      What Harmonix receive and what Ubisoft receive are not the same thing; see Kitsune Zeta’s responses elsewhere in these comments.

    oof, that pitch alteration is brutal

    • @Texy88
      @Texy88 4 роки тому +5

      The original recording only sounds higher because of a sped-up tape. I was lucky enough to see Tears For Fears during their _Rule The World_ tour in February 2019 and the pitch they performed the song equates to that heard here. Even live performances on UA-cam from around the time the song first came out had them playing it at the same pitch as here.
      A lot of _Rocksmith_ players will simply not have much, if anything, to do with songs with a slightly-off tuning (I believe that the recording’s pitch is A454 or thereabouts) because of the faff with having to do that for potentially just one song - maybe two if they are lucky. Because of that, even at the time of this specific DLC coming out Ubisoft would try and “bake in” pitch-shifting permissions for songs that had such pitch-awkwardness in their original studio recordings so that they could make alterations without the need for special permissions that could further have delayed the release (in fact, Dan Amrich once said that if it was just a little off A440, with that then-new approach they often did not even need to get the special permission for such pitch-shifting to be allowed to do it without legal retribution later).

      @@Texy88 there's still several songs they didn't correct their different pitches. Light My Fire, Cemetery Gates, Black Hole Sun, No More Mr Nice Guy, Behind Blue Eyes, Balls to the Wall, for example.

    • @Texy88
      @Texy88 2 роки тому

      @@zgamer1154 They could only pitch-shift whenever they got permission to do that. Either someone they asked didn’t want the pitch altered or Ubisoft were simply left waiting too long for an answer.

      @@Texy88 that's very odd seeing that specifically Cemetery Gates by Pantera was in it's original tuning (Dime tuned A330 something on purpose with everything) but everything else was A440 and then with This Love is completely fucked with. This Love is supposed to be Eb A330 something and they made it E A440.

  • @Lowlander2
    @Lowlander2 7 років тому +2

    Okay, I know there was this weird thing about the keyboard being between tunings in the original recording, but did they really have to pitch shift that much?

    • @Texy88
      @Texy88 7 років тому +3

      The problem that many players (not just _Rocksmith_ players, but guitar- and bass-players in general) have with what the game calls True Tunings is that they tend to be unique to one or two songs. Surveys confirmed that more people would play a song affected by a pitch offset if Ubisoft were successful in being given permission to bring the pitch of the recording back to A440 for the game so that people can concentrate on learning to play their instrument instead of having to spend time detuning, whereas if something has its tuning as, for example, “E Standard: A449” then people do not play it as much. It’s not like Eb Standard or Drop D, where there are lots of songs available for the game that are also in those same tunings, meaning that you can have a session while keeping in one tuning.
      Ubisoft do not always get permission to alter the pitch of the original recording to get around these True Tunings, but whenever they do, they will.

    Am I out of the loop? They did pitch shift this down, right? I'm not crazy, why did they do that?

    • @RiffRepeater
      @RiffRepeater  7 років тому +18

      Because the data shows that a majority of Rocksmith users are too lazy to tune down/up and therefore will not purchase accurately pitched songs a majority of the time. So whenever possible they are going to do this.
      THANKS LAZY TUNERS

      Riff Repeater That's depressing. I agree it may be annoying to tune differently but I'd rather play it true to the song. I guess not everyone agrees with me.

      Eh, I guess the audio would then be off with the true tuning, ironically. I guess just making two separate DLCs based on preference must be undesirable either to list songs twice on all the platforms or for another reason

    • @bedrazor3432
      @bedrazor3432 7 років тому

      They can remove the fade out to allow us to finish the solo until the last note that would be cool, no ?

    • @KitsuneZeta
      @KitsuneZeta 7 років тому +2

      The audio we get is the audio that the artist or record label provides to the Rocksmith team.

    • @bedrazor3432
      @bedrazor3432 7 років тому

      yeah but it's not impossible to do that But the rocksmith team has the possibility to mix the end of the song so that we can listen to the end, even the sound designer of hero guitar do that so we can play the music really whole. Why not put the tablature up in full is a guitar game though.

    • @KitsuneZeta
      @KitsuneZeta 7 років тому +11

      I'm afraid you misunderstand the reason why this happens in the first place.
      Harmonix could get the full ending solo because they were given stems (that is, full unmixed separate tracks per instrument without the typical end-of-song fadeouts applied) and Harmonix makes a point of only dealing with unmixed stems when they exist. That means there's no end-of-song fadeout in the audio tracks provided to Harmonix, which means that in this case the ending solo is entirely present at full volume. Harmonix having the stems also allows for them to make the parts actually played by players more prominent when mastering the tracks for Rock Band.
      Ubisoft's rocksmith division does not get those tracks, they get the already-mastered product instead (which is essentially the same as what's on the album or played on the radio). That fadeout was already in the audio that was provided to Ubisoft by the record label, cutting off the ending solo, and the audio itself actually completely ends before where the end of the solo would be. The means to revert such a destructive edit when you don't have the original material from before said destructive edit quite frankly do not exist. This isn't the first time it's happened (see also: Killswitch Engage's "My Curse") and it will likely not be the last time it happens.
