Regarding forcing employees to pay for damages or theft of gas, in B.C. we have Grant's law which forced customers to prepay for fuel. Most gas stations installed pumps that allow you to pay there. Grant De Patie was a gas station attendent who tried to stop a motorist from driving off without paying and was dragged to his death.

Same here in Australia in regards to such. The company cant force a worker to pay. The number of smaller independents that made workers pay was ridiculous and one time I happened to be in such a business buying a drink when a driveoff occurred. The manager/owner, dont know which he was, immediately came out of the back room while the worker was serving another customer and just stood there death glaring the worker, which visible made that customer uneased and quickly had them paying for their fuel and leave. Then, not seeming to notice me there, went up and told the worker he was paying for that fuel that was stolen. I immediately spoke up and asked "What, you expected him to run out and jump in front of them to stop them driving off? No, he isnt paying, he cant be forced, and if you do I will be calling the police because what you are trying to do is illegal." The guy turned and said "Well he should have gotten payment first." The worker was pulling their wallet out and I said to him "He cant force you to pay for it, nor can he take it out of your wages, nor can he threaten to fire you if you dont pay it." The guy then threatened to call cops if I didnt leave and since I had zero better to do that day I simply told him to do so. Lets just say the dumbass did so, and when the cops arrived I told them exactly what took place and when they asked the worker what happened the guy butted in and just said he wanted me to be removed from the premises, not even giving the worker the chance to speak. Cops werent fooled and asked the worker to step out, the guy tried following, was stopped by the cop, and then ended up in handcuffs when he went to push the cop aside. The worker then spilled the beans that he was always forced to pay for drive offs by the guy,

It's the same in Ontario, Manglement can't take a Server's Tips, can't force Employee's to pay for damaged material or to balance the Till if it's out (Dine and Dash, Pump and Run or even just a simple mistake made when Making Change for example)...basically, if the Company loses money for ANY reason other than actual Theft on the part of the Employee, the Company can't force the Employee to pay for the loss...

Quiet Time Story: Assuming this happened in Canada or the USA, it's even worse Rob because the Dorm is allowing noise past the time the City requires Quiet Time to start...and that's not something they're allowed to do...they can NOT Mandate or Enforce Quiet Times that contradict Municipal Code or State Law...

Story 3: Some Pizza delivery drivers have tried to tell me in the past that they have to pay for the full pizza order if they exceed the time guarantee on that order. I've looked it up; those drivers are either lying or they've been lied to, because if the restaurant did that to them, then what they've done is considered illegal.

The it one! I built a pc for my sister charged he £250 for a brand new p4 core 2 duo pc with windows xp! They got a virus after falling for the servos call scam and told all their friends I ripped them off with a pc that didn’t work! That’s like buying a car filling it with the wring fuel then blameing the person you bought it off when it don’t work!

I remember one time a long, Long, LONG time ago when I was working Co-Op at a Cast Iron Machine Shop and the Senior Shift Manager for whatever reason absolutely HATED me with a truly Unholy Passion and he bullied the rest of the Workers to join in on his efforts to make my time there as miserable as they possibly could without actually causing physical harm (so I couldn't call in OSHA or the Ministry of Labor for example) and because everyone was in on it, going to HR was useless, they all just made sure their story was the same and it became my word against theirs (this was in the mid '90's before Cell Phones existed so no easy way to record the Harassment for HR) so I used an unfortunate reaction I have to a particular food against them...
If I eat cooked red, green or yellow bell peppers then about an hour later, I become a walking violation of the Geneva Convention against Chemical/Gas Warfare...so one day about 3 months after he decided to make my Life HELL, I made a rather LARGE sandwich for lunch that had nearly a complete green pepper in it...cooked of course...
A little under an hour later, a felt the warning cramp of my guts preparing to go off like Mount St. Helens did in 1980...5 minutes after that, came the final warning growling gurgle heard by everyone within 5 feet of me and then 30 seconds later erupted a blast so long and so loud, Fred Flintstone Clocked out of work and went home...
And then the stench hit...oh dear GOD in HELL did the STENCH hit...imagine if you can, the reek of 100 bodies decomposing in the New Orleans heat mixed with the Unholy Aroma of a 1,000 Pissed Off Skunks that gorged on a ton of rotten eggs liberally marinated in 5 tons of rotten potatoes mashed with spoiled milk...
That would be a roll in Rose Leaves compared to what emerged from my body that day...half the people puked the moment the STENCH wafted near them and EVERYONE ran like their lives depended on leaving the Country in 10 seconds or less...
I just smiled as I walked out of the building and calmly told the Manager "This is my way of saying, I don't like Bullies. If it happens again, this will seem like a fond memory compared to what I'll do next." and walked away because I could feel Round 2 getting ready to fly and I'd already made my point so I wasn't quite ready to risk killing them with another blast of Old Fartfull...at least not this time...Everyone panicked and ran when the next Trumpet of DOOM erupted a minute later, but by then, not only was I down wind of them, I was also far enough away that I only risked killing the local Squirrels (when the STENCH stunned them and they fall out of the trees)...
And my guts have only grown less tolerant of cooked bell peppers over the last few Decades which means it takes less cooked pepper to recreate that faitful, horrid PTSD inducing day...
    😄😄😄😅😂🤣

