Oh Adam, I thought our son was gonna be a total athlete, his mom and dad were stars in high school. No. He hates sports, he’s so not athletic, he’s a total nerd, but our daughter, she’s our athlete! My husband finally gets to go to games and yell and scream, lol it all worked out.
same ! I am an avid hooper and weight lifter...my son not so much. My daughter lifts and hoops tho !
I'm curious, is your son's blood type, type B other than O?
I learned in my 20s that my Dad felt like he failed my brother and I because we played some sports but both ended up quitting sports because we preferred academics (like I quit basketball to focus on AP Biology). I had a nice adult convo with him that there's no failure at all! We just like different things. I do like to watch sports though and I did inherit my Dad's bad habit of yelling at the TV when watching football. xD
I was just like your son and now I love yoga, lifting weights and used to do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 7 times a week. Didn’t really get into anything until I was in my mid 20s. My dad had multiple football records and lettered in 3 sports. My mom was a high school track star.
Adam I think this is a great single topic to discuss on the show cuz it is very frustrating for women when men do barely anything and drop weight quickly.
I spent decades training like a body builder, and circuits, all “cardio with weights”. Now I see wayyy more gains when I train for strength. I love putting more weight on the bar. It also transformed my physique so fast. I’ll take a break from this style, but always love my strength/ powerlifting phases.
It is refreshing to listen to a fitness pod cast that isn’t ran by tool bags. Realistic advice for real world applications. Keep it up and I’ll keep listening. Thanks fellas!
I seriously commend this group for truly getting into the shoes of this GLP-1 debate instead of only seeing it from the outside. To hear the whole crew is testing it out just to have a personal opinion on it is 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 this is not an easy space and there is so much debate and back and forth. Seriously love you guys
Mind pump has replaced four other podcasts for me! I just cannot get enough of the knowledge you guys provide and I so wish I had found you sooner!
As a woman, this is quite easy to incorporate. Estrogen phase - focus on strength. Luteal phase - slow it down and focus on the muscle. That’s what I do. 😏
You’ve completely changed by perspective on exercise! I’m currently trying to repair my metabolism. As a former athlete I’ve had a hard time fluctuating weight after college. I would love one of your programs to keep me going !
Completely agree.
Very interesting idea, the "Powerlifting competition" to a local gym. It might also introduce strength training to more people, I'll suggest this to the gym I'm working out!
15:52 My 8 year old has a 55mph fastball and is very intuitive with baseball, wanting to play around at catcher. The most terrifying thing as a mom is seeing him in the backyard with my oldest who is 12, throwing 65-70. Thank god for catchers gear 😂😅
this makes coaching a 10U baseball team SO challenging. Some kids are brand new at this age and i maintain if someone is going to play baseball, a kids nervous system has to learn it intuitively. If not, you have some big 10-11 year olds throwing 65+ mph, and brand new kids at the same age, too scared to swing the bat. Get your sons into baseball!!! I thought it was boring until my then 5 and 9 year olds fell in love with it, and now it’s a beautiful part of our lives. ❤
I'm happy listening to the different types of training and how both can be beneficial. And I can't wait for an episode talking about the differences in men and women's journeys in fat loss and muscle gain!
This has to be one of the best episodes! You guys managed to cover so many good principles and then the conversation got into so many areas I could relate to. This is why I love Mind Pump so much! Thank you for all that you guys do. Better every day! Keep it up!
Absolute gems in this podcast. Thanks guys as always. I bought Anabolic start of the year. Brilliant Programme
Love your guys’ content!! So informative.
I've been listening to you guys since 2021 and you are the reason why I started going to the gym. Im so thankful for your content. It helped me a lot with healing my disordered eating patterns and general character developement. So thank you for everything you put out there:)
Thanks for all the advice guys!
My new favorite channel I subscribe to! I couldn’t imagine getting hit by a 95 mph ball 😅
This was a great episode, thanks again guys
Love y'all's talks!! I am new to training and listening to you guys has really helped me understand the process.
