There's something magical about Ellen. This pretty, petite blonde walks onto the stage, opens her mouth and BOOM - mind is blown by one helluva voice! :)

She teaches somewhere in New York at a rock and roll school that was the inspiration for that Jack Black movie. Although she's 57 years old,she still is beautiful and she still has a great voice.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ellen when she came to Australia on a promotional tour - maybe late 70s. She was modest and sweet. That promo tour didn’t lead to anything. I could never understand why. Her autographed poster is still with me. A great talent ❤️

Splitting from Meatloaf when he was at his peak, to establish an individual recording contract didn't help. However, you are correct in your summary. Again the industry is slightly different in the northern hemisphere. Always held in high esteem down here in Australia 🇦🇺. 😊

One of the most incredible vocalists ever!!! I don’t understand why she didn’t have more of a celebrity status and radio play. Her manager truly mismanaged her career.

Splitting with Meatloaf didn't help. He was big at the time. About 1979-1980s. However, after that he was never as strong. Foley was there consistently for a period of time, and her voice is still strong today. Not down on Meatloaf, but he could have treated some of his band better. Ellen Foley was one of those people. ❤😊

She said at the time she wouldn't tour with him or go on stage because she didn't like the way he groped at her and the way he kisses in Paradise by the dash board light. Instead they got someone in to mime her. Such a brilliant voice.

I would check the source of that. I just watched a video of them singing it on Donny & Marie. It’s performance art…not real. I read she was doing a tv show at the time he toured & that was why Karla DeVito subbed in for her.

I saw her in Night Court and I knew she could sing a little, but how this one escaped me until just a few months ago I'll never understand. I wouldn't compare Ms. Foley's voice to Karen Carpenter because that would be giving them both an injustice. I think this a song could be difficult for a majority couldn't understand the meaning of this song. I believe it was aimed at the new wave crowd of the time. a huge mistake on the part of the PTBs of Columbia Records. Simply put, one of the most romantic songs I have ever heard. I don't believe anyone could possibly perform this as well, including Meat Loaf. I can also feel Jim Steinman's thumbprint all over it.

As a recording engineer and producer that worked at the NYC Record Plant, it is my opinion that Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson the producers of this album for Ellen did not mix the record well nor did they feature her powerful voice prominently enough in the mix. Had they arranged the songs better and mixed the album to feature Ellen's voice more prominently, I believe that this album would have been huge. The production on this record was not up to par with the power of Ellen's voice. I would love to remix it.

Written by Ellen Foley and Fred Goodman. SUPERB! Ellen Foley is the REAL THING! She is performing live again, and I am longing for a new cd. Masterful singer, her voice is like Emmylou Harris, but with the power of Aretha, with ultimate finesse, control and confidence. More than a great ballad singer, a really great musician. So interesting to look at this style of performance captured before these moves had become cliche.
