going through the mail, the cut ends have been heeling, so you can place them in soil as soon as they arrive. Seeds is also a good way of getting new plants, but remember that cacti and most succulents are very slow growing, so you have to be ready to wait several years for your plants to mature. It just so happens that I had sterilized several pots of soil for planting some seeds today. I ordered Ferocactus chrysacanthus, Gymnocalycium horridispinum, and Echinocereus dasyacanthus. I am also planting Some old seeds of Dianthus gratianopolis (cheddar pinks). I had them in my outdoor garden many years ago, and I'd like to know if they will grow and bloom under lights indoors. Thank the lord for the internet. Back when I started growing cacti from seeds in the seventies, you could buy mixtures of seeds from catalogs and there was a place in England that had seeds of separate species for sale. Now, with a little searching, you can find almost anything with one caveat. Sometimes you order something and you end up with anything. several years ago, I ordered a packet of Browningia hertlingeana, Which grew well, but wasn't Browningia, so now I have a couple beautiful columnar cacti with with golden spines and hair that I have no idea of what they are.
That is funny about the seeds turning out to be something else. 😄 But I’m sure it happens a lot now as cactus and succulents are gaining popularity worldwide. That is awesome that you started sowing seeds in the 70’s! And the passion is still with you up to now. Your collection must be spectacular. 😃🌵🌵🌵🎖🏅👍🏼
@@CactusCaffeine Sadly, no. There have been several occasions when I was forced to move into efficiency apartments and had to give all my plants away and start over with only one or two. I don't mind because those I gave away made a lot of people happy. Also, I have limited space, so I only keep one or two of those I grow when they reach the two inch pot size. The rest I give away.
hooo myy godd, when he drilled a whole in that cactus 🤕 my heart broke. Nothing for me. The hot needle is a softer way. I will keep it with the first method if i ever get pups ofcourse. Thanks for this video, again plenty of information 🤩
I love your videos and have subscribed. I wonder about my Monkey Tail cactus it is now hanging over and its top is hitting the dirt. Can I propagate this plant by cutting a chunk off and letting it scab then planting? As you have done in your videos or will that kill this particular plant.?
I cringed when you held a pup in your bare hand 😬😬😬 Hey Ana....is there any kinda advice on gloves for handling cactus??? I love cactus so much....such a beautiful plant
The information on the internet about watering cacti and succulents on a schedule is completely wrong. It is true that in the autumn and winter these plants go dormant so it is a good idea not to water them. However in the spring and summer the recommendation of watering them once a month or once every 6 weeks can chill these plants from overwatering. It has definitely happened to me. Especially the fuzzier cacti

I know. The last ones are unconventional. I haven’t had the nerve to do it all by myself either. 😳 But I’ve seen many growers in California doing it lately because multi-headed ones sell at a greater price. Also a faster way have more pups to sell. The industry is evolving, I guess. 🙂

Hi ms ana❤️❤️
Hello! 😃🌵☕️
I followed the same procedure as you said in your video but no germination. Don't know why. Advice please
What fertilizer do you apply?
I get so scared. I have pads that seem like they are drying rather than rooting. Would there be a reason for this?
did you administer anesthesia before drilling that poor cactus?
I have a question about gymnocalycium seeds are different types do they have different sizes seeds
Yes, they have different sizes, and color as well. 😉
Thanks for that again I purchased some seeds and thought that they may not have been as they were very small
Да методов размножения вы показали множество,но я выращиваю из семян.
That’s awesome. Growing cactus from seeds is not the easiest. 😃
@@CactusCaffeine Согласен у меня есть небольшой опыт.