I just finished that course! It was in depth!!!

Love all your content. New listener and sharing all your stuff with family. Love it. Thanks so much. Learning a lot.
I started watching you guys after my 30 yr old daughter mentioned your podcast. Great fitness info and I love how you talk about your kiddos! I’d love to try Maps Anabolic!!! 😊
Glad I found this show it’s easy to listen to with a lot of info and th time goes by fast
Hello Mind pump
Just can’t get enough of listening your podcast and learning bit by bit
Starting strength training in my late 30s’ due to health issues and love my body definition plus strength. 53 now probably stronger than anyone else. Love showing off my muscles lol ❤
Love listening to you guys. Hoping to put your advice to use this year and get into better shape
OMG you guys I'm so excited for the Live Event in Vegas!!!
I truly enjoy listening to your podcast while I’m driving or out walking. I’m learning a lot!
Love listening to you, guys, while cooking breakfast and during my lunch break
This is super interesting. I've been wondering which way to go because I'm starting out in my journey. Also, I would love anabolic because I feel like I would really benefit from a plan. Thank you so much!
Adam…Your laugh at 30:11 kills me! 😂 I had to rewind it to enjoy a few times. Hopefully others enjoyed as well. Terrific content guys. Cutting through the bs in the industry is great and mixing in all the additional topics keeps the content so refreshing.
10:12 I'm a new listener and already learned so much. Ty.
I have been watching / listening to you guys for several years. I am always telling my boyfriend about the newest thing I learned from your latest episode. I finally made my boyfriend watch an episode and now he is hooked!
Thank you for the talk about lifting as a tall gal. I always feel as if I'm doing something wrong because I can't throw out 10 pull ups, or hit this magic weight on squats, and i do try realy hard. I'm all legs and arms, so thanks for validating my "long way to go" theory for us long folks.
Love the podcast keep it up!
Love the podcast. Give me the MAPS anabolic! But for real love you guys, I listen all the time. It's super helpful with learning how to train other people especially.
Great episode
Love the show. Have you given much thought about making a 15-20 minute a day performance workout? I have the 15 minute workout, and it fits my lifestyle perfectly. I think a 20 minute performance would work really well for alot of people.
You guys always make my evening wind down more entertaining and full of learning. Thank you, for everything! You guys rock!! 🤘🏻
@chedengg Winner! Please email: ann@mindpumpmedia.com with a screenshot of your youtube username, winning episode number, and the email address you would like the program under and we will get you hooked up!
@@MindPumpShow OMG BEST DAY EVER!! 🥹
Great show guys ❤️🧠💪🏼
My 7 year old daughter is playing a lot of different sports. Gymnastics, soccer, basketball, bowling and even dance. Whatever is in season. I built up a lot of muscle when I was younger doing gymnastics. I think it has helped keep me strong. I am also a meat eater!
I think the baseball story you mentioned was the inspo for the movie "The Rookie"
That last dude is living the dream. To look like that and be able to eat whatever he wants. That's incredible. Why stress over tracking? If he reeeeally wants to get bigger, then I get that. But damn. I'd say just keep doing what you're doing.
You all are wizards ! This episode came out at the best time!
As I am re-analyzing my workout routine.
What I have done the past two weeks is: doing the big 5 lifts
4 days a week, with slow controlled moderate weight for 3 of the days and on the 4th I go heavy.
Based on this episode it seems that would be optimal to build a solid foundation ?
I think there’s a happy middle ground in which you do movements and technique that bias a muscle, but still knowing you have to progressively overload that exercise (aka get stronger) in order actually see gains in that target muscle
If MindPump wants to sponsor my fitness journey I wouldn’t be opposed to it 😅😉
Funny this episode came up, because I JUST switched to a new program yesterday and my big change was tempo, doing the 4/2/2 timing.