Back during the pandemic one of my jobs was to screen employees at 6 in the morning. I'm already a morning person so I was bubbly and did the same as the op and would banter and joke with the other employees. One guy always came in around that time and I always gave him a cheerful "good morning!" One day I guess he'd had enough and said "why are you always so happy in the morning?!" I simply responded " because I see no need to be grumpy and rude in the morning." The next day he came in he got the RBF and a Kurt but polite "have a nice day" then as he was walking away and the next person walked up and I went full cheerful again and into morning banter and that grumpy guy actually turned around and stared for a second before walking off. He was much nicer after that.

Best computer client I ever had I told one thing when they bought their computer "Work it, break it, right down questions." They never broke it and ended up needing very little help. This was a retired couple and they did actually use the computer.

Rob's comment on the last one reminded me of my school days a thousand years ago and all the SBD's that were unleashed over the course of a day.
Silent But Deadly for those folks who are unfamiliar with the acronym.

Story 3: Attempting to withhold an employees wages...no matter the reason...is illegal...the employee can press criminal charges in addition to filing a civil suit.
Story 5: Amanda's desk definitely would have gotten "crop dusted" with an SBD in the near future too :)

You "a notch up" approach to people is one of my fav tactics. Especially as some regulars rise to the occasion or even just appreciate the sensitivity to their energy levels.

16:45: Honestly, if it were me, I'd respond in kind, yelling, "WELL YOU'VE ALREAYD DONE THE FIRST STEP. ONE QUESTION THOUGH: WHY ARE WE YELLING?" I'd imagine there would be a moment of stunned silence, and those who mean it as a joke would probably crack up laughing at that, while the true assholes would respond with belligerence, and thus get themselves locked out of service anyway :'D

What you do for the fart one is find a person you know that uses colognes regularly, then ask if they can give you their least favorite and explain the following.
Whenever you go in to pee, if you have to fart, let it go super hard. Then, before you turn off the faucet, blast 10-12 sprays in front of the door, quickly pocket the cologne, turn off the faucet, and leave.
If she questions the smell, only apologize that she can smell it and don't elaborate.

I am more curios why they are even able to hear? that might be a issue on the office lay-out. Like maybe add some sound insulation to said toilet that might help.
I mean I can understand that it might be a bit uneasy. the more if it's also at the front desk where people walk in on.

S 1 OP should have developed a "read the room" routine by now, dealing with other dosgy clients. This one reads like pure Kryptonite
OP is another one who fell in love with his job. Without caring about hours spent, trouble taken and income.
Did OP even take any advance?

Insomnia sucks, but it doesn't entitle you to force those around you to live by your schedule. OP should have either had a single, moved out to an apartment (alone), or just coped.

He asked politely. They didn't like that and went to the guy in charge who enforced rules. So OP just followed the rules. If OP can't sleep at night when they want to, then the roommates can't sleep in the day when THEY want to. An eye for an eye. Don't dish out what you can't take
Its called being a decent human being to allow people you live with to sleep when they need to