Subscribed and notifications are on!!! I would love to win this and try yalls program. I love listening to Yall everyday!!! Been listening to old old UA-cams and catching up on allll your stuff. I am currently using Ladder app and Coach is Kelly Matthews - love her! But I am curious on trying your plan. So good luck to me hopefully I get a chance
Thank you for all the info yall give it’s really helpful!!
Sal needs to read up on Nolan Ryan and his book, the pitchers Bible. Played for like 20 years and threw a 95 mph fastball towards the end of his career and pitched every 3-4 days
I love switching between both
Would you recommend a powerlifting routine to a healthy 37 year old man with no history of injuries? Or would it be too hard on the joints at this stage of life?
Strong body strong mind! Let's gooooo!
Wish there was a magic shot to keep from freaking out when scale doesn't move!
Seeing how much value there is in a coach … and proper technique etc - how can the average person vet a potential coach? Questions to ask?
Do guys have a list of supplements we should use. In a couple of shows ago. You guys talk about were nitric oxide supplement and I'm looking into find what it is.
Thanks to your messaging, I've finally embraced a reverse diet (up 400 calories and finally to 2000/day) while doing Aesthetic. I'm about to switch over to MAPS HIIT and align that with 4 weeks of maintenance. I hope to do a cut after that... what would be the best programming at that point? I don't have gym access and workout at home with a few dumbells, a barbell, bands and a pull up bar. I also own Anywhere and Bands. Would a bodyweight/ calisthenics style program make sense during a cut? Thanks!!
Can you tell me how to get a GLP1? Every site I go on tells me I don’t qualify for it bc my BMI is 25-26. I don’t need to lose a lot of weight but due to my age (57) and hormones which I now have optimized, I just cannot get it off. I am doing everything you guys talk about. Workouts (MAPS aesthetic) right now, diet on point. Protein intake 1gm/lb of ideal body weight. My mind is healthy. Would really just like to try it and have not been able to get it online.
Layne Norton has a physique coaching academy with Bill Campbell
Hey guys ! Can you guys give some information on how to lose weight & build muscle as a night shift worker thanks.
Nuleaf naturals is the best cbd ! Also tested for glyphosate 👍
Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things an athlete has to do. Just think about it, if you succeed 33% of the time, you're a guaranteed all-star elite level hitter.
Oh I just heard Sal say that lol. I love baseball. It's a game for people who love nerdy statistics, I honestly think Sal would enjoy it if you ever got into sports
Here’s the thing too, you can’t be dumb and be great at baseball. The two can’t exist together. The perception of the eye, processing speeds and intuition is just so incredible. Ive been living it as the mom for 4 years and still have a shaky understanding of it. I love kids playing it for fun (I’ll scrimmage my kids too but it’s not pretty lol)- but one of my kids is highly talented, and he’s on a travel team that’s basically mini-jock geniuses. Playful, wonderful, respectful group of young boys that synchronize like an MLB team on the field, but the most amazing thing is that 8 out of 10 are mathletes 😂😂😂
Where are you all getting the GLP 1 from?
40:55 can you or should you sustain that forever, though?
Because if you go back to the old ways inflammation, psoriasis etc. will come back. So maybe rather go for learning what to eat for full nutrition that still provides you with desired results?
As a wrestler I was always told that wrestling kids the oldest sport. I’m not sure how true that is but we’ve always had combat and we’ve always had our bodies
I’m a 68 year old trainer. I heard you say we get weaker…. My upper body especially has gotten weaker 😢
I’m trying to break a plateau. I’m weaker and I’ve also gained weight without eating more. Any suggestions? Currently doing Maps Aesthetic.
I must be an outlier. Have been taking 0.5 ozempic since January for my heart and diabetes, and have experienced almost no hunger suppression and have gained weight. Muscle mass I think as I hit the gym 4 times weekly.
The best powerlifters in the world do bodybuilding exercises and the best bodybuilders in the world do powerlifting exercises. So yes do BOTH
I am confused why Adam,Sal and Justin are taking these GLP-1 medicines?? What's the point?
I'm not sure for the other two but I know Adam is taking it so that he can understand the true effects of the medication on one's appetite and ability to work out, so that he can give better advice to clients ( and us viewers) as these drugs continue to become more commonplace.
42:55 so how will this stuff help, that makes people lose even more muscle?
1:00:13 how do you want to achieve that? Labels off +/- 20%, cuts of meat even more based on fat content, the body changing expenditure even based on temperature of the environment, sleep, hormonal status... how do you want to MEASURE 250-300kcal?
56:46 are you saying that being tall is a reason for lifting substiantially less in lbs (30%) than me at 5'5" age 42... I don't think so...
Nothing to do with the content but….
Over-ear or bud style headphones for gym session?
My ex has been taking my boys to Hooter’s when he has them… They were 8 & 11 when he started. Now they are 12/15. Still takes them pretty much every time he has them. Luckily he only has them every other week for 1.5 days. Spite much 😖🤪
Give me that program!
I agree with the labeling but also it can become insane. California is a good example. Like 8 billion warning labels about carcinogens but it's also on a potato. Like yes, potatoes naturally have a super low amount of lead but now people might not eat potatoes because it's labeled but they STILL don't have the education to understand what that actually means.
42:29 but it DOESN'T. If they come off of it, it's back to square 1. Not to mention that most use it for continuing bad habits and lying to themselves due to reduced detrimental effect while taking it.
Soccer definitely among the first ever sports, caveman surely went around kickin rocks
Caller #3 bears a striking resemblance to Adam. Black Adam?
Totally agree
If food is likened to a drug, then are we trading one addiction for another?
Do you guys think you are abusing the use of the GLP-1? I wouldn't be putting this in your body. Do you really need it? What are you doing?
💪🏿
I get the best results with strength training, it's more mindless and I can daydream at the same time
See ball hit ball
This guys are the best!!!!!!🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡 and I’ll definitely check in with you guys!!!!! And I’m far from perfect I gotta get better. I don’t play any sports, I do sprints twice a week.
Boom
👋🏼
One of you brought up a man who's wife left him so he started throwing again in his 40s and teams were looking at him .
35:08 nonesense. If you had opened the "study" you'd know the the subjects couldn't even maintain 5KG weightloss (not fatloss, mind you) WITH taking the drug. Where 5KG was negligible compared to their bodyweight...
Damn, adam got small
I believe as long as it's hard your muscles don't know the difference.
33:20 I appreciate your general intention with the podcast and that's exactly why I'm calling you out: you MUST do better!
That study is nonsense, and here's why:
1. Funded by N0v0 N0rdisk
2. Week 0-8 put all subjects on 800 kcal/day - states 'cos wanted to study maintaining weightloss...
3. Subjects BMI 32 - 43 no diabetes.... I wonder if that's possible at all, but let's say, maybe
4. Those who have achieved approx. -5KG in weeks 0-8, which is for participants BMI 32-43 meaningless, they were still obese... could continue, we don't know how many, so all groups are most probably underpowered i.e. results meaningless
5. Up from week 7, 2 groups were encouraged, but NOT controlled for 2x week exercise
6. Exercise was circuit training and ("vigorous") indoor cycling NOT controlled... so much about "muscle building"
7. Food intake after week 8 was not controlled, for quality or quantity
8. Weeks 52-104 nothing was controlled, so much about 2 year study
9. "Missing data was implicitly handled by maximum likelihood estimation"
...I could go on. What I'm saying is, this is rubbish, NOT SCIENCE!!!
If you talk about a study, at least open it, even if you trust the one who posted....which, by the way in case of Layne you shouldn't.
Whatever the reason is you continue to push GLP-1, reexamine that, it won't go well in the long run, and it doesn't serve the purpose you say you're after: helping people. Educate yourself instead of trusting whoever you're trusting now, 'cos it's wrong. DO BETTER!
57:55 absolut nonesense. A properly fueled, properly trained body can maintain strength. Wrong message.
First
